Living in the Colorado Territory during the Civil War.

When Mersey Lockwood joins her father, a commander of a small fort, in the Colorado Territory, she wasn't looking for a husband or to involved in the Civil War. Mersey falls in love with some of the students, especially two Indian children whose mother becomes her close friend.
