A human woman is fired to an alien warlord and held captive on his droid filled space station. He needs a mate to survive—She may be the one who conquers him instead.
Gifted to the Alien Warlord is part of the smutty novella collection, Petra Palerno’s Filthy Shorts, that feature otherworldly love interests.
This Beauty and the Beast retelling features alien romance, fancy peen, size difference, unique knotting, enemies to lovers, a calloused warlord MMC, and a Floridian exotic dancer FMC.
We're back in the Bubble Babes world with a human lady who (unfortunately) is stuck with the Deenz doing the dancing thing (in a bubble, AS ONE DOES when the Deenz are involved). Mae is good at dancing, she doesn't mind doing it in front of others, and as long as she keeps her head down this is a pretty cushy gig. Well, except that she's so good at it that she's now being handed over to an alien warlord.
Whoops. There are times when being extremely good at something has a downside (although it ends up being an upside, so there you go).
Anywho. Mae ends up on Mekkra's space station. She's not happy about this. She was shot up with the horndog juice prior to being jettisoned to him and things get a little INTENSE during their first meeting. Mae has to deal with the fallout of that, plus Mekkra's extreme mood swings as he tries not to succumb to the madness hovering on the edge of his mind.
Honestly, the poor guy's a mess. He's wracked with guilt, desperately needs Mae to bond with him, and is kind of growly and snarly more often than not. Which really isn't his fault. He's skating an edge that is getting mighty thin.
One gross, entitled alien (not Mae's warlord!), one seriously perky droid helper, a few dangerous moments, a warlord who needs his special someone something fierce, and a lady who just might have found something special in a situation that is messy.
“Are you willing to fight to win me? Because I don’t surrender. I choose.”
Gifted to the Alien Warlord is a standalone high-heat, fast paced, action-packed alien/monster romance novella taking place in the same universe as the Bubble Babes series.
OH I ATE THIS UP! This is a fast read that absolutely captured my attention! I loved the power & confidence that our FMC displays and embraces!! I absolutely mentally fist-pumped at how fiercely she owns her sexuality! I’m a sucker for Alien mating rituals and this one was FANTASTIC!
I’m always on the lookout for a short novella! The plot was great, and I really enjoyed the story. Mekkra is such a whirlwind of chaos and unpredictability. Mae starts off being compliant and complacent, but then she finds her inner strength and stands up for herself, which is always great to see.
I find myself always engaging inPetra’s stories! They always stir up strong emotions, leaving you feeling a mix of shock, anger, sadness, joy, or laughter—or even all of the above!
Alien romance novella Set in Bubble Babes world Beauty & the beast retelling Exotic dancer FMC Forced proximity Caretaking Fancy peen Size difference Mates No 3rd act breakup HEA
This is a cute little alien romance novella from Petra Palerno, part of her “smutty novella” series, and it also ties into her *Bubble Babes* world, which was such a fun surprise. I didn’t expect that callback, but it added an extra layer of enjoyment. It’s essentially an alien retelling of Beauty and the Beast, which is always a win for me. I went in open-minded (I enjoy this author and I’m always here for escapist, spicy romance), and this was a genuinely delightful, easy read.
That said… I was a little thrown off by the spice level. For something marketed as a “smutty novella,” I expected it to lean more toward erotica, and it just didn’t quite get there. There are 3 spicy scenes, but only one is full on sex, and even that one is more sweet than explicit. Not a bad thing at all, it actually fits the tone of the relationship, but it did feel slightly misleading compared to the marketing.
What did work really well for me was the romance itself. The relationship starts off rocky, as she was sold unexpectedly to a "beast", but the MMC quickly proves himself in ways that really mattered. He recognizes the power imbalance between them and actively works to correct it; giving her autonomy, resources, and a genuine choice to leave with no strings attached. That made her decision to stay feel meaningful rather than forced, which I appreciated.
His backstory also adds some depth. His species faces a kind of cyclical madness if they don’t find a mate, and there’s a real sense of urgency and desperation there. It’s not fully fleshed out, but it adds enough emotional weight to his actions and makes you feel for him.
On the retelling side, I had fun with how the *Beauty and the Beast* elements were adapted. The “Beast” design was very reminiscent of the original, and the “Belle” equivalent being an exotic dancer was unexpectedly amusing, but it actually worked within the context of the Bubble Babes world. I do wish we’d gotten some version of a “library scene,” though, that felt like a missed opportunity.
At the end of the day, once I adjusted my expectations around the spice level, this turned into a really enjoyable read. It’s lighthearted, fast-paced, a little creative, and ultimately sweet. Perfect for a quick, feel-good escape, especially if you like aliens and retellings.
Bonus: the super friendly robot, Starcroft, was an adorable addition. Would definitely love to have a Droid like him.
Somehow everyone but me knew this was a Beauty & The Beast retelling. It was totally lost on me 🫣
This is a monster romance or maybe even could be classified as an alien romance. This is also a spicy story. Make sure you know what those mean before reading
First, let’s talk about that 🍆😊 it’s described as like a blossoming flower, which I love that description. There are five heads so you’re getting the image now. Anyways? I really want you to read this so I’ll say there is also 🪢 and ( remember I didn’t know this was a retelling so take this with my ignorance in mind) I am pretty sure they’re the knot? 🫨
Anyways, now that you’re intrigued let’s go to the story. I highly suggest you check the TW before reading as to me this novella seemed a little more darker than the other bubble babes stories. Like, the themes touch on nonconsensual intercourse
Mekkra is the MMC and the space warlord. He’s also a plant daddy and that’s just too damn hot. He also is a consent king and would never hurt Mae, the FMC, his mate. He has some demons he’s working through as well as some biological issues. Like, he NEEDS to get a mate ASAP so he doesn’t turn into this murdering monster.
He’s a broody character or he comes off as such. It seems to be a front as Mae scolds him for being a tough guy and asking by him to not be with her. He’s deeply lonely and is so ready to love. He’s a sweet dufus
Mae is a bubble babe so it means she was captured by the Deenz a hive mind alien species who are not good at all. They suck. No one likes them.
Mae was a stripper on earth and for her it was a source of income and also gave her controls over her autonomy. However, this new situation as a bubble babe enslaved by the Deenz has been a total opposite experience for her.
Mae is able to regain her autonomy, a sense of herself, and finally be free with Mekkra. They also make a really great team not only fighting bad guys, but helping each other heal.

Tropes: 👽 Midnight Ballerina FMC 👽 Cute Sidekick 👽 Unique Peen 👽 Beauty and the Beast retelling
Gifted to the Alien Warlord is Beauty and the Beast retelling Novella by Petra Palerno. It is part of her Filthy Shorts collection. The story is in the same world as Bubble Babes.
Our FMC, Mae is a midnight ballerina from Florida before she is abducted by the Deenz. She already has the skills and practice to werk it in her bubble. Mae is a very lucrative bubble babe who keeps her head down and plays the Deenz game in the name of survival. That is until she is gifted to our MMC.
Our beast, Mekkra is looking for a mate before it’s too late. He is a warlord that controls an important trade route and that means he is loaded. His ship is controlled by robots. One of those robots, Scarcroft serves as intermediary between our main characters and seeks to befriend Mae. Starcroft is loyal, earnest and such a wonderful parallel character to Beauty and the Beast.
This story was deeper than I expected a novella with the page count to be. I would have happily read even more about this couple. Mae is such a complete FMC. She is proud of her sex work, and she survives the bad situation she was put into using her body. I love her spunk but also love when we get to see her softness. I’ve read all the bubble babes stories and appreciate this addition. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites. I was always disappointed when Beast transforms back to a human, so this MMC and story really hit the spot for me.
✨ARC Review✨ I’m a huge sucker for a fairytale retelling – especially an adult version, bonus points if it’s spicy! – and I’m a monster lover so anything monster romance is usually an automatic yes for me. The overall vibe reminded me a bit of Ice Planet Barbarians and I love that series! I also appreciated that he was a beast because that’s always the correct answer. Mekkra was honestly really adorable with that soft, slightly unhinged energy that works so well for this kind of character. He was probably my favorite part of the book!
That said…there were some things that didn’t fully work for me. The way they first meet was a bit too much for my personal taste – I read the trigger warnings about the aphrodisiac and dubcon but I really didn’t expect it to be their first encounter. The romance also felt a bit off with a lot of hot and cold, back and forth tension and then it felt like they were suddenly in love so it didn’t feel as earned as I wanted it to. Mae as a character was a bit harder for me to connect with than I expected, as well. I loved that she was a proud sex worker but her attitude and indecisiveness made it difficult for me to fully get on her side.
Overall, I enjoyed this book but it didn’t quite live up to what I was hoping for. That said, I really enjoy Petra’s writing style even if this particular story wasn’t a hit for me so I’m very excited to dive into some of her other books!

This is a delicious sci-fi Beauty and the Beast reimagining novella. It is part of Petra Palerno's Filthy Shorts series of standalones and is set in the same universe as the Bubble Babes series.
FMC Mae was an exotic dancer on Earth and is doing her best to follow orders after being kidnapped by aliens and forced to perform in a bubble for strange alien audiences. Things take a dramatic turn when she is sold to the beastly alien warlord MMC Mekkra on a space station run by droids, who desperately needs a mate.
I really enjoyed this book. Beauty and the Beast was always a favorite of mine, so I love the format, and this was a fun, fast-paced, high-heat interpretation. I liked the connection to the Bubble Babes series without it needing to be read to be enjoyed. The FMC was a firecracker, and the MMC was intense but not cruel. Their relationship got off to a rocky start and developed a bit backwards, but it was fun to watch them get to know each other and work together. Plus, there was a quirky droid butler.
Another fun, quick, spicy read. I can’t wait to see what’s in store next in this universe!

I received an advance review copy (ARC) and am sharing my honest, unbiased review.
Gifted to the Alien Warlord is a Beauty and the Beast retelling staying very true to the story. I swear at one point, I could almost hear Be Our Guest.
I haven't read any of the earlier Bubble Babes or Filthy Shorts stories before, but that wasn't a hindrance to the flow of the story at all.
My opinion of the story in one word? Fantastic!
Such a good story! Accomplishing a full story in a very limited number of pages. I didn't feel I was missing anything at any point. And the hurt/comfort was top tier.
I love that Mae is proud of being a great stripper, even if that landed her in a very ugly situation.
I should note that the story contains noncon (remember to read those trigger warnings, people), which is always difficult for me, but it was on the "softer" side.
This book is for you if you want a quick "Filthy short" that is actually a full story in limited space, and a new take on your childhood love of "The Beast".
A cute and steamy Beauty and the Beast in space! I liked both characters and the story. The ending positively surprised me ;) Our FMC was an exotic dancer from Florida who spent years in space performing for aliens after being abducted by some species that apparently specialized in trafficking and exploiting humans for profit. Without warning, her routine performance ends, and she learns she has been sold to an alien Warlord. The poor woman was terrified, and it didn't help that the Warlord had extreme mood swings. Our MMC was a Warlord controlling an important space trade route. He was wealthy and comfortable until the madness that took unmated males of his species sank its claws into him. He was too long without finding a mate, and when he traded for one, he had to fight with his unstable mind to keep her safe and get to know her. With a giant, space slug that wanted the best dancer in space for himself, trying his best to ruin their growing relationship, this short was full of action and romance ;) Oh, and I loved the little robot!
Gleeful Goblin Review: I'm always up for a Beauty & The Beast retelling but I gotta say, this author did an outstanding and memorable job. We have an incredible mirroring of the storyline from Disney film but with a very Bubble Babes style twist to it.
Mekkra is an incredibly good Beast and since this is a novella we move way faster through the awkward phase where Beast is only angry and surly to his Beauty (Mae) and into the heart of the story. I absolutely love the reasoning behind Mekkra having to take Mae into his home and how that reasoning pushes the story. I just about lost it here: “You shouldn’t want to help me.” He coughs, and small splatters of dark bl00d spray from his mouth as he speaks. “You don’t belong anywhere near me.” The words land heavier than the bl00d. “Well, I do, now lie thtill!” There’s a sternness to my voice I haven’t heard in years. I didn’t dare stand up to the Deenz because I wanted to live, and I didn’t want to face their harsh repercussions. I don’t know when I decided Mekkra was worth the risk." Even though it's a short story, it's long on loveable. 5/5 Stars
I'm new to the bubble babe universe and I have to say that I can't wait to go back and fully dive into this series. Mae, an exotic dancer that was kidnapped, has been playing the game, and quite successfully, as a bubble babe...until she gets gifted to Warlord, Mekkra. This is a Beauty and the Beast retelling but has our gal rather fierce and very confident in her sexuality. However, she had a wonderful soft side, as well. Mekkra was quite wealthy but needed a mate soonest, making him rather intense and unhinged. Cue the temper tantrums that she stood up to so well ;P This made their rocky start full of a push pull tension. I loved his robots and Scarcroft added such depth to their story by befriending Mae. 'Gaston' was perfectly slimy! I will mention that you need to check the trigger warnings as there is definitely a situation of noncon, although it's fairly soft, if I can say it that way. This is a fast paced, action packed and intense read that has drama, danger and spice. I loved it and can't wait for more ;D
I love these lil novellas that Petra Palerno is putting out!!! Gifted to the Alien Warlord was SO GOOD!!!! Mae is a bubble babe who knows how to werk it!! Originally a stripper from Florida, Mae works her a$$ off to be a docile and a obediant dancer for the Deenz so they don’t hurt her, or give her go go juice. She’s one of the best and because of that, a warlord had traded with the Deenz for her. Mekkra is a big surly beast who needs a mate and he gets super frustrated when Mae doesn’t cooperate the way he’d hoped. This book is like a beauty and the beast reimagining. Mekkra throws his temper tantrums and Mae stands her ground. She’s so freaking brave and bada$$. I truly love her!!! These two are really adorable. They’re more alike than they thought and I love how they connect. As with all of Petra’s stories, this one is funny and hot! Yall aren’t ready for Mekkra’s special equipment 🍆
Disappointment is the first thing to pop in my head. I was expecting some stuff but not a lack of it. I didn't read the other books in the series. I mean for one the first book had a tiger looking thing with horns on it. Hard pass ! I'm thinking this is going to be fast paced and spicy asf. I think I got to about 70% of the book before even one them sealing their bond. A kiss at that. Wtf kind of bond is that in a book that's supposedly to super spicy. The story and writing has some quality to it. Just what was promised wasn't delivered or even closely. Oh also it's only one pov which it actually works. You got novella length with the spice of a slow burn. One scene with the special equipment. There's no dub con or non con. There's not even a hint of pregnancy either. Just talk about a huge let down. If your looking for a cinnamon roll cute cozy book here ya go. Lastly received this as arc and willingly leaving this review.
This short, sweet, and spicy sci-fi retelling of Beauty and the Beast was an amazing time. It is in the same universe as the Bubble Babes series, also by Petra Palerno, and in it, we meet Mae, a former Earth bound stripper, and Mekkra, a brutal alien warlord. It is a classic retelling, but done in a fun way. There are references galore throughout to the original story and animated movie. I particularly loved the vines growing around the ship, it gave it a fantastical vibe.
Overall, a really fun and quick read. The spice could have been more prevalent, and I do wish it was longer just so I could stay with these characters, but I understand it is, in fact, a novella so there was only so much the author could fit in.
I recommend this if you are into monster romance, sci-fi/alien romance, retellings, or a good time.
I LOVE FAIR TALE RETELLINGS. lol And Beauty and the Beast has ALWAYS been one of my favorites. The character in this version even looks, sort of, like an evolved version of the beast from my favorite cartoon version growing up. But I digress. In this story our gal, Mae, just wants to get through her day and do what her captors want without being pumped full of happy juice. Alas, not every day can go your way. She finds herself released from her alien captors and into the hands of a NEW alien. This one is big and hairy and spikey as well. Oh but he also seems to have a very chipper and eager to please robot companion. (Really though if you saw the 2000's version of Hitchhiker's Guide to Galaxy and recall how chipper the Heart of Gold's ship's computer was, that's this robot. I decided they're cousins. That's me so do NOT go asking the author, this it's not canon) Mekkra, for his part, is the only organic life on the station apart from a whole LOT of plants. He is best plant dad. So it's no wonder he needs some companionship. Here's the thing though, once he knows the score of how Mae came to be where she is, he doesn't push her. He doesn't force. He gets mad, but at those that did this. That makes Mae want to maybe, possibly give this guy a chance, to see if they can work it out. I really enjoyed their dynamic, and how they came together. It was a beautiful balance of romance, tension, humor, and even danger. And the ending, y'all the ending was just beautiful. I don't even know how to express how truly lovely it really was except to say you have to read it yourself to understand.
This book unfortunately gave me the ick. Not only am I not fond of using an aphrodisiac for the first sexual encounter. It's non-consensual and lazy writing, taking a shortcut to get them together. I know from the content warnings there would be an aphrodisiac and have read books with them before, but the way this trope was used did not work for me. But then they went back to hating each other with no communication whatsoever, only to go into another non-consensual scene with the bathing before the mating ceremony.
The majority of the book, our FMC is locked up with only a smirking exposition-bot for company. After the forced scenes, she decides she loves him. Just like that. And then we're forced to sit through 'I don't deserve you' from the MMC.
I did not enjoy my experience with this book and it's better if I don't try any of the others in this series.

Gifted to the alien warlord follows midnight ballerina Mae as she trades one alien captor for another, used to dancing for clients that her captors choose she now has to learn how to navigate belonging to grumbly warlord Mekkra. Mekkra is a big fluffy enigma and a softie at heart, Mae is a badass in her own right and there’s a real focus on consent and ethics within their dynamic which I appreciated! I loved the beauty & the beast vibes and the ending felt so right for them! Overall this was a refreshing short spicy read, the plot was interesting enough to hold mh attention but not complicated enough for me to feel like there were any loose ends!

Thank you to the author for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
this is a beauty and the beast retelling and the robot is the dresser, the other slug alien is the Sebastian.
My only intake in this is that it was hard to engage with the FMC. It was fine to be afraid with the whole alien abduction and stuff but I kind of had this confused back and forth when she was talking to the robot. Like she hates it and expressed it deeply but executing it was nonexistent? I’m not sure how to put this.
Like one moment she hates being captive and the next she was neutral about it and then threw a fit of tantrum like a child.
This is still a HEA, super fast paced, short novella of aliens and I’m okay with that.

5 ⭐️ 3🌶 This is for all the girlies who think the Beast should’ve stayed a beast in Beauty and The Beast! That was my favorite princess movie growing up and this grown up retelling of it was perfect! I really loved how Petra was able to transform this story into her own little universe but still had fun Easter eggs placed throughout the book. Literally my only critique is that I wish it was longer😭 I haven’t read a book by Petra Palerno that I didn’t love and this was no different. I loved Mae and how sure of herself she was, I loved Mekkra and the internal struggle he faced with his “beast”, and I loved the sidekick droid Starcroft!
This review is completely my own opinion and I would like to thank Petra Palerno for the ARC.
*ARC REVIEW* I devoured this filthy short by Petra 😅 This is a standalone, fast pace, steamy read that had me immediately in a trance.
It’s geared toward having beauty and the beast vibes, which I loved. I mean this scratched the “I just wish he would have stayed a beast” vibe 🤣
I adored seeing the yearning and development of feelings from Mae and Mekkra. I do wish though, there was more.
Another thing I feel like could have been an opportunity to write was more about Mae actually *showing* Mekkra her skills as a midnight ballerina (considering she admitted that she loved what she did before she was taken).
All in all, this book did not disappoint me and I still very much love Petra’s writing style. I will be adding this to my book club’s draft pool for book picks.
Love love love Petra’s stories, especially those from the Filthy Shorts. When the longer novels weren’t holding my interest, I grabbed this one and it 100% hit the spot (you know the spot). The story picked up quickly and I loved where it threw me. The FMC knew how to play by the rules but still stand up for herself, and, my fave, she was unabashedly vocal about her ‘dancing’ skills - YES GIRL. And the MMC, the very large, vicious alien warlord that needed a bride (our FMC baddie)? Surprise! He’s a consent king. Say less. As I said, the story picked up quickly and I wanted mooooore, more of their story, of the villain’s story (what happened to the other girls?!), but overall it was entertaining and spicy and the perfect little treat to send me off to my next literary girl dinner.
**Thank you to the Author for the e•ARC; all opinions are my own.**
4 ⭐️ 2.5 🌶
For Alien April this was so fun to read!!! It's got action, it's got spice, it's got a big angry & sad alien. It's even got a cute little droid companion! This takes place in the Bubble Babes universe, but you don't need to be familiar with that series to read this one. I had a lot of fun reading this one. I liked the MMC & FMC, I thought they were a good fit. I liked how Mae felt comfortable enough to be truly herself again, too.
I absolutely devoured this one. It’s a quick, spicy little escape that was exactly what I needed after crawling out of my sinus infection haze and back into my reading groove.
The vibes? Locked-in tension, a not-so-human “beast,” and that delicious push-pull that keeps you flipping pages like your life depends on it.
And then—like a tiny cherry on top of this intergalactic chaos—a cute robot companion 🤖💖 Instant emotional attachment. No notes. I would protect it with my life.
Short, steamy, and ridiculously fun… sometimes that’s exactly the kind of book your brain is begging for.
Short, spicy and intriguing just the perfect shot of monster to make your day!
This is a fantastic short story written in a kind of “Beauty and the Best” space retelling type and let me tell you it works wonders! You feel the vibe of the original story but with the right twists and mixed elements that make it so entertaining and interesting!
It gave us the perfect balance between a good amount of storyline and the fast paced story according to a novella style.
I really enjoyed it and had a great time knowing a little bit of this universe.
Thanks to Petra Palerno for the gifted copy, all opinions are my own.
Another Petra Palerno book that I absolutely loved! Mae and Mekkra were such a good twist on the classic Beauty and the Beast scenario. I loved the tension. The build up between them didn’t feel rushed even in the novella size.
Also, I’m obsessed with Starcroft!! One of the cutest droids ever, I’d die for him.
I’m always so glad to jump back into the Bubble Babes universe! Give this a read if you’re looking for a quick, spicy, but still adorable alien novella.
A sci-fi beauty and the beast retelling? YES PLEASE!!
This story is part of Petra’s “Filthy Shorts” collection, and while it was deliciously filthy, it genuinely had such a wonderful story and character arc!
Mae was taken from earth and is trying to make the best of the situation she has. Her one goal: SURVIVE! So finding out she has been gifted to an alien warlord, one that everyone seems to fear, leaves her wondering if she’s about to trade one prison for another. Mekkra is feared - as he should be. He’s taken down anyone who was in his path while he climbed the ranks. But what many don’t realize is that he is about to fall prey to an irreversible madness that impacts his species. The only cure? Find a mate in time - and the feisty little human Mae has no idea she’s his last chance.
While neither Mekkra nor Mae is excited about their situation at first, I’m glad they had Starcroft as he very much began to act like a little robot wingman for the two of them. I enjoyed the glimpses of vulnerability they showed each other over time, and I think this allowed their bond to genuinely grow. They both had lacked a lot of love in their lives, and they turned out to be exactly what the other person needed.
In terms of spice….I HAVE NEVER READ ABOUT A PEEN LIKE THAT BEFORE! It was so creative and shoutout to these two for being able to figure out how to “make it fit”. The passion between them was hot and I DEFINITELY see why this series is labeled “filthy”. If you’re in the mood for a spicy monster romance that is a strong retelling of beauty and the beast, you’ll want to check this out immediately!
P.S. Starcroft may be a robot, but no one here will be able to convince me that little guy doesn’t have feelings.
This bite sized alien romance was interesting and spicy! Mae is an Earth bound woman far from home, subjected to the whims of a trade group that gifts her to the alien warlord.
Originally a stripper, she brings each and every one of her wits about her to survive in space. They proved to be especially useful to the warlord who obtains her, and she finds herself in a situation she didn't expect.
I loved how she stood her ground through all of the changes and made the most of what was happening around her. A short but sweet read!
We all know by now I'm a sucker for a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I also love a novella. Throw in alien abduction romance? Multiple boxes being checked! I loved that the FMC was self confident and smart in this one WITH self preservation too. She made conscious decisions and enjoyed sex. Multidimensional FMCs do exist! Starcroft was a funny side character that I'd definitely like to see again in this series. Overall a great read, though I'd love more sexy time (I'm mentally ill when it comes to smut hahaha).
