This book is fast, intense, and feels like chaos barely being held together—and that’s exactly what makes it fun.
Berserkers throws you into a world where certain people can lose control and turn into something dangerous, something almost unstoppable. The story follows a group of teens caught in the middle of it all, trying to survive, understand what’s happening, and figure out who they can trust before things spiral even further.
What stands out most is the pacing. This book moves. There’s very little downtime, and it keeps throwing new conflicts, reveals, and action at you, which makes it super easy to binge. If you like stories that get straight into the tension and don’t let up, this definitely delivers.
The concept itself is really interesting—blending action, a bit of sci-fi, and that “losing control” element that adds a layer of unpredictability. The idea of people becoming something more dangerous than human creates constant stakes, because you never fully know when things might go wrong.
Character-wise, this leans more on group dynamics than deep individual development. The relationships between the teens add emotion to the story, even if some characters could’ve been explored a bit more. Still, the interactions feel real enough to keep you invested.
If I had to critique anything, it’s that the speed can sometimes work against it. Because everything moves so quickly, certain moments don’t always get the depth they could’ve had, and a few plot points can feel a bit rushed or convenient.
Overall, this is a high-energy, action-driven read that’s more about adrenaline and momentum than slow, detailed storytelling.

The quirkiness in this novel works. I found myself giggling several times out loud. I will have many students to recommend it to. I liked how it immerses the reader in the culture and geography of Minnesota and I can feel the love the author has for that state. And for "The Goonies." Dolly is a force to be reckoned with. Before reading this book I had no idea what a hotdish even was and now I want to be part of the Hotdish gang and remember to get out of the tent!

July 20, 2026This was a fun adventure. Im not rating because I need a kids opinion first.
The adventure, the characters, the descriptions-top notch.
The breaking of the 4th wall and the historical backstories would happen right in the middle of my interest. I began to find that I didn’t enjoy those parts because wanted the story to keep moving. I realize that it was needed but it happened often and in my opinion too many times.
Still, would recommend.
