The author, Lawrence Novak (or Father Lawrence Novak), is a priest of the Society of St. Pius X. I have watched his homilies and lectures from SSPX Singapore.
I admire how simple and clear his words are. It is very evident in this book. But I have to take one star off for two reasons.
The book overall is nice. But he explicitly intends to present things categorically, rather than chronologically. Perhaps it's just me, but I sometimes find it confusing to follow things through when the narrative tends to jump from one timeline to another and back again.
Another reason is that, I feel Father Novak has more to share and that the book was cut short. I understand that he is a busy priest, especially currently, he is preparing to be transferred from Singapore back to the US next month. I think if he had given more time for himself to refine the book, he can expound more on their mother's story.
