A sanctuary owner running on stubbornness and cold tea. A grumpy veterinarian who talks to dragons but not to people. And an injured rescue that will only heal when they work together.
Lindie Keene has held Ember & Ash Dragon Sanctuary together for twelve years through budget crises, mountain winters, and the kind of grief that reshapes a life—no days off, meals skipped that no one notices, no help wanted or needed. When search and rescue calls in a critically injured dragon, she calls in the one vet she trusts. Dr. Callum Voss, the volunteer who's spent two years showing up, doing his job, and never once staying past his shift, moves into the bunkhouse and doesn't leave.
Now they're sharing midnight checks and quarantine shifts—monitoring vitals, arguing about feeding schedules, not talking about the way the room changes when they're both in it. Lindie has survived by being the one who carries everything. Callum doesn't push, doesn't fix, doesn't make promises. He just leaves a sandwich where she'll find it. And she's terrified of what happens when she lets someone stay.
✓ Injured animal brings them together ✓ Grumpy / sunshine ✓ Forced proximity (snowed-in!) ✓ Slow burn, sweet romance ✓ Found family (with dragons) ✓ He fell first (he fell HARD) ✓ Strong female lead
Heat Slow Burn / Closed Door Cozy, tender, yearning Mountain dragon sanctuary HEA Ember & Ash Book 1 — standalones with recurring world
Lindie runs the Ember and Ash tea shop and dragon sanctuary. Callum is the mysterious volunteer vet who visits twice a week but never makes any effort to build up a friendship outside of his professional role. What will happen when they are snowed in together at the sanctuary with a sick dragon?
This was so cute and cosy, I loved it!!! I would love to volunteer at Ember and Ash, it sounds absolutely amazing. It almost made me believe dragons were real. The world building was really well done and I loved every dragon, especially Bramble and Marshmallow.
Lindie and Callum have a great slow burn relationship and I loved watching the sparks start to fly as they are snowed in and under pressure to save Sable. Lindie is a sweetheart and has poured everything into Ember and Ash but neglects herself. Callum is guarded and is scared to let anyone in. They need each other but can they leave their pasts behind?
This was a short novella that I devoured in 90 minutes. It sucked me right in and I hope there will be more books based in Ember and Ash! Definitely 5 stars and I highly recommend if you’re looking for a cute cosy romantasy.
A beautiful cosy read that I didnt want to put down. Dragons, Dragons tea, a sanctuary built for them, and their caretaker Lindi. Lindi is a strong willed character who has walls higher than the Great Wall of China, she does on her Dragons and making the best out of her tea shop. Callum is the volunteer vet, who helps her when needed. Their dynamic is beautiful and both are as stubborn as each other. As the story progresses, so do they, and it is written so well. The rescue of a dragon shifts tides within them and it leads to a tender love story. This is book 1 of a series, which I will happily read. Hugh praise to Maisie on this book!
This was such a warm and cozy story. I fell in love with Lindie and Callum. The two of them were so cute when they got snowed in together with the dragon. I loved their moments. Callum always being mindful of making sure Lindie ate and was getting what she needed. Just an absolutely adorable story.
