The Sinner Sisterhood #3

The Sinner and the Priest

Rate this book
A week ago, I was an exorcist for the Vatican. My vows were ironclad. Now...

I confess to Almighty God, and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned in my thoughts… especially in thoughts involving my Roman collar, a certain red-headed Sinner’s wrists, and the desk in my church’s oratory.

I spent years in prison trying to starve the violence and hunger in my cursed blood. Instead, I found it purring when the sisterhood’s deadliest seductress entered my confessional and whispered her litany of filth.

I have lied to my superiors. I have sworn to dismantle this heretical organization, while secretly burning every bridge back to Rome to keep her safe.

I am the shepherd who was too busy counting freckles on her bare shoulder to hear the screaming of my flock.

Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault... I told Mercy I was not her prophesied, fated Saint. But when her sister dared to threaten her life…

I forgot that I am Father Francisco Angelotti, the former mafia enforcer, whose vows are a muzzle to keep the world safe from his teeth. I forgot that I should have been hunting the Third Horseman, Famine, and his demons in my flock’s garden.

And I forgot that I was the wolf who taught them how to eat.

If you enjoy stories about irreverent bad girls corrupting the good boys, heartbreaking slow burn smut with all the feels, complex characters with tragic backstories, compelling plot, hilarious banter, suspense, and action, then this is for you.

For fans of Buffy, Supernatural, Constantine, and K-pop Demon Hunters, but for adults.

I want to say first of all: I enjoy the author and this is just my opinion and what I felt.
Rounded up to 3 stars mostly for the last 30%, where the story moved and was rather interesting and for the chemistry.
I didn’t dislike the reading, I didn’t, the plot is still fine, but I felt disconnected from the story for a big portion of it, it felt kind of all over the place, almost nothing happened for 70% of the book and what did happen was… I mean, not unenjoyable, but shouldn’t there have been some kind of tension about the impending apocalypse and the destruction of the sisterhood? I didn’t feel it. Everyone’s behavior felt out of place and when the guys were locked in for suspected betrayal, I thought “good, some stakes”, instead the interrogations were… a bit amusing here and there, but considering the situation the characters were in and these women are supposed to be super amazing assassins, it was ridiculous, what was even the point?
What worked well was the sexual tension and chemistry between the mcs and the fact that near the end stuff progressed and prepared for the next part.
I'm also giving it leniency since this is not the whole book, it was split in 2 to avoid moving the release date and this is the first part, it’s understandable that there’s not a complete arc, so I’ll come back to finalize the rating when part 2 comes out.

Cliffhanger: Yes

Holy moly this was better than I expected. It's been 2 years since the last book in this series was published and you can tell Lana's writing is just getting better and better with every book. The depth that was added to both of the main characters was so unexpected. Particularly where Mercy is concerned and we still don't have her full backstory. She became so much more than the surface level character she easily could have been.

The continuation of the plot was good (also gross because flies and rot) but I know it will ramp up in pqrt 2 of this story. This may be the world's hottest slow burn as far as spice goes. Goodness! Beware it does feel like part of the story is missing because it is. I think Lana did the best she could finding a place to cut part 1 and 2 but you can just tell this is meant to be 1 book. As a reader I felt like book 1 needed fleshed out more and I didn't connect as well with book 2 because the whole wild west theme felt a little silly. But this one gave me exactly what I needed! I will be on the lookout for part 2!

Review after part 1:
Yet again, Lana has not disappointed!

If you haven’t read the first 2 books in the series, go back and do it now, or you’ll be quite a bit lost, as this is not a standalone series, even if each book focuses on a different couple.

I was introduced to the Sinners as soon as Lana started writing them, and I waited a LONG time for this one. Honestly, I didn’t even remember much of what was going on, but as soon as I got into reading The Sinner and The Priest, I remembered why I love this series so much.

Lana is great at writing a well paced story, and this one starts off right where the previous book ended, with famine starting.

I do think you should re-read the previous one, or at least the end of it, if you, like me, have been waiting for this book since the previous one was released. If you don’t – like I didn’t – you may need a couple of chapters to get situated into the Sinner world again.

*Now, on to the story itself:*
Personally, I wish she focused more on the famine aspect of the story, or was more consistent with the “tastes like ash” vs “tastes like nothing” vs “tastes like trash” and so on, but that is where my complaints end.

Mercy is a sexy badass, and Cisco is oh so amazing at suppressing his needs, which makes him irresistible (I’m sure Mercy agrees). Their chemistry is off the charts, and they drive each other – and me – up the wall with all of their sexual tension.

I am sad we still don’t have part 2, but so far I love the slow burn, how the story is unfolding with giving us little hints here and there, but never really showing us what is happening before it’s time.

As part one goes, I am obsessed with this couple, and with the mystery that is unfolding. I want to know what Cisco’s curse is! And I want to find out why – or even if – “they” are after him. (don’t want to give spoilers, but if you’ve read it, you also have this buzzing in your ear, right?!)

I hope part two answers my questions and gives me a scorching burn for this slow burn of theirs!

PART ONE
I am a priest sworn to celibacy, yet my cock is hard enough to break stone. I am the Vatican's finest exorcist, yet the devil is curled up, purring beneath my ribs. I'm supposed to be praying for Mercy's soul, but all I can think about is the taste of her skin, the slick, intoxicating heat of her mouth.

5 stars

Ever since I read the first book in this series, I knew Cisco and Mercy's story was going to blow my freaking mind and my panties off, and boy did the first half deliver! This book takes off right where Leila and Zeke's story left off. Cisco has been a pretty mysterious character so far; his past was dark and heartbreaking and helped form him into the stoic man we see today. I've honestly loved Mercy's character from the first book; she's not perfect, but I love her honesty and wild spirit.

These two have been circling each other for a while, and we FINALLY get to see the tension between them snap! Even before anything happens between them my kindle was on fire with the forbidden lust and raw attraction between them. Just brace yourselves for the sexual eruption when Cisco and Mercy finally succumb to their fate🥵 Part One leaves off on a mild cliffy after a big revelation and reconciliation between Cisco and Mercy, and I cannot wait for the rest of their story!🖤

Tropes: forbidden taboo romance, hate-to-love-you, hero is an ex-mafioso turned priest with a dark secret, heroine is a badass outcast with a body made for sin, enemies-to-allies-to-lovers, hurt/comfort, forced proximity, he falls first and hard, mutual unwanted attraction, dirty talking priest🥵, off-the-charts sexual tension, slow burn with a worthy payoff, self-punishment, mild cliffhanger, STEAMY🔥🔥

Warning on this Cliffhanger begging for Part 2

I am reading this as an ARC read for my honest review. Recommend reading the last two books of this series before this one. It’s semi important as characters remain the same but also important to understand the over arching them: the apocalypse approaches and the Horseman are ever present. I read part one ending on a cliffhanger. Be warned.

Mercy is our lead female character. Strong woman, lead warrior of the Sinners and has to find the truth of the Saints and their purpose, weed through a prophecy…that thought led to a spoiler so keeping that to myself. Point is: she’s a hot head and don’t care. The Sinners need her strength.

Cisco. The priest. A Saint. And he has something of a secret. Now obviously he has vows. And we are trying to understand the man before those vows and what that means.

Now these two together……..well this is only part one that I’m reading as an ARC. A dynamic duo who complement each other’s personalities. I’m here for it. Love this. My favorite two so far. There are so many things to explore, to understand as we get into part 2. We have additional characters and dynamics that need explaining! The addition to the story is a mystery.

Hi! I will definitely add this to my re-read list for future reading. It was so good! If you like a sultry forbidden romance with a priest. Slow burn spicy that does not disappoint.

Read this!

*I received an e-ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

The Sinner and the Priest is the 3rd book in the Sinner Sisterhood series. It has been a few years since book 2 came out, but the story picks up right where the Sinner and the Gunslinger left off.

This story follows Mercy, the leader of the Sinner Sisterhood, and Cisco, the Priest apart from team Saint. While still having to work together as a new Four Horseman of the Apocalypse shows itself from the prophecy, Mercy and Cisco also have to battle their attraction to each other as well. Both have wounds from the past that make them believe they are both broken, but as part one progresses we get to see that they are starting to realize that they can heal those wounds together. Part 1 is very much a slow burn with a bit of payoff by the end…however more is definitely coming in Part 2.

Overall this was another spicy, fun filled, crazy installment for the Sinner Sisterhood series. Even though the book was split into two parts, part 1 is a complete story in and of itself. There were some pacing questions on my end and some questions left unanswered/not circled back too, however I am assuming that they will be answered in part 2. I can’t wait to for Mercy and Cisco’s conclusion!

4.5 stars!
Part one of this book was awesome! The angst and yearning were top notch, I love how we got to know the characters and some of their background. It only makes me curious to know more about their backgrounds because we for sure don't know everything about Cisco's pre-priest life. It was interesting at the beginning how he talks about himself and Dom's struggles with their faith having found out about Mary's gospel and the lies spread by the church. I low key want to know what the actual real church would think about this book haha. The spicy scenes in this book were so so good. I mean the bit with the collar? I never thought I would actually find that hot but here we are. In the not so hot but still great category falls the new girls that survived the massacre in Spain and the way Mercy and Cisco cared for them. The way they instantly did everything they could to make the girls feel safe and cared for. It was very sweet and I find myself wondering if these girls will be put through training or if they will find a different role in the sisterhood. Bring on part 2 ASAP.

I’d definitely recommend reading the previous books before starting this one, as I hadn’t and felt quite confused in the beginning. It took me some time to fully get into the story, but once I did, I really enjoyed it. I especially liked the protagonists and the urban fantasy setting, which feels very different from Lana’s Fae series that I absolutely love.

Even though this book has a different atmosphere, it still delivers an intriguing plot and great tension throughout. Since this is only the first part of the story, I feel like there are still many unanswered questions, but the small cliffhanger at the end definitely made me curious to continue with the second part.

Overall, despite feeling a little lost at first, I ended up really enjoying the book. And if you already loved the previous books in the series, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one too.

This is the third book in the series, and it is best if you read the other two first. The overall arc of the story continues as Famine, the 3rd horseman, makes an entrance. This is Mercy and Cisco's story, and with so much happening, it is being told in two parts. I enjoyed the dialogue between Mercy and Cisco as they fight their attraction to each other. Cisco wants to keep his vowels, but this priest has some very dirty thoughts about this sinner. Mercy has her own internal dialogue about her worth and her influence on men, but her attraction to this Saint can not be denied. With new relics found and more of the prophecy revealed, I can't wait to read the next part of Mercy and Cisco's story.

Beautiful

This is one of those times where I absolutely want an author to take the time to make sure the story is perfect, but OMG I want to know what happens next.
This is the third in the series and all of these characters are equally tugging on my heart, and bringing a grin to my face.
Mercy is the leader of these BadA assassins and is definitely a lot of fun as well. Cisco has a lot of demons in his past and I just couldn’t not like him.
Prophecy has been revealed, and more battles are coming. It seems the Sinners and the Saints are defending from multiple sides, and Mercy and Cisco are trying to find their parts and how they work together.
Can’t wait for the next one.

I received an ARC of part 1 generously given by the author.

This is a huge story and worth the wait and the length. There’s so much more to Mercy and Cisco - I was gripped with the slow burn and constant guessing what was being hidden by each of the characters.

Mercy is at first glance the easiest of the Sinner Sisterhood to understand and dismiss, and previously was a bit of a comedy figure. I think now, in a longer book, we get to see more depth and find out more of her reasons. And then there is Cisco, ex-Mafioso, priest and exorcist, who could just be the sexy stereotype but he also has more to his story, and we only get half of it so far!

I really enjoyed part 1 and can’t wait for part 2, then I’ll read the whole book together!

I love me a good dirty priest book! Thank you Lana for this treat of a book. If you are offended by religious iconography or the absolute desecration of a priest... then you might want to skip this book. If you're here for all the *things* then this one's for you. This book was given to me as an advance copy, I loved it so much that I bought a copy. The Sinner and the Priest was fast paced and the story telling was amazing. I really enjoy the good vs evil trope and this read brought in the right amount of spice to keep it moving. There were no dull parts and I couldn't put this one down. Can't wait for book 4 in this series!

Was waiting for this and most excited for their book finally but it really was a mess I'm sorry. The ending was better but predictable and nothing much happened tbh this book should haven't been two parts at all...it was beyond frustrating them and their behavior. I hope part 2 is more like previous book that I loved and rated 4 stars because 😬 I've been waiting for Mercy and Cisco and this book was a major letdown and we barely actually got them together and what happened to him at end really upset me too wtf there was no reason for that.

This story was exactly what I needed. The author pulls us right back into a world where sinners and team saint are trying to stop the apocalypse. I’ve loved Mercy from the start. She is unapologetic about who she is. She loves what she loves but there is also a vulnerability to her. Cisco is such a stoic man and ai loved reading about him grappling with how he feels. The twists and turns had me gasping and looking for any way to make some of the revelations untrue. The author has once again given us a well written story and left us eager for more.

I voluntarily read an ARC for this book. The pace is definitely different to the other sinners books, you get to know Mercy and Cisco in an environment that prepares you for their next adventure, not dropped right into the action. The whole internal battle of good vs bad is well explored and helps you to understand why Cisco and Mercy act like they do towards each other. I can’t wait for part 2!

Worth the Wait

The Sinner and the Priest: Part One is book 3 of Lana Pecherczyk's The Sinner Sisterhood series. It took a lot longer than normal for this book to be released but it was worth the wait. If you love edge of your seat action this series is for you. I can't wait for the next book.

I have read many books from this author but I haven't read any previous Sinner Sisterhood books she's written. This was my first in the series, and I liked it. I'll need to go back and read the others!

I wasn't sure what to expect, and it was definitely an intriguing one! It did take me a few chapters to get into, but I quickly became invested in the story and the characters. Now I just need part 2!
