Breathing Fire is the true story of author Christine Davis, best-selling writer of five magical books for animal lovers, who found herself miraculously catapulted into the mythical land of Camelot through the television show, Merlin. Prince Arthur, the future King, was waiting to awaken her from a spell. A victim of childhood abuse, Chris was raised to believe she had little importance and was undeserving of the love and joy the Universe was offering. It was time for the spell to be broken and the prince knew he would be needed. A sword named Clarity waited in a misty wood, ready to return to the author’s hand. A bridge through time and space appeared out of nowhere, joining a faraway kingdom to a quiet home in Portland, Oregon. Dragon fire lit the starry skies. Thus began a most extraordinary night.
A throughly captivating book. It's not often that I call a book a "Must Read," but that is the case with "Breathing Fire." Christine Davis has written a deeply moving book that is beyond memoir. In many ways it will give courage to women to empower themselves, to see how destructive bottled-up rage can be - not to others but to oneself. "Breathing Fire," is not just a book for women but for teenaged girls as well. The writing is lyrical and the message is important.
Christine Davis is known for books to give to someone who has lost a pet, as they comfort, heal and inspire. But Breathing Fire is designed to heal yourself, and will inspire anyone who has suffered abuse of any type.
Davis is a survivor of terrible child abuse, burying this as she took charge of her life (or so she thought), creating a successful writing career, as she cared for pets and friends. But her 20-year marriage failed, she suffered from debilitating spinal pain, and knew something was very wrong. She says she felt "like a flower that had been given just enough water to stay upright, but not enough to flourish.”
This is a true story of being rescued from her inner demons, conquering her fear and transcending her difficult past. In the process, she explores and explains how our brains can access deep recesses and use myth and magic to heal.
Among the great quotes in this book is one from Albert Einstein: “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”
This is a book to cherish for yourself, and give to treasured friends.
Christine Davis, who had survived childhood abuse at the hands of her father, was watching a TV show called Merlin one day when a miraculous epiphany occurred that transformed her life and gave her clarity in a way she couldn’t have imagined. And I don’t use the word “miraculous” lightly; this is an enlightening and amazing story.
Beautifully written, Breathing Fire is a thought-provoking, uplifting, and empowering book that describes how an abused young girl who felt unworthy grew into a woman who felt the same way, down to the baggy, shapeless clothing she wore. Then everything changed—in a very extraordinary way. I can’t recommend this book highly enough, especially for people (women or men) who have lost or never had the gift of self-esteem for any reason at all.
Without being preachy, Christine Davis helps the reader learn how to create a new reality. This is a very special read.
