4.5 - "Everything's a gamble... You just have to decide if it's worth the risk." Stars!
I have been waiting impatiently for Nicole Michaels to write Draw Me Close ever since the somewhat tense meeting between Lindsey and Derek in the latter stages of the last book in the series, this is a pair with a past, and not a very happy one at that, and I couldn’t wait to see what story the author gave them.
There was a risk with this one that Lindsey would come over as a little too bitter and twisted due to the nature of her and Derek’s separation, especially when she finds out the true and full reasoning’s for it. If you add to that the ex-issues and parental drama, and the author pretty much dished up every trope that I massively struggle with, especially if it is milked to death. But Nicole managed to give them all the right amount of balance in that they were all very relevant to Lindsey and Derek’s story, but they didn’t massively detract from the main theme, which is their reconnection after eight years apart.
"I’m a nice person… A good person, but you make me bitter and ugly…"

Derek and Lindsay’s story, is a pretty emotive one, and you can really empathise with both parties as the story of their initial getting together back in college, and then separation eight years previous is explained. Derek being in an untenable situation at that time, and having his heart pulled in two different directions decides to do the honourable thing rather over and above what he really wants, which leads to Lindsey’s heart being broken, without much of an explanation as to why. I liked that they both had to deal with those issues from the past while working towards getting back together again, it wasn’t an easy journey, and it wasn’t rushed either which gave you as a reader huge amounts of sexual tension and emotion to deal with for and from them as a couple.
"I enjoy wanting you this bad. But I worry I may never have you again."
To say I adored this book and Derek and Lindsey would be slightly understated, Nicole managed to give me a story that I quite simply got lost in, even with some of my least favourite tropes included. The build up to Annie and Mike’s wedding features heavily in the story as well, which I loved as it gave lots of scope to bring back the characters from the past books, and give us a little development on their individual stories as well.
"I’d forgotten how much you like to talk."
I am sad that this is the end of the Hearts and Crafts series, but the author ended it in style and on a high for me, and I hope that she has more books and series along the lines of this one on the planner for the future.

Draw Me Close is the third and final book in Nicole Michaels Hearts and Crafts series. This was also the first book I've read by this author and definitely want to go back and read the first two of the series. Each book can be read as a standalone since each focuses on a different couple.
Lindsey Morales and Derek Walsh have a history. They first met in college and had a fast, yet intense, relationship before Derek broke both their hearts by ending their relationship. Now, eight years later, Derek is divorced and looking to repair the relationship with only woman he has ever truly loved. Only problem, Lindsey wants NOTHING to do with him.

Draw Me Close was a beautiful and heartfelt second chance love story.
I was touched with Lindsey & Derek's story, from the start I could see how much these two still cared for each other. Time apart had not lessen the love and connection they once shared.
I enjoyed watching them open up, communicate & work at putting the past hurts behind them and building a strong foundation for the future.
This truly was a beautiful read, the drama was well done and not over the top. I laughed, swooned, got a little teary and the ending left me smiling and feeling these two had a wonderful life ahead.
The Hearts and Crafts series has been a very entertaining read, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them all.
Looking forward to reading more from this talented author, thank you Nicole Michaels for writing & sharing your words with us.

4 sometimes the right decision is the wrong one and you require a second chance stars. You guessed it, this is a second chance romance and what a lovely one it was! Derek and Lindsey are united once again because, as fate would have it, their best friends are getting married. Lindsey wants nothing to do with Derek after he shattered her heart while Derek wants nothing more than to have a chance to talk with the only woman he's ever truly loved. To say it's a interesting ride is putting it mildly.
Lindsey is struggling financially and emotionally. She's worked hard to be independent and loves what she does. When Derek waltzes back into her life, she does everything within her power to avoid him while keeping the project they are working on afloat. She doesn't want anything to do with him and that's fair considering he broke her heart into a million pieces and she's yet to really fix it. Lindsey is smart, hard-working, compassionate, loyal, sweet and an all around good human being.
Derek, ah, my sweet, gorgeous, wealthy, architect. He made a decision the decision to break his own heart in order to do what he felt was right. He loved Lindsey but chose to end things with her for his son. When life gives him a second chance, he doesn't just take it, he grasps at it with both hands. You cheer for Derek and respect him for being such a good man and father. Derek wouldn't have had the chance to get to Lindsey without Mike, his best friend, which makes you love Mike, as well.
They were almost to the tux shop doorway when Mike turned and glared at Derek. "Hold up. Are you telling you had sex in my new house before I did?" When Derek didn't respond Mike just shook his head and opened the door. "That's messed up, man."
Derek and Lindsey have zero chance of anything as far as Lindsey's concerned because she's looking out for her heart. As far as Derek's concerned, he's willing to pull out all the stops and do and say whatever he needs to in order to have something. He was miserable without her, just as miserable as she was, and he wants nothing more than to fix all of it. It's a good thing Derek has Mike in his corner and that Lindsey still loves him because things are very touch and go. It all wraps up with Lindsey and Derek as they should have been, happy, in love and together.

I usually am not to fond of the whole which is exactly what the premise of this book was. That being said, they make great reads when you are in the mood for a angsty heartbroken heroine. Which I was...
I surprisingly really enjoyed this one! It was well written, the plot flowed nicely. I never felt the need to skim. The secondary characters were well written and interesting. It had just the right amount of angst. There was push/pull, but I felt it was appropriate for the story.
I liked Derek considering I think the reason he left Lindsey was stupid, but that is just my opinion in general with that particular plot device. I felt he groveled, and understood what he did hurt not only Lindsey, but himself and Lisa. He also didn't steamroll back into Lindsey's life, but pushed, and then backed off when she asked. He was a pretty likable character. I really liked Lindsey also. I felt her pain at what Derek had done, the lies etc. She was a strong heroine, and didn't just fall back into his arms. He had to work at getting her to trust him again.
Considering this appears to be the final book in the series, I was a little disappointed that we don't get an epilogue about this couples future. I would have liked to have been giving a peek into the future with marriage and babies and all that. The book felt a little incomplete without it.
Overall though I enjoyed this one, and will probably check out the books in this series.

This little book has been sitting on my bookshelves for a couple of weeks and I decided on a whim to try it out after reading the blurb. Books like these generally suck me in and I was hoping to find a new author’s who’s work I could devour.
Now DRAW ME CLOSE is the third book in the Hearts and Crafts series but since it’s a Contemporary Romance I thought it would be okay to jump in here. This story is about a decorator and lifestyle blogger named Lindsey Morales and a sexy architect named Derek Walsh. If we go back eight years ago, these two actually had something going on but when Derek chose his career over their relationship, it has left Lindsey feeling hurt and bitter. As they work together on renovating an old farmhouse, that is when the tensions rise.
First off, I want to talk a little about the characters. While I liked Derek, it was Lindsey’s character that was a little hard for me to get into. On her own, I think she is a lovely woman. She is intelligent, creative and has that drive that I admire in a lot of people. But when she is with Derek, she is a mean snake and I didn’t really like that. I understand, given their past, why she would act that way towards him but if you were like me and picked up this book without having read the other books in the series, you’d probably see Lindsey as a bitch. She is VERY closed off and while it makes for an excellent conflict for the book, it doesn’t make me want to run and read the other books in the series. I can only hope that she isn’t as nasty in the other books as she is in this one.
I would’ve liked to see Lindsey in her own element first. Possibly in the presence of the other girls first just so readers got a sense that she can be likeable BEFORE Derek entered and the bickering started. But based on first impressions, she came across as too strong and standoffish and kind of set me back a bit.
Nevertheless, Nicole Michaels goes a good job of redeeming her. She builds a believable romance, especially considering what these two characters had to go through to get to this point. I’m just not sure if I will be going back to read the other books in the series just yet.

Awesome read! I hate seeing this series end but what a great book to end it with. This is the third installment in the Hearts and Crafts series but each book is easily read standalone. Each book is a wonderfully crafted story with intriguing characters but this one is by far my favorite. I'm a sucker for a good second chance story and this one is great.
Lindsey Morales and Derek Walsh first met in college. Theirs was a fast yet intense relationship that was over way too quickly. Out of the blue Derek broke things off. Now, eight years later, they are reunited and working together on a farmhouse restoration. Both single but Lindsey's had her heart broken once by this guy and won't let it happen again. Yet as time goes by, reasons for that long ago breakup become apparent. Can Derek convince Lindsey to give him another chance?
You definitely want to grab this one and find out. I highly recommend it.

Lindsey Morales is renovating her friend's house while trying to avoid the architect who is handling the structural part of the work. Architect Derek Walsh and Lindsey have a history. Lindsey is still angry at Derek for marrying someone else. Derek can't believe Lindsey won't talk to him long enough to let him apologize. Can she resist this smooth talker when he decides to win over her affection again?
Derek not only got married after breaking up with Lindsey, but he also had a son. Lindsey can't forget their incredible relationship eight years prior and the bomb Derek unloaded when he told her that he loved someone else. Lindsey still feels naive for not knowing Derek was involved with another woman when she was falling in love with him. When she realizes Derek's son is around eight years old, Lindsey feels duped even more.
Derek's best friend Mike is marrying one of Lindsey's best friends and fellow bloggers, Anne. Anne started a blog, then invited Callie to join her. Next they invited Lindsey to post about her specialties, such as repurposing furniture and making trash into treasure. They're also sharing the house renovation and Anne's upcoming wedding with their followers. Lindsey's friends know her need to avoid Derek, but will they help or hinder her wishes?
One of my favorite themes for contemporary romance is reunited lovers. I'm also extremely fond of house renovation and blogging so this story drew me in, even though I hadn't read the first two books in the HEARTS AND CRAFTS series. There is a lot of detail about the house renovation so if you're intrigued by that sort of thing, you won't be disappointed. The wedding planning and the actual wedding of Anne and Mike is also a big part of this novel, so if you've read the previous books, you'll enjoy catching up with those characters. I actually bought book one START ME UP, which is Anne and Mike's story, prior to accepting book three to review because I love the idea of a series based on crafts and blogging. I'm looking forward to reading START ME UP next. Book three, DRAW ME CLOSE, is also easily read as a standalone.
Lindsey's anger and pain is palpable from the very beginning. She has shut herself off from Derek and wants to keep it that way. Lindsey is bitter about their relationship and focuses on her work. But Derek still loves Lindsey and isn't ready to give up on the idea of a future with her. He actually finds her bossy way of telling him what to do with the house renovations sexy. Derek knows he made a mistake and he's willing to do whatever he possibly can to fix their past and create a future.
I understood Lindsey's anger but it was hard to read about it throughout most of the book. Even though I felt bad for Lindsey, I also wanted her to move on and stop dwelling. Derek was a jerk in the way he handled their breakup. He lied and Lindsey had to live with that lie for eight years. I also understood Derek's reasoning for the lie. He was trying to do what was best for everyone involved, but even I had a hard time forgiving him and not thinking of him as anything but a first class jerk. Even though I felt the writing mechanics and techniques were flawless, I couldn't warm up to either character enough to be completely convinced of their happy-ever-after until the last couple of chapters. It was a sweet ending but the inner turmoil lasted too long for my preference.
I also didn't enjoy the initial portrayal of the ex-wife. I really dislike the commonality in most of these types of stories when the ex-wife is depicted as a villain. When in truth, she's just as hurt as the rest of them. Eventually she gets a chance to redeem herself in this story, which was a nice change of pace, but I was already disturbed by her primary characterization as the bad girl.
Even though I wasn't fond of some aspects of this novel, I enjoyed author Nicole Michaels' ability to weave convincing characterization. She made me feel for her characters even when I didn't agree with their actions. Nicole Michaels writes a sexy story where sex is prominent in the couple's relationship before they commit. Not quite erotic, it will please readers who prefer a sensual story.
DRAW ME CLOSE is a good play on words for this couple's artistic abilities. There's a cute scenario repeated from their past that's part of their courtship. I'm also extremely fond of house renovation and blogging so this story drew me in, even though I hadn't read the first two books in the HEARTS AND CRAFTS series. There is a lot of detail about the house renovation so if you're intrigued by that sort of thing, you won't be disappointed. The wedding planning and the actual wedding of Anne and Mike is also a big part of this novel, so if you've read the previous books, you'll enjoy catching up with those characters. I actually bought book one START ME UP, which is Anne and Mike's story, prior to accepting book three to review because I love the idea of a series based on crafts and blogging. I'm looking forward to reading START ME UP next. Book three, DRAW ME CLOSE, is also easily read as a standalone.
Lindsey's anger and pain is palpable from the very beginning. She has shut herself off from Derek and wants to keep it that way. Lindsey is bitter about their relationship and focuses on her work. But Derek still loves Lindsey and isn't ready to give up on the idea of a future with her. He actually finds her bossy way of telling him what to do with the house renovations sexy. Derek knows he made a mistake and he's willing to do whatever he possibly can to fix their past and create a future.
I understood Lindsey's anger but it was hard to read about it throughout most of the book. Even though I felt bad for Lindsey, I also wanted her to move on and stop dwelling. Derek was a jerk in the way he handled their breakup. He lied and Lindsey had to live with that lie for eight years. I also understood Derek's reasoning for the lie. He was trying to do what was best for everyone involved, but even I had a hard time forgiving him and not thinking of him as anything but a first class jerk. Even though I felt the writing mechanics and techniques were flawless, I couldn't warm up to either character enough to be completely convinced of their happy-ever-after until the last couple of chapters. It was a sweet ending but the inner turmoil lasted too long for my preference.
I also didn't enjoy the initial portrayal of the ex-wife. I really dislike the commonality in most of these types of stories when the ex-wife is depicted as a villain. When in truth, she's just as hurt as the rest of them. Eventually she gets a chance to redeem herself in this story, which was a nice change of pace, but I was already disturbed by her primary characterization as the bad girl.
Even though I wasn't fond of some aspects of this novel, I enjoyed author Nicole Michaels' ability to weave convincing characterization. She made me feel for her characters even when I didn't agree with their actions. Nicole Michaels writes a sexy story where sex is prominent in the couple's relationship before they commit. Not quite erotic, it will please readers who prefer a sensual story.
DRAW ME CLOSE is a good play on words for this couple's artistic abilities. There's a cute scenario repeated from their past that's part of their courtship. If you enjoy contemporary relationship stories with a creative theme, check out the HEARTS AND CRAFTS trilogy: START ME UP, WIN ME OVER and DRAW ME CLOSE.

This series has been hit or miss for me but I am such a sucker for second chance at love stories. With some characters it's hard to see if some actions are redeemable but it Derek's case it was kind of loose loose situation but by the end of the book I found myself forgiving him right along side Lindsey.
Their relationship started 8 years ago and didn't last that long because Derek broke up with her saying he loved someone else and broke Lindsey's heart. After that she changed and didn't want to let anyone get to her like Derek did.
Now they both are working together on their best friends house. Although Lindsey tries to avoid Derek at all costs he still manages to set her on fire when he is near. All he wants to do is explain what happened and why he did it but that's proving to more difficult then he expected.
So I want to say the storyline was different then other second chance at love stories but it wasn't. He messed up now he wants her back and she wants him but she doesn't want to trust him. But what is a little different is why they broke up in the first place. First I was like how could let someone influence him like that but then when he actually explains in great detail the why I totally understood that he wanted to be the man his family was proud of even though it cost him his own happiness.
Right away you can still see how much Lindsey loves and cares for him but she fights so hard to leave the past in the past. I thought she was a strong heroine and I liked how independent she was. She is in the process of getting her life right where she wants it. Derek who is also smart and a business owner understands her drive. I like how he took the time to get to know the new her and not the girl she used to be.
Even though Derek messed up I give him credit for everything he did to win her over the second time. He was smart and thoughtful in each decision.
Overall I did enjoy this book and the more I read of the series the more I want more of these characters.

Good plot with lots of drama, romance about second chances. A couple of love scenes.
Lindsey Morales is decorator. She helps write a blog. She repurpose items. makes things to sell on the internet. She is having a down cycle right now. Living with her sister. She is decorating a old farm house for her good friend Annie.
Architect Derek Walsh is the contractor working on a old farm house for his good friend Mike. He is divorced single father. He wants to make amends to Lindsey for hurting her years ago. He thought he was making the right choices at the time.
Lindsey goes out of her way to not be around when Derek is working on the house. She is still hurt by how he ended their relationship back in college. Derek keeps trying to get Lindsey to listen to him.
While they work on the house together, they are both involved in the wedding of Annie and Mike.
This is the third book in the series. It is easy to just read alone. I did not feel lost in just reading the last book. Someday I would like to be able to read the first two books of the series though.

Draw Me Close by Nicole Michaels gives readers hope that second chances are possible, even though it sometimes feels the exact opposite. Lindsey and Derek have a history together and when they parted, it wasn’t on good terms. Fate brings Lindsey and Derek back together and Derek makes it his mission to win over Lindsey. It’s not easy, but what’s meant to be will be!
I loved both characters so much and I was rooting for them from the very beginning. I’m so happy how it all turned out for them.
As for the story itself, the book is well-written and will definitely give readers a great romance! Highly recommended!

Lindsey does everything she can do to avoid the contractor with whom she's supposed to work with to renovate a farmhouse, because they have an history. Eight years ago, he broke things off with her , saying he's still in love with someone else. He lied and never told her the truth was because his ex told him she's pregnant and he wanted to try being with her for the sake of his child. Derek regretted his decision ever since. After a nasty divorce, he's determined to ask Lindsey for a second chance. But she's still pissed at him, have hard feelings, so he's gonna have to work hard to get past her defenses.
First of all, I just have to ask : Why the hell didn't he just told her the truth instead of not only hiding it from her but lying too ?? Seriously I just don't understand. I wish I could tell it's the only thing that bothered me about this book, but it was too angsty for my taste. I totally understand the heroine for being mad at Derek for what he did, but did she had to be such a bitch about it ? And she was fighting the attraction for too long. It took too much time before they clear the air too. I found it annoying how they feel threatened each time the other was talking to someone from the opposite sex. It's for all those reasons that the romance for me was not satisfying.
But I really liked the moment when they were sledding on the hills with the kids because it's one of the best memories from my chilhood. And I really liked the comic idea too.

Draw Me Close (Hearts and Crafts #3) by Nicole Michaels should have been a feel good romance about two former lovers reuniting after years apart because of external conflicts. The external conflicts are big here, which make sense why the hero and heroine would remain apart for almost a decade, and why the heroine is still hurting over the hero's deceit and betrayal. What the hero has done to the heroine is unforgivable in my eyes, mainly because of the way it's presented. It feels false and unrealistic, and also a trope found in some romances like this that usually make my eyes roll. It involves lying and cheating basically, which the hero tries to explain isn't exactly lying and betrayal because the girlfriend he was with, while he cheated on her with the heroine in college was acceptable because they were on a break. But the hero got sloppy. Within weeks of cheating with the heroine, his then girlfriend got pregnant. In turn he dumps the heroine and marries the girlfriend, having a horrible marriage, thus getting a divorce, leaving him open to reconnect with the heroine and make amends just because she was the one who got away, and he still lusts for her.
Lindsey is an amazing interior decorator who's slowly going places. She writes for a lifestyle blog that has exploded, which is highlighted in the last two books in this series. Lindsey is working on a house for one of her blogger partners, who is getting married. Her fiance's friend is Derek, an architect who Lindsey has a past with. Lindsey and Derek met in college and had a fling. Lindsey thought it would become more, but then he ended up dumping her. What she didn't know at the time was that Derek was on a break with his long time girlfriend. But right before he ends up with Lindsey, his girlfriend got pregnant. Wanting to do the right thing, Derek marries his girlfriend, leaving Lindsey heartbroken. Now Derek is divorced. His ex-wife is a witch who manipulates him over their son. But Derek wants to make up for lost time with Lindsey, who he has to work with. Lindsey is still upset and angry over Derek's cheating and dropping her. She tries to maintain his distance, but he won't allow that. He cajoles and begs her to listen to him, and let them be friends. He can't change the past, but Lindsey was always the one woman he loved, even though he did try to give his marriage a go, EVEN thinking about having more children with his ex-wife at the time.
Derek essentially tires Lindsey out that she has no choice but to forgive him or at least humor him. She slowly begins to trust him again, and within a few months, they're lovers again. But Derek's ex-wife is threatening for full custody of their son if Derek continues to be with Lindsey because she knows Lindsey was the woman Derek was with while on their break, even though he still had sex with her and got her pregnant (keep in mind this is a few weeks before he is intimate with Lindsey at college).
Draw Me Close just rubbed me the wrong way form beginning to end, mainly because of Derek and what he pulled not only with Lindsey, but with his ex-wife, who is purposely portrayed as a witch so the reader will want Derek and Lindsey together. Because of the premise with Derek and his past with Lindsey, I just couldn't connect with the story or their lover's reunion. I wanted a better man for Lindsey because Derek didn't deserve her. He came across as a big mistake from her past, one she didn't needed to help her with her future. I didn't believe their HEA. I was rooting for Lindsey to walk off in the sunset, a proud confident woman without Derek. That didn't happen.
Pass on this one because of Derek and his weak excuse on why it was okay for him to be with Lindsey even though he wasn't honest with her or his then girlfriend at the time. Not my idea of what a romance entails.

I'm always weak when the guy has a term of endearment for the girl. And especially when it just comes naturally to him whenever she is worried, hurt or all the time hah! Derek was like this and I fell head over heels for him. He is all over regret and guilt and love. He is fueled by them. What he wants most is to get back Lindsey Morales.
Lindsey Morales is half Mexican so you know I gotta support my girls. She is fierce and wants to achieve her goals. What she doesn't want is to look at Derek and his sexiness all around. She tries really hard to not meet him after he suddenly appeared in front of her eight years later, but fortunately, Derek is a man who never gives up.
My heart pained every time they hurt or were sad. These two people made me feel so much, I can't believe it. There is so many things surrounding them and I was like: Take a breath and think about what you're going to say before saying it! Some moments where I just love and adore; so cute and nice to read about simple actions.
I hope Nicole writes another book in this town! I'm eyeing some characters that are perfect for their own story! ps. It was also a really good thing to see the past couples again. My loves Callie and Bennett, and obviously Anne and Mike who are a big part of this book as well. Draw Me Close is the first novel I have read by Nicole Michaels. Her story is filled with two amazing heroes that will melt te hearts of readers everywhere. A hot, intriguing and exciting adventure wait at the hands of readers. Nicole Michaels has beautifully woven a passionate yet sexy read. The characters are brilliantly well-developed and will charm anyone who follows their journey. Upon reading this romantic story, readers will see that one character is a decorator and the other an architect. This sounds like the perfect match; however, the plot goes much deeper and starts off with where the two were in the past. One wanting to settling down and the other wasn't ready. Readers will be drawn instantly to this heartmelting and perfect novel.

For me, reading this book was more about satisfying my curiosity about Lindsey and Derek than anything else, because I had some difficulty getting into both the characters and the story.
Derek spends most of the time assuming things about how Lindsey feels, thinks, reacts, and often those reactions come across as a bit rude and aggressive. Besides, the two of them seem to be always in the same place - he wants to get her back but keeps saying and doing all the wrong things; she wants to forget him but never really manages to let go. They sound like teenagers, not adults. At some point they were both so miserable I wanted to whack then both in the head and tell them to either get down to it or just move on.
Don't get me wrong, Draw Me Close is still a very enjoyable romance novel, and even though it's book three in the Hearts and Crafts series by Nicole Michaels, it can be perfectly read stand alone. In my opinion, though, it's not the best in the series.

I really struggled to get this far. I'm usually a fan of the second chance trope, but here it feels all kinds of wrong.
First off, I don't understand why Derek had to lie to Lindsey about why he was breaking up with her. It just feels like the author needed a reason for Lindsey's animosity and the real reason wasn't good enough. Secondly, Lindsey is so unlikable. I don't get what Derek sees in her and why would he try to win her back. I honestly think he deserves someone better.
Bottom line, I'm unable to continue reading this book because in my opinion they shouldn't be together.

I've had this book to read for a while and honestly I tried a couple of times, but there was something about Lindsey that kept me from getting past chapter 1. I finally told myself that I couldn't give up on it unless I got to chapter 4 and really just couldn't go on. Boy am I glad I gave this one another shot. There is something so incredibly sexy about a man who is trying to make things right and win back the only woman he's ever loved. Sure Derek went about things the wrong way eight years before, but he had a reason...a very noble, if not misguided one. I can't fault him for it at all, in fact, many people make the same mistake.
Lindsey was really harsh with Derek for a good portion of the book. So harsh that I felt she was being a bit childish and she ended up getting physically injured because of her behavior. I totally thought it served her right. She had been carrying the bitterness of their break up with her for eight long years. That's far too long for a grown up to continue to let something like that weigh them down or to let it affect them. I get some anger when they met up again, but her reaction was a bit much.
Even with that, I still enjoyed the book.

This is the second book in the series that I have read, missing the first unfortunately. Loved the tension between Lindsay and Derek and had to read about their history after the scene between them in Book two of this series. Their history is well covered and I enjoyed the character development which allowed me to get to know both characters so well.
Great read in a series that doesn't seem to disappoint.

Draw Me Close is the final book in the Heart and Crafts series by Nicole Michaels. This has become one of my favorite series and I love that it ends on such a positive note. In both Start Me Up and Win Me Over, you get a little glimpse into Lindsey and Derek's history. Yet there was so much their friends and I wanted to know.

Okay, Nicole Michaels is my new favourite contemporary romance author. This is an amazing story about 2 people who were in love but ripped apart because of a decision one of them made, a decision which at the time seemed to be the right one but in hindsight was wrong for everyone. Lindsey and Derek have great chemistry but Lindsey is (with reason) reluctant to allow Derek back into her life after the damage he caused. Derek, meanwhile, wants desperately for her to let him back in but realizes that may never happen and respects her reasons why. Reading these 2 people find their way back to each other, with the only conflict being a legit emotional one which requires work on both their parts, was a wonderful experience. I read it in one day and didn't want to leave these 2 behind. They worked hard for their HEA and I can not recommend this book enough.
I anxiously await Nicole Michaels next book. Hopefully we will get to re-visit all the characters from Hearts and Crafts as there were hints of possible spin off without getting into a wacky world of crazy smalltown-ness which can drive me crazy.

Having really liked Book 2 of this series, Win Me Over, this NetGalley reviewer was delighted to receive an ARC via NetGalley for Draw Me Close, Book 3. Once again, Ms. Michaels did not disappoint. From the refreshingly romantic book cover to the engaging storyline that flows effortlessly across the pages, I thoroughly enjoyed this angst-filled, groveling hero, second chance romantic tale.
My fellow romance book-loving friends, when I say angst, I mean A-N-G-S-T! From the moment I started reading about these two separated lovebirds, I felt I was holding my breath until they finally got their HEA.

Was the hero perfect? Absolutely not. In fact, Derek was obviously quite a knucklehead eight years ago when he chose not to reveal why he was ending their relationship. For me, it was quite a relief to find he had not cheated on Lindsey while they were dating. No, his transgression which lead to them being torn apart happened before he met her. In case you are wondering, it was also another very stupid thing to have done. Unfortunately, the timing/circumstances could not have been worse. The end result was still the same. It left Lindsey broken-hearted and devastated.
Was Lindsey perfect? Pretty much. I loved how she hid her emotions and tried to simply avoid being around Derek, especially not giving him the satisfaction of even looking into her eyes. Yes, I know it may sound petty, but I wanted this girl to be strong and not give in easily. Naturally, she was very guarded and reluctant to hand her heart over to him ever again. She seemed to know well before him that his attempts at friendship was bound to lead to something more, which likely meant more heartache for her.
Now I’m happy to report this is where a lot of groveling kicked in. It didn’t take Derek long to realize he wanted more than just Lindsey’s friendship. This is also where you realize he really is a good guy who regrets his past decisions and just wants a future with the only woman he’s ever loved, Lindsey.
Now this is where I will draw my review to a close. You’ll just have to read the rest of the story yourself. While you are at it, I suggest you check out the other books, as well. Each is a stand-alone romance but the great cast of characters in this series appear in supporting roles in each book.

My fellow romance book-loving friends, when I say angst, I mean A-N-G-S-T! From the moment I started reading about these two separated lovebirds, I felt I was holding my breath until they finally got their HEA.

Was the hero perfect? Absolutely not. In fact, Derek was obviously quite a knucklehead eight years ago when he chose not to reveal why he was ending their relationship. For me, it was quite a relief to find he had not cheated on Lindsey while they were dating. No, his transgression which lead to them being torn apart happened before he met her. In case you are wondering, it was also another very stupid thing to have done. Unfortunately, the timing/circumstances could not have been worse. The end result was still the same. It left Lindsey broken-hearted and devastated.
Was Lindsey perfect? Pretty much. I loved how she hid her emotions and tried to simply avoid being around Derek, especially not giving him the satisfaction of even looking into her eyes. Architect Derek Walsh normally spends his days designing and constructing modern structures, but when his friends want to employ his services to help restore life into their hundred year old farm house, his desire to restore some historic fine craftsmanship for a change wins out. Lindsey is thrilled to have the opportunity to put her talents to good use, and hopes that this job will help her put her little business on the map, and potentially bring in a few more customers too. But when she learns that the contractor they've hired to help her with the project just so happens to be the man that broke her heart eight years ago, she is instantly filled with apprehension. Having him walk away all those years ago was completely devastating for her and she has went to great lengths to avoid any contact with him for fear of being pulled back in and having heart broke all over again. Being this close to him is going to be challenging, but she has heart her guarded and has no plan of the letting the enemy back in...
After reading the synopsis for this story I knew it was going to be good second chance love story that I could really submerse myself into, and I am happy to report that my initial thoughts were spot on, barely a chapter into it, and I was in deep!! Lindsey and Derek's story pulled me in almost immediately and had me flying right through the pages in search of what I hoped to be a very well deserved happy ending, and I have to say that I found that and SO much more!! From the very beginning it was evident that these two were a match made in literary heaven, the chemistry between them burned brightly from start to finish... and also help to create some very steamy encounters that had me blushing and smiling like a fool!!
If you have not had the opportunity to read this series yet, I encourage you you to remedy that very soon!! Not only are you missing out on some truly exceptional reading, but also the opportunity to meet some very charming characters that are certain to cement a permanent place in your heart!!

This was the first book in this series that I read, so I wasn't already familiar with Anne or Callie, but that wasn't necessary. The bits about their relationships, especially Anne & Mike's, did peak my interest and I will definitely be tracking down "Start Me Up."
From the beginning, we are teased with the reactions to situations without knowing exactly how justified those reactions are. Slowly, over the course of the first half of the book, those details are fleshed out alongside the build-up of the relationship between Lindsey and Derek, as well as the secondary characters.
And let me tell you, I really enjoyed that. There were peeks into their past, some of them sexy, some of them touching. You know where it's all leading, but the lead-up is so very well done that you love Derek, you love Lindsey, and you love Derek & Lindsey. The fact that they don't just start things up again as though 8 years has never passed is honestly great. There were moments that had me laughing out loud, or smirking, or just smiling. The "post-it note" thing in the very beginning is funny and sets a good tone for the book.
I appreciated that there wasn't a big throw-down as the climax - it felt much more realistic than so many others I have read. I did, however, expect a bit more fireworks at the wedding and was a bit disappointed, though there were so many earlier scenes where hearts were bared that it did make sense.
The final interaction we see between Derek and Lisa is wonderful, in my opinion. It was refreshing and real. I wouldn't be opposed to a story featuring Lisa, though this seems to be the last book in this series.
I also wanted to remark on are the kids and parenting done in this book. As a mom, I really enjoyed how cute and normal the kids were, and the interactions between the parents and their kids. As a nursing mom, I really liked how natural the subject of breastfeeding and pumped bottles was brought up (very subtle references, like "switching sides").
The last things I'll comment on are the crafting and small business angle. Pinterest, Etsy, First Friday, food trucks... Nicole Michaels did a fantastic job of weaving it all into the story without being over-the-top or like a tutorial. It added a fair amount of charm and depth to the characters and story, which I liked.
This was a fun, quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys romantic comedies with heart and a satisfying amount of steaminess.
