Kai may have embraced his new monstrous nature and saved his city from the incursion, but he's lost his home. Now, with only a single cultivator as an ally, he ventures into new the City State of Krysal. Power, culture, and economics mix in an uneasy balance with unexpected consequences. The cities claim to offer anyone the chance to buy their way to glory and prestige, but their complex system of advancement hides a dark secret. What Kai discovers about it will shake him... and how he reacts will shake the foundations of the nation.
Depthless Hunger's setting blends inspiration from many sources. Cultivation exists, drawing off Chinese wuxia and xianxia, but qi flows alongside chakra, drawing off Indian sources, as well as western systems. All are combined in a single system that is gradually revealed over the course of the story.

While on the surface, it seems to be a typical progression fantasy, this series has other plot lines that help to make the underlying power fantasy more interesting and palatable. I can’t wait to uncover more of this mysterious realm
And I should not have. DNF 17%. He’s fighting a 3 on 1 battle but because they are humans. He refuses to use his monster power to the point he receives a lethal blow and only survives because the monster power kicks in automatically so he doesn’t die… like wtf. Just kill this idiot and move on with the female sidekick who is a way more interesting character. I have no respect for this wishy washy MC, he litteraly hid in a bush instead of using his abilities.
I enjoyed this as much as the first. Well paced, super-interesting magic system, and lots of conflict. Having said that, I get the feeling it'll merge into the genre soon, and I'll forget most of the details.
Note to future self: Kai is a cultivator/monster magic hybrid that can eat and combine monster powers, but they must be balanced by his human cultivation power.
Good amount of progression, plenty of setup for the next part of the story, great fights and characters. Things got a little too horny a number of times, I think the balance was a bit better earlier on in the series. Overall a great read and I’m looking forward to the next kindle release!
