Outside of one awkward kiss she shared with a boy two years ago, Elara didn’t have much experience with men.
I’m sorry but I’m so so so tired of reading about super experienced men and totally inexperienced women. Seriously???
I also didn’t enjoy the two mentions of how he could be in bed with other women (mind you, he already knows the fmc… mind you, the second time he already likes her). Nope.
12% in: When he got home, he'd sink his cock into a slick cunt, and forget all about the girl who drove him mad, infesting his thoughts.
29% in: She could be at the longhouse, and he could be in his furs with a willing partner for the night. They'd both be happier for it. A restrained growl rumbled deep in his belly, his nails scraping along his scalp.
The idea of her alone and some faceless woman in his furs displeased him.
I promised myself to ignore those two if only she weren’t a virgin, but well, here we are, and I’m too mad to continue this now.
While I really appreciate the fmc grieving over her mom, I feel like 30% in she already kind of forgot about it.
The transition from “enemies” has already started, which is so soon, not to mention that I wouldn’t even count them as enemies in this beginning part of the book. Enemies who????

Intense, fast paced, and action packed, Heart of the Panther is a sweeping love story of epic romance and dangerous magic set in a Norse village threatened by meddling gods.
Following years after Heart of the Wolf ends, HotP follows Njall (Brielle and Leif’s son) and Elara, an English farmer who has suffered immeasurable loss but has been blessed with dangerous magic she doesn’t understand. We get the dual POV we were mostly missing in HofW, as well as some welcome tension and angst!! Where ‘Wolf’ was a quiet love story about fated love, ‘Panther’ offers us more grit, banter, action, and angst, making the HEA harder earned and that much sweeter.
When Njall and his warriors descend on Elara’s quiet village in search of supplies and a secret weapon against the growing battle between dangerous gods, Njall takes the brave fire-haired girl captive after she offers herself to protect her father.
Determined to see her only as a tool in the coming conflict, Njall can’t deny the pull he feels towards Elara, or the growing certainty that she is more than a weapon, but also his destiny. What unfolds is a delicious push/pull between two sharp tongued people, both with their own walls and traumas, and neither willing to bend.
I loved Elara. I’m not usually a fan of snarky stubborn FMCs, but Elara was never annoying or disrespectful or ignorant. She stood up for herself, kept her boundaries, and didn’t let Njall and his alpha-like demands get away with anything. I appreciated her blend of fierceness and softness; she was relatable, sympathetic and easy to root for.
Njall.. oh sweet down bad warrior. He tries so hard to deny his feelings for his fiery captive, but he falls hard and fast for her sharp tongue and scathing looks. I always appreciate Love’s MMCs because while perfection is boring, she never makes us wait long for these green flags to show up in all the right ways. Njall works hard for Elara’s forgiveness, and is willing to take advice and give space when he realizes she needs it (seriously my favorite microtrope - when a stubborn alpha MMC actually takes good advice).
Their romance felt epic and fated, and once they became a true team they were formidable.
I loved seeing Leif and Brielle again, as parents and seasoned leaders of the clan, and found parents for Elara. I loved that Njall made things right regarding taking Elara captive. I loved that Elara found her strength and magic to save the day, but wasn’t invincible. I cried at the end (you’ll see).
A few nitpicks?
-I wanted the transition from snarky adversaries to fated love to be a bit more drawn out. It felt quick, and I would have loved a few chapters of them just spending time getting to know each other and growing that love from the banter.
-more with the side characters. Loved Astra and Erik. Feral for Bjorn (his story next?! 🙏🏼) Love me a comedic golden retriever. I wanted more time with them all
-the magic and mythology could have been explained a bit better, there were times I was a tad confused and had to read slower to grasp what was being explained
-more spice!
Definitely recommend if you love epic romance, Norse mythology, action, grumpy/grumpy, he falls first and hard, innocent heroine with magic, banter and spice! Another excellent read from Love! She’s an autobuy author for me now!

In this epic historical fantasy, Elara lives in old England with her father and her troubled - having lost her mother and brother years ago. When the clan that killed her brother comes back to claim her father, she makes a deal with a soldier to spare him. She’s taken to a new world with new gods, tied to the violent, brooding soldier where she learns that her curse of hearing haunting, cryptic voices might actually be a blessing. The story centers on an intense romance and Elara’s role in the budding threat of Ragnarok, a looming battle of the Norse gods.
Features romatasy favorites:

The yearning is palpable and steamy. There physical interactions in the first half of the book seem a little unrealistic since one still has so much hatred for the other, but I almost don’t mind because it contributes to the tension. The slow burn finally ignites halfway through the book and is definitely worth it! Readers will be touched by the MMC’s unyielding devotion and worship of the FMC, their “opposites attract” dynamic, and how love as concept is portrayed as fierce and empowering.
The pacing is steady and the dialogue is natural, making it a smooth read. The world building is light with occasional attention to painting a descriptive environment - painting beautiful and vivid environments. Each MC’s thoughts & internal monologues feel a little repetitive at times, though ultimately they contribute to the development of their values & identity. Side characters are well developed - their personalities and emotional presence painted clearly even at the first introduction - and the family dynamic is heartwarming!
Grief is explored by the FMC’s battle with the draugar - a personification of how love can make the darkness of grief into something powerful. The value of life and the fear of death as shaped by different religions and cultures is also explored.
Despite the looming high stakes & darkness, the book is actually quite cozy - featuring lots of snuggling up in furs by the fire with hot drinks. Though there is another book in this series that comes before it, this reads as a standalone and I had no trouble understanding things without reading the first.

This was a buddy ARC read with @leigh_na_leabhar, and neither of us stood a chance. The tension, the journey, the yearning, the groveling, the devotion… absolutely top-tier and completely addictive.

The chemistry between Elara and Njall was EVERYTHING. The push and pull, the stolen moments, the way they fought their feelings while being completely drawn to each other *chef’s kiss*. The slow burn was absolutely worth it!

I have thoroughly enjoyed binging Michelle’s Viking world! From book 1, Heart of the Wolf, to this interconnected sequel standalone, you enter a world where the gods, Odin and Freya, are working to protect their world from Loki and the Draugars intent on causing chaos.
We follow a dual POV in HOTP. Elara is trying desperately to heal from her grief. After the death of her mother and brother, all she has left is her father. But when she gives herself up to the Viking clan raiding her home in hopes of saving her father and people, she finds herself facing loss again in the arms of her relictant fated mates.
Njall has been searching for the foretold seer and has finally found her… but she is also his mate AND she hates him… because he kidnapped her. Njall must learn to reconcile his deeds while Elara must overcome prejudices, fear, grief, and learn her new powers. All before death descends. They can only be victorious if they work together.
This was SUCH A PRECIOUS and cozy reluctant fated mates story. I so adored that we got to see the characters we fell in love with from book one and grow out found family. Our FMC was so sassy and super relatable as she walked through her grief. And our MMC! Wow. I just adored his dynamic, eventual humility, protectiveness, and passion. This was a much slower burn than book 1 and that tension and yearning was top tier!

This was a super fun read! I loved seeing their push/pull give way to Njall's deep devotion.

This was a super fun read! I loved seeing their push/pull give way to Njall's deep devotion.
This had a really interesting exploration of grief and loss, including how Elara's magic is tied to it. Njall's Norse beliefs about death not being something to avoid were contrasted against Elara's medieval English beliefs. She also had to work through Njall's role in the village in order to be the partner he needed.
My only struggle was the world building. I haven't read the first book in the series yet (Heart of the Wolf), which may have contained some explanations of the world that I had to catch up on. I ended up reading some sections over to understand more or looked up Norse words to make sure I was inferring correctly.

Heart of the Panther completely stole my heart. Michelle Love has crafted a captivating Viking romantasy that blends Norse mythology, romance, magic, and adventure into a story I didn't want to put down. From the very first chapter, I was drawn into Elara's world, and I found myself completely invested in her journey.
Elara was such a wonderful heroine. She's compassionate, resilient, and easy to root for as she learns to embrace the destiny she's been trying to ignore. I loved watching her confidence grow, and her strength never overshadowed the kindness that made her so lovable.
The romance was everything I hoped it would be. The enemies-to-lovers tension was fantastic, and the chemistry between Elara and her Viking warrior only grew stronger with every chapter. Elara was such a wonderful heroine. She's compassionate, resilient, and easy to root for as she learns to embrace the destiny she's been trying to ignore. I loved watching her confidence grow, and her strength never overshadowed the kindness that made her so lovable.
The romance was everything I hoped it would be. The enemies-to-lovers tension was fantastic, and the chemistry between Elara and her Viking warrior only grew stronger with every chapter. "Heart of the Panther" is the second book in the Cold Heart series and follows Njall (son of Leif and Brielle from book 1) and Elara, the daughter of an English farmer.
I was lucky enough to get to alpha read this manuscript and then ARC read it again after it went through edits. From page one, I was pulled into Njall and Elara's world.
Where "Heart of the Wolf" was a quieter story of two people fated by the gods to be together but choosing each other day in and day out, "Heart of the Panther" is much grittier, more action-packed, and definitely a lot angstier than book 1. Elara and Njall have to work hard for their HEA!
Michelle does an excellent job melding the love story between our MCs with a thrilling tale of warmongering gods, sinister voices, and Nordic magic.
The banter between all the characters is fantastic, and I loved watching Elara grow into a confident, strong woman willing to fight for her found family. As an MMC, Njall is is nothing short of swoonworthy. Very much a big, bad Viking warrior on the outside, but utterly soft for Elara.
If you love Vikings, romance, found family, magic, a "farmer girl to bad ass" FMC, and big, hulking warriors, then "Heart of the Panther" should absolutely be on your TBR.

A Viking/Norse mythology romance about Elara, a young woman living in old England who is taken by Njall after a raid on her village. She agrees to leave with him to save her father, but what starts as fear and resentment turns into something much bigger when Elara discovers her connection to Freya, her powers, and a fate she’s didn’t want.
Elara has had a rough time. She’s grieving her mother and brother, trying to protect the only family she has left, and she’s also spent most of her life not fully understanding the voices, dreams and power inside her.

*Heart of the Panther* was such an enjoyable and immersive Viking romantasy. From the very beginning, I was drawn into Elara's mysterious visions, the whispers that haunted her, and the sense that something much bigger was unfolding. The storyline was intense, engaging, and kept me invested throughout.
I really loved how Jarl and Elara's relationship developed. Their first meeting was dramatic and unforgettable, and I enjoyed watching their dynamic evolve from captor and captive into something much deeper. Even though Elara became his war prize, it was impossible to miss how completely Jarl fell for her. He was fierce and intimidating to everyone else, yet so soft and protective when it came to Elara. That contrast made their romance even more compelling.
The chemistry between them was beautifully written, and I especially loved the "touch her and die" energy throughout the story. The addition of the shadow panther and Norse mythology gave the book a unique atmosphere that made it stand out from other fantasy romances.

I really enjoyed this novel and anything Norse mythology will get me hooked! It can be read as a standalone (which I have done ) however it is clear characters from the first book are in this so first one definitely worth a read but doesn’t take away from the story or leave you feeling confused.
I thought it was quite fast paced and gripping despite the main focus being on the romance. I really liked how fast these two fell and seeing the Dual POV of it and how conflicted they both were with their developing feelings.
I really liked the FMC and how soft but strong she was. I really liked the description of her powers and how she really came into her own at the end. I loved the found family/parents aspect for her and my heart was ready to burst with how sweet that was.

This is a Viking romance that reminded me a lot of the tv show Vikings, which I liked a lot!
The story is full of Norse mythology, and even if you don’t know much about it, the author explains this well enough for any reader to enjoy the story.
Both characters are great.
Elara, while born and raised in old England, has been chosen by the Norse goddess Freiya to share some of her gifts.
Elara has never understood what her “dreams” or “the voices” meant, and has lived a pretty recluded life to protect herself from judgement.
Elara has lost both her older brother and her mother, and grief currently marks her days.
When her village is attacked by Norse warriors, she sacrifices herself to save her father, willingly leaving with warrior NJall.
NJall is the perfect protector. He is a fierce warrior, who cares deeply for his family and his village.
Together they’ll discover Elara’s gifts true power, but they better do it quick as a God war is coming!
The story was well written and really engaging.
NJall’s way of talking to Elara had me giggling and blushing throughout, I really did love him.

This was such a gripping, atmospheric read perfect for anyone who loves Viking romantasy rich with magic, danger, and slow burn romance. Elara is a wonderfully relatable protagonist grieving, quiet, and burdened by dreams and voices she’s spent years trying to ignore. One of the things that I adored about this novel was the romance itself. First off I loved the Norse mythology in this book and how well it was weaved into the story seamlessly. I absolutely adored Freya's blessing to Elara with her powers and the panther, which was part protector and companion, and they bond they had. I also loved how it knew that Njall was more than capable of protecting Elara in her stead.
I genuinely loved the style of writing from Michelle Love and I think that she can spin a story where you are gripped from the get go and stay hooked through out the novel.
The only thing I didn't overly like is how it said that it was enemies to lovers, yet I found it more to be an insta love (especially on Njall's end). I found that there wasn't enough tension and that the 'hating' and 'enemy' trope ended far too soon. I would have preferred that it was drawn out a bit longer. In saying that I did really like the bond that Njall and Elara had for eachother.

Heart of the Panther follows a young woman whose life is changed when the goddess Freya gifts her unexpected power, purpose, and the path that leads her to her fated mate.

I absolutely loved this story. Relate was such a fierce FMC, willing to do whatever she had to save her village and her father. And Njall, it didn’t take him long at all to fall for her. Wanting her as payment to leave things alone. These two started off as enemies, but it didn’t take long before they became lovers. She tried to hate him, make things difficult for him. But it didn’t work out very well. These two were spicy, and sweet, two very strong characters in this story.
The world building was phenomenal. It was written with a precision that really envelops you and makes you feel like you’re right there in the midst of everything. I fell love with the description of everything and everyone. This was an excellent read and I’m thankful to the author for allowing me to read this as an ARC.

Elara is dealing with grief when she is taken by Njall from her English village to his Viking one. She has magic that they need. I liked Elara. She is a survivor and would do anything for her loved ones. She is also feisty. Even when she is at her darkest, she still did not give up. I also like Njall. His devotion was top tier. I always really enjoy when he falls first and harder. The story was fast-paced which I liked. However, I do think some parts of the book needed a bit more details as it seemed to skip over time passing. For example, I would have appreciated seeing Njall spend more time with Elara outside of his home or to have seen more of what happened when Elara stayed with his mother. Overall though, I really enjoyed this book.

As a Swede, this book was such a fun read! And Michelle, your writing is incredible. 🖤
This Viking romantasy is written in dual POV and third person, which adds so much depth to the story. I read it as a standalone and was completely captivated by the Viking details. The language, the relationships, and the way everything is described felt immersive and authentic.
And the yearning? The groveling? The spice? Perfection. 😮💨✨
Now I kind of want a Viking of my own… but then again, maybe I already have one since my man is Swedish too.

A heartwarming love story! I enjoyed how this sequel was a continuation of the next generation. The way in which the lore from the first book was continued was interesting. One thing that confused me was the magic regarding Elara. It was confusing where she would be at times. Physical movement was unclear making battle scenes vague. The network of families and reintroduction of characters was nice. It felt like it gave a continued epilogue to the first book. Overall, there was nice closure at the end. A great romance!

Absolutely loved this book, the mix of norse mythology and the story interwoven with it kept me hooked til the end. Plenty of ups and downs that nearly had me wanting to climb into the book and shake the characters but I thoroughly enjoyed it!

You wait a little while for the spice in this one, which is a little different than Heart of the Wolf. This book is actually very different then the other standalone in the series, but it left me laughing and a sobbing mess at the end (iykyk).
A darker viking romance. If you read Heart of the Wolf, you should know that going in. The MMC is no less swoon worthy though.

I do appreciate the authors story of grief of losing ones mother and i do appreciate her author's note on the subject.
Story of a viking alpha dude and a daughter. In order to save her father and her village agrees to join a viking furing a raid.
Did not need to read the others in this series to understand the plot. Pleasant hea for everyone (even the father)
Do take issue with the MMC riping her clothes. Lol what is she supposed to wear?

This was wonderful to read, an enemies to lovers between a Viking and a stolen English woman.
The way Njáll was in denial of the pull towards Elara was something else! But seeing him quickly understand and fall at her feet was beautiful 💅🏽
Elara was full of grief and barely living, seeing how she blossomed and came into her own with the support of Njáll as well as the others around her - was well done, glad to see a FMC that turned out ready to stand up and protect what she loved.
