This book was written not a few years ago, yet it is fortelling in its prediction of our current state of things environmental and social. We humans are essentially social animals. It might be said that our consciousness cuts us off from what is not self, and that this is in opposition to our inherent social nature and that religion, among other things, seeks to bridge that gap (my belief, not the book's). This book is a wonderful exploration into ways to bridge that self awareness and the communal nature of our species. This communal spirit is also, I believe, much better suited for our species existence on this planet of shrinking space and resources. A turning away from 'individuality at all costs' and a capitalist consumerism where spending is of higher patriotic duty than education in ethics, philosophy, and politics, is problematic.
