An evil has descended upon the small town of Bedford, Virginia. Grisly murders on the nearby Blue Ridge Parkway are being blamed on a rogue bear. Only one man understands the true nature of the beast that haunts the parkway. And, he knows the only thing that can stop a werewolf is another werewolf.
Tony Bowman writes horror and thriller novels from his home in central North Carolina. He has written eight books and numerous short stories under this pseudonym and another sixteen under different pseudonyms.
A native of southwest Virginia's Appalachian Mountains, he and his wife Laurie have lived all over the country from northern California to Las Vegas to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. However, he is happiest when he is close to the mountains of his birth.
He is currently writing books that are part of his 'Appalachian Cycle' with novels about werewolves, vampires, witches, and ghosts in and around the hills of Virginia.
Not much for werewolves or romance novels, but this book was pretty good. The storyline flowed well and the characters were fleshed out well...I like to imagine what each character looks like...all in all this was worth my time. Will be looking for more of Mr. Boman's books...
Awesome story of good vs evil werewolves. Kept me guessing until halfway through as to the original history and had me rooting for the good wolves to win. Looking forward to reading the next story in series.
This is absolutely the way you do werewolves. It starts off with a friendly tap to the chin to make sure you're paying attention and then it proceeds to light up all of your good horror receptors. Good versus evil, check. Redemption arc, check. Gore, check. It was one hell of a ride and I'm so glad it kept showing up in my recs.
~ I received a free copy of this book from the author.
I have previously read three of Tony Bowman's books and had loved every single one of them. In fact, all three were given well-deserved 5 Star ratings by me and I added the rest of his books to my "To Be Read" list.
This story begins with the novella entitled "Nine Fingers: The Tucson Ripper" (which is currently being offered for free on Amazon) but it is not necessary to read the books in order to follow the storyline. However, why would you not when the novella is free?
Anyway, NINE FINGERS grabs your attention from the very beginning and doesn't let go until long after the last page has been read.
My advice to potential readers? Don't let the fact that this book contains werewolves discourage you from reading it. It is a far cry from the sappy and predictable Young Adult werewolf stories that seem to be dominating bookstore shelves on an alarmingly regular basis. This book is gritty, it's fast-paced. It's thrilling and terrifying in equal measure and the characters are both believable and compelling. In short, this book is FANTASTIC.
* A word of warning - there is sex and violence in this book and the violence does get graphic. This book is not recommended for readers under the age of eighteen.
I only discovered Tony Bowman's books this year. Initially I had entered to win a copy of one of his book's through the Goodreads Giveaway program. This giveaway win turned out to be the beginning of a love affair with Tony Bowman's books and has led to him earning a place on my list of all-time favourite authors.
One of the things that astounds me about Tony Bowman is that he writes whatever he wants and does not limit himself to a single genre. He has written Science Fiction, Horror, Thrillers, Paranormal Fiction and Post-Apocalyptic Fiction.
I have to admit that I generally do not like werewolf tales. They all seem to be the same or at least similar. This book may contain werewolves, but is UNIQUE. And, it is easily the best werewolf book I have ever read.
I love the fact that the author has not followed anyone else's view or belief of what a werewolf is. He has created an entire history and this book will scare the pants off its readers. Why? One word = PLAUSIBILITY.
Character Building = 5 Stars Plot = 5 Stars Originality = 5 Stars Readability = 5 Stars
OVERALL, I RATE THIS BOOK AS 5 OUT OF 5 STARS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you choose only one book in the paranormal fiction/werewolf/horror category to read this year or next, YOU MUST CHOOSE "NINE FINGERS".
I wanted a werewolf horror story and when I found this novel on Amazon and saw saw it was set in Virginia too (where( live) I went ahead and bought it. Okay, not completely set in Virginia, as some scenes in some chapters have it set in Arizona and also parts of Southwest, and one tie in Florida. This was when the readers needed to read the story from a werewolf pack out west and in the werewolf hero's past.
Ward Rickman drives his truck into Virginia, where it breaks down, and he heads into Bedford. Where he meets widow Loretta Ames and her daughter, Melissa. Loretta hires him for her winery as he has had experience working at one. She has checked up on him an learned everything she thought she has to hire him. But what his credit report and police report does not say is he is a werewolf. And that he is there, hunting another werewolf who went rogue and that he plans to kill. For there has been a murder of a student on the Parkway, the victim torn apart. And it is not the last one. Human serial killer? Or something worse. Meanwhile back in the Southwest, there is Hayden and his werewolf pack of twelve. They finds one of their own dead and suspect another of their kind. Which was Ward. The story was fast paced and kept me interested. I think once Ward got his killer werewolf the story could have ended there. That adding in the pack afterwards would have been better for a second book. The ending after that seems to be leading to another book concerning Melissa. Plus there is a female werewolf, Karen and a human Clyde that could make another book. Anyway, I felt adding the pack into the mix would have been better as a second book and why I felt this book got four stars over five stars.
I'm a huge fan of werewolves books but can't seem to find many that's not exotic. I like those to but not all the time. I read a few reviews and decided I would give this book a try. It was worth it and I was truly hooked!!!
You'll see werewolves in a whole new light. These ones don't sparkle, aren't noble, don't believe its a gift or any of that nonsense. Its face paced, sexy and a little violent. You will love it! I can't wait to read the next in the series.
Nine Fingers was a fantastic fun werewolf novel by Tony Bowman, it had had horror, suspense, and it thrilled you to the end. Great character development. This has become one of my newest favorite werewolf novels!
While it is a fine story rife with traditional werewolf shenanigans, it really missed the mark on being a memorable read. Plenty of gore, a lot of violence, a bit of suspense, and way too much hokey joking dialogue. The characters were not introduced, they just appeared in the narrative. Without knowing their backstory I had trouble identifying which name belonged to each character and keeping them catalogued in my imagination. No regrets reading this novel, but there exists no compelling argument to continue the series. Cannot recommend.
No one is fully good or evil, nothing is black and white, redemption is definitely a thing.
It’s so important to make characters that have believable struggles. Characters that are capable of both good and evil. Then letting those characters choose.
I see it as the importance of ambiguity and in my opinion it’s what makes characters believable and relatable.
Great work Tony Bowman. Keep it up. Oh and did I mention that I love werewolves?
Great start, wonderful writing, characters, setting and suspense. Until the motorcycle gang hunting the hero took over a motel, all turned into werewolves and began to eat various and sundry folks after turning a few into more werewolves, so the new werewolf could get even with the husband who dumped her for a newer model. All it needed was a partridge in a pear tree.
Really good storyline, I was very impressed with this book and so happy there are 2 more. This is right up there with Bane County by JR Rice and Tracks by Lyn Kelly. And plenty of room for spin-offs. I was really hoping Lucinda would have a happy ending with Raymond, but guess everything can't be too gooey in a werewolf book.
One of the better werewolf books I have read. The book features some of the best werewolf mythos and good plot development (by werewolf genre standards).
The climax is a bit weak and there a lot of logical loopholes e.g. one of the strongest werewolves who is also extremely intelligent is fought off by a pet dog. But still recommended for fans of Werewolf/Horror books.
I nearly gave up at the beginning of the book, went back and started over, I'm glad I did, I loved it, everything about the book was excellent, I will be looking for more books by the author.
I was very surprised and pleased with this twist filled tale! I was consistently amazed by the rollercoaster ride . Please note there is a bit of shifter erotica.
most books don't grab me much but the characters in this book and the next make me wantg to not put this book down real page turner, you can't resist rooting for the good guys. this book would make a good movie
This book was fantastic. Great characters and non-stop action. I also liked that the entire story was told in one book. No hints if you like werewolves read this book.
This one will keep you reading all night for sure! This book is a keeper as it leads you through twists and turns all the way to the final showdown! Could be a great movie!
Adding to my list of all time favorite werewolf stories! I love characters that are real and make me care about them, a real story with the added bonus of big, scary werewolves! This one is a winner!
Nine Fingers by Tony Bowman is a great book! Werewolf stories are one of my favorite books and this one is awesome! Love the characters and how some of the bad guys become somewhat good. On to book two. Can’t wait!!!
Bowman is a great Appalachian author, and pens an epic original werewolf tale. Nine Fingers holds some good scenes, with plenty of impressive ideas, and characters you either love to love or love to hate.
