This was one of the few apocalyptic books that seemed realistic. With real people facing real horrific consequences. And prevailing! You need to have a sequel to this because we all have to know how Lindy did afterwards. And all of captive girls. ??
The story is very sneaky with lots of surprises. The saddest part was Hank. Triumphant over adversity with characters that had heart. A sequel would be nice. Please write fast. Thank you!
I could not put this book down….i cried and I smiled wishing I had the skills Lindy had. What she had taught her daughter was ridiculously amazing….the characters, the story….all so good. Unlike ANY apocalyptic story I’ve ever read. I would love to see this as a film with Helen Mirren portraying Lindy!
What a story! The story captured me. The style, the words without the endless use of adjectives. Without the turn by turn, street by street, styles that fill pages but do not make make for a good story. I hope the style is carried through in his other books.
The story teller did a great job of reflecting the thoughts and feelings of the characters. My only complaint was a lack of continuity in the details, e.g. a man shot in the head, later described as the chest.
I loved the suspense, fear of the unknown and resilience of family. The narrative captivates readers with its profound exploration of human emotions, weaving a compelling tapestry of psychological tension and familial strength. The story delves deep into the characters' inner landscapes, revealing their raw vulnerability as they navigate through uncertain and potentially threatening circumstances. Each family member demonstrates remarkable courage and resilience, transforming their collective fear into a powerful source of unity and determination. The underlying suspense creates an electrifying atmosphere, keeping readers on the edge of their seats while simultaneously highlighting the extraordinary bonds that connect family members during challenging times. Through intricate storytelling, the narrative showcases how love, trust, and shared experiences can help individuals overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, ultimately emerging stronger and more interconnected.
I was very impressed with the way this story was told! The river crossing had every emotion in my body involved ! What happened at the church was another part thst had me on yhe edge of my seat! I had to read this book twicr before I wrote my review because I enjoyed it so much! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU READ THIS BOOK!
I really enjoyed this book. Best book. I’ve read in weeks and I read a lot. The book was action packed. The characters were well written. I wish the book wasn’t over. I really enjoyed it.
This is such a wonderful story full of learning, life, hope and reality. I haven’t enjoyed a story so much for a long while. I’m so delighted to find the author has more books that I can read!
The writing style was well done. Kept me wanting more. I am a fast reader and was able to finish in a day. The characters were believable and there wasn’t the death gore as in other books. Enough excitement to make it entertaining, but not make my stomach queasy. Wish the was a part two!
I liked the dynamics of the three women. Three generations who fought for each other and their families. Strong central grandmother with the skills taught and used to reunit them through horrible conditions from EMP. I loved the book.
I liked everything about this book. The determination the cliff hangers the courage of two women and kids. The husband did ok too.lol This is the first time reading this author and loved it. Will be reading more.
Wow a page turner with emotions. 5 stars are not enough
This book was an emotional roller coaster! Chapter 102 almost broke me but the end was so gripping had to put it down until the tears stopped! Probably the best book I have read in years. Hard to put down hard to not think about. Thank you to the author.
This was a terrific book. I found myself racing to get to the next Chapter. This is the first I have read by this Author and will certainly not be the last. Loved the Family. Slainte. ☘️
Megan learned well from her mom … unfortunately, there were quite a few story duplicates because of it. There were also several inconsistencies. I hate it when that happens.
it’s been a long time since I read a book this good
The characters were great. They felt genuine. I loved that the heroine was an elderly woman. Some of the scenarios they found themselves in were too far fetched and I wish it had been a bit more realistic. I wanted more detail about the locked shed, the chickens, the supplies and some of those preparations. Great author. I hope I see more works like this one.
I have no words to equal my love of this guys writing. I blew me away. The wordage great but put together like I haven't seen before. The story gripped me till I nearly had to quit reading for awhile and recover. I will remember it for a long time.
A great story with genuine characters and a solid plot, but could use a better editor. Several minor mistakes and repetitions took away from the amazing storyline. Overall, I'd still recommend it as long as you're willing to overlook some editing mistakes.
Well written. Realistic. Scary. Courageous people and overwhelming odds. For a thrill ride this is your book. No proof-reading errors that take away from the story. Hard to put down book, if you are a fan of apocalypse scenarios.
When finished reading, the reader feels as if they have run a marathon! An EMP causes HORRIFYING incidents for a family separated by 80 miles of mountain terrain, trying desperately to be reunnited.
I loved this story of how a family copes and tries to get back together. Traveling by foot against the weather, mountains and human predators. I wish the was an epilogue to see how they made out a few months or a year later.
