To sum it up for my trope lovers:

Indie author in my villain origin story era. Morally gray FMC energy with a 'knife-to-the-throat' vibe and a “burn the world for the ones I love” devotion.

I'm now choosing sovereignty over compliance daily and I will not apologize for it or ask permission.

To my readers:

“Let them have their villain. I will be theirs and everyone else’s. But never for you.”
— Slade Ravinger

For those who enjoy diving deeper:

I’ll attempt to solidify some of the prominent experiences that contributed to the creation of this series:

Foundationally, I have formal education in the following: creative writing, screenplay writing, visual arts, philosophy, and political science.

Public exposure that has contributed: my experience in the music industry, experience as a professional screenplay writer and associate producer, a published author, and our favorite artistic ingredient: pain and suffering.

Internal world attribution: lineage-based tantra training, lineage-based shamanism guidance, traditional teacher training in Kundalini yoga, and lastly, I’ve landed in my home of Shaktism, with my beloved Kali Maa.

As you can imagine this catastrophic combination of experiences led to being: a full-blooded anarchist, painfully rebellious, a bleeding sensitive heart, magical af, reclusive, with a strong dose of feral.

And lastly, on a personal note: this series represents my coming into sovereignty and my liberation. I fought armies of inner demons to be here with you today.

I welcome you into my realm with open arms and heart offered freely. May you fall in love, may you cry, may you laugh, may your soul be reforged. May we taste unity and liberation for just a moment together as we co-create as reader and writer.

Heirs of the Shattered Veil: The First Scar by Celeanne Dorrington

Heirs of the Shattered Veil: The First Scar by Celeanne Dorrington is a dark and immersive fantasy novel that pulls readers into a fractured world filled with mystery, power, and hidden truths. From the very beginning, the story establishes a haunting tone, reflecting a kingdom shaped by conflict and long-buried secrets.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its world-building. Dorrington creates a layered and complex setting where the “Shattered Veil” feels like a central force—both literal and symbolic. It suggests a divide between worlds or realities, adding tension and intrigue as the story unfolds. The atmosphere is rich and often gothic, perfectly matching the ominous imagery suggested by the title and cover.

The characters are compelling and emotionally driven. Each one carries personal struggles that tie into the broader conflicts of the story. The idea of a “first scar” works effectively as both a physical and emotional concept, symbolizing the moments that shape the characters’ identities and destinies. While some character roles may feel familiar to fantasy readers, Dorrington adds depth through internal conflict and evolving relationships.

The writing style is descriptive and moody, helping to build a strong sense of place. At times, the pacing slows due to detailed world-building, but this also allows readers to fully absorb the complexity of the story. Readers who enjoy richly developed fantasy worlds will likely appreciate this approach.

**Review of Advanced Copy from the author. All opinions are my own**

"Love didn't save people. It just told the world where to aim and made damn sure you felt every blow you couldn't stop"

The Heirs of the Shattered Veil is one of the first dystopian-esque stories I've read, and I really enjoyed it. In this world, people are segregated by their soulmark: Luminar or Shadowmarked. The Luminar are given good jobs, while the Shadowmarked are banished to the mines.
Our FMC has a special gift, which she uses for good, and her journey is compelling from the very first page. The story takes off immediately and barely slows down, keeping my interest the whole way through. I did get a little confused at times, but that’s probably just me. Since this is a trilogy, I’m excited to see where book two goes, especially because I want to learn more about the MMC!

What a ride. Celeanne. Ma'am. I'm gonna need book 2 like yesterday. Why would you play with my emotions and heart like that? Amaria is a strong Fmc that isn't afraid to face her fears and grow. Serenya, her chosen sister, and best friend keeps Amaria grounded. Maxx, provides some comedic relief, and Dreadscale is f'ing hot. Brannick was a dang disappointment. I wish we'd have gotten to know Eryndor a little better, but I'm guessing we'll get more in the next book, because I refuse to believe...well no spoilers. I thought the magic system was fleshed out and easy to understand. At no point did this book drag for me. Zero pacing issues, I flew through this book in a day and a half. Thank you to Celeanne Dorrington for the gifted eARC in exchange for my honest review. I look forward to book two!!

To preface, I was an ARC reader for this book, but my opinion is that of my own.

WOW!!! I don’t say this lightly, but this is one of the BEST stories that I have read! I am gobsmacked with how much I enjoyed this book, as there hasn’t really been much for romance and no smut. That says a lot for someone who is a smutty romance lover! There have been some potential romances set up for the next book though, so I am hopeful!

Amaria is a badass, but there are so many strong characters: Serenya, Maxx, and Dreadscale (honestly hope some romance gets explored with him because he might be my favorite.)

In terms of writing, grammar, and spelling, I don’t believe that I came across any errors and if I did, they weren’t noticeable.

The story kept me engaged and the characters had depth. Amaria and Serenya were both strong characters, but not in a try-hard way. As a whole, this book was so different from other fantasy books that I’ve read and I loved every bit of it, except for the cliffhanger of an ending! With that said, I am on the edge of my seat to read book 2!

ARC REVIEW
OMG what did I just read?!?! I love this book so much! I can't wait to continue with this series! The banter was on point and amazing! And the characters!? The best characters! Maxx who will do anything to protect Serenya! Dreadscale? Yes please! Eryndor, we will see if you can redeem yourself if you survive. I love that Serenya has been by Amaria's side since they were kids. She keeps her together. Amaria, she is such an amazingly strong female who will do whatever it takes to protect the people she loves! I cannot get enough of this book!!

If Dan Abnett was born in an alternate universe where he loved a fantasy setting…you have The First Scar. It’s passionate. It’s gritty. It has the BEST one-liners and “OMG THAT CHARACTER” of anything I’ve read in a long, long time. Leave the frilly dresses and whiny “knights” to other authors - if you want pain, a freaking AMAZING magic system (which, ok, is a little confusing at times…but we’re early on in the journey) & character growth, as well as that often-forgotten character validation, this is your girl.

The FMC, Amaria, is…ok, she’s sometimes annoying. But she’s great. Her best friend is my favorite character, (“that girl slept like a cat; one eye open and an opinion already forming.”) 🤭 though a lot of people will pick the rogue-humor-wit dude, who feels like a real character with a true role rather than just filler. Maxx rocks. Amaria mostly sticks to her bad calls for good reasons, making her a sympathetic character that fleshes out very nicely through a book this length. Did I want to know more earlier? Yes. Was that a great hook that made me miss 2 days of gaming and 3 meals to finish it? Also, yes. 😉 This is one that will make you take a break to recover, in the best way.

The MMC - he’s…

“Not just an enforcer. Something deadlier, made for war, not spectacle. Coiled and commanding, like the whole square existed for his gaze and he knew it.
The air around him thinned.
I stilled, as any prey should before a predator. I didn’t know whether to bare my teeth or bare my throat.
It was threat laced with a tempting, lethal promise. A poison that would hurt me, and then make me beg for more.”

YES PLEASE 🥵 This is the best “the villain is hot” I’ve read in AGES. It’s highlighted in my kindle. With about a million other good quotes.

“The brooding type. Thinks ‘joy’ is a tactical error and wears his conscience like a corset.” 😆
“Healers drifting between them like ghosts who hadn’t realized they’d died yet. This is where hope came to get practical.”
“Cowards dress fear as doctrine.”
“You fight like someone who learned in an alley.” “YOU fight like someone who learned in a cage.”
“From the shadows, I watched a warrior stitch himself closed while everything he refused to let others carry bled out onto the floor around him.” 🖤

Warning - this is a slow burn. VERY SLOW BURN. Explanations of how things happened or how they work are a bit slow burn too - go with it, she’ll explain.

Add this one to your TBR RIGHT NOW and don’t let Maxx break your Kindle. You’re welcome. 🫶🏻

*~*~A MILLION thanks to the author for the ARC. I had a wonderful time and can’t wait to get back to Nhalivar. ~*~*

This is an honest review in exchange for receiving an ARC, and the opinions are those of my own.

This had me hooked from the first chapter! The world building was easy to follow and characters easy to ride along with. Strong FMC with her best friend at her side, side characters who are hilarious, broody, and someone we don’t know a whole lot about, but I hope we get more in book 2! The banter amongst characters kept it light-hearted at the worst of times. A very slow burn that I hope to see more of. It was a wild ride and I can’t wait to see how the story progresses!

ARC Review: Heirs of the Shattered Veil: The First Scar by Celeannne Dorrington
From the very first page, Heirs of the Shattered Veil: The First Scar pulls you into a fast-moving, immersive fantasy world that doesn’t let go. This ARC was an absolute rollercoaster—in the best way possible—and one I found myself flying through because there was always something happening just around the corner.
What really stood out to me was the constant sense of action and momentum. There’s very little downtime, yet the story never feels rushed. Instead, it builds a gripping rhythm that keeps you engaged while still giving space for the world and characters to shine.
Speaking of the world—this is where the book truly excels. The setting feels rich, original, and layered, but the real highlight is the magic system. It’s not just unique—it’s intriguing, with rules and consequences that add tension to every scene. The concept of being “dual marked” is especially compelling, and the fact that it’s seen as dangerous rather than powerful adds a fresh twist that raises the stakes immediately.
At the heart of the story is Amaria, a standout female protagonist who is as complex as she is compelling. Carrying both marks makes her a target, and with a bounty placed on her by the King, her journey is filled with danger at every turn. She’s strong without being invincible, and her struggle to understand and control her abilities makes her incredibly engaging to follow.
Her bond with her best friend Serenya is another highlight. Serenya’s unwavering loyalty adds emotional depth to the story, grounding the chaos and danger in something real and heartfelt.
Then there’s Eryndor, the male lead, who adds an intriguing layer of tension. As a tool of the King tasked with hunting Amaria, his role creates a constant push-and-pull dynamic. There are moments where their paths feel almost destined to cross—but whether he can be trusted is a question that lingers in the best possible way.
The supporting cast is just as memorable. Maxx, the witty and charming rebel, brings a spark of humor and charisma, while Dreadscale (my personal favorite!) adds a fascinating dynamic as he helps Amaria learn to control and wield her marks. Each character feels purposeful, contributing something meaningful to the story and hinting at even more to come.
And that ending…
Let’s just say I was not prepared. The cliffhanger hits hard and leaves you wanting more immediately.
Overall, this is a fantastic, high-energy fantasy filled with action, unique magic, and compelling characters. If you’re looking for a story that keeps you turning pages and delivers both excitement and intrigue, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

Blurb: The Heirs of the Shattered Veil trilogy

The day the Veil shattered, the world broke—and every soul was marked. Every fae now bears a soulmark. Luminar or Shadowmarked. Revered or enslaved.

But our fae heroine was born with both.

And he was forged to destroy her.

Some say their bond is prophecy.

Others call it a curse.

Either way—if it completes, it could end the war…

or end the realm.

I received this as an ARC.

Let me start by saying that this trilogy has a lot of potential.  There is a strong FMC, Amaria, which I absolutely love.  She has sass, can handle her own and doesn't trust anyone but a select few.  The MMC, Eryndor, is broody, secretive and difficult to like from the start.  But that's typical enemies to lovers.  What falls short for me is that I don't actually read enemies to lovers between the two.  In the beginning when he was hunting her, I could see the potential but not the rest.  The "relationship" seemed to pop up, I guess you could say.  But maybe book 2 will have what I am searching for.

The side characters are probably my favorite.  Having a strong girl best friend who is a ride or die is one of my favorites in a read. Serenya is a badass herself who compliments Amaria perfectly. She is the rational one while Amaria is stab first ask questions later.

I am confused a little about how Amaria's other relationships started.  Like Maxx, she knew him but that wasn't elaborated.  It was like we were just thrown into it.

I got her relationship with Dreadscale. She spent the time with him while teaching her to embrace both of her marks. I almost believe the way they act, that he could almost be the MMC.

The book is fast paced right from the start. I do like that about a book. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, not knowing what is coming next. Especially the betrayal at the end.

I really love the idea of the shadowmarked or luminar marked.  Its definitely different from anything else I've read. Having the FMC have both marks and trying to learn to embrace them both was a great party of the plot.  She not only had to face some of her past (which i hope we learn more of), but also trust others to help her.

All in all, the book is great but I wish it were more detailed about the marks, about the Veil itself, how Amaria knew the others (besides Serenya), and a better evolving relationship with Eryndor.

eARC review in exchange for a honest review. Thank you so much to Celeanne Dorrington for a copy of this book, and the amazing opportunity of being apart of this journey.

How do I even begin to explain how this book made me feel? This is the best book I have read for the year so far! A dark fantasy with a dystopian setting, It caught me from the first page. A unique magic system with marks on your skin that basically decide your fate. Not to mention the incredible world building, with what she did with the Veil. it made you feel part of it and just made everything feel so layered. The writing style was so easy to read and I honestly just couldn't get enough. I enjoyed the pacing of the book, being thrown into action and then getting to see our FMC deals with her inner struggles, and how she deals with everything happening to her. All she wants is to be left alone, and to be in control of her life and path, something most of us can relate to. I loved the bond between her and Serenya, surviving so much together and being so in sync with each other because of it.

An element I always love is when he has a nickname for her, and we are not disappointed. Not only does he have a nickname for her, but others have different ones for her also, each with their own special connection. How the relationship between our FMC and MMC was portrayed was perfect, I loved the connection, real emotions and the doubt, it just felt real. Don't even get me started on that ending, what was that??! I need book two now!

The only reason I'm not rating it 5 stars is because I would have liked some more backstory on both our FMC & MMC. Other than that I can't find anything I would have changed about this book.

From the very first five chapters, my heartbeat was racing due to the non-stop action. The more action, the faster I read. I remember holding my breath a lot and bracing myself before turning the page. By chapter 8, I cried. By chapter 9 I was laughing like a hyena.

My emotions were thoroughly twisted with highs and lows due to the banter, the struggles between our FMC and MMC, the betrayals, the cost of trust, and the peace that loneliness brought when it shouldn't. In this story, it's safer to be alone and lonely.

Midway to the end of this reading journey, I held on with the help of my snacks (cheese curls and kettle popcorn with Poppi soda). I was mentally engaged and was screaming at how cruel some of the scenes were as if the characters could hear me. I finished past midnight on a school night; surely woke up my household.

This book reads light vs dark trope - or is it? Enemies to allies, shadow magic, banter, a FMC who trusts no one but her best friend for good reason. She hates asking for help yet, her magic is drawn to the one that was sent to hunt her down and bring her to a cruel King.

Mostly fast paced read, written to ensure a sense of what everyone is fighting for and what the hidden agendas mean. For mature adult readers due to torture scenes that may cause triggers. Please read the triggers in the book before diving in.

Overall, I am committed! The ending is not the happy ending that you may like and rightfully so with a trilogy that is continuous in its' story and so I am looking forward to books 2 and 3. I already preordered the physical copies. I can't wait!

The First Scar completely swept me away from beginning to end. This story delivers everything I love in fantasy romance; fated mates, haunting prophecies, and a richly layered world filled with fae, dragons, and political tension that keeps you hooked.

Eryndor is the perfect morally gray MMC, bound to the king’s will yet constantly battling the weight of his choices. There’s a quiet intensity to him that makes every moment feel heavy with meaning. And Amaria? She is fiercely guarded, trusting no one, yet undeniably strong in a way that makes her impossible not to root for. Watching these two, both so deeply touch-starved, circle each other, resist, and ultimately connect was everything. Their emotional depth and vulnerability made their bond feel raw, real, and incredibly powerful.

The found family element adds so much warmth to the story, balancing out the darker themes beautifully. The side characters bring humor, heart, and that perfect dose of witty banter that keeps the story from ever feeling too heavy.

The world-building is immersive and thoughtfully crafted, pulling you deeper into a story filled with magic, danger, and destiny. Every layer feels intentional, setting up what promises to be an unforgettable trilogy.

With complex characters, undeniable chemistry, and an emotional core that hits hard, The First Scar is a stunning start to The Heirs of the Shattered Veil trilogy, and I absolutely cannot wait to see what comes next.

Thank you to the author for the ARC ❤️

I received an ARC and my review is based on my own personal opinions!

"Some scars stay hidden. Others demand to be seen." 👏 This hits hard!

Ready to literally jump into the thick of chaos? Then y'all need to look no further than this amazing book! You have action, sexy fae and tons of madness going on. I took half a star off due to wanting more background and maybe a little bit more normalcy for the first few chapters before we were set into survival mode! I'm extremely excited for this entire trilogy to be released so that I can binge read while ignoring the real world haha.

our MFC is a girl after my own heart lol and stomach! She's real, she's unapologetically herself and she just wants to live without all the damn chaos life has chosen for her.

"Some girls spent their sugar on kisses. I spent mine on buns. Safer that way." - Amaria

Her bestie is truly amazing and I'm jealous they have each other. Everyone should strive to be like Serenya!

"Sometimes... I could swear, the strongest medicine is a friend's faith in you."

❤️

our MMC is well, love him or hate him.... only you can decide, but he has a few special moments that make ya wanna swoon prettily for him ;)

He stopped. Squeezed my chin hard enough to bruise. "Let another male count your pulse," he whispered, "and I'll take it back. Beat by beat."

"I don't fear the end of the world, Amaria." He murmured. "I fear the end of you.

well hell..... excuse me I need a cold shower.

A world shaped by tyranny and a dual-marked fae at the core of an everchanging prophecy. Magic abundant and rage throughout.

Although most of that rage was admittedly my own.

Because what do you mean Kaelen goes unchecked for Ch17? How is Maxx still breathing without the aid of machinery after the stunt he pulled in Ch23? And Brannik? That man was everywhere I wanted someone else to be. Just seeing his name on the page was sending me into a spiral.

Give me more Dreadscale.

Give me more Crownforged.

Yes, more of Eryndor, an MMC that will hunt, taunt, and confidantly adore his target. Their trajectories intersect and in a matter of heartbeats, Amaria had slipped beneath his armour, between and beyond the layers of buried truths, and saw not the man, but the boy that they had broken. Chapter six was where the spark of anticipation was lit for me and I lived through each page awaiting his glorious return.

Give me less of Kaelen.

And far, far less of Brannik.

This book was running havoc on my feelings up until the very end but the justification to be had after struggling with seemingly undue aggression for so long made it so very worth it.

“I don't fear the end of the world, Amaria.” He murmured. “I fear the end of you.”

Note: The First Scar contains no spice. It lays the foundation, emphasizing the slow in Slow Burn. Then snuffs out the candle.

✨ ARC Review — The First Scar by Celeanne Dorrington ✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was completely hooked from the very first page. This story throws you straight into Amaria’s world—full of danger, prophecy, and the weight of powers she barely understands—and it never lets up.

Amaria is such a strong, guarded FMC, shaped by everything she’s been through, and watching her navigate her role in the fate of the Veil had me fully invested. The Shadowmarks and the idea of “salvation” that comes with a cost? SO intriguing. It adds this constant tension because her power is both a gift and a target on her back.

And Eryndor… the mystery, the bond, the tension 👀🔥 There’s definitely that enemies-to-lovers slow burn energy, but with layers of secrecy and emotional depth that keep you guessing. I’m still not over the dynamic between them.

The world-building is rich and immersive—fae, prophecy, found family, betrayal, and morally gray characters all woven together perfectly. I especially loved the Uncrowned and the sense of belonging Amaria starts to build there.

And that ending?! I did NOT see it coming. I genuinely had to sit there for a minute like… what just happened?!

If you love dark fantasy, fated connections, powerful heroines, and slow-burn tension, this is absolutely one to pick up. I will be counting down the days until book 2 because I NEED answers.

ARC for an honest review.

Where do I even start?
The novel starts a bit slower, really taking its time to build Amaria as a character. We get a deep look into her haunted past, her dual nature, and the fear she has of her own abilities and what her future might hold. It makes her struggles feel especially real and relatable, since self-doubt is something we all face at times.

Then everything shifts—fast. Chaos breaks loose, the pacing picks up, and we’re introduced to Eryndor. His entrance completely changes the story's energy. He brings intensity, mystery, and a strong contrast to Amaria, pushing both her character and the plot forward in really compelling ways.

The world-building unfolds naturally and never feels overwhelming, which I really appreciated. While the romance leans into an enemies-to-lovers trope and is definitely a slow burn, it doesn’t drag the story down at all. If anything, it adds tension and keeps you hooked. The plot itself is gripping, with enough twists and rising stakes to keep you turning pages.

Overall, this is a strong start to what feels like it’s going to be an addictive series. I’m really excited to see where things go next for Amaria and Eryndor—and I can’t wait to dive deeper into the world of Nhalivar.

Some girls spent their sugar on kisses. I spent mine on buns. Safer that way.

I first became aware of this series with the novella and world guide that was published before the upcoming trilogy that this book is the first of. Having read the novella and the world guide I became completely enamored with this world.

I came into this book riding the high of the novella and wanting more and the author absolutely delivered. Amaria as a FMC feels fresh, a black cat that is only soft for her best friend. The MMC is a welcomed addition to the romantasy pantheon, deliciously dark and crisp with his quips.

The rest of the character are well fleshed out and rounded and one strong aspect of this book is the BFF bond between Amaria and Serenya and how the two really anchor each other in the world.

The story building is fantastic and having read the world guide I came into the story knowing what to expect. Even if you read this book without having read the world guide, the author does a great job is explaining the world without the massive info dump that sometimes makes the first half of any good story driven Romantasy book sort of drag.

I'm sure the whole trilogy is going to be fantastic and I cannot wait for the rest.

Oh my gawd!!! Such a cinematic and full of feeling book! I'm spiraling and need the second book immediately!! Luckily when this releases it will be the full trilogy!! Heart crushed. Soul shattered! I fell in love with these characters and my heart is still reeling. I am crushed. Betrayed by some of these characters and wondering how I'm going to survive 2 more books! I absolutely loved it though! Amaria is such a damaged character that has been through so much. Her heart is guarded for sure but there's softness in there whether she likes it or not. I absolutely loved the relationship with her and Serenya! It was such a comfort. And i believe sassy Maxx has been dethroned though as much as I do love him still he is so cocky and funny but also just as damaged. Dreadscale is my favorite though! A Tall, dark, handsome and rugged man. 😍 A man of few words but He seems wise beyond anything anyone can comprehend and I need to know more about him! The whirlwind of emotions and action in this were god teir! I love when a books plot can surprise me! The visuals in this played in my head like a movie and i felt everything so real. The pain and heartache, the triumphs and the battles. It was everything!! i felt it all 🖤

Where do I even begin? I am still reeling from the couple of days of this wild, intense ride that I dont know where to start.

From the very first chapter you are sucked into an oppressive/dystopian fae world with a uniquely different take on magic. Marks on your skin determine if you are of the Luminar or Shadowmarked. The Veil is tearing between their realm and reality and the Luminar king placed blame on the shadowmarked. And so the war between dark and light was forged. Anyone born bearing a shadowmark is taken away to the Veil Mines, never to be seen or heard from again. And someone bearing both marks, one of Luminar and one of Shadowmark, unheard of until our FMC Amaria with a prophecy written to tell if she could heal the veil or destroy it. Hiding her shadowmark from the rest of the world, she finds herself running from not only the king's guards but her true self. Discover the lie within herself, master her dual power, discovering if she should trust her heart, all while trying to heal the Veil. Can she do what needs to be done?

MMC Eryndor AKA Crownforged, only adds to Amaria's confusion.

Trust is a fickle thing. Who will Amaria turn to in her desperation? The rebels that helped her get this far? Crownforged who is leashed by the king and sent to capture her?

Is anyone trustworthy?

This is a true enemies to lovers and SLOW BURN.
I received an ARC for my review and I seriously cant wait to read the rest!

I'm on the ARC team. When I tell you the level of joy when I got the email I was chosen? You should have been in my house. I declared on Thursday I was reading undisturbed on Saturday, everyone including distant family called to distract. I shut myself off from the world and became ABSORBED with this book. "No phones at the table mom" 'I'm your mother and I'm doing homework for an author'. Making dinner? Reading. Bedtime? Reading. Walking dogs? reading. At the pizza shop? Reading. OH. MY. GOD. She weaved such a great story and a creative world, I want to shout from the rooftops "READ THIS". Don't question me, I have teenagers, you listen to me and I'm telling you, read this. I highlighted this quote at the very beginning and it lived true through it all

"A flicker surged through me though—searing and hungry. Part of me wanted it. Let them try. Let it end in blood."

Thank you Celeanne for your beautiful story and let me tell you, I've already planned for my family to scatter and slumber party away from me when the rest of your trilogy drops. I might even be "too sick" to work until I've finished your work of art.

A tyrannical king. Rebellion steeped in blood. And a rising tide of feminine rage, coiled and ready to ignite.

The story reads like something etched in shadow—its magic system as beautiful as it is merciless. Every page feels deliberate. Laced with danger.

The void is not patient. It devours—slow, inevitable, creeping closer with every breath. And the prophecies do not promise salvation… only sacrifice.

Amaria is fury given form. Unyielding. Unbreakable. The kind of heroine who does not ask for permission to burn—she chooses to. She stands for the silenced, the broken, the ones who were never meant to rise… and does anyway.

Eryndor is Crownforged—crafted into obedience, loyalty etched into bone and marrow. A soldier to his core. But something fractures beneath the surface. Doubt. Truth. Something dangerous. And as those cracks spread, so does the question: is he a weapon still… or something far more unpredictable? And whose side is he really on?

Fast-paced and consuming, this story pulls you under from the very first page and does not let you breathe.

Because time is slipping. The void is closing in. And through it all, a slow, consuming dread takes hold.

Some destinies are written in ink.

Theirs feel carved in something far darker.

This is easily one of the best books I’ve read in a long time—I genuinely couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. From the very first chapter, the story grabs hold of you and refuses to let go. The fantasy world is incredibly immersive, rich with detail, and unlike anything I’ve come across before. It feels fresh, original, and completely absorbing.

And the characters—especially the supporting cast—are just as compelling as the main storyline. Maxx is the perfect comedic relief, the kind of loyal, sharp-witted friend everyone wishes they had. His banter with Serenia is an absolute highlight; their dynamic brings so much life and humor to the story, and their relationship feels natural and engaging.

Amaria’s connections with both Dreadscale and Eryndor? Intense doesn’t even begin to cover it. The chemistry, the tension—it all adds a layer of depth and intrigue that keeps you hooked.

And then there’s that ending. Completely heartbreaking. It leaves you reeling, full of questions, and desperately needing more. I’m already counting down the days until the next book—because I need answers!

Thank you to the author for an ARC of this book!

I thoroughly enjoyed the premise and truly wanted to give it a 3.5, but there were too many times I was left confused and things weren't explained. I feel there was a lack of world building for how nuanced some of the things were, lots of items specific to this world did not have a lot of context clues to pull from.

I also didn't quite feel the enemies to lovers come through quite as much as others in the ARC discord group felt.

The characters have interesting and unique dynamics but it's almost like these complex nuances to the characters were created before writing the book and characteristics were mentioned as fact and not really introduced to the reader so I was left wondering if I missed something earlier in the text.

I think if there was a little more time works building and exploring the unique items in this world it would flow much better.

I am intrigued and very hopeful that maybe things click into place in the final version or in book 2, so I will continue this series with high hopes as I do adore the idea for the plot behind this.

“I had spent my whole life hiding. Cloaks. Hoods. Dampening amulets. I had treated my own soul like a dirty secret, begging the world to forgive me for existing. And the world had bled anyway.”

Thank You to the author for the ARC of this book.

The strongest thing this book has is the incredible writing the author has done. Her way with words is a beauty to witness. It is quite a world we are stepping into in this fantasy novel and one that I am sure will fully develop through the trilogy.

The world building is developed, characters are stretched and opened for us to experience and our MFC is a true strong female character.

Even though this book fits well into the fantasy genre with some expected character types and storylines, it does create its own path and brings something new to the table.

It leans very heavily into fighting, war, trials in a sense and has a lot of action. I would say it reads more as an epic world fantasy which is so great to see. I look forward to continuing the series.

This book had me hooked right from the beginning and didn't let me go. You get the world building right along with the action and the story, which I appreciated. Sometimes fantasy books get so front loaded with the world building that you're nearly halfway through before you get to the meat of the story, but this book isn't like that. You get story as you learn the world, and I think it really worked.

What you get:

✅ Strong FMC

✅ Morally Gray MMC

✅ High-stakes

✅ Touch her and 💀, but NOT who you're expecting

✅ True enemies to...more (not lovers, but honesty probably something beyond that)

✅ No spice, but SO MUCH YEARNING AND ANGST

✅ Characters who aren't perfect but you root for them anyway

And lots I can't say without spoiling the story.

The book moves quickly, and I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters yet. It ends on a complete cliffhanger and I cannot wait to read book 2! I'm excited to learn more about the world and what happens next.

Thank you SO MUCH to Celeanne Dorrington for letting me be an ARC reader for your story!

no spoilers.

this book was gripping from the start. the magic system was unique. I did get a little confused in some parts. the mmc was okay. I feel like I didn't get enough from him and I was confused if he liked the fmc or not. it didn't feel forced but I didn't understand the jump in their weird relationship. the fmc was okay. her story was done right. I need more background on her and why she is so special. I assume that comes with the next book. I needed a little bit more from all the characters. I think book 2 will give me more background insights on how we got to where this book started. overall I think it was good. honestly towards the end I could have seen this being a stand alone book but I bet the story can get and will get better. excited to read that!

Overall, this wasn't the best thing I've ever read, and definitely wasn't the worst, far from it. It kept me entertained and was fast-paced in my opinion. maybe almost too fast paced for a multiple book series. I think we will get more plot which will lead to a great story.

This was unputdownable. I read it within 48 hrs. I loved every single character. Amaria is such a badass FMC. She is fierce, loyal, feisty, and no shrinking violet. I loved that she had to fight for what she has and is. Nothing comes easy for her or is figured out with no effort. I hate when everything just falls into place. Amaria earns it all. Loved the tension (all the kinds) between her and Eryndor. He's a perfect broody MMC. He doesn't play about Amaria and I loved reading about it.

All the side characters were great too. Serenya is so smart and such a great sidekick. She's quiet but fierce. She isn't afraid to be honest and will also cut you. Maxx is hilarious and so cute. Dreadscale is sublime. I loved every single second of him. And the villains are so awful and evil. They are terrible and sneaky and you will want them to die so painfully and slowly. I hated them so much.

This book was so much fun to read and I can not wait to read the next two. The cliffhanger was brutal so I can not wait to get my hands on the second book. I am well and truly wrecked.

*Advanced copy received from the author for an honest review*

I stayed up way too late to finish this in one sitting because I was hooked; the wait for book 2 is going to be a long one! Absolutely loved the book and wish I could binge the entire series in one shot because I’m that invested in the characters and their world.

The characters and their development, pacing of the story , writing style and the world building were all on point for me and I did truly enjoy every minute of my read. For me, this wasn’t predictable and that’s a delight - also why I had such a lack of respect for my alarm but I had to keep reading!

Our FMC is deliciously stabby and guarded - you learn some of why but I have a feeling there may be more to the story than we know even at the end of book 1. The magic/mark system is new from others in the same genre and it was interesting to see how the marks work not just for our FMC but others and dive deeper into what they can do.

I was fortunate enough to get an ARC of this book, and I'm SO. GLAD. I. DID. Because this was a wild ride and I couldn't put it down. The magic system, the characters, the tension between Amaria and Eryndor!

Amaria is a fierce fmc and I absolutely loved the layers to her. And the flashback to how she and Serenya became friends made me cackle, because of course two badass females would become best friends.

Also, the crownforged. Eryndor. I absolutely loved him. Mysterious, broody. But getting his POV in a couple chapters throughout the book really gave insight on who he was as a male.

This was a unique take on fae and the magic was unique as well. It did take me a little bit to really wrap my head around things, but once i did, i was hooked. I did notice a typo here and there (but doesn't take away from the storyline). AND THAT CLIFFHANGER. I need the next book. Like right now.
