Rate this book
Seven wealthy boys, all only children, become "brothers" for life as they grow from pre-school through the Brunswick School in Greenwich into successful adults. However, one of them may have committed murder when he was a teenager.

CJ Strong, a young black man, is in prison for the murder he did not commit. Strong believes he knows who is guilty yet remains silent.

It is the women these men love that determine their fate as lives unwind and virtues waver. Silvana DeLuna, the washer woman of San Blas, Puerto Rico has lost her man yet finds love anew with one of the "brothers," Naval Officer Traynor Johnson. Santa Alba, the beauty queen of Coamo, has moved into the heart of Eddie Wheelwright, displacing Valerie McGuire. Val is a brilliant Wall Street equity analyst, who is struggling, searching for the part of her that is missing.

Tom Connolly was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He studied business administration at Northeastern University and organization development at Manhattanville where he received his Master of Science degree. He served in the US Air Force for four years and was stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany and New Delhi, India. After a career with IBM he started his own firm, Thundercloud Consulting Group, primarily focused on higher education transformation. Prime clients were Tufts, Brandeis and MIT.

The process of creating a story is enormously satisfying - giving life to characters, having them develop as real people with feelings; being able to give them expression. Watching these characters deal with obstacles in a plot, I sometimes ask myself, "Would I do that." And then I wonder where their ability to act as they did came from, particularly if it is something alien to me or my behavior. I enjoy when they fall in love, how they express it. And I try to ease their pain when that love is interrupted.

Hard to get into as there are so many characters and storylines! I thought about giving up a few times. Then about 38% through the book I started to get hooked!! It's an epic tale that weaves into history of the last 30 years or so. Definitely worth reading but not an easy, light read!!

I kept coming back

As I finished several chapters and put the book down to see what else I had to read, curiosity would make me pick it up again. After doing this a few times, I quit putting it down except to eat, sleep and feed my animals.

This is a story which holds families lives with losses, loves, and elements of anguish, betrayal, and bonds of friendship never to be broken. It’s fast moving and brilliantly written.

Story for the ages

The Adored is by its summary just another story of good triumphing over evil, a hard-won victory of the downtrodden, an everybody-loves-karma retelling. Do not be dissuaded by initial appearances. This complex novel begins somewhat slowly, causing the reader to wonder how much effort will be required to slog through three or four detail-rich, seemingly unrelated stories before either getting to the point of the whole thing, or giving up. But, just as the eyes take in the words of yet another "back story" of yet another newly-introduced character and setting, the mind begins to weave the threads of connection among them. It is this tapestry of interconnection that feeds the engrossing need to keep reading, capturing and tangling you, and making it nearly impossible *not* to get to the end in one sitting. This is a book I will most likely read again and again, and share with friends, not only for the overall "moral of the story" and happy ending, but for the enjoyment of the page-to-page reading, with its wealth of descriptive detail, fluid storytelling, and engaging characterization.
