Make You Mine

Rate this book
Make You Mine is PERFECT for fans of "Boys of Tommen Series", "the Addicted Series" and the "Off-Campus Series". It is the first book in a series of interconnected standalone novels that follow a group of college students through the ups and downs of life, love and pursuing their passions.
-
Summer has always been my chance to escape my hometown of Allister, Virginia. To forget about my obligations and just be free. At my mother’s childhood home on Lake Michigan, I get to just be Allie Hennings, the free-spirited, wise-cracking, part-time party girl. I’m not the coach’s perfect daughter here. I’m not the girl who always lives next to his players to “spy” on them for him. I’m just Allie.

So when my dad decides to take in a stray, one that I particularly can’t stand, summer has been ruined. Or has it?

Listen, I didn’t want to spend my summer vacation with my coach and his family, but it’s better than living with my roommate and his family or in the dorms. After my Mom decided to upend her entire life and move to Paris for a man, I’ve been left behind with no more than what is in my dorm room. But hey, I get to spend a summer on the beach, basking in the warmth, swimming in the lake. Sounds serene, right? Wrong. Because Allie will be there. Allie, as in the girl I’ve had intense feelings for since the moment I laid eyes on her at the meet the team event freshman year.

Summer is about to get complicated, isn’t it?

Make You Mine is a coach’s daughter/star player romance, with a lot of bickering, swoon-worthy moments, and enough drama to keep readers hooked until the very last page.

2.75 Stars ⭐️ ARC Read

I finished this book last month and it had its cute moments but I definitely enjoyed it more in the beginning. I know this book was written by a college student - and that's super cool and awesome - but in the nicest way possible, you could tell this book was written by a young person. It felt very Wattpad-like. Still a quick and light read.

I loved this book!

The setting put me in the summer mood. I love a good lake town too.

I loved Allie and Teddy. I just wanted to protect them at all costs. I also enjoyed the banter, laughing out loud often.

If you like he falls first, frenemies to lovers, and coaches daughter x star player.... you'll love this.

I couldn't stop reading and cannot wait for the next book. 🩵

I did generally really like this book I liked how both teddy and Allie were honestly so supportive of each other and have love for each other
But it did just take me a little bit to get into the book it felt like a slow start but also there felt like not much build up to there oh I've always liked you so it just felt slow but rushed at the same time it is a good book I think I needed a little more though

firstly, i just want to say a big thank you to kyle for gracing me with an arc. i love you so much and the amount of love and passion you put into this!!

where do i begin? enemies/frenemies to lovers is always a trope i eat up like it’s my favourite meal, and this book has quite literally become one of my favourites (with the uttermost unbiased opinion ever). allie and teddy. teddy and allie. oh how they made me giggle, gasp and stare at the same four walls in my bedroom over and over again. the way they navigate past their ‘disliking’ of each other and instead turn their relationship into one of trust and finding solace in overcoming past experiences is so admirable. i honestly can’t put it into words.
whilst reading this it made me wish allister was some place i could go to because every friendship and romance within the book as a whole felt so powerful and i just need a summer getaway!!

hands down, this is one of my favourites arcs i have ever read. and if you’ve not already, go and preorder!! you will be swooning and crying and everything in between. once again, thank you kyle for not only being an amazing friend but a creator of an amazing world!!

5 stars. Thanks so much KC for my very first ARC!! It feels even more special that it came from a friend.

Make You Mine is a perfect summer romance and with how cold this winter’s been, I recommend reading it as soon as it comes out in March to get summer started early.

If you like found family, characters who have a deep emotional romantic bond as well as they both individually have trauma but heal and grow from it together - this book will be perfect for you.

It’s a great balance between a fun and lighthearted summer read between two characters who banter a lot and go from dislike to love as well as lot of obstacles and difficulties that Allie and Teddy rely on each other to get through.

The pacing is perfect and you won’t want to put this book down because the characters feel so real and jump off the page and you are so invested in their story and their love for each other.

The side characters in the story are so likable and it’s easy to tell the love these friends have for each other.

Everyone should pre order Make You Mine because you want to be an early fan of KC Matthews on the start of what I’m very confident will be a successful journey as a writer!!

I can’t wait to post my full review after release day and I’m so excited for book 2: Told You Things!! 🩵💛

This was an ARC I received from the author and my first time reading anything from them. I loved the summer vibe, fremenies to lovers, coaches daughter and he falls first tropes.

Allie and her parents spend their summers in her mom’s hometown on Lake Michigan in order to escape life in Allister Virginia where she goes to college and her dad is the hockey coach. It’s her favorite time of the year because she gets to just be Allie. She’s not the coach’s daughter who lives next door to her dad’s players.

Teddy is the incredibly HOT hockey player living across the hall from his coaches daughter. He fell for her the moment he saw her at a meet the team night his freshman year. As everyone else is packing up to move out of the dorms for the summer he’s trying to find a place to stay. His mom has decided to move to Paris to be with her latest boyfriend. When Coach Hennings can’t find housing for him, Teddy goes to stay with his family.

When Teddy shows up at the house Allie is NOT happy. The last thing she wants is to spend her summer with the one person she can’t stand. What she hoped would be a summer of fun turns into a summer where Allie sees Teddy as someone she never knew and things she never expected to deal with.

Make you mine ! And not just for the summer.
I was an ARC reader for this fun summer into fall read! This is my own personal thought about this book.

Allie and teddy are the sweetest once you get to that part where it’s the I want you, need you can’t turn back now part. Leading up until that pivotal moment in their story they had so much banter, teasing and playfulness with one another it was so fun and will make you giddy.
He’s a player on the college team her dad coaches at the college they attend. So there’s that. Allie has a good family dynamic and teddy not so much. There is no place for him for teddy to call home during summer. the team’s hockey coach extends an invite for the summer to teddy and bam next thing you know they(Allie and teddy) are with each other day in day out over the summer!

Under it all there is current that brings them to one another. They have faults and truths to discover during the summer about one another and it brings them that much closer. There are few plot twist that will catch you off guard. And yes I personally feel it was slow burn but to each their own. And yes for all you wondering it is a bit steamy/ spicy at times.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of the book

A poorly written fanfic is the best way to describe this book. I wanted to finish, but had to DNF a little over halfway through.

There’s a surprising amount of typos (ranging from inconsistent punctuation where the author would sometimes capitalize “my Mom” or “my Dad” to run on sentences) considering the author must have had an editor look at it already. Besides the distraction of typos, the plot doesn’t make sense. Everything feels rushed. For example, 53 pages in and the main characters have already almost kissed twice, which is surprising considering that they get on each other’s nerves. It’s also confusing as to why Allie hates Teddy so much. Their relationship could have been a good enemies to lovers, but just felt blah. One moment they’re hating each other (though the reason WHY they “hate” each other is unclear) and the next, they’re dancing on each other half naked at a party.

SPOILER ALERT: Bringing the backstory of Allie’s brother seemed very random. I’m not saying it couldn’t have worked. But the way the author brought it up disrupted the flow of the story.

Wow, there was a lot packed into this one book!  When I started reading Make You Mine, I thought it was just a cute summer romance novel and then WHAM - It hits you with an emotional punch!

Allie and Teddy are frenemies at school but are forced to spend the summer together.  They are each working on heavy emotional issues and learn to rely on each other for help and support.  Teddy's vulnerability is endearing and opens Allie's heart to realize there is more to him than just a gorgeous hockey player.

Allie's parents are the true heroes in this book.  I love how open Allie is when she speaks with them about boys, school and her social life.  Allie's parents take Teddy in and make him feel like part of the family - something he has never really had.  Their warmth shines through this entire story.

Thank you to KC Matthews for letting me read Make You Mine as an ARC.  This was my first time reading this author, but it won't be the last.

First and foremost I have to thank KC for an early copy of the book and for trusting me enough to let me proofread it all.

I really enjoyed this book. KC has the talent to write a story from beginning to end without losing himself in all the stories (even tho it focuses on Teddy and Allison, we do see the other characters in it that have a probability to have their own book).
Let me tell you that certain plot elements made this book surreal and exciting. I was constantly on the look out, very interested in what was going to happen next. Each new moment and theme lived and surpassed my expectations! Teddy and Allison are adorable and Allison’s family is the most supportive and caring. Their love reaches everyone who passes through them!
And their friends… oh what a warming friend group!

Can’t wait for more and more of all these characters!

ARC Review : 📚🌳🎢🌊🏒🏫📝 The book revolves around Allie and Teddy, who are two college students who start off as frenemies who then have to see each other often because Teddy is staying at Allie and her family place for the summer because he doesn’t have a place to go. And because of that proximity, they got to spend more time together, where they got to know each other and discover sides of one another they never imagined existed, and because of that, their feelings changed from playful Enemies to a very passionate love. That later on becomes a source of strength as they navigate through their emotional scars from their past. And that's why their love is powerful and beautiful.

Make You Mine by K.C. was absolutely amazing! 💖 This book took me on a full roller coaster of emotions — from pure giddiness 🤭 to actual tears 😭.

If you love a he‑falls‑first 🫠, frenemies‑to‑lovers ✨, small‑town summer romance 🌻 with a dash of trauma bonding 💔, sharp banter 🔥, and of course the iconic coach’s daughter × star player dynamic 🏒… this one is so for you.

I devoured it and I’m still thinking about these characters 💭📚

4 stars. I absolutely loved this soft enemies to lovers but in fact they were in love with each other all along. If you want a good hearted, found family, small town, sports romance book this is it.

Allie and Teddy were so cute and refreshing to read about their story and finding comfort within each other. I can’t wait to continue this series.

Thank you to KC Matthews for an early copy of this book and allowing me to read all about Allie and Teddy.
