Untamed Hunger: A Russian Mafia Romance

Rate this book
I crashed a wedding.
Got caught by the best man.
Ended up handcuffed to his bed.

Sneaking into a Bratva wedding was the stupidest mistake of my life.
But I couldn’t let my best friend marry a monster.

I’m almost at the ceremony when a hand snaps out and closes around my arm.
Attached to the hand is the epitome of the male species.
Tall. Dark. Built like a wall. Eyes like a stormy sea.

I gulp.
The best man.
Also... the most feared pakhan in the city.

I fight. I wiggle. Throw everything I have at him to get out of his grasp.
All it does is rip my dress and reveal my …khm... private areas.
His eyes darken.
"Interesting strategy," is all he says.

So, I keep fighting, but he’s not letting me go.
Instead, he flings me over his shoulder, carries me to his bedroom, and handcuffs me to his bed.

"Christ. You keep handcuffs in your nightstand?" I ask.
"I have much worse," is his answer. "Do you think you can handle it?"
I swallow hard. Tremble.
And he pockets the key.

Welcome to Rogov Bratva!
Untamed Hunger is a Russian dark mafia romance, and it is the first book in the Rogov Bratva duo.

Rating: 2/5 🌟🌟

The only thing this book successfully managed to do was convince me to pick up the sequel.

And honestly? I am still slightly annoyed that it worked.

---

Initial Thoughts

This had every ingredient of a fun Bratva romance—danger, forced proximity, suspense, morally grey men, high stakes—and somehow still ended up feeling like a glorified Wattpad draft.

I kept waiting for the story to become smarter, the characters to become more convincing, or the emotional depth to finally kick in.

It never really happened.

The book moved at lightning speed, which made it easy to finish, but fast pacing alone cannot replace proper character development or believable emotional progression. By the end, I wasn't emotionally invested—I was simply turning pages to see where the chaos would land.

Ironically, the ending was probably the strongest part of the entire book.

---

Plot Summary (No Spoilers)

Lauren crashes her best friend's wedding to a feared Bratva leader, determined to stop the marriage before it's too late. Instead, she ends up face-to-face with Nikolai Rogov—the groom's equally dangerous best man—and accidentally throws herself into the middle of the Russian mafia world.

What begins as one reckless decision quickly spirals into kidnappings, secrets, betrayals, dangerous alliances, and an attraction neither of them seems capable of resisting. The deeper Lauren gets involved with the Bratva, the more complicated everything becomes, forcing both her and Nikolai into situations neither of them ever expected.

---

Atmosphere, Tone & Setting

The Bratva atmosphere was... there.

Not exceptional. Not immersive. Just there.

It had all the familiar ingredients of a Russian mafia romance—violence, danger, powerful men, family politics—but none of it ever felt particularly memorable. Instead of building genuine tension, the book leaned heavily into clichés that I've honestly seen executed much better elsewhere.

The pacing kept things moving, which prevented the story from becoming boring, but it also meant very little had time to breathe before the next dramatic event arrived.

---

Character Analysis

Lauren:

Lauren frustrated me more often than not.

Her decisions constantly felt irrational, and instead of making her emotionally complicated, they mostly made me question why she kept creating problems that didn't need to exist. I wanted to root for her, but she made that surprisingly difficult.

Nikolai:

Nikolai, on the other hand, was easily the saving grace of this book.

He wasn't revolutionary by any means, but he was charismatic enough, protective without becoming completely unbearable, and honestly carried most of my enjoyment. If I gave this book two stars instead of one, a huge portion of that credit belongs to him.

---

Critical Analysis

My biggest issue wasn't that the book was cliché.

I read mafia romance. I like clichés when they're done well.

My problem was that everything felt underdeveloped. The emotional beats arrived before they were earned, the romance happened faster than I could emotionally invest in it, and several plot developments relied more on convenience than believable progression.

At the same time, I can't deny that the book was ridiculously easy to binge. The pacing never slowed down, and despite rolling my eyes more times than I can count, I still wanted to know how everything would end.

Which brings me to my biggest complaint. I absolutely hate that the ending was good enough to make me immediately want the sequel.

That feels like emotional manipulation. And unfortunately...

It worked.

---

Final Verdict

This wasn't the dark mafia romance I was hoping for.

It felt overly cliché, underdeveloped, and far too dependent on familiar tropes without adding enough substance of its own. Outside of Nikolai and a surprisingly effective ending, very little truly stood out.

Was it terrible?

No.

Was it memorable?

Also no.

But apparently it was just manipulative enough to leave me opening book two anyway.

I hate that for me.

Untamed Hunger is book 1 in the Rogov series. It delivered crazy drama, a
decent amount of suspense, steamy all in romance and funny as h$77 one liners sprinkled in. Lauren and Nickolai are fated. Side character dev was pretty weak. But the story moves fast with mobster ridiculousness so who cares 💀😅🔪🔪

"I feel the magic...I've got hungry eyes.."
*

Nikolai (MMC),  Lauren (MFC) meet at a wedding of her bff .

Typical bratva plot as far as they go- she has info, quite by accident that she ends up withholding it because she's apparantly not as bright as her job title suggests. Pregnancy, also not so bright with BC options available. To avoid much in the way of spoilers, this is about as much as I can say!

There are a few errors that interrupted my flow, but more aggravating was one of my personal pet peeves. The use, or in this case overuse, of the word "human". We. Are. People. For centuries we have been referred to as people. Initially I also thought the writing was too basic, with too much repetitive inner dialogue. With the number of published books she has, she's doing something right!

But I digress! A satisfactory plot, I read it through and will read the sequel to finish it out.

This book was so bad I had to put it down multiple times. Spoilers
The book had potential but it was so underdeveloped the characters were all over the place. The friendship between Lauren and Sophie made no sense feel like I am missing a book. First chapter Lauren said something along those line “ I was born to reproduce of course I notice how attractive he is” cringe. So many inconsistencies in this book, Lauren is like 2 weeks pregnant and they can tell the sex of the baby already via ultrasound? False. The pakhan act like his enforcer has more authority than him. The head of the bratva let the woman pregnant with his baby leave his place with no protection when someone tried to kill her a couple of days before? Yeah no. Also what did Timur get out of marrying Sophia? She is nutritionist ok, he can hire one didn’t need to marry her. So many questions, where is Nicolai’s army, why was he following Lauren and not people working for him, the missing money, where is the chemistry between them, that secretary, why Timur is always home as an enforcer, the list goes on and on. All and all a terrible book.

"Untamed Hunger" delivers exactly what fans of dark mafia romance look for: intensity, danger, and a high-voltage connection between two strong-willed characters.

The premise kicks off with immediate tension—a wedding crash gone wrong—and quickly escalates into a story filled with power struggles, sharp dialogue, and undeniable chemistry.
Nikolai fits the classic “dangerous but magnetic” archetype, while the Lauren brings enough defiance and boldness to keep the dynamic engaging rather than one-sided. Their interactions lean heavily into the push-and-pull trope, which keeps the pacing brisk and emotionally charged.

While the setup is dramatic and at times over-the-top, that’s part of the appeal. Readers who enjoy possessive antiheroes and a darker romantic tone will likely find this an addictive start to the Rogov Bratva series. It’s not subtle—but it is entertaining, fast-paced, and unapologetically intense.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

how do you forget this sauce?!

⭐️⭐️½ (spoilers)
i honestly don’t even know how to rate this one. i landed on 2½ stars, but if goodreads allowed letter grades, this probably would’ve been somewhere around a c.
overall, i enjoyed the story. i love a possessive bratva man, and nikolai was exactly the kind of red flag i love reading about. the chemistry, the danger, and the mafia drama kept me invested.
but then… that ending.
i was bawling my eyes out. i don’t think i’ve ever read a bratva book where the pakhan actually dies, and i was not prepared for it. then the epilogue throws in this weird little cliffhanger four years later with the black suv while they’re out getting spaghetti sauce, hinting that maybe he’s still alive? i honestly don’t know what to make of it.
it felt like emotional whiplash. maybe book two will make it all make sense, but as a first book, this ending just didn’t work for me.

An awesome start to a great series. Lauren tries to stop her BFF from marrying Timur Gusev of the Roguv Bratva and crashes her wedding. That's when she meets Nikolai Rogov and they have instant chemistry, but he throws her out only to have her sneak back in. But after he finds out who she is he locks her up in his bedroom until after the wedding is complete he lets her see Sophia. Now he needs to know what she knows about her father and his business. So he takes it upon himself to follow her. She was told by her father that Timur or the Bratva killed her mother. And after she sees him at the wedding she has to find out the truth. So she starts digging. But Nikolai wants her to stop because she doesn't know what the consequences of her actions will be if she doesn't. And they give into temptation which leads to her getting pregnant. But she won't stop and starts copying files from her fathers computer onto a USB drive and he finds out. Then she gets kidnapped. Oh boy! Nikolai is not pleased. You just have to read this book. It's the beginning of a wild and crazy love story which keeps you engaged from the first page. Awesome job Lisa. Five HUGE stars!

This book was given to me as an ARC and I am leaving my voluntary review.

This book…wow! Check on your friends. I am not ok after reading book 1. I’m seriously hoping there will be a haha just kidding moment in book 2.

I love these two main characters so much. Lauren is such a strong person. To strong for her own good sometimes. Niko…well what’s there to say about that tall, tattooed, beautiful mob boss? Lauren and Niko are absolutely perfect for eachother. Lauren is loyal to those she loves and cares for. She does what she needs to do to make things right. She does not bow down or listen to what others tell her. She does her own thing. She’s on a mission and is so close. What happens when she finds out the truth ?
Such a great read! Cannot wait to read Untamed Thirst

This is book 1 of the Rogov Bratva Duet This story is absolutely amazing. I couldn't put it down i devoured it in one sitting. I adore Lauren and niko so much. Lauren is very fiesty and she wants to know who was responsible for the death of her mother. Niko is a bratva leader who meets Lauren for the first time when she tries to stop his best friend from getting married and he is smitten with her straight away. Niko tells Lauren to stop searching because it will lead to trouble but Lauren doesn't listen. The chemistry between these two characters is off the charts hot. I was sobbing near the end of this story and I hope that certain character gets his comeuppance. I can't wait to start book 2

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I absolutely loved reading this book. Nikolai Rogov the Bratva Pakhan. He is hosting a wedding for his enforcer. Lauren is an annoying nosey person, she has a bee in her bonnet, her best friend is getting married. Lauren bumped into Nikolai. Nikolai Rogov is a Pakhan he's finding Lauren in his house uninvited so he handcuffs her, he has never felt this way when he is around her and Lauren felt the same way. Enemy-to-lover, action-packed, suspense, danger, twist and turns, betrayal, lies, secrets, pregnancy, depression, and so much more when she had to watch her lover being asked to make a choice who to save between Lauren or himself and his empire.

What a read, this one grabbed me from the first page and I struggled to put it down. This is the first in the Rogov Bratva series and I can't wait to read the second book. We meet Lauren as she tries to stop her friend's arranged marriage to the man she thinks murdered her mother, Timur, and finds herself handcuffed to a bed by Nikolai Rogov, the Pakhan of the Bratva. What follows is full of drama and suspense as Lauren fights the feelings she has for Nikolai while searching deeper for the truth. What she discovers is shattering and the consequences devastating. Highly recommended, this is a page turner of a story and if you like dark, spicy, mafia stories with lots of twists and turns and full of suspense, then you will love this one.

I got this book as an ARC read.
this book was amazing well written. The electrical pull between the two main characters was amazing.
Even if the she hates the world he lives in. And He vowed that he would never let anyone in to become a weakness. But after he stops her from saving her bestie from marrying into the Bratva, she gets under his skin and she is there to stay.
From the first meeting at then were pull together by fate and the need to have someone that will died for you before they let anything happen to the other.
She fine out that her world is a bunch of mirrors and she is just another way for for father to get a head in the world.

Love the way that Lauren and Nikolai met and how they each had an agenda. Niko had the muscle and Lauren had the motivation and the brains but they each had their mission and were not going to give up until it was complete. They obviously were very hot together and were happy to each move in their own circles until his enemies took a longer look at her to get to him and that's where it turns very, very ugly and the misery and heartbreak occur.
Cliffhanger is a good one and its great we don't have to wait for the second book

Lauren, being the loyal and great friend that she is, crashes her friend's wedding with the intent to save her from marrying into the Bratva life. What she didn't take into consideration is that the groom, Nikolai, is the Bratva Pakhan. He pushes her away, but being the strong-willed person that she is, she doesn't take no for an answer. Will they be able to work through their differences, overcome the obstacles thrown at them to get their HEA?!?

I need to read Untamed Thirst to get my answer.

About 2.5 to 3 stars

The book started off pretty good. I liked the storyline and the FMC was very independent and smart. I liked the MMC too but towards the end of the book they both changed. I got so annoyed about 70% in when the FMC had a TSTL moment and just didn't make sense why she left somewhere safe. For someone being so smart you would think she wouldn't do something dumb. And then the MMC turned out not that tough. It kinda lost me after that and I skimmed to the end. I won't be reading the next one.

Awesome book and the first in the duet. Lauren and Nikolai were so great together.

Gatecrashing her best friend's wedding to try and stop it, Lauren gets caught by Pakhan Nikolai.

Nikolai is soft on Lauren from the start. Not the usual brutal Bratva leader, very protective. Lauren is smart and business accustomed working in her father's company. But they instantly meld together.

Very well done. A great dynamic and characters that all the story. Looking forward to the ending!

This book drew me in from the first page and I just loved Lauren. she is a woman that is funny follows through on whatever she is going after and as a result places not only herself but everyone that has come into contact with her in danger. She gives Nikolai a run for his money and doesn't back down when it comes to danger when she really should. The ending has me wanting to find out what happens next!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.

eh (spoilers)

Definitely had the potential to have a good story but it lacked depth. I kinda like that it wasn’t a “happy ending” but also with the last glimpse of the book, the MMC may not have died. There wasn’t much information on why the FMC just 180 and became obsessed with the MMC and same for the MMC. And her
father was just not fully thought out as a character. I also didn’t understand how/why he didn’t like Nico and the stolen money.

Well, this is a first for me. The writing is so juvenile that I couldn't get out of the first chapter before hitting DNF. Turns out she is TSTL and proved it with almost every sentence in Chapter 1.

I also found so many silly statements to highlight that it was ridiculous. Here is just one (see Notes).

"I also didn’t realize Bratva leaders could be so handsome, considering the high amounts of stress that they are put under."

This is absolutely me nitpicking…I’m such a stickler for timelines being accurate. I can get over if it’s give or take a day off. But when it goes from her being 3 weeks pregnant to 12 weeks pregnant over night, I just can’t.

There was also a statement made that I know a lot of people have a hard limit and will immediately DNF, that was along the lines of “he was hitting my womb, almost touching our baby” 🤢

This was so good, Lauren and Nikolai with great chemistry right from the start and a gripping storyline I could not put this down.

Full of suspense and twists along the way too, this was an excellent read - and that ending! Wow book 2 was opened and read just as quick.

If you love a Bratva read with great characters, spice and lots of Bratva violence and drama this is a must read.

Confused

I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a quick read. I actually found his humorous, the stereotypes, the lack of communication. I liked the main characters but I tend to ignore the mafia stuff. Thought the ending a bit abrupt. 3 stars. I do want to read book 2. Sort of a cliff hanger.

Hope I am not disappointed at the end of this book, if he is still alive I am gutted he has lost 4 years of Lauren’s & Hannah’s lives

Good Mafia story

I enjoyed the FMC (strong) and MMC in this book. It has a very funny beginning, I had to giggle. Their stories are painful and well there is spice, joy, love, betrayal by loved ones and heartache and I don't want to say anymore. I am just keen to read the next one.

I have to say, *Untamed Hunger* was a very pleasant surprise.

A good plot, likable characters, mobsters just as they should be, witty dialogue, and just the right pace.

What was that ending?! Achjo. Well, I’ll just have to wait for the next installment.
