I didn’t have high hopes for this going in but somehow, it still let me down. Let me say this honest, this is the worst book I’ve ever read and that’s not content based, it’s because I have no idea wtf happened in this book. We started off solid with a cozy cat cafe and a random orc who rescued a kitten. Mind you, the FMC (who is a major bitch) rescued a kitten in the first few pages and named the cat urchin but please forget urchin because this is the last you will hear of her. The orc shows up with another kitten who he names pebble. Pebble is a female through 50% of the book then turned into a male and then an it and then no longer has a name but just the kitten. The other cats in the cafe disappear too but it’s fine because so do their main customers, Nora and Gumbo… don’t grow attached, you won’t see them again until the last page. So, the orc has low self esteem and this chick doesn’t make it better, she’s a total ass. The cozy small town is being taken over by a hostile developer, Marcus Vance (male developer) but then transitions into Janelle, his assistant but she also has an assistant so the assistant to the assistant - it doesn’t matter, he doesn’t have a name… Janelle disappears, I guess she was fired for being a moron. The FMC, Maris, has a bestfriend named Sienna but apparently her name changes to Renna- look idk? I said don’t grow attached to these characters. So, Grath, the MMC, owns a place but then doesn’t own a place, but owns a place again but then doesn’t because Maris asks him to move in next door to the cafe, because she owns that building too and he can live there alone, AS SHES ASKING HIM TO MARRY HER - but not a real marriage because it was performed by the kitten (no we don’t know which one) & all is well at the end because the town has a Pride festival for all inclusivity 🤔 Gumbo and Nora are back, there are flower crowns and Grath; the clumsy Orc owns a delivery business for people’s fragile deliveries.

Bruh. What in the actual fuck happened…

MARIS runs a cafe is the barista. She also takes in stray cats. Then she receives a crate with a tiny hurt kitten in it. She continues her day until an orc comes in with a crate. Within is another kitten. She takes it.
Grath is an orc and found a kitten under his porch. He takes it to the cafe.
Later Maris finds that someone took a video and posted it.
Then the danger comes from a business man who wants to "upgrade" the waterfront. The fight begins one side working to get what they want the other protecting what they have. And within that structure two hearts slowly move towards each other. Will things work out? An orc who big and clumsy and a human female who is dainty and caring.
A beautiful story of two different beings who find common ground.

“Purr for the Orc” is an unexpectedly charming romance that combines cozy café life with fantasy, creating a comfortable yet original experience. The story begins in a cat café, where Maris, the practical and compassionate owner, is introduced through her daily routines, establishing a warm, relatable atmosphere.

The arrival of Grath, the orc, shifts the story's tone. He is depicted as a nuanced character—quiet and unexpectedly gentle—especially in his interactions with kittens, where he patiently earns their trust. This emotional weight makes the growing romantic tension feel authentic. The chemistry between Maris and Grath unfolds naturally through glances and acts of care, without grand declarations, providing believable development.

The novel excels in contrasting themes: softness versus strength and domestic calm versus external conflict. The café serves as a safe haven, while the outside world brings stakes related to displacement and community survival, particularly highlighted in the town hall scene about neighbourhood development.

Stylistically, the writing is clear and inviting, punctuated by humour and genuine tenderness. The alternating perspectives of Maris and Grath enrich the story, allowing readers to understand their emotional complexities. Grath’s internal experiences, including his awkwardness and attempts at kindness, add depth to his character.

Overall, “Purr for the Orc” is a delightful, emotionally grounded story that appeals to readers who enjoy cozy settings, slow-burn romance, and thoughtful character development, while balancing sweetness and tension to maintain engagement.

Try it.

Adorable Dumpster Fire

This was very cute and had a good plot but it needs HEAVY editing.

It was like a different person wrote each chapter; like the author knew the gist of the story but kept getting details wrong. Pebble kept switching genders until, in the last few chapters, they gave up and just referred to him/her as an “it” or “the kitten.” The assistant also changed genders halfway through unless it was a totally different character in which case, what happened to the woman?

Also, characters such as urchin and her friend from the beginning just disappeared and other people suddenly appeared with no introduction.

Several scenes repeated with almost the same wording and other things were mentioned that never happened.

I suspect it was written, at least in part, by AI because there were so many errors and inconsistencies.

Overall, it was cute and I’d probably give it 4 or 4.5 stars if it didn’t have so many errors but, as it is, I can’t give it better than 3 stars. And, honestly, that is me being generous.

I was really enjoying the book until chapter 9, I'm not sure what happened. From chapter 9 on the book had a lot of inconsistencies and was all over the place. I enjoyed the storyline until then but the last few chapters really ruined it for me. I was going to give it 2 stars but gave it 3 because I did enjoy the first part. With some editing to fix the last few chapters it would be a really enjoyable read.

The author has given us a heart pounding story that pulls us into the lives of Maris, Grath and a tiny gray kitten. The heartwarming story keeps us turning the pages with connection, fears, insecurities, a vile developer, a community standing together and steam.

Awwwww, I fell In love with this story so fast! This was so cute, so fun. I giggled at Grath. He was so freaking cute. And Maris rescuing the kittens, and apparently an orc lol. I loved the suspense green the developers, the way these two connected. And of course that steam between them. Such a great story to read. I enjoyed it so much.

I liked it but….

I did not like that there were 20 pages or more of filler to get through a scene.
I would have been happier with a shorter book telling the story.

A good book to relax with.

I read this book and enjoyed how kittens and cats were part of the story. The story had a lot of feeling and touched me.

Started super cute giving “Legends and Lattes” vibes but got super repetitive by 50%. Lot of small holes and details missing but easily forgotten about with how whiny the characters are 🤣
