Rue Darrow is a newly made vampire, and she's alone in New Orleans, no boyfriend, no son, and no friends. All she sees is an eternity spent working at menial jobs just to pay the bills, hunting where it's safe, and holding onto the her flagging human emotions.
Then Rue saves the life of a man in a dark alley. Milo Beauron has reasons for letting Rue save him. He knows what she is, and he wants to hire her to get back what was stolen from him. What Rue didn't realize was that the attackers were demons, and they don't play fair.
Rue has been reborn into a dangerous world. There are those who will kill to keep their secrets and kill to control of a powerful weapon. Cut off from the people she holds dear, Rue doesn't know who to trust. She meets creatures of darkness both good and bad, including her old buddy Death. All she can do is follow her instincts, protect the weak, and stay alive.

I want to make this very clear - I have not been paid for this review. Why am I saying this? Because I am going to really pour the praise on this book. I love this book, I love the character Rue Darrow. This is how urban fantasy should be written, no padding by insta-love, gratuitous sex scenes or pathetic romances put ion just to make up the word count. This book is pure story from beginning to end. Finally a book where every page counts Rue Darrow is a great main character. At last a female character who doesn't act like a crushing schoolgirl every time she sees a guy. I love the way she wanders off into this little internal monologue (pay attention, Rue!) I do this myself. Other UF writers should read and learn from this book. If you think you don't like UF because of the above reasons READ THIS BOOK. Even if you have come to this review by mistake I urge you to READ THIS BOOK. Audrey Claire please keep writing Rue Darrow and hopefully your fellow authors will learn how to write UF
Liberty, that is "Libby" is now Rue Darrow. The link with her first love & sire is gone because Ian McClain is gone home to Ireland, not Scotland as originally told in the first series about Libby and her son. There are a lot more magical creatures about than Rue imagined. Shift being only one of them. He reminds her of Jake and gets caught up in his drama as well as a bit of her own. Moving on to yet another installment of the saga of Rue & Libby.
I loved this book. Great story. We'll written. But I would've like more background information on how it all started for the main character. That being said...I'm still looking forward to reading more by this author. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
