Absolutely incredible followup to Where my Demon's Hide. Picks up right where book 1 left off. Filled with plot twists, incredible story line, and amazing side characters that fully contribute to the story and add so much depth. This book broke my heart and put it back together in the best way. I laughed, cried, screamed, giggled and about everything in between. There was never a dull moment and I enjoyed being thoroughly wrecked throughout. Story was well written, paced really well, and I fell in love with the side characters, both new and those from the previous book. You will not be dissapointed.

Warning: This book somehow totally stole the crown from its predecessor. 👑

If you’re worried the second book might suffer from the dreaded “sequel slump” and not live up to the first, fear not! Book two hits all the right notes AND throws in some jaw-dropping twists that left me too stunned to speak (seriously, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor because YOWZA). 🫨🔥

Book two knows the assignment. It delivers action, suspense, spice, romance, humor, and emotional damage in the best way. If you loved the pace of the first book, buckle up and hold on tight because you’re off to the races. 🏃🏻‍♀️

I have never been so captivated in my entire life! If you thing the first book was good, then hold onto your dragons scales because this one will take you for the ultimate wild ride!! Kayla knows exactly how to rip your soul apart with her words and then stitch them back together with the upmost LOVE and devotion she pours into her books. It will have you gripping the edge of your seat, crying and laughing along with Sadie, Jonas and everyone else. I only wish I could give a rating far greater than just 5 stars. It is one book you will devour with everything you have and will not regret picking up. Kayla is the ultimate QUEEN of fantasy who knows exactly what her readers need. My absolute favorite!

First things first this book is 6/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. Got this book early as an ARC read. Now let’s get into the details.

Kayla’s writing is sooo intoxicating. You will fly through this book in just one, or two setting just because you will not be able to put it down. Kayla makes sure that every little piece of information fed to you through multiple characters perspectives are all very different so never once are you left confused. Every single detail within her writing has been written with such intention that you know every part of each character and their stories.

You will feel every single emotion while reading. Want to throw the book in anger and frustration, want to weep with other characters. You will be on the edge of your seat cheering on all characters (but a few you’ll be waiting for their demise).

Trauma is not something that you just “get over”, and Kayla beautifully and poetically writes to show that trauma ties deep within your soul. Healing is possible, but the scars will forever be there.

Book 2 in this series was phenomenal and I have thought about this book multiple times a day since finishing it and can’t wait for book 3.

I was so happy to get my hands on an advanced reader copy of WHERE EMBERS BURN. I was already so deeply enthralled and connected with the magical world and characters from the first book. This book did not disappoint! A twisting and turning chaotic adventure; exciting, intriguing and heart wrenching at times. A magical, volatile story (or many stories) of deception and evil, redemption, loyalty and LOVE. You will discover new and old beloved characters and some hated ones finding and remembering their power through, and in spite of, their pain. Kayla is a phenomenal story teller. She made me audibly gasp, ugly cry and belly laugh all in one book, which I read in one day. Ready to reread this series when I get my hard copy, while I anxiously await Keenan to make good on his promise: “You underestimate the vile things I am willing to do for her, Caldric” in Kayla’s next installment in this series.

Kaykay.
My love, one of my favorite indie authors. A Light of my universe! How fricken dare you! The lion, the witch, and the audacity!!! How dare you! You damn turnip! Not only did you make me lose sleep (you made bestie lose sleep when she was reading and I had to deal with the after effects)
But ahhh what is that greatness! I restarted my antidepressants….. hahaha for what. I feel like it just hit my soul even harder because I felt it. 😳🥺😱😒 give me the third!!!!! And I’ll stop sending you videos and photos that make us both uncomfortable.

That ending. I’m so mad. I think imma block you… fricking pumpkin squash

It was incredible!! 600 pages was nothing! I’ll easily read 1000 if that’s what you will gift us next. (I’ll take the novellas too boo)

I absolutely LOVED this book! It was just as good as the first book and had me completely captivated from beginning to end. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs and getting the chance to know each of the characters. There are so many different characters and storylines to explore, and I loved seeing how everything continues to unfold.
I’m already SO excited for the next book! There is still so much left to discover in this world, and I cannot wait to see where the story takes us next.

6 stars 🌟. Kayla has done it again with this beautiful sequel! Keenan and Sadie are my favorite couple EVER. This series is not like any other fantasy book i have read..and cannot compare to any other book I have read. There wasnt a time while reading this book that I wasnt laughing, crying, shocked, or on the edge of my seat. I CANNOT WAIT FOR BOOK 3! THANK YOU SO MUCH KAYLA FOR LETTING ME READ THIS AS AN ARC!! ❤️

I absolutely loved this book! I don’t remember the last time I was so engrossed in a story, I stayed up past midnight on a work night. I loved getting to see Sadie and the general again, but then also meet so many new characters! As much as I loved book one, this one was just better! I cannot wait to read the next installment.
