She lost her sight to smallpox... but God was never blind to her future.
Smallpox stole both her sight and the confidence she had worn as easily as her well-fitted dresses and neatly kept hair. Now blind and scarred inside and out, Serafina moves carefully through life, choosing composure over complaint and refinement over pity, determined to meet her altered world with quiet dignity.
When a sudden storm on the 1878 Missouri frontier leaves her stranded far from home, help arrives in the form of Connor Finnegan, a steady horseman from the neighboring Manning farm whose calm presence and unexpected humor unsettle her carefully ordered heart.
Connor has weathered enough loss to recognize it in others. Shaped by hardship, faith, and responsibility beyond his years, he offers Serafina no rescue or false assurances, only patience, kindness, and a way of seeing that reaches deeper than sight. What he does not expect is how easily her strength draws him in — or how God uses their unlikely companionship, despite the years between them, to awaken hopes he believed long buried.
As fear, pride, and faith press in from all sides, both must confront a truth neither expected. The future God offers may look nothing like the one they imagined, but it may be richer — and sweeter — than either dared to hope.

As someone who is loosing their sight, this was a story that makes you think about what will happen. Sera and Colin have different views on faith and dealing with the issues in their lives. They work through them and with all of the issues that crop up along the way. I could not put the book down.
I received an ARC from the author Heidi Gray McGill and leaving a review by my own accord.
As with all the books in this series it challenges our walk with the Lord. Serafina has to overcome living with blindness. Her faith shines through, she could have become bitter but she chooses not to, she has to deal with family members who tiptoe around her whereas she just wants to be accepted and seen for herself without drawing attention to her disability. Connor and Aileen have learnt to do this. She is challenged by the story of Ruth choosing to take the path she’s not obliged to but wants to anyway, just like Ruth. iI’s not plain sailing but she clings to the knowledge that although we can make plans it’s God that directs our path when we allow Him to be in charge. I love the spiritual growth of Connor as he realises he’s gone through the motions of prayer etc over the years but doesn’t have a real relationship with God. Again when he submits his desires to God he gets the desires of his heart. I highly recommend this book and all in this series. Each can be read independently but you get more from them if read in order as you feel like you really have met the individuals and got to know them. I was privileged to receive an ARC of this book. These comments are all my own.
I’ve enjoyed Every Single Book in the Discerning God’s Best series, and Vision of My Heart, Book 7 shined as bright as the rest of the series. Of course, we meet many familiar characters from the past, but you can approach each book as a standalone book, because Heidi pulls you into each book, into the featured hero and heroine’s sphere. She compels you to know and understand their world, their interests, their hurts, their joys, and their hearts’ desires. Heidi’s characters are always real people with flaws that gently tug at your heart strings. I love that the characters in this series grow and mature in their faith lives. The tension on the road to our hero and heroine’s life together is a little bumpy, but a joy to watch their honest, family-honoring, and God-loving journey. The setting is great. The description of sights and sounds helped me to “see” the world that Serafina lived in. The plot was well constructed, with some well-placed surprises that kept me turning pages and caused me to reflect. The character of Connor gives a steadfast and honest Christian testimony. Connor clings to the Lord even as humanly speaking, his way seems cloudy. I love that McGill always adds a slice of healthy didacticism.
What has attracted me to Heidi Gray McGill’s writing is her philosophy of “Fusing Faith and Fiction.” I knew I would find a home with her writing, as one of my top criteria for convincing fiction writing is that I see integrated faith that produces or leads to faith-directed action. I want to see growing, interesting characters, and a setting that comes alive and Vision of My Heart did just that, it resonated. I love a book that continues to hum in your mind after the book cover is closed.
Quotes that Spoke: • Clint’s comment to Serafina after an encounter with a chair. “You’ll get your bearings, her father had said. He said some version of it every week, as if her bearings were a thing that could be found and set and counted on thereafter. As if blindness were a season she would move through rather than a country she now lived in” (page 121). • Connor has many choices to consider. He prays “I’m not asking You to make it easy, Lord. Just make it clear” (page 146). • Connor’s Prayer at Christmas, “We are grateful …. For purposes that don’t answer to our timelines and are better than what we would have built ourselves” (epilogue).
Vision of My Heart and the complete Discerning God’s Best series for me, is epitomized by the scripture verse Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Pickup this book up today and be enriched.
I really enjoyed this heartwarming, historical and inspirational romance! This novel is a great read on its own, but even better if read as the perfect ending to a very special series! If you’re like me and have been on the journey of reading Heidi’s McGill’s Discerning God’s Best series from the very beginning, then you are probably sad to see it end. However, this sweet story of Serafina and Connor as they both mature in their faith and find each other is not to be missed. In earlier books before the illness that left her blind, Serafina seemed to me to be a bit spoiled and shallow although very beautiful. She was mostly concerned with all the things she read about in her favorite magazine Godey’s Lady’s Book. Now we get to see Sera grow into a young woman who is beautiful inside and out because she finds her worth in God, but not without some struggles along the way. I loved the way the author helped me feel a little of what it must be like to be blind and that she included some of the family dynamics that come with having someone blind in the household. It’s not just the person with the disability that is affected! Sera shows us that she is courageous and has learned to find beauty in what ‘she can see’ with her remaining senses. I found myself wondering if perhaps I miss details because I focus too much on what is in my sight and not enough on what I can feel, hear or sense with my heart. Her ‘leading man’ Connor is a strong, brave, hard-working cowboy who is gentle enough to be a horse whisperer. The author includes realistic lessons of faith throughout the book and gives different perspectives without compromising God’s truth.
I received a complimentary copy of this book as part of the ARC team and a positive review was not required. These are my honest opinions about this book.
Serafina’s story touched me in such a tender way. I even loved her name. Serafina is exactly right for her, beautiful and memorable. Sadly, her blindness is part of her life, but it never becomes all that she is. Heidi Gray McGill lets us know Serafina through the way she listens, ponders, remembers, trusts, questions, and keeps moving forward. There is so much dignity in the way she is written, and I loved how naturally the details of her daily life helped me experience the world with her.
Connor brought such warmth, humor, and strength to the story. His steadiness with Serafina made me love him quickly, and the way he could make me laugh only added to it. The hymn moments made me smile and laugh out loud so many times, and those lighter touches gave their relationship such a natural tenderness. I loved watching the trust between them grow without Serafina ever feeling reduced to someone who needed rescuing.
The Ruth and Naomi thread was another detail and perspective I really appreciated. It added a beautiful layer of loyalty, belonging, and choosing to keep walking with someone even when the road ahead is uncertain. That fit so well with everything Serafina and Connor were facing.
The Christian faith in Vision of My Heart is one of the reasons this story meant so much to me. Trusting God, surrendering plans, believing that His purposes are still good, and continuing to follow Him when the future cannot be clearly seen are present throughout the story. The title itself became more meaningful to me as I read. There is physical sight, and then there is the deeper kind of seeing that comes through faith, trust, and knowing Who is leading.
There were emotions here that felt very real to me. Fear, hope, uncertainty, tenderness, grief over what has been lost, and the courage it takes to keep living fully when life looks nothing like what you once imagined. Serafina’s journey never felt flattened into an inspirational lesson. She and Connor felt like real people, and that made the emotional and spiritual parts of this story matter even more.
By the end, I was deeply attached to Serafina and Connor. I loved the way their story honored both tenderness and strength, and I loved how consistently it pointed to God and His faithfulness. Vision of My Heart was a beautiful ending to the wonderful Discerning God’s Best series, and one of those stories I was not ready to finish.
This series has clearly found a place in my heart because I already want to go back and read every book again.
I’m part of the author’s ARC team and received an eARC for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Such a well written book by Heidi McGill Gray about faith and learning how to put aside pride and trust in God. The characters must learn to overcome the obstacles in their life by turning to each other for support and strength. The author is very talented and knows how to capture your attention and hold it from page one. You will not be disappointed in this book and you will want to check out the other books in the series as well. This book is a good clean romance story and I highly recommend it.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All words are my own.
What a way to end a series! I really enjoyed the contrast between Serafina' s frustrations with her over protective family and Connor's willingness to be present but to also give her space. The unexpected introduction of Liam keeps one turning the pages to discover the outcome. Serafina develops from a child into a beautiful woman, and her happily ever after couldn’t be better! A lovely tale of trusting God through the darkness and finding joy in the journey.
What a beautiful book with a clean and beautiful romance story accompanying keeping faith even when life is hard. Based during early pioneer days, it’s a Christian historical fiction book that will draw you in from the first sentence to the last, and keep you waiting for the next book in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Sera and Connor’s story.
*I received a complimentary copy of this book and no reviews were necessary, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This final book in the Discerning God’s Best series, Vision of My Heart is beautifully and tenderly written. Serafina (Sera) loses her vision from having smallpox when she was little. She gets along very well, knows where everything is in the house and even outside. She has a big, flat rock a ways from the house that she asks her dad to make a trail to for her, so she won’t get lost. She has been so responsible, that her dad (Clint Shankles) has a trail made for her out of timber down each side all the way to the rock and back home. Just as we are all tempted at times, so Sera was tempted to get closer to the stream right below her rock. She just wanted to put her feet in it for a few minutes. She couldn’t see that it was about to storm. She was already turned around, and then the hard deluge of rain made it impossible for her to get her bearings and get back home. Her neighbor, Connor Finnegan, rides up to see if she’s on her rock right as the rain starts pouring. Her sweet dog, Buddy, met him on the trail to the Shankles farm, barking, running, then barking and running again. Connor started calling her name and finally, he faintly hears her. He saves her out of the water and hurries her home on his horse. I am not going to go into details about the rest of the book…I do want you to desire the book, and it is definitely worth whatever you pay for it, but I can’t do spoilers! My heart is sad that there will be no more Shankles family books. You need to get his last one for your collection! 📕♥️🙏
I loved every bit of this book. Even at night when I was tried I could stop reading! Sera was the best character I've have ever experienced. But Conner was a character close to my heart. I grew up in an Irish family, so I understood the background of the people. Thank you so much for this enjoyable book.
This is book #7 and the finale book in the Discerning God's Best but can be read as a standalone bookl
Serafina (Sera) lost her eyesight from having small pox in the previous book and is adjusting to getting around again on the farm using her other senses. Connor works for a neighbouring ranch and is intrigued by Sera and they get to know each other at the pond on Sera's family's farm and both start to develop feelings for each other.
I fell in love with the characters and I am sad to see this series end.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. The review expressed here is my honest opinion.
What a great conclusion to the series. I loved this book. The truth and trust that was shared in this book spoke to my heart. The verses and the message flowed so easily in line with the story. Im sad to see the series end.
In Vision of My Heart, Serafina is challenged by the task of learning to live a life in darkness. Having been left blind as a result of smallpox, Sera’s family can’t help but place protective limits on her daily activities while all she wants is to feel helpful and useful again. Connor, a horse whisperer from a neighboring farm, sees past Sera‘s blindness to her beautiful strength and faith. Connor’s humorous way of rewording hymns made me chuckle and softened my heart just as it did Serafina’s. This is a sweet story of blossoming love and strengthening faith that you don’t want to miss.
I was privileged to receive an ARC of this book. All comments are my own.
Serafina has learned to navigate her life after losing her sight but she has to learn to let go of her plans and trust God. Connor has lived a life full of trials and tragedy but he has come through it with a strong support system and a good life. Some curve balls are thrown his way and he has to figure out if he’s going to follow his plan or give it to God and trust that He has it all under control. This is a wonderful story of faith, family and learning to grow in a relationship with God.
4.25 stars The series is done! I have enjoyed the journey of these characters so much. It was so heartwarming and I will say that Heidi Gray McGill did an excellent job with how she would drag in some of the characters we have come to know and love over the course of her series into this story in particular.
We read about the birth of Serafina in one of the first stories. We saw her popping in and out of other stories. In the previous book, she came down with an illness (that was such a sad book). She became blind due to smallpox. It was heartbreaking to read.
This was one of the least heartbreaking books, but there was a small problem that came up in it. Sometimes the hardest thing we go through is our own pain and trying to find our own way in life, like Sera and Connor in this story.
It has only been a few months since Serafina/Sera became blind. I feel it calmed her down and humbled her. Instead of being vain and upset over it all, she has learned to accept it and enjoy what she can get from it. There were things that she once loved to do and was so talented in that she no longer could do. One of those things was that she used to love to read. There was a character who asked her if she still read, which was a bit odd to me considering she is known to be blind. Perhaps there could have been something for her to learn about Braille in this book, but that could have also taken away from the story, and I get that. Perhaps she could also have learned how to do some art while blind, which I think would have been fun too. She just really loved being out in nature and listening to the beauty around her rather than creating beauty as she once did. I liked that. It helped her draw into God and His purpose for her. She questioned it. She didn't want to be a burden to others. It was something that she really didn't like. She didn't want people to fawn all over her but allow her to have her own way to do things more independently while blind.
Connor was a lesser mentioned character that I suppose was brought up in the story about Lizzie (book two), whom I had forgotten about. He would only have been about 15 in that story though, while in this one, he is now 32 years old. A lot has happened in that time. As a man, he doesn't have money (which to me didn't really make sense with him working so much and living on the ranch for Pete Manning. You'd think he would have stored some away for himself). He enjoys working with the horses and getting them ready for ownership as part of the business. He's always had a deep love for the horses.
When he realizes that Serafina is now a woman who has a gift for hearing things most people don't notice or pay attention to, he is intrigued by her. He starts getting to know her and meeting up with her at the pond on her family's property, since Pete and Clint do a lot of business together (Clint is her father, who was in most of the books). The two of them start to miss one another when not together and they realize they are developing feelings for one another. Sera has doubts and Connor starts to finally realize he needs to do something to plan for a future.
Connor is approached with a situation that comes up. It has to do with his deceased twin brother. Throughout this book he thinks about him and misses him. I am glad that this is brought up, because when you have someone who means something to you for so long, and they are gone, you will always have a bit of a hole in your heart for that person. I am sure a twin especially would be impactful. This situation is what causes a bit of a struggle and problem between Connor and Sera.
As for their age gap, I don't think that would have really mattered all that much back then, and it was brought up maybe two or three times about their age. Today, I know if I were nearly 19, I would think Connor as an old man and that would gross me out (but then again, I dated/married someone only 9 months older than myself). It worked out because you could see how they had that connection mainly on a spiritual and emotional level than anything.
Speaking of spirituality in this book, I absolutely loved it. The characters pray often, question things in their beliefs with things going on around them. They have their struggles. Connor is silly and recreates lyrics for well-known hymns throughout his days (and he can't sing too well). Sometimes he sings them as they are too. I always like how Heidi Gray McGill writes about faith in her stories.
While Clint has always been a shining person of faith in these stories, and a great father, we never really get to see Rachel come back to show her motherly love. In this one, we got to see her show that. I really love how she wanted to listen to Serafina when going through hardships and that her daughter trusted her enough to tell her what she was feeling. That was special. Rachel was our first main character, so I wanted that badly, and was very satisfied!
This love story was very special and sweet. I liked this story. It was a nice way to wrap up the series. I wish there were a bit of an epilogue or something in it, but it was still lovely.
Random note #1: I love that there was a dog named Buddy trying to help lead Sera around (without having a leash or anything). I always have enjoyed the old Seeing Eye story about the dog Buddy (which The Seeing Eye was not a thing at that time at all, not really until the 1920s, but still I felt like it was fitting). My point is, I live in NJ and have been to The Seeing Eye a few times in my life, a place that helps train and match people with dogs who lead the blind. The first dog's name was Buddy. Just my tidbit.
Random Note #2:
Rnadom Note #3: I'm sad this book series is over but I look forward to learning what Heidi Gray McGill will write next!
God’s purpose. The Discerning God’s Best series is all about God working in a person’s life to bring about His purpose. Vision of My Heart is a sweet love story between Serafina and Connor. Serafina lost her eyesight due to smallpox is struggling to find her way on her own. She doesn’t want people treating her any different especially like someone who needed constant care. Connor loves to make up words to ‘Be Thou My Vision’, singing with not so good a voice. Connor seems to be a fun yet serious person. He did have a lot of pride, but he realized that his gift of horse training was a gift from God. I liked how Sera’s father told her, “Sera, the Lord did not take your sight and leave you less. He only changed the way you must walk”. And Sera did just that, she did not let her blindness slow her down. I liked that way she could tell where things were by hearing and what they looked like by smell. Buddy was such a loving and compassionate companion, always there to help Sera with her feelings and when she needed help. Sera loved Connor for the way he treated her. Not as a helpless blind person. He didn’t guide her, didn’t take her-he went with her. It was fun to read about all the wonderful characters in all the other books in this series coming together in celebrations. Throughout the series you see how God works in people’s livies, not always how they thought things would turn out. I recommend this book to those who want a sweet inspirational story. I received this book as an ARC reader.
This is such a sweet, heartwarming story. If you have followed this series, you have followed Serafina from day one of her life to finally getting her happily ever after. She has had her trials, but is still positive and independent. Her blindness which was caused from a case of smallpox has not slowed her down. Her love to be out and about in nature is as strong as ever. One of my favorite scenes was when Serafina’s father said do you want to watch the sunset with me, knowing she couldn’t see it, but she could feel it and hear him describe it, I thought that was such a special moment. I also enjoyed the relationship she shared with her mother. They never sheltered her or made her feel disabled. They gave her opportunities where she could grow and develop in other ways. I really enjoyed the connection between Serafina and Connor, there were a few twist and turns that had me wondering if they were meant to be. Connor was such a man of conviction and loyalty. He also had a way of making witty lyrics to lighten the mood. Their faith and belief in the Lord above, was a strong part of this book. Even though that path was not always easy. They never lost their way. This is a beautiful conclusion to the series. I am sad to see the characters go, but look forward to what’s to come next. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Vision of my Heart is the final book in the Discerning God’s Best series and is truly the frosting on the cake of this moving series. All the stories are well-written with relatable characters and interesting plots, but Vision of My Heart ministered to me in a way the other books did not. I read the ebook edition and highlighted more than a few passages that spoke to me. Serafina has been forced to grow up quickly as a result of being blinded by smallpox. Her family alternately tiptoes around her or tries to make things easier/better for her. To her dismay, her blindness has begun to define her. Her struggles to come to terms with her blindness are real and realistic. She is a believer, but her faith waivers. I’d hazard a guess most of us have been there: “She’d lain things down for months and picked them back up and lain them down again, and she was tired of the laying down, tired of the faithful patience of it, tired of standing at the edge of something she could do nothing about.” But as Serafina is reminded, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the purpose of God that prevails.” And that’s what she must come to terms with. Fortunately, she is befriended by Connor who helps her do just that. Their relationship is sweet, and I love how he treats her – normally, yet with great care, conveying that she is a treasure. I laughed, sighed, and cried. A must read.
Vision of My Heart is an outstanding adieu to the amazing Discerning God's Best series. It is difficult to put into words how deeply this series resonated with me, warming my heart and uplifting my spirit. This beautifully crafted final addition to the series is my favorite. I loved reuniting with all the wonderful characters of the Shumard Oak Bend "family". Ms. McGill has an extraordinary talent for creating believable, unforgettable characters who speak to me and become friends. I admire Serafina's strength and courage, as she meets the challenges of a life without physical sight, and Connor's determination and wit. I love how they bring out the best in each other. I especially appreciate the profoundly inspiring message of faith reflecting how God works in our lives, sometimes in unexpected ways, as we surrender to His will. I love this heartfelt, captivating Christian historical romance read with moments that made me ponder, others that made me laugh out loud, and others that brought joyful tears. I highly recommend this book and the series. I can't wait to see where this author takes me next! I received a copy of this book from the author with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I had the honor of joining McGill’s launch team and receiving an advance reader copy of The Vision of My Heart. McGill is an author I repeatedly return to, knowing each novel will be filled with depth, humor, and spiritual insight.
Vision of My Heart features the would-be cosmopolitan Sera, whose years studying the illustrations and stories in The Godey Ladies' Book seem almost wasted now that she’s lost her sight. She never intended to stay at home on her parents’ farm. She’d planned to travel the world and paint its vast landscapes. But complications from measles left her scarred and sightless, so now her travels are restricted to the fence line of the property.
Connor works as a ranch hand and horse trainer at the neighboring farm. He’s noticed Sera and admires her grit and determination to do more; to be more. He just wishes he could be more for her. Living on a ranch hand’s salary, he doesn’t have much to offer—not even a home of his own since he lives in the bunk house. Still, he can at least help build a path to give Sera a wider world to explore. He can talk to her and entertain her with parodies of favorite hymns. Most importantly, he can be the friend she needs.
Vision of My Heart is beautifully written and dovetails gorgeously with the rest of the Discerning God’s Best series.
This is one of those stories that you sink into and wrap around you. So beautifully written, such lovely people. Sera lost her eyesight to smallpox but gained new vision. She is careful but wants to be treated as normal and to do things on her own. Her family, especially her father, is very protective of her but she breaks out on her own when she can. Connor is captivated by her but he's poor Irish, although he's worked hard to build his reputation with horses and as a person. They become closer during a storm and get closer as time goes on but each fight with their own feelings of inadequacy and uncertainty. Their strong faith and personalities make you feel comfortable with them and pull on your heart strings. A lovely book for yourself or a gift you can feel good about. A book I can highly recommend.
I received this book free from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I received the book from the author and read it as a beta reader.
Serafina does not expect God to fulfill the desires she once had. Before smallpox, she was concerned about her looks and her clothing. The aftermath of smallpox, marks on her face and the loss of sight, left her wondering what to do with her life and how she could be useful. She didn’t think anyone would love her now. Connor, thirteen years older than Sera, is lead hand for Pete Manning’s horse farm. He is a horse whisperer who doesn’t realize what a gift it is. He is captivated by Sera and treats her as a regular person, not something fragile because she’s blind. They both have things they need to surrender to God’s will, just as we do at times. When they surrender, God can work in wonderful ways to bring them together. This last book in the Discerning God’s Best series is a beautiful wrap up and such a wonderful reminder that our Heavenly Father knows what is best for us. I loved this story and stopped to ponder several times and chuckled many times at Connor’s new words to beloved hymns.
Loved Connor and Sera's story!! Sera is still learning to live with blindness. She feels that her family won't let her do more because of her blindness. Connor's not sure what he wants, though he knows he'd like to own his own land someday. When he accidentally meets Sera at the creek on family's property one day, he's drawn to her. He admires her for the way she's adapted to her blindness. When he finds her after she's gotten lost in a thunderstorm, he longs for something he's sure he'll never have. First, she much younger than he is, and second, the only thing he owns is his horse. He's been struggling with faith, and when he finally surrenders to God, he realizes that he just may get the desire of his heart. He finally sees, though, that even if he doesn't get what he thinks he wants, God will see him through and be with him all the way. Love how everything comes together!! This was great ending to this series, though I'm sorry it's ending.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.
This is my voluntary review of a copy I was given.
Sera lost her sight to smallpox and along with it, she lost her vanity and some of her confidence. Her parents treat her like she's fragile, but better that than being treated like a burden. She's doing her best to adapt to her new normal and only regrets that she'll never marry or have children. Who would want to marry a blind girl with pox marks on her face?
Connor thought her lovely when he met her years ago. He still sees her beauty but also her strength. He's inspired by the way she wants and works toward some independence.
As they spend time together, he realizes that he loves her. He loves her enough to work out a way to be able to provide for her and also to wait for her father's consent before even revealing his feelings to her.
I really enjoyed this story. There are some dramatic moments and a few moments that made me chuckle. Through it all is a foundation of love of and for the Lord and respect for family.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, and a positive review was not a requirement. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed the pull of Connor and Serafina to each other. Serafina lost her eyesight but she doesn’t let it slow her down. Connor came from Ireland and is working on a ranch. They both have much to prove. I hadn’t expected to like Serafina and her story, but I ended up really liking her. She wasn’t as vapid and shallow as I thought she was in the previous book. Her maturity added so much to the story. And who doesn’t love a strong, hard working cowboy that does the right thing, no matter what?
I really enjoyed the struggle they both went through and the process of surrendering their wants to the Lord. What sweet family and life they received because of it. Oh, I liked this book more than I expected.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, and a positive review was not required. This Clean and Wholesome Inspirational book is # 7 in a series of Christian Historical Romance. Heidi has written this book with correct historical facts and draws the reader into the story and then it is difficult to put the book down. The characters are realistically portrayed and have their own troubles and issues typical for the times. They grow in their walk with the Lord as they mature and deal with daily life and their trials. You must read to follow their life and be encouraged in your own Christian life.
I was given this book by the author, to read as an ARC. My review is completely unbiased. Beautiful Serafina, skin like porcelain. Then smallpox epidemic hits her small town in MO. She gets the virus, and it leaves that porcelain skin marked and her sight gone. The author tells the story of a young wan blinded by disease rediscovering her life.A year later, she's no longer asking why. She now knows this wasn't God picking on her. Can she find the future she always dreamed of? Marriage, home of her own, a family? This was a story I looked forward to reading and now reviewing . I highly recommend it.
What happens when you get smallpox and lose your eyesight? That's what Serafina finds out. She feels like she is not herself anymore. But, when she gets stranded far from home, Conner comes to her rescue. Can she learn to trust again? Did God bring them together for a purpose? This book is a clean and wholesome inspirational romance. As with all of the books in this series, it pulls you right in. I highly recommend you read this one. I did get a copy of the book from the author, but the review is my own opinion.
Vision of My Heart was the perfect wrap for this Christian historical fiction series. I loved “seeing” life through the eyes of the blind heroine, Serafina. The sensory details pulled me into the story and into the lives and hearts of both main characters. If you enjoy frontier life, wholesome, inspirational romance with a strong Christian point of view, you will thoroughly enjoy Vision of My Heart. I received a complimentary copy of the book, and a positive review was not required.
This Discerning God's heart series has been uplifting and inspiring. In this book a young woman faces the challenges of living blind, and a man struggles with his faith. How will God work in their lives? A town grows and chose a mayor. I loved how you saw it grow and change in the series. I recommend all 7 books. I am grateful for the opportunity to help this author promote her books. She does a great job.
