Former Navy SEAL turned stable owner, Dusty carries scars from war, manipulative women, and a hurtful tear in his family bonds. Content to be alone with his animals, he’s happy with life on his own terms.
April needs a special stable to board her adopted horses. With a filly that has been abused and a history of her own suffering at the hands of men, April’s hesitant but willing to give Dusty a try. If only he can work magic with her horses, she’ll be overjoyed.
He’s not thrilled with her but can’t bring himself to send her packing. Not when his body responds so easily and his heart craves the salvation she offers. To make matters worse, a raging wildfire threatens to wipe out everything he owns and separate him from the one woman who makes him believe again.
Will fate tear them apart or can he find a way to step up, like the hero she believes he is, in order to save the day?
This book started out slow, alot of laying the background of the main characters but once you got past this it was a very good book. Dusty a retired Navy Seal and April a Nurse new to the area each coming from different family backgrounds and trying to understand each other. Dusty is a loner and like it that way whereas April enjoys being around people and helping when she can. April adopts a couple of horses so they won't be put down. In her search for a place to house her horses she meets Dusty and even though he has his quirks and does not like to be social this does not stop April from wanting the best for him. This story has many ups and downs but does end with happily every after. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Cheyenne Meadows writings.
Everyone knows I love the damaged heroes and heroines, and Navy SEAL's are a special favorite of mine. Second Chances had it all. Plus, horses and a great war dog! Add to that Dusty's wonderful family and you have a cast that rounds out a wonderful story. While Second Chances deals with some difficult issues, from animal to domestic abuse,PTSD,a raging wildfire, family discord and misplaced pride, there are also many light-hearted and heart-warming moments. Mischief, the white mini-horse is a hoot and adds humor in all the right places. Tess' sassy tongue and Carrie's rule of the Delaney house with a smile, a wooden spoon and a will of iron cracked me up. The characters were well written and emotionally well rounded, very three dimensional. I can't wait for the next book! Get writing Cheyenne!
Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock. Second Chances is the first book by Cheyenne Meadows that I read and I have to say I will be reading more by her in the future. Is hard to write the review without having giving much away but the book is focus around former navy seal turned stable owner Dusty. While fighting his demons left from his time as seal he works on his stable with his MWD by his side. One day April comes by the stable and asks to board a couple of horses she is going to adopt from the humane society. Together they work at the stable April little by little breaking Dustys walls as well as hers and they form an uncanny relationship that turns into more once a fire threatens to take away what they have. Second Chances is a must read. I give this book 5 fangs!!!!!
Ms Meadows is an autobuy for me, regardless of the gender mix, and this book just cemented that for me.
Both April and Dusty have been scarred trying to find love more than once, although Dusty also is affected by what would probably be termed mild ptsd (I think any is too much, personally).
I love April. She is strong, knows what she wants, and doesn't waste time whining when things don't go her way. And her horse, well, I'll let you find out.
Dusty is a wounded warrior, and as the old saw goes, "Once a SEAL, always a SEAL". His love for his dog--who served and came home with him--is very special, and helps you realise from the start that there is more to him than meets the eye.
