The Birch Valley #3

Happy Little Accidents: A Step-Siblings Cosy & Spicy One-Sided Hate to Love Romcom

Rate this book
Wrong place, wrong time is starting to feel like this year’s catch phrase, because the only place I ever seem to be lately is the wrong place at the worst time. Like that time I accidentally ended up sleeping with my monster of a step-brother.

Even though I promised my mom that I’d get along better with Todd, now it doesn’t look like it’ll ever happen. But we’re both grown ups, and I’m only here for a month. Surely I can pretend to stand him for that long.

Then I lose my job, and my step-father offers me a temporary position that could save my flagging career. Todd and I are not only forced to live together, we’re forced to work together.

Along the way, I find myself getting to know the real man beneath the facade of the spoiled, angry playboy I remember from high school. That boy wouldn’t leave silly little notes for me, plan something deeply personal for a birthday I didn’t even think he’d remember, and end up taking up way too much space in my thoughts–and then my bed.

But I can’t be falling for the one person I used to insist I hate, can I?

Happy Little Accidents is a cosy and spicy, low-conflict and lighthearted romantic comedy, perfect for fans of Stephanie Archer, Daisy Thorne, and Meg Riley.

Happy Little Accidents ARC
By @sunnywritesandstuff
On our return to Birch Valley we meet Jude and Todd
This is there story ❤️
Chapter one is title “Don’t judge me, please” and as appropriately as its title, Chapter one starts with questionable decisions, those that involve alcohol, copious amounts of alcohol, a let loose tipsy night, on the prowl for distractions, sans contact lenses, (she lost them in the sweaty dancing process) Jude is letting loose, trying to blow of that dreaded anticipation of a month with her step monster of a stepbrother (no blood relation, just Jude’s married mom to Todd’s dad when they were teenagers, Todd was truly beastly to Jude until she moved out, like beastly, maybe wolf-ish, the Big, Bad Wolf) back home in Birch Valley, so Jude sans contacts(remember) and inhibitions, meets just what she needs to cure her s*x crankiness, from what she can tell, he’s hot, tall and just her type…
So she jumps all in for the hottest night of her life, but come first morning light she realizes her hot hookup was none other than TODD, her monster of a stepbrother, ahhhh!!!!
Now these two are forced to coexist, figure out the weirdness of an already weird relationship and fall in love or just both stay alive…Maybe 🤔
You have to read to see!
And I highly recommend, very highly!!! Top shelf !!!

Tropes
Step siblings
Forced proximity
He falls first
He’s got lots to redeem for
Nicknames (little pig 🐽 and the big, bad wolf 🐺)
Continuation of series (book three)

I give this one all the sweet strawberry birthday waffles 🧇 🍓 🎁
Todd and Jude are my favorite couple of Birch Valley so far, and I just adored my return trip 🇨🇦
Available on June 9, 2026 and like a quick ice dip in the lake, let this one thaw that winter ice and cosy up your heart ❤️

Jude, who’s visiting her mum and stepdad’s place for a month, meets a cute guy at a party, spends the night with him, only to discover later on from her friends who he really was. The one guy she dreaded meeting again after all these years. Seven years, to be exact.

Todd, living with his dad and stepmom, has been through a journey of self-discovery since he was diagnosed with AuDHD in his mid-teens, and prior to the diagnosis, he was coping in some questionable ways. Some of them led to him and his step-sister not having any kind of relationship before she went off to college. In fact, she couldn’t stand him.

Now, they have to make it work while living under the same roof. But seven years is a long time…

Wholesome story, good communication, low angst, good banter between the mc’s, natural storyline - their story didn’t feel rushed or forced, but completely natural.

Really good representation of living with AuDHD. I felt so seen! Todd was describing everything I’ve ever struggled with so perfectly. He’s so strong and really good at communicating what he needs and has been through a lot of self-reflection and self-development/discovery. The way they can read and understand each other’s body language early on is such a lovely touch to the story.

Happy Little Accidents is a cozy, addictive read that had me hooked from the start—I genuinely couldn’t put it down.

The story follows Jude, who returns to town and ends up in a complicated situation with her step-brother, Todd. What starts as an accidental hookup turns into forced proximity when they’re pushed to live and work together.

I really enjoyed Jude and Todd’s story. Their chemistry was undeniable, and the banter between them was fun and engaging. The romance builds from instant heat into a more developed slow burn, which worked really well for their story. The spice was present but never overshadowed the emotional connection or character growth.

The AUdHD representation was handled with care, and I really appreciated how naturally it was woven into the story without feeling forced or performative.

This was a really enjoyable read overall, and I’d definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a lighthearted romance with tension, humor, and heart.

Thank you to Sunny Del Williams for the ARC.

Okay - I am going to preface this with the fact that I typically don't enjoy the step-sibling trope, having grown up in households with step-siblings. However, I appreciate that the author makes it very clear that they did not grow up together, and actually spent very little time living together.

NOW! I love a man who yearns, and yearn Todd does. He's had a crush on Jude since he was younger, and it never really went away. Seeing how Jude and Todd navigate getting to know each other now that both are older and more mature was very sweet. The portrayal of Todd and his AuDHD was very representative of how my relationship with someone who is AuDHD was. It was an excellent portrayal, and I love the representation of the people around Todd and Jude also.

I definitely recommend giving this a read if you enjoy the tropes in this book!

Happy Little Accidents is such a great, cozy romance read!! I always enjoy reading books from Sunny!

Jude the FMC is back home for a little vacation and decides to let loose, go to party, maybe meet a cute guy....

She definitely met a cute guy, she hits it off with him, they have great chemistry, little does she know it's her step brother! (They were not raised together, their parents married later on in life).

Todd wants to make things right, he knows he was kind of an ass hole when their parents got together, he always had had a crush on her.

Jude ends up getting to know the real Todd, the one who's gentle and kind. I really enjoyed reading their love story unfolds! This was such a good read!

Birch Valley: Todd and Jude

Jude is back in town, and accidentally hooks up with her stepbrother, whom she remembers as a snotty-nosed, spoiled teenager whom she was happy to never see again… whoops!

This is such an awkward trope to define.
Unrequited on his side, enemies on hers. Off-limits, step-siblings, small-town…
A secret(ish) relationship, AuDHD rep, second chance and new beginnings.

Tensions, chemistry… whatever you want to call it, they had it in spades. It was a little spicy, and the reveal… well, that was mortifying (and hilarious).

Such a good read!

I simply couldn't put this book down, every chapter had me completely hooked. The story isn't afraid to tackle relevant and contemporary topics, such as AUDHD, which added depth and authenticity to the narrative. The characters were incredibly engaging, and the chemistry between the two main characters was undeniable. Their connection, combined with the perfect amount of spice, made their relationship captivating and enjoyable to follow from beginning to end.
