Logan Masters, is an ambitious specialty surgeon whose past is riddled with betrayal. His trust in women is conditional- no secrets and no boundaries. When he comes to Ava’s rescue, there is no denying the spark of attraction. Things get complicated when Logan pursues Ava, rather than the arranged relationship that holds his business alliance together.
After years of being alone Ava starts to believe that love is possible under Logan’s skillful touch. But Ava is harboring a secret she doesn’t want exposed. Determined to guard her heart, Ava soon discovers Logan is as focused on winning her heart as she is at shielding it away.
When secrets and broken alliances threaten to torpedo both their futures, how will they chart a course to lasting love?
Oh, I can't stop drooling over the H. He was super possessive, jealous, protective, obsessive, stalkerific, caveman, and ALPHA to the max. I want a H that has the total package and this one fit it to the "T." From the very first page the H knows he wants the h and never wavers. He does all the chasing, which I love. He is a swoonworthy surgeon with hard muscles. I love it when a H is so devastated when the h leaves him or there is a separation in the relationship. This H becomes panicked and frantic when the h mentions that maybe they shouldn't be together. The H's brother and friend were great characters and I can't wait for their stories. I am anxiously waiting to read Lina's story and super excited to have discovered such an incredible author.
Chasing Ava by Siera London Bachelors of Shell Cove series #1. Diverse contemporary romance. Own voice. Ava Walters is a pediatric nurse at the hospital in Shell Cove, Florida. She has a crush on Dr. Logan Masters but she would never act on it. First, she has secrets and a wounded heart. Second, being assertive is not in her nature. But now Logan has decided they are perfect together and he’s not letting her go.
Secrets and hurt on both sides. Economic differences. Race and power differences. All that and they still want each other. He’s obsessive. He’s in love. Secondary characters add depth.
Saw this mentioned at one of the Amazon forum threads and one-clicked it as soon as I saw the hero was "very OTT and all MINE MINE MINE" but....it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. First, the hero. Yes, he was possessive of the heroine. Claimed her as his real fast but then spent the rest of the time crowding her and each time she tried to put distance between them, he got even more possessive and all "don't leave me. Give me the words. You want a relationship with me." blah blah blah. He was keeping a secret from her about why he was the way he was and she was keeping a secret from him about her past so while they were together, they were still not "completely" together because they both had to tell the other their secret. Second, the heroine. She was way too wimpy for me. "Oh, you're a big bad doctor, you'd never fall for someone like me" was a frequent discussion brought up and after the first few times, it got very very old. Third, his mother. Wow, what a piece of work she was and from the ending, there was no mention that she ever got what she deserved for her attitude towards the heroine. Hero just told the heroine that she'd never have to see her again. That was it.
This book set in motion probably the next two books with the other characters already going "She's mine." Maybe I'll read, maybe not. Who knows. This one didn't grab me as I thought it would.
First let me say I am shouting to the heavens one because this story has ended and two that it is so freaking good!!I have experienced a slew of emotions throughout this story that at one point I was just reading in slow motion.I have loved this story from beginning to end.I love the alpha male in Logan it's everything you want from possessive, sexy, take charge and just plain crazy.I love he knows what he wants and not afraid to tell you and to go out and get it,now that's crazy. Now on to Ava she starts out the damsel in distress and we are fooled. We later find out that not only does she core of steel but she also has a sense of humor. This is a gripping story of two people who've been betrayed and they are afraid to love again out loud. They get it right, not to mention the supporting cast is just fantastic. This is romance and life done right. The writer gets that life is hard enough without tacking on unnecessary drama.I am setting on pins and needles for the next installment.
I enjoyed it...I was skeptical at first but as I read on, I could not put it down. Ava came off too skittish, but in the end she found her courage and fought for her man. Dr. Masters is an alpha male on steroids...OMG....once he set his sights on Ava....It was game over...very exciting...the next installment is about the best friends...can't wait
Ava is a pediatric nurse in the same hospital that Logan is a surgeon in Shell Cove, Florida. Ava had a huge crush on the doctor but, because of the difference in their positions, she never let her feels show. Logan was strongly attracted to Ava and pursued her. He didn't care about the social or racial differences they shared but his family (mother) did!
Since both Ava and Logan had past relationship issues that affected their romance, neither could trust the other. There were so many things that blocked this pair from becoming a couple that I was deeply saddened for them. I felt so sorry for Logan being forced to marry Rebecca just to join their families and have him get a position on the hospital board. The subtle threats from Rebecca's father and not so subtle threats from Logan's mother were shocking. Poor Ava was verbally attacked by Logan's mother more than once when she tried to get rid of her that I felt bad for Ava and understood why she felt she had to leave Logan (for his own good).
I didn't like the dominance Logan displayed to Ava. Yes he had his reasons but he never shared them with Ava. I particularly didn't like the way he always referred to Ava as "mine". Other than that issue with Logan, I did like the characters and found them believable. The secondary characters were a mix of fun like Granny Lou or horrible like Maribelle that all helped make this story terrific.
I enjoyed this book and am glad I won it in a Just Contemporary Romance giveaway.
Logan was overbearing and should have told Ava about the machinations with Sam and Rebecca, however Ava’s behavior was too frustrating for my liking. She was constantly running, she never shared her feelings with Logan and worst of all she run to the Navy without telling him. Then she comes back and because she sees a lady fully clothed in his house, instead of asking questions she runs again. She had zero trust in him and to be frank I don’t see why he was so in love. The whole thing felt one sided. I personally wouldn’t be so quick to forgive her behavior. She made a meal of the brunch. Yes his mother was obnoxious but his father and brother had nothing to do with it yet she tarnished them with the same brush. She kept going on about how Logan hurt her, actually he didn’t because he didn’t invite his mother and on top of everything her behavior is not his fault. I couldn’t understand how she could be in the Navy when she was pictured as this fearful little thing scared of men. That didn’t make any sense. Any case of a health professional not seeking the help they need, because frankly she should have seen a therapist for her issues.
WOW! Logan is intense. But, he loves him some Ava. This is the authors first book and I was impressed. The book had very few errors. It was a good length. This appears to be the trend for the new authors. I hope it continues. The families of tbe H/h are what you would expect. I look forward to reading Lina's story.
I love the story line. Ava is a woman that has been through it and back. Logan is my new book boyfriend. I love is need for control but also how hard he loves. Can't wait for the next book
This story was extremely enjoyable and well written. Anytime I fall in love with the hero right off the bat, I know I am in for a good time. Logan was bossy, possessive and demanding. He was also kind, generous and loving. He made himself vulnerable from the beginning of the story and I really wanted to shake Ava to get her to wake up!!!
Ava had gone through some tragic abuse at the hands of her college boyfriend. At the time of this story, she was grown, on her own and seasoned in her profession. Yet, she still had not dealt with her trauma and allowed her family to coddle her. Being a nurse, you would think she would have gotten some help to deal with her anxiety and PTSD. No, not Ava. She preferred to hide in her house and not deal with her issues.
She had a gorgeous, loving man giving her his heart on a platter and she refused to fully allow him in. I say refused because she certainly knew she had issues, but chose to ignore them. Nor did she trust him enough to share what happened to her. No, instead she ran from him.
Logan once again proved he was a great guy by waiting for her to come back to him. She left and joined the Navy without telling for Christ’s sake! Oh, Ava did not deserve that man’s love, but the heart wants what it wants. Logan’s heart wanted Ava and only Ava.
I enjoyed the ending as well as the supporting characters. As always, a HEA is a good thing.
Perfect title for this book! Because all Ava did was run from her life; her fears; and the love of her life. Yes, Marcus was a dangerous monster but Ava constantly pushed Logan away and made him pay for Marcus' abuse. But Logan hung in there even when he should have given up. And how does Ava repay him? She joins the Navy and sneaks away in the middle of the night. Now what????
Ava has been hurt. Logan has been betrayed. Both are dealing with their pasts. When Logan decides to pursue Ava, he won't give up. I like that Ava goes after her dreams. The issue that I had is that so many issues could have been avoided if the Ava and Logan if they would only communicate.
"Chasing Ava" is book one in Siera London "Bachelor's of Shell Cove" series. It was such a great start to a new to me series and author. I definitely can't wait to continue on in this series. Ava and Logan both have something from their past that keep them from getting serious with someone new. The pull towards each other in this book was so well written and kept me wanting to keep reading. I read it in one sitting and absolutely enjoyed it. Book two will be read sooner rather than later.
I was undecided for some time about my rating for this book, because I wasn't really fond of the heroine. I guess I'm drawn to stronger women and Ava let people walk all over her. Due to a past boyfriend, she basically suffered from PTSD and when faced with aggressive men, she shut down. Logan on the other hand made me enjoy the story more. He knew exactly what he wanted and went after it. He didn't take "no" for an answer when it came to Ava. He was super possessive, protective and a bit controlling (in a good way).
I would have liked to see some interaction between the two before they started dating instead of the author telling the reader they were attracted to each other before they finally made the move to be together. Also a peek into their past would have helped me understand Logan's possessiveness a little more. I needed to know why these two needed each other so much, what was it about each other that made it impossible to be apart.
One other thing that drove me nuts was improper formatting. Logan's dialogue was with Ava's thoughts and vice versa, so it was hard to distinguish at times who was speaking.
Overall, this was a good book with a hero that made the story but it could have been better.
Goodread This book has a lot going for it. It has a lot of emotion, some good and other not so good. But as with life it is the same way. Not sure if the author is trying to describe how an abused person not just we on but men also, ( because there is a lot of different way you can anyway.) I think this is a good job at the book I hope there will be some background information on them. (It would help) any hoo it is a really good book. I received a free copy of the book for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was not overly romantic, and the intimate scenes were just enough to keep me from skipping over them altogether. The main characters were well-defined, and you felt for the both of them with all of their hang-ups. The ancillary characters were great too. You either really liked them or wished they would go away. Once again, it was a great book that I finished in one sitting and have already recommended to friends.
Ava wasn't worth chasing. What did he fall in love with? I wish yall would write black women with some joy, self loathing isn't a personality trait. Nobody can fall in love with wall. She didn't have layers. She wasn't funny, interesting or warm. She was almost childlike to the point it bordered on creepy. She was boring & sad for most of the book. There has to be a way to write about trauma with making that their entire personality.
First of all, Logan was a little INTENSE (cray cray?). He locked onto Ava like a fly on sh-uhh-honey. Ava started out as THE damsel in distress but she eventually developed a great little backbone! They characters were great together and set the stage for other books with their friends and family. Nice read!
in spite of Logan's wariness of committed relationships, and Ava's fear of intimacy, they fall in love and. find their happy-ever-after. A really sweet story of second chances. This book was given to me by eBook Discovery in return for an honest review.
Ava and Logan story is about two damaged adults from prior abusive relationships. Both have strong issues of mistrust Yet a Strong chemistry pulling them to each other. A nice read without all the profanity and with some humor.
I read this until the end, hopeful that it would get better. All the looping without any depth, baggage resolution or relationship process aka romance is just not for me.
When I started this book, I knew I would have problems with it. The actual story was OK...sort of...I mean...two broken people from different cultures finding love...It had potential.
One issue was with the pretentious feel of the writing. I'm not saying it should have been written in slang or anything. Maybe it was to give readers a feel for Logan's world. Whatever the reason, I didn't care for it.
Another issue was with the length of the book. It seemed really long, but it didn't really say anything. It was verbose (or "wordy" for the unpretentious among us). The story just kept repeating the same things over and over again.
And what did the story repeat (my issue #3)? Ava had a troubling past. Logan had a troubling past. Neither Ava nor Logan was open or honest about their pasts...even though the aftereffects of said pasts intruded on their present relationship. Rinse and repeat...several times.
On top of this, I thought Logan was a narcissist possessive jerk who treated Ava like property. I'm not sure if it was a reflection on her abusive past, but for some reason Ava thought this possessive intensity was what women dream of. I can only speak for myself...not this woman.
Add in all the typos (like using base instead of bass, and wale instead wail...who proofed this?) and some oddly written sentences (like "She was no longer chasing Ava." Nice try on incorporating the title, but it doesn't make sense.) and...yeah...2 stars may be generous.
I can appreciate the "c.osed door" intimacy and the lack of profanity, though. Maybe we can bump it up to 2.5 stars.
I'd love to know the other women's stories--Lina, Rebecca, andJanna--but I don't know if I can deal with this writing style in more books.
In chasing Ava, we start out with her in a hotel, outside of a ballroom. What is she doing there? What kind of an event is going on? We meet Ava's best friend Lina. What do we find out about Amy? Who are Darwin and Logan? Who is Randall and what happens at the gala? Who comes to Ava's rescue without knowing it is a rescue, or does he? What does Ava think about her co-workers? How does her past with a man named Marcus define her? What happened in that relationship? This book is all about second-chances at finding yourself, and finding love. You need to read to see what happens, but I am very excited to get to read the next book in this series right after this. It was a great story. I needed tissues during parts of it, it truly touched me in some places and made my heart break at others. Happy reading!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
Ok so honestly I’m new to Siera London. I discovered her through the Lunchtime Chronicles and now I’ve moved on to her novels and this is a decision I will NEVER regret. Ava and Logan, I didn’t know what to expect from these two. The chemistry is in your face from the beginning. I fell in love with how protective and possessive he is over her. It’s not in a cringey way either. Mrs London establishes this so beautifully. Ava’s internal struggles are so profound and Mrs London handles this with so much care. I appreciate how much was put into Ava’s development. This journey was lovely and I can’t wait to dive into more. Just based on this book alone, if Logan is any indication of the kind of alphas I can look forward to reading about from her, then I’m in good hands.
