Chloe hoped that going home would keep her enemies away from her. She thought she could trust her parents to protect her, no matter how much they feared mermaids and the ocean.
It nearly cost her life to find out she was wrong.
Surviving a mad scientist and Noah’s bloodthirsty relatives was only the beginning, however. An ancient creature is after her, one that’s risen from its sleep to hunt her, and one that almost destroyed the world last time it awoke. To save herself and everyone she loves, Chloe’s only chance lies in travelling to meet Ellie’s mysterious teacher, Olivia, one of the elusive landwalker elders.
But Chloe has trusted people before. She’s tried to escape the madness that’s chasing her before. And nearly everybody who’s learned her secret has ended up wanting to use her or kill her.
Skye Malone writes action-packed fantasy and paranormal romance. A fan of magical books since childhood, they adore stories that pit ordinary characters against extraordinary odds and reveal the strength within. Abandoned buildings are their passion, along with old castles and deep, dark parts of the forest where anything is possible. I started the series on Thursday night. I blew through the first 3 books by Saturday afternoon, then bought the the next 2, and now I'm on the last one. I don't have a problem with changing points of view because they add to the overall narrative, filling in differing points of view to the situation. The author has created a world and mythology that is interesting, complex, and one that you will want to see to fruition. (At least, I do!)
So much turmoil, while dealing with who to trust and who not to. Everyone who Chloe, Noah, Baylie, Zeke, and Ellie came in contact with seemed to have their own agenda in how to deal with the landwalker/deahian girl. Who do you trust? Who holds the key to Chloe's fate?
Book 4 of the Awakened Fate by Skye Malone is full of action! So good I didn’t want to quit reading. Had to see what comes next! I’m looking forward to Book 5 to learn more of Chloe, Noah, Baylie, Ellie, and Zeke!
The saga of Chloe continues with another suspense filled paranormal story. It adds the voice of another character, one we've only read about, Walt. Malone is good at keeping the voices separate, giving us a complete sense of the plot. Good story.
The twist and turns that continue in this book makes you wanna stop them and at the same time you just wanna keep on reading until it finished but then the story will be over. What is the next turn? Will it stop and how. Thankfully there is more to read 🌺
This was fast paced adventure throughout the entire book. I was buying these books one at a time but now I'm just going to buy the rest of the series all at once.
Read all 9 books in the series. It's really good. Mermaids, wizards, and other newly created supernatural figures. This was a unique story and a real page-turner. I highly recommend.
I received a copy of Arise in exchange for an honest review.
After escaping the torture they experienced at the hands of Dr. Brooks, Chloe and Zeke find themselves on the road to Colorado with Ellie, Baylie, and Noah. Unbeknownst to them, Noah's cousins are chasing after them - and they have Chloe's parents as hostages. Also on their tail are the psychotic Dr. Brooks, Chief Reynolds, and Aaron Reynolds.
When they arrive in Colorado they seek the help of Ellie's mentor, Olivia. Olivia agrees to help Chloe and Zeke by calling a meeting with the Landwalker Elders she trusts. When the meeting goes awry Chloe and her friends must wonder: Can they trust Olivia and the Landwalker Elders? Or are they really working for Dr. Brooks?
When Noah's cousin Wyatt finally gets Chloe on the phone and tells her to show up at their house on the Washington coastline or he'll kill her parents they end up on a crazy mission to get Chloe's parents back before it's too late.
At the same time, the beast is growing stronger and a storm is brewing. Everything is about to come to a catastrophic climax and not everyone will survive the storm...
After dealing with people that claim to want to help Chloe only for them to betray her with their own agendas or homicidal wishes, is there anyone Chloe can trust? At the end of everything will she choose to split herself and become a landwalker or a dehaian?
Wow - this book was intense. As a reader you're constantly worried about what's waiting around the bend for Chloe and her friends and whether the next person will be a friend or foe. The addition of Wyatt's perspective is like looking into the mind of a chilling psychopath. Out of all the books in the series so far I think this one holds the most action and violence, but it's very well written.
I could have done without Chloe freezing out both Zeke and Noah and focusing so much time trying to figure out who she wants, mostly because I see her working out with Zeke better. Noah's nice and all but I see him and Chloe being just better off as friends. The character I feel most sorry for is Baylie, she never asked for any of this and now she's caught up in all the danger.
Overall I think this book amped up the storyline from the previous books, making it even more complicated and involved so the reader can be swept right into Become. I'm eager to see how this series wraps up in book five, I've just really loved reading not just Arise, but all of The Awakened Fate Series and being caught up in this magical world filled with dehaians, landwalkers, greliaran, and wizards. If you're not reading this series you should be in my opinion!
These novels are way past the point of being confusing. This does tend to happen when an author switches viewpoints every single chapter. However, Skye Malone doesn't just do that, she also keeps adding more viewpoints to every freaking novel. Which is really starting to give me a freaking headache. All these viewpoints are way too much and I'm sure any reader who looks at this novel will take my side on the matter. Just scrape this novel and start all over already.
In this novel Chloe and Zeke have just about had enough. It's bad enough that everyone wants to either kill or study Chloe, but now her parents are in the mix as well. They wanted Chloe to be a Landwalker and even agreed to hand her over to one a crazy scientist. Which about damn near killed her, and Zeke as well. Because while the treatment was bad on Chloe, Zeke had actually gotten it worse. The scientist had wanted to study Zeke, and had even gone as far as to torture him to get what he wanted. The only reason that they both escaped was because of the girl, Ellie. She didn't like what her grandfather was doing and wanted to stop all of it. Which is exactly what she did with the help of Noah and Baylie. They all got out safe, but Zeke did something that he had to do. He shot and killed Noah's cousin Brock in self-defense. Brock tried to kill Zeke while he was strapped down, and in desperation Zeke grabbed the first thing that could be found. Unfortunately, it also was extremely dangerous. Now Chloe and Zeke have Noah's cousins gunning for them harder than ever. They're pissed and want revenge on Zeke, but it's really Chloe that they want. She's the prize that keeps eluding them and they aren't taking it too kindly.
This novel is a lot like the others in this series. It's a young adult urban fantasy novel, with a bit of action and adventure in it. The action is all over the place in this novel. It pops up from page to page, spicing up the novel when it needs it the most. Which is quite frequently, because this novel is surely lacking in its plot. The plot of this novel is really on the downhill. Most likely due to the fact that there's too many viewpoints bouncing around. This isn't okay, in any novel and especially in this one. This is because all the viewpoints start to run together at certain times. So my recommendation for this novel is that you shouldn't read it. This series has been a boring one this entire time and I don't believe that it's getting any better anytime soon.
I was really excited at the way all the characters had ended up in the previous book, both in terms of plot and emotionally. In addition, Chloe’s new mission seems so interesting.
Mistreated and persecuted, the poor girl also has to deal with a heart torn between two heroic boys who sacrifice all for her.
This new mission throws her again in the path of countless confrontations in a race that proves to be more and more difficult to survive. It’s pure adrenaline and thrill.
In this fourth installment of the series, a legend from the past that we had a peek of before gets more developed, along with more details about Chloe’s powers in relation to what she is and to dehaians and landwalkers. I liked everything a lot.
It feels really amazing that each novel doubles in intensity with every surprise, turn and twist shaking everyone’s life up like an earthquake. Enemies abound as they chase Chloe from land to ocean and back while all of them criss-cross in a frenzy of killing. I loved the addition of characters that brought new information, always in a manner that injects electrifying action and impossible decisions to stay alive. As impossible as the choice that Chloe faces at the ending of Arise, which looks pretty much as choosing between burning fire and drowning freezing water.
I truly enjoy each and all novels in this series, and I believe there are two more ahead of me. I do want/need to read them!
(I'm happy to share my honest opinion of this book I reviewed on my blog Torre de Babel)
Like all the others this one was brilliant! Constantly on the edge of my seat never wanting the series to end. When reading the first book, it was like thinking to myself, "it's okay, I still have a whole other five books to go", but when I started getting to the later books and finally got to this one, I was actually worried about the book series ending because I loved it so much. This book was as I said absolutely brilliant and I can't stress enough how much I loved it, and anyone into this series will love it too. Not to mention the romance, which I adore! Although it doesn't seem as strong as in 'Return' (which I will tell you now has the most between Zeke and Chloe) it is still such a draw in and another reason I love this book series. With the amount of books I've read, anyone would believe I would get bored with the same thing over and over again: girl living fantasy life I only wish I had, girl has powers - or abilities -, girl meets amazing guy(s), girl chooses one and falls in love, girl and guy fight for their love and eventually figure it out and they all live happily ever after - not so happy about the latter part by the way, I like twists in an ending but I'm not a goth or emo or anything, but I do still like when the main character's life works out in the end. And I'm telling you now, I never get bored of it! I had absolutely loved every single book I have ever read. I loved this book and I think you will too.
"And sure, the fish girl was hot; her kind were that way on purpose. But how anyone could let themselves actually fall for a creature like that was beyond me."
Arise is book four in The Awakened Series by Skye Malone. This book is told by four different points of view, which I love! No one is who they seem to be anymore. The characters are all full of surprises and you don't know who to trust. You can't trust your friends, the cops, or your family.
Chloe is on the run, because more and more people are beginning to learn what she is, half landwalker and half dehaian. She isn't safe on land or in the water. This book follows Chloe and her friends as they travel inland to save Chloe. In the meantime, Chloe spends a little more time with her first crush, Noah, and is not a bit confused about things with her and Zeke. This drives me insane because I love Zeke! Both guys would do absolutely anything for her.
The group, along with the elders, have a plan to save Chloe. But will it work? Is it safe? They need to hurry because the Beast is awake, stronger, and coming.
Once again, Skye Malone has an amazing mind! I also love how she supplied the little pronunciation page in the beginning of the book. It has every creature and every name listed. Definitely worth checking out! You've probably been reading all the words wrong the whole time! You might be surprised.
Jeez, at this point I would be highly paranoid. Everyone they've encountered from that point seems to have an agenda concerning Chloe. I don't really know how she keeps everything together like this. I feel conflicted because damn I love the world Skye Malone has created. Although I would argue that the dehaian world seems to be working way, way differently than the world as we know it and I feel like we don't really get a chance to see more of it. The novella with Ina gave us a little more info but really, from what we see until that point, they just look like crazy stubborn people living happyily in a monarchy and completely at ease with being fake and not take things seriously. Personnaly, it doesn't make me want to live there.
Anyway, as always, the world and the story is interesting, but I'm going a little bit crazy with the love triangle. Sometimes, figuring shit out like that is not that time. And, being chased by EVERYONE is the definition of it not being the time. I wonder how that will end because clearly, she can't make up her mind and seems to love them both the same.
So good! So good! So good! The twists and turns and twists and turns that this book/series takes is insane!!! This series is definitely in my top three favorite book series so far. I love the description that Malone puts into the story, it really allows you to fully visualize everything in your head.
With every character she introduces more of the secrets and legends are being told, each character having a slightly different spin on them letting the reader piece together the story along with the main characters. Every single book so far has been a page turner and this one was no different. Malone has a great way of leaving you wanting more.
Second time reading this, and I still enjoyed it. However, it did feel like Chloe couldn’t catch a break. Ever other chapter , someone was coming after her. I wasn’t crazy about reading Wyatt’s chapters (I didn’t the first time either), although it does give you some perspective on what was happening. I don’t think they were necessary though.
