Haylee was raped in high school. When she identified the rapist to the authorities, it was dismissed for no evidence. She had to live in fear until she graduated high school. Her parents have not been able to deal with what happened to her and have shut her out of their lives. She goes to college and meets Stacey. Stacey and her family become her family. She meets Zander, Stacey’s older brother, and immediately falls for him. She has never dated and he only experience she's had with a man was her rape. Zander feels the same for Haylee but she keeps pushing him away. One thing leads to another and Haylee decides she will not let the rape control her life anymore. Will Haylee allow herself to love Zander freely? Will Zander take those demons out of her head and show her what love is?
Janet A. Mota is 37 years old and lives in Jacksonville, FL with her husband and two children. She was born and raised in Miami, FL but both of her parents are from Portugal. She was raised like her parents were raised and her first language was Portuguese. She didn’t know English when she started school. Janet has three college degrees and is always striving to make more of herself. Janet works in Bankruptcy Law during the day and writes at night. She is also an editor, a beta reader and a reviewer. Janet has published two books, Unexpected Surprises and Shattered. Her third book, Undeniable, is scheduled to release on August 14, 2015. Undeniable is Book 1 in the Coming Home Series. This is the first series that Janet will be publishing.
Haylee Masters is a bright and studious teen. Her world is shattered when the High School quarterback rapes her in a stairwell one day after school. A report of the incident to the authorities renders nothing in the way of punishment and she is forced to continue her studies with him roaming the halls. Haylee’s parents even seem to disbelieve the reports. Her only escape seems to come when she leaves for college and meets Stacey who quickly becomes her best friend.
Through her young adult life, Haylee keeps everything to herself, not even sharing her secret with Stacey. She doesn’t date or seem remotely interested in men, the result of enduring years of fear her attacker will strike again. She turns all her focus to her studies and later her work. Stacey can sense her friend needs support and encourages her to spend Thanksgiving with her family. The Blaine’s are more than willing to open their home to Haylee and as time goes on they become the family she never had. What she didn’t count on was Zander, Stacey’s brother, becoming the man who just might finally save her from her nightmare.
A very light read, a story of a young woman overcoming trauma and finally learning to love and be loved. The affection and patience that Zander shows her is truly sweet and touching. Sensing something would shake up the new life Haylee was starting to build after college, as a reader I was drawn in to find out just what becomes of her rapist. Zander doesn’t disappoint in the role of her knight in shining armor and the happily ever after ending was indeed perfect.
I would recommend this read to anyone looking for a sweet story of overcoming our past and looking towards the future.
Another beautiful read by Ms. Mota! Rape is never an easy subject to tackle, but the sensitivity to the subject really shone through. Zander was the most amazing, sweetest, loving man any woman could ask for. I loved how strong and resilient Haylee turned out to be, especially after having to deal with so much, she wasn't a whiner, she was strong, and with Zander by her side this story just makes you want to hug your Kindle when you are finished!!!! I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a powerful story of triumph over tragedy and an super sweet HEA ❤️
After being raped in high school and no one believing her, Haylee runs away from Fort Lauderdale after spending the rest of the her senior year haunted by her attacker. While in college, she meets her room mate Stacey and the two immediately hit it off. After learning that Haylee's parents; who have been extremely distant since her attack; are not going to be around for Thanksgiving, Stacey invites Haylee home with her family. Stacey's family immediately welcomes Haylee and in turn finds a new family in them, something she hadn't had for a long time. Things are different for Haylee and Zander; Stacey's older brother though and throughout the years their feelings grow with Haylee never accepting his or any other guys advances after what she experienced. Finally, Haylee accepts an invitation for a date with Zander and after a scary run in with her attacker from years ago their relationship takes on a very serious level quickly. Can Haylee overcome all that holds her back? Can Zander break down her walls?
This is the second book I have read by Janet and while I have a hard time connecting to the writing style in this book, the characters immediately swept me up in their storm. You feel for Haylee and all she experiences, you want to be there for her since no one else ever was. Zander is just a perfect sweetheart. I was so happy to see the way he treated Haylee and I found myself falling for him more and more by the minute. There were a few editing errors but in general it was put together well. I would recommend this book to anyone who can handle a little tough content in their stories.
This author is not afraid to tackle tough issues in her books. That said, she handles it beautifully. The violence is not sensationalized but it is not skimmed over either. The characters in Shattered felt very real to me. It's inspiring to read how Haylee deals with her situation, and Zander is nothing short of a modern day hero.
Haylee is so shattered after she was brutally raped and no one believes that happened to her. Zander's love and patience brought her out of her shell and she finally got the happily ever after she deserved. It was not an easy read with all her fears but Zander was wonderful with her. He is so sweet.
Unfortunately, thing s like this happen everyday. Rape. Nobody asks for it to happen, but in the end the victim suffers from fear. When Haylee found the love of her life she tries her hardest to move past the fears. Falling in love with her best friends brother completed her life. First comes friendships, then comes engagement, then comes marriage and then comes the baby in the baby carriage. If you love romance end suspense this is just the book for you to read.
Wow. I just read this book in one two hour sitting. The first chapter sucks you in and continues to do so until the ever end.
Haylee Masters was just a high school student when tragedy hits her. Afterwards no one believes her and she is face with handling it all on her own. After starting college, Haylee meets Sarah and her family. She then finds what she has been missing since that horrible day in high school...love.
As this was my first read by Janet Mota, I can't wait to read more.
A book full of emotions, absolutely to read.. A tragic event has shaken Haylee's life changing her forever and nobody believes her neither the police, nor her friends, much less her parents.. One of Satcy's brothers falls in love with her and every time he tries to move forward, she raises an insurmountable wall because the pain of the past comes back.. After a long time Haylee gives in and they start dating, finally she opens up and tells her past to Zander and together they try to move on.. Will they succeed??

REVIEW New to me author.
We have Haylee who has so much damage from something that happened to her when she was still in high school. No one believed her, no one stood up for her, not even her parents. While in college, she and her roommate Stacy become best friends but Haylee still has never told her secret. Haylee is invited to Stacy’s family’s home for the holidays. Stacy has 2 brothers and Zander is immediately smitten with Haylee. Nothing happens between these two and as the years pass his love for Haylee just blossoms even more. Finally, Haylee agrees to a date with Zander.
The night of their very first date Haylee’s past runs into her literally. Now the time has come that she opens up to Zander about what happened to her all those years ago. She feels so damaged inside but has finally told the family she loves at least two of them what truly happened to her.
Zander is determined to be there for Haylee but can he get her through this dark time? Can Zander save her from herself and her past?
Can she finally let go of the nightmares that have haunted her for so long?
This book drawls’ you in and does not let go. Fantastic story of love can conquer all even things that leave you scarred and damaged.
This is an emotional read that will leave you in awe. Haylee was raped her senior year and nobody believed her. She goes to college and becomes friends with Lisa. Zander, Lisa's brother, has been attracted to Haylee since he met her and the same for her when she first met him. Every time he asks her out she tells him no. Finally she decides that she will not let the rape continue to control her life. Then her rapist comes back to attack her again. Why did nobody believe her in high school? How does she take back control of her life? What happens when her rapist comes back for another go? Will Haylee and Zander come together?
~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★✰✰ Review~~~~~~~~~~
This book has been a great disappointment for this reader. Interesting story line and beautiful characters but the writing style lacks fluid motion. It is jerky like driving down a road with thousands of potholes. The bumpy nature of reading the sentences is frustrating and prevents one from stepping into the character's world and feeling the emotions. The poor editing, formatting and misspelled words can be tolerated but the writing style was too irritating and destroyed all enjoyment of reading.
"Shattered" by Janet A. Mota is a gut wrenching read about Haylee, a teen that was raped by the high school star football player. The police and her parents didn't believe it happened and she was treated as an outcast by everyone her senior year because they couldn't find any evidence. Eric stole her v-card and taunted her throughout her last year at school. After that she went off to college and her parents basically disowned her.... they rejected her at every turn as if she were unworthy. At college her roommate Stacey became her best friend and Stacey's family welcomed her in as their own. Zander, Stacey's oldest brother was interested in Haylee from day one but she rejected him everytime. Determined to not give up on her, would he ever get a chance with the girl of his dreams? Haylee wanted to so much to say yes to Zander, but the rape was still fresh in her mind and she struggled every day to put it past her, how could anyone ever want her after that?
This is an incredible story of two people and the patience and understanding that it takes to build a relationship. "Shattered" is a beautiful happy ever after story that I highly recommend for its sweetness through adversity.
OMGoodness this book has it all...love, hate, heartache, and anger. You will not be able to put it down. The characters have such a realism to them and you can feel every emotion they go through.
Haley was raped in high school by the star quarterback Erik. No one believes her not even her parents.
Haley is determined to move on with her life at college. She meets Stacy. They become best friends and Stacy's family becomes Haley's family.
Zander is Stacy's brother and falls head over heals in love with Haley.
But there is one problem. Haley can't put the past behind...can Zander help her heal?
Janet has once again written a beautiful story. Can't wait to see what she writes next.
Wow another beautiful book by this author i loved all the characters in this story it touched a really serious subject and the author dealt with this hard hitting subject lovely well done cant wait to read more from this author
