A war-blighted African state, in thrall to the Chinese…

A rogue British security contractor, captured freelancing for a rebel general, interred in a high security prison…

An MI6 team under suspicion of betrayal, tasked with staging a rescue attempt…

Enter Cal Winter and the press-ganged mercenaries of The Firm, tasked with planning a daring assault on a remote, heavily guarded fortress. But Cal has another off-the-books objective: discover the traitor inside the MI6 team, believed to have been turned by the Chinese Ministry of State Security.

Outnumbered and outgunned, Cal’s team are hunted by an elite team of Chinese commandos in a blood-soaked game of espionage and deception. Hi.

I'm inspired by writers like Jack Higgins and Len Deighton, Mark Timlin and Philip Kerr. The stuff of hard-boiled thrillers and Sunday afternoon war movies, full of action, suspense and dark humour. Later, I decided to write fantasy too. My reading habits had always been an even split between thrillers and speculative fiction, from Michael Moorcock to Robert E. Howard. Then I became a fan of writers like Joe Abercrombie and Mark Lawrence.

My latest book, 'Timberwolf', mashes up my love of thrillers and war movies with fantasy and science-fiction. It even made the semi-finals of a competition (SPFBO)!

Please check out my blog and Instagram for other stuff I'm interested in: I collect watches, I'm intrigued by para-politics, gaming, movies, pop culture and I suffer from an unhealthy obsession with tanks. You can usually find me on Facebook if you like dad jokes and otters.

Just as the Europeans grabbed chunks of Asia and the Middle East two centuries ago, the Chinese dragon is gobbling up vast swathes of resource rich Africa today.

Cal Winter knows Africa. He’s been banged up in prison there and is sprung to lead a bunch of mercenaries to get an MI6 colonel out of a hilltop fortress guarded by elite Chinese commandos. Winter’s team is out-gunned, out-manned and there’s a traitor in their ranks.

The result: a thrill-a page-espionage thriller with more plot twists than a bag of snakes, characters that come alive (albeit blood-soaked) from the page and a race to a breathless ending that may be what you expected but not in the way you expected it. Dominic Adler is a master story teller at the top of his game.

The second thriller featuring Cal Winter an Iraq veteran turned mercenary. Winter leads a team of mercenaries on a mission to rescue a security contractor and MI6 agent being held in the African state of Zambute. The operation does not go according to plan: the prisoner is guarded by Chinese commandos, the team has to fight its way out across the war torn country and there is a traitor in the ranks. A gripping and fast-moving action adventure which is difficult to put down.

This is an action thriller, set in the borderland between Kenya and Somalia that was known as the NFD (Northern Frontier District) in colonial times. It's a fast-paced story of ex-British army mercenaries attempting to rescue a security contractor from the Chinese, while also trying to identify the MI6 traitor in their midst. You'll enjoy it if you like Andy McNab or Lee Child.

A terrific action-packed thriller, in the vein of Lee Child's Reacher novels. Cal Winter is back (his first book was The Ninth Circle, which I also recommend), and this time his nebulous employers The Firm send him to Africa to instigate a coup. A great holiday read.

A tough, no-nonsense espionage/military thriller that sees Cal Winter and his team from The Firm attempt to spring a rogue military contractor from an East-African prison. Lots of fast-paced action, cracking dialogue and a tautly constructed plot makes this a real winner.
