Confessions of a Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman #55

The Hitwoman and the Pro Bono Job

Rate this book
Maggie Lee may be a hot mess with a dysfunctional family, a mad menagerie, and a deadly side hustle, but she’s got standards. She’s got rules. She only kills bad people.

But what if a good person wants to be killed for the very best reason? Can she do it? Should she?
While she wrestles with the toughest dilemma of her assassin life (and gets the unsolicited opinions of all her animals) she’s also stuck doing endless interviews and figuring out what her almost brother-in-law is up to.

Nothing in life is free and if Maggie isn’t careful, she could end up paying the ultimate price.

Maggie is tasked with joining a gym to find out why Doc is suddenly buying a chain of gyms when he has no income. Hilarious results as Mags isn't exactly in shape. She's also on the fast track to finding "justice" for Buddy when all of her friends and the mobster warn her away. Also, the first date with Nat. Engaging and the ending with the serial killer was hilarious. Looking forward to the next one

Another caper in Maggie Lee's so unconventional life! Her sister Marlene's partner Doc is buying some successful gyms, and it raises suspicion for Griswald and Maggie. Soon Maggie is working out (miserable and undercover) at the gym, trying to find out what is really going on. Then she's assigned a teaching class for her nieces-to volunteer at the animal shelter. And off we go into the latest book in this delightful series.
Fast paced, chaos and confusion, plenty of animal support, and never enough Nat Hunting, the story unfolds with so many sudden surprises. I love this series, and the menagerie (humans and animals) that make this series unique. Already I'm inpatient for Book 56 and more Maggie!

I swear I get so angry with Maggie and her family. I know that’s dumb since the characters aren’t real, but I can’t help it. No one can survive without her. Why, they’d all fall apart and cease to be able to get anything done if she were out of commission, like in a coma.

I’m glad things are going well with Nat and I hope sure doesn’t mess it up with him. I mean, who else is strong enough (and dumb enough in love) to put up with her and her chaotic family?!

Next is The Hitwoman and the Rookie, released July 16, 2026. That’s less than a month!

See you in my next book thoughts review.
Deuces to your cabooses! ✨👌🏼✨

a light, fast, and funny installment in J.B. Lynn’s long‑running series. Maggie once again finds herself doing a “simple favor” that spirals into danger, chaos, and snappy banter. The charm comes from the blend of quirky characters, quick pacing, and Maggie’s heartfelt but hilariously offbeat approach to solving problems. It’s an easy, entertaining read that delivers exactly what fans expect: humor, heart, and a dash of trouble.

Have always loved these books

But I can't read about a dead and abused dog. Especially when I have a golden retriever/doodle mix. What were you thinking? I skipped most of the book to read the ending. Not a fun read.

Hit Woman Pro Bono

Agh! I wasn't ready for the book to end. Once again Maggie manages to keep peace in her disfunctional family while fighting for justice with her menagerie. Now to preorder the next book.

Fun to read but needs proof reading

I've read all the books so far in the series. This seemed a bit rushed. There were a lot of typos and Dee Dee's injuries in the car at the end weren't addressed,
The stories are always fun to read.

Justice for Buddy

I loved this episode in the Maggie Lee saga, so many little things with both animals and humans with laughter and sadness helping you enjoy the story. Only problem now is that I have to wait for the next book.

Great!!!

So exciting and I loved the ending. This is such a great series. When I first started reading this series I thought I'd get bored before I got to book 55. That is definitely not the case. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Justice is just enough

Justice is best served cold and fortunately Maggie has the best way of doing it. I don’t know whether she is lucky or just lucky enough to have an army to back her up. I mean with family like she has I am glad she does what she does.

I absolutely love this series.

Love everything about this series. Adding new characters (animals and people) I didn’t think I could keep up but the writing is so talented and makes each character unique, and unforgettable.
Thank you JB Lynn for sharing your talent.

Fantastic series!

I love the Hit woman series. It is a hilarious adventure start to finish. I'm complete invested in the lives of Maggie, her crew, family and friends. The storylines are as entertaining as the characters.

Was a very comfortable read, as expected. The reason I love The Hitwoman series. Everything got wrapped up a little too quickly for me in this one, though. I didn’t even get into a real climax of the story, turned the page and it was done.

Disappointed

I was very disappointed with this book. It didn't have the humor the other books had. The story line was slow and boring.

there are 2 types of people in this world…..

Those who love animals and those I have no use for.

This book really hit home. I cheered and cried at the end.

five stars

Maggie goes on a nice date with Nat. She talks with her mother and Dad. She gets justice for Buddy and she doesn’t need to kill anyone. But Justice is served.
Nice addition to the series.

Another fun caper in the Slightly Neurotic Hitwoman series. In this novel, Maggie mumbles across a wrong that she becomes obsessed with making right. This despite her mafia boss, her murder mentor, and her sort of boyfriend all asking her to stand down. Unfortunately, she draws the wrong kind of attention and ends up in over her head. This is a fun mystery that is filled with humor and talking animals. Fans of the genre will love it. While part of a series, this is a stand alone novel, however, it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. The author is on my must read authors ' list.

Maggie Lee is back juggling family chaos, talking animals (who definitely have opinions), and one ethical dilemma that turns everything upside down. Always funny, clever, and surprisingly heartfelt, this was another page-turner that left me wanting the next book immediately.
