About the author

Kazi Nazrul Islam (Bengali: কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম) was a Bengali poet, musician and revolutionary who pioneered poetic works espousing intense spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression. His poetry and nationalist activism earned him the popular title of Bidrohi Kobi (Rebel Poet). Accomplishing a large body of acclaimed works through his life, Nazrul is officially recognised as the national poet of Bangladesh and commemorated in India.

Fantastic book of religious poetry. So much soul and power in the writing. Nazrul is exceptional, his vocabulary spellbinding, his rhyming totally out of this world. He writes about the early life of our beloved prophet (peace be upon him) and makes us more aware of the notability of it all. The poems neatly form an epic that is packed with talent, technical brilliance and goodness for the soul. I must say I have always gone past Nazrul writings before, preferring to choose a couple of songs; I was wrong to do so. He was a precocious talent with great range, depth and skills. A student of Tagore, he does the master proud and produces the goods hungry readers of poetry want. 3 cheers for Nazrul! He was the best.
