Cain Thaler’s lived more than four hundred years fighting rogue immortals, avenging the family he’d lost. It’s all he’s needed, all he’s wanted. That changes the fateful day he lays eyes on his fated mate. Olivia Waden, a werewolf princess, is nothing like him. Unwilling to give her up, he sets a plan into ignoring his need to claim her, he befriends her. Despite Cain's best efforts at friendship, Olivia has fallen hard for him. It is him she dreams of, him she wants as her fated mate. But she is sure he doesn't feel the same way. In way over her head, she has no option but to run away from the only man she's ever loved. Will Cain find Olivia before it's too late or will their differences tear them apart?
J.L. Sheppard is a new to me author - Her book Awaiting Fate sounded fairly good so picked it up. This book seems to be a spin off of her previous series "Elemental Sisters". I didn't feel in anyway I needed to read them before this so that was nice. I really liked her writing style.
Awaiting Fate is about Cain and Oliva. Cain recognized Oliva as his mate 5 months previously but decided to take his time and make her feel comfortable with him, form a friendship, and in the mean time woo her. Oliva has not a clue she is Cains fated mate and falls in love with him despite knowing/thinking she isn't his and he will eventually leave her for that special girl. She decides to take a vacation to clear her head hoping her feeling for Cain subsides. Cain on the other hand goes to visit her and realizes she has up and left without telling anyone where she went. Cain breaks down and decides to find her and finally tell her she is his.
Good concept to the story but one thing about this scenario is it turned out to be a sweet and sappy romance. They were both so insecure about the relationship it started to frustrate the shit out of me. When i thought they had finally got over it and were making progress one of the shits would go back to what if? Does he/she really want to be with me? What if they don't really love me? They don't want me, etc etc. Oliva and her freaking crying all the time.... holy shit this woman had a tear in her eye all the time. Then they both degraded themselves. Cain is just a lowly orphaned demon. Oliva is just so inexperienced. Minus the insecurities, trust issues, and degrading themselves the relationship had some good moments.
I would continue reading this series. Hell I am even thinking about reading the pre spin off series "Elemental Sisters". Hopefully its more of a strong willed story instead of emotional, sappy, cry-fest romance.
What is one pretty consistent thing about fated pairs in paranormal romances? Instant attraction, right? Instant need to be together, no matter what, am I right? Meet Cain, the immortal demon warrior with more self-control and insecurities than any warrior hero I’ve ever met. Cain thinks he has nothing to offer his fated mate, Olivia, a werewolf princess, as she is royalty and he is simply an adopted demon, even though his adopted family is royalty, he is still a man without roots. Feeling unworthy, he tries the next best thing to still be able to watch over this fiery shifter, he becomes her friend without benefits, but how long can he hold back his feelings and resist the need to claim her? If only she would feel the same...
With an overprotective brother, who just happens to be the werewolf king, Olivia is kept under constant guard, even though she is trained as a fierce warrior herself, because of course, her brother thinks he knows best. Olivia longs for Cain, but he has never shown the same level of desire she feels, and why make a fool of herself? And then it happens, that moment when the barrier of restraint falls and the heat index rises, amazing what honesty can do for a couple destined to be together!
Olivia’s brother has other ideas for his sister, she would make a wonderful political match with a newfound pack. Will Cain and Olivia be pulled apart just when they’ve finally admitted their feelings? When the king gets the memo, what will he do? He has the power to ensure they can never be together, but would that be hypocrisy on his part? Doesn’t he understand his sister has a life? Has Fate changed its mind about these two? Will impending battle force them apart or will they take a leap of faith that crosses the boundary of their races?
I’ve said it before; J.L. Shepard knows how to fuel the flames of love and desire with practiced ease. From the first page, there is a touch of humor, endearing moments of humanity and need, high energy tension and romantic drama. Can you imagine the steam when the floodgates of desire and passion are finally released? Holy hotness! I fell in love with her main characters; imagine a huge and ancient warrior brought to his knees by a tiny little princess, of course, that princess holds an impressive bite when she wants, but still... I felt such a connection with this story, I felt like a cheerleader for Team Cain, all the way! J.L. Shepard’s gift for mixing it up with the supernaturals is brilliant story-telling.
I received an ARC edition from J.L. Sheppard in exchange for my honest review.

It's been awhile since I've read a paranormal romance. They tend to be a hit or miss for me so I don't read them often. I really enjoyed Awaiting Fate. Cain was super alpha but sweet. Olivia was an ok heroine. She was really sweet & shy. Although, I don't mind sweet or shy, sometimes it can come across as weak. I like my heroines to be a bit more on the stronger/confident/sassy side. At times, both Cain and Olivia were a bit too insecure for my taste, which drove me a little nuts but overall I really enjoyed this one. And the steamy scenes were hot! It definitely left me wanting to know more about the other characters in the book. I enjoyed the writing as well. I will definitely be reading more from this author. 3-3.5 stars

First off, congrats J.L. Sheppard, on the new series, how exciting it must feel to have it released! Let me start off by saying, fans of the Elemental Series are going to feel right at home reading Awaiting Fate. While reading the novel, it felt like a good kind of romantic soap-opera where the readers knew more than the characters in the story! Which made me feel all giddy inside, what made the experience better were the character’s reactions to situations we were waiting to unfold. I really enjoyed the attention that was put into the environments our favorite couples were in. The imagery was there, and so were the emotions! ;D Watching this romantic feud between Cain and Olivia, was so entreating and page turning, made me want to materialize in the same moments to say hello. Sometimes you forget the characters in this novel aren’t your everyday typical humans, more or less demons with intense and overwhelming transformations that will scare you away, but just may attract potential mates. I've never been taking into consideration how easy it is to be taken into another part of our world, without leaving our doorstep. Authors have a way with words, in such a manner; I was able to experience life in and out of America so quickly and safely! As with all fantasy romance titles, I like how anger is expressed and shown. Cain (sure to be all the gals favorite upon release) is one character I like to see how he reacts to certain situations and other characters. Prepare yourself readers, this is one of those titles that’ll make you feel sympathy for others, all while making you grip your seat with anticipation of what to expect next. Overall, it felt like the appropriate length, the plot kept a consistent pace, a nighttime read that’s for sure! Details, it’s what ties this novel together. The thinking processes, the reactions, I may have over analyzing it all, but it’s so interesting to see how everything while reading falls into place. Will the complex relationship between Cain and Olivia be successful, or is it all just a fairytale dream that never should have been pursued? I don’t know about you, but you just might find the ending to be surprising to everyone! If you’re into romantic novels, with that ecstatic touch of fantasy, pick this book up, you’ll be drawn into its delicate but strong charm. I received an advance review copy from J.L. Sheppard in exchange for my honest review.
I went in open minded as this is my first read of a paranormal book. I loved Cain the and how fiercely he loved Olivia, despite her being a werewolf princess, he still want after her and proved he loved her. Great story!
★★★★★ 4.5 stars! O-M-G Cain!!! I didn't think I could love another after reading Jacob's book, but oh boy was I wrong! Cain was absolutely perfect!
I started Fated Immortals, a spin-off series of the Elemental Sisters, without reading that first but it's not necessary. I felt the need to read this book because I absolutely fell in love with Jacob, that I just had to get my hands on another sexy sweet hot tempered demon. I didn't think I'd love another, but I was so wrong. I freaking loved Cain! He was so sweet and had no problem with waiting for his mate until making everything right. I love my alpha men who just take what they want when they want it, but I also love my sweet men, and Cain was one of the sweetest.
Although Cain is a confident man, he had some insecurities regarding his fated, Olivia. When he first sets eyes on her, he immediately knows she's his fated, but makes the decision on waiting in order to make her fall in love with him first. Isn't that the sweetest? I was swooning so much but also at the same time I wanted to shake him so he can just claim her already. My emotions were conflicted.
Olivia has been sheltered by her brother since she was just a little girl, I believe her brother's protectiveness is what caused Olivia to have a lot of insecurities. Hers along with Cain's insecurities made it a bit difficult for me to love their relationship more. But who doesn't have insecurities?
After Olivia and Cain get past their insecurities something else happens that tries to separate them, but she makes a big decision that shows how much she truly loves Cain and that made me admire her braveness.
The only thing that I felt was missing and was what kept me from giving the book five full stars, is that I wish Cain could have had the opportunity to watch Olivia shift into her werewolf form. Other than that, I loved the book!

After wanting centuries for his mate he finally finds her while watching over the King's wife's sister Jocelyn. Cain, at that moment had the distant instinct to take her and make her his own. He followed her for a little while and found out she was also an immortal but a werewolf. Her brother is also the alpha of the pack.
Olivia doesn't know much about the immortal world because her brother is a little bit overprotective of her. She is also kept on watch and is always left in her home away from everyone. But one day her brother decides to take her to the immortal council and she meets Cain. After a little while Cain befriends Olivia and decides to give her time to adjust some more to the Immortal life and learn more about everything before he decides to tell her that she is his. But is it too late to do so on Cain's part? This is a beautiful love story and I really like the way Cain fought his urges to take her then and there. He wanted to make sure Olivia was ready for everything and I find that sweet. Olivia knows that she can't tell if she is his mate but she really wants to be. She gets away from him because she loves him. She doesn't believe she is is mate and he doesn't show her that she is, he treats her more as a friend. When he finds out she left, he thinks it was because she knew she was his mate or because she was just running away. But he feels like crap afterwards.
But as for everything that is going on Olivia's brother Landon has other ideas for her. So could this mean a huge fight between Cain and Landon? Will Olivia have to chose between her brother who has loved her and tried to protect her all her life or the man she loves who suddenly pops up in her life?
I really feel in love with the characters, Cain is a bundle of hotness and Olivia is outgoing and beautiful. I really enjoyed ever part of this book and can't wait for the second one. Everything about this book blew me away from the characters to the story line. J.L Sheppard did a wonderful job writing this story.
This series is here to stay, thank goodness! I actually read the second book in this series first and I stated in that review one of my favorite things about this series is that there are many different types of paranormal. These books are all about the couple and romance, hot nail-biting romance.
Many times during paranormal romance books, really any romance genre books, I will comment on the action and mystery that the novels have as well. These books so far do not really have those aspects, that being said, it is a refreshing change. Sometimes you might find yourself saying "just get together already or rush to get to the good parts", but this is not a problem with this series. The good parts are all throughout.
The only reason I rated this 4 stars instead of 5, is the desire to hear more about their gifts. Demons, werewolves, witches, etc. Their strengths and weaknesses and just more about their characters.
This series has so much potential, I do not want to miss anything. Ms. Sheppard could take this in many different directions. Take Larissa Ione, her first Demonica book, Pleasure Unbound, received some really bad reviews that made fun of different things, but as you know, it is now one of the most beloved paranormal series. I will not be making this mistake with Ms. Sheppard and can not wait for more in this series, especially when it comes to one hunky Lycan alpha. So don't waste any more time; start this series and read AWAITING FATE.

I loved this so much. I read this one not realizing it was a spin off from another series, but it wasn't necessary to read the other series first even though I do have a feeling I would understand some of the characters more if I had. However, it is NOT needed at all. Cain is so hott. He is a demon, he is sexy, and when he turns demon so much yummy. He has insecurities and jealousy. He loves his mate so much but is worried she won't want or need him so he takes his time. Olivia is amazing. She is so strong but thinks she isn't. She was sheltered because of her fear and needing her brother so much. She falls for Cain who is a demon and she is a werewolf so she isn't supposed to love a demon. They both have to work through so much just to be together including his issues and her brother. This is an amazing start to this series and thanks to reading this one I now need to read the other series before this one. I highly recommend this book if you love paranormal romance.
Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance & Anthors That Rock. Cain Thales has been fighting rogue immortals for over 400 years. He is revenging his family he lost to them. He though that was all he needed until he met Olivia Waden. Olivia is a werewolf princess, and the exact opposite of Cain. They become friends and Cain fights his need to claim Olivia. Olivia has fallen really hard for Cain but doesn't know he feels the same way so she runs away. Is their love enough to overcome their differences? Can Cain find her and prove his love to her before it's to late? This is a fast paced romance that is very well written. The characters really come to life and I love Olivia, she isn't one of your typical whiney, oh save me types. Cain is a sexy bad ass who know what he wants and he wants Olivia. Bravo Ms. Sheppard can't wait for more.
After centuries of waiting Cain has finally found his fated mate but to protect her, he befriends her to give her time only he may have waited too long and their differences may tear them apart in this heartfelt paranormal romance. I was completely enthralled with Cain and Olivia’s story and of course I can’t wait to read the next one and hopefully hear more about the newest characters introduced to all the familiar characters that I already love.
Although this is a new series for this author, it feels like a old favorite because you are still in that same world of the Elemental's. Cain and Olivia's story is every bit as good as previous stories and I look forward to reading future books in this series. From the beginning Cain has been a favorite of mine so it was great to see him get his fated mate and find his happiness. If you liked previous works by this author than you will absolutely love this one too.
Cain and Olivia. Cain is a Demon warrior, Olivia is a werewolf princess, they are both immortal, they are both fated mates Cain knows it the moment he feels Olivia's presence nearby, Olivia is utterly clueless waiting for her mate to find her. I love a good supernatural romance with loads of drama, action and adventure, awaiting fate has it all, stubborn sexy alpha men and their even more stubborn female mates, it's a combination sure to keep you entertained.
This is the first book that I have read of Ms. Sheppard's While I was told that this was derived from a previous series, from what I can tell, I didn't feel that I was lost in any way by not having any history of any of the characters. This book holds such a sweet, beautiful love story. It proves that no matter the species, love wins, when you believe in it! I recommend this to anyone who loves an endearing romance, that is also paranormal. Onward to Fate Forgotten (Fated Immortals #2)
