TO HIDE OR BE HUNTED
Those are your only options.

The invite arrived on my desk boasting two things: exclusivity and anonymity. As an expert in the art field, and an expert at running from my past, those are two things I know intimately.

This wasn’t a typical private art experience. It was a place to unlock my darkest desires and in return, I’d satisfy that craving to let go—of my past, my trauma and all I’ve been holding in. The elicit encounter stirs up more than I expect, and it’s not just my past I can’t escape from. Even in my sleep the fingers of fear grip my throat.

I’m introduced to a man whose eyes hold the same traumatic shadows, leaving me desperate to know more.

When his business card ends up in my purse, I show up at his doorstep in need. Now, he’s everywhere I turn—the object of his obsession—and I can’t bring myself to mind my own boundaries. Boundaries I’ve put in place to keep myself safe.

ALIVE.

Except now my nightmares are escaping into reality. I can feel its eyes on me, pricking at my very skin. A lion’s been released from a cage, stalking its prey and waiting for the moment to pounce.

I became the prey. A small moment in time that raged into a full-blown obsession.

And it all began that night…

Fragile Obsession was a little different from my usual reads, but what an enjoyable change of pace!

I'm usually drawn to psychological thrillers, so diving into a dark romance with plenty of spice and suspense was something a little outside my comfort zone. I'm so glad I gave this one a go!

I was hooked from the beginning and really enjoyed getting to know Markus and Elara. Their chemistry was fantastic, and I loved watching their story unfold. There was a great balance of romance, tension and mystery, with some genuinely surprising moments that caught me completely off guard!

The story slowed a little in the middle, but I was still eager to see where everything was heading. I also found Elara's backstory particularly intriguing and would have happily read even more about it!

The ending was satisfying, and I finished the book feeling really pleased I'd stepped outside my usual genre.

Overall, an engaging, suspenseful and wonderfully spicy read! If you enjoy dark romance with a generous helping of mystery and unexpected twists, this is definitely one to add to your TBR.

Thank you to K. Jasperson for providing me with an advanced copy!

This is my first K. Jaspersen read, but will most definitely NOT be my last.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a fast-paced standalone set in a small town, with an FMC (Elara) who is an artist and an MMC (Markus) who is an ex-con but also a mechanic. And the shop scene?? HELLOOOO, yes please.

Of course, I cannot forget to mention Alcie, who is the best German Shepherd out there and stole my heart from the jump.

I loved the way Elara's trauma is expressed through her art, and how beautifully it was written. I felt as if I was in the studio viewing her art as I read it. I also really liked that instead of getting her story up front, it was pieced together throughout the story, which helped make the story more unpredictable.

Now for Markus, he is an obsessive, fuck around and find out kinda guy. But he is also a softie (of course, only for his girl and his dog). He gets a 10/10 for aftercare; I mean, he braids her hair for her, makes her breakfast, and well, I'll leave the rest for your imagination.

One thing I really liked about this book was the way it ended. It's an HEA, but not in the traditional sense. It's heavily implied, but again, not your average epilogue. Not at all what I was expecting, but it felt fitting for Elara and Markus.

I'll end with this: if this book is not on your TBR.. It should be.

ARC Reader. Mild BDSM and spice.
I love morally grey & flawed characters who have to live with the consequences of their choices, and Fragile Obsession is full of them, from the main characters to the supporting cast. K. Jaspersen starts in right away with a scenario that highlights Elara's strong personality and flexible moral outlook. Throughout the story you come to understand her motivations and why she engages in scenarios in a way that most folks would think "I would never!", yet secretly want to.
Jaspersen doesn't spoon feed you the reasons why Elara is the way she is. Instead, her history is revealed slowly throughout the book, explaining her outlook and approach to life and death through her own thoughts and actions. Honestly, the pacing of the story and the relationship wouldn't flow as smoothly without this slow, carefully revealed explanation.
I would have loved a little more of the same elaboration on the MMC's backstory as well. I'd totally read a sequel from his POV to learn more.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This is not only a Dark Romance, but it's also a slow Thriller with a real villain and a twisted implied HEA.

It was a no-brainer to put myself out there as a potential ARC reader for this story. The synopsis alone had me hooked.

The journey for Elara is not an easy one, and she is a complex FMC with a dark backstory. I love the layers crafted by K. Jaspersen and the slow reveal as you progress thru the story.

That invitation ... that event ... the damn alphabet *insert giggle* ... and finally that grab of her wrist while blindfolded. Yeah ... that was perfection.

The introduction of our MMC was also multi-tiered in a beautiful way. His history weaves thru this story in a twisted fashion that drew me into his orbit.

Elara & her art - perfect imagery!
Markus .... oh I don't do spoilers so just enjoy him.

Hold on to your seats for a final roller coaster ride to the conclusion, the culminating last few chapters (10%) will keep you on the edge of your couch turning pages to get to the end.

Overall, this read was a fresh story in the dark romance/thriller genre with twists and turns, great characters with depth and drama, and the spice was spicin' !

Definitely recommend grabbing this book!

I absolutely loved this book. This story is one for the victims, for those who have been knocked down and found their way back up.

I really enjoyed K. Jaspersen’s writing. The way she described so many things in the book was beautiful, the spice and the everyday descriptions.

I was honestly back and forth with how I felt about Markus, with my trust in him. But he is 100% a touch her and die character.

Though unconventional, I loved how the book ended. It was very satisfying in my opinion and a happy ending.

Thank you to the author for allowing me the ARC! This will be recommended to people I know enjoy this genre!

I 100% recommend reading this story!! It is a thrilling and captivating small town love story ♥️🔪

As someone who is new to the dark romance world, I really enjoyed this story😆 The beginning alone was nothing short of intriguing and steamy!! While the book contains many steamy spicy moments, I do not believe the intimate moments are too wild. The real intensity lies behind the FMC’s attempt at escaping her tragic past mixed with the current eerie dangers in her life leading her to consistently question those around her, even the handsome ex-con mechanic who makes her world spin.

An interesting premise followed up with a rather twisted tale of love and loss. Betrayal comes in many forms at different times. Markus and Elara painted quite the picture. Though, Markus had his reasons for doing what he did, he dealt with the consequences of his decisions. Elara makes her way out of the complicated web of trauma in her own way. This book is a reminder that sometimes danger is homegrown and there are things that need to be weeded out.

ARC reader. A little bit smutty, a little bit thriller, not a HEA. Wow, that was an incredible read. I didn’t want it to end. Obsessed, protective MMC, artistic FMC with a tragic past who meet at an unusual party. From the dedication to the afterward you had a grip on me. I read this as an ARC but I’m buying a copy.

I must say I definitely did enjoy this read! The tension between Markus and Elara was magnetic and the plot twist I actually didn’t see coming! Alcie is a true star!
I do think the spice was a bit repetitive but the plot overshadowed that for me. Solid read! Thank you so much K. Jaspersen for the ARC read
