Falling Europa: Book 13 of the Blitzkrieg Alternate Series

Rate this book
The Second World War, by February 1947, is drawing to its final stages. Japan has already surrendered, and the Third Reich is struggling simply to survive as Allied forces press in from every direction. In the west, the Western Allies advance through France toward Germany, while in the east, the Soviet armies drive forward from the Balkans, Poland, and East Prussia. At the same time, several large German formations remain cut off from the Reich. Isolated pockets of troops continue to fight in Finland, the Middle East, and Anatolia, resisting stubbornly despite their increasingly desperate situation.

The war has also entered a new and frightening phase. The United States has already used atomic weapons, first against Japan at Hiroshima and later against Germany at Wilhelmshaven. Meanwhile, both the Soviet Union and Germany are attempting to develop similar weapons of their own, exploring dangerous and unconventional ways to produce such explosions.

Even as the war nears its end, the Soviet Union is already maneuvering for the postwar world. Soviet forces have invaded Manchuria despite Japan’s surrender, while Moscow has presented its Western Allies with demands for peace in Europe that are impossible to accept. Among these demands are Soviet control over all of Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Germany, Austria, and even parts of France and Italy.

Although the remaining duration of the Second World War is now measured in months, perhaps even weeks, the shadow of another conflict is already appearing. The struggle that defeated the Axis powers may soon give way to a new confrontation between the Western democracies, the remnants of Japanese imperial power, and the growing colossus of Stalin’s Soviet Union.

This is the story of the final moments of the war and the uncertain beginning of what might come next.

Brilliant final book

Brilliant ending to this series, couldn’t read it quick enough. Leaves lots of unanswered questions and sets you up nicely for the next series. Can’t wait for WW3!
