Wanting him is the first thing that’s ever felt impossible to resist.
Remington Buchanan is the golden-boy firefighter everyone in town trusts with their lives. He’s wears a dimply smile that doesn’t seem to dim for anyone and makes me forget that he’s off limits. Because not only is he half my age, he’s also my son’s best friend.
I’ve built my world on responsibility. On early mornings, hard work, and putting my family first. There’s no room in it for reckless desire. And yet, every time he walks into a room smelling like smoke and sunshine and looking at me like I’m more than just his best friend’s dad, my carefully built restraint starts to crack.
When he takes in a thirteen-year-old boy who just lost his whole world, I tell myself I’m only helping because it’s the right thing to do. Nothing more.
But late nights together in secret turn into shared glances and accidental touches that linger too long. The space between us grows heavy with everything I’m pretending not to feel.
Loving him would mean risking my relationship with my son. It would mean admitting that after years of playing it safe, I want something that could burn my whole life to the ground.
Wanting him feels like crossing a line I can’t uncross.
Because if this goes wrong, I don’t just lose him—I lose my son. My family. My quiet, comfortable life I’ve spent decades building.
But when Remington looks at me like I’m not too old, not too closed off—just his—I start to wonder if doing the right thing has kept me safe… Or just kept me alone.
Some things are worth the risk.
And this time, I’m not sure I’m ready to walk away from the life, and the love, taking shape right in front of me.
Ashley James is a romance author who enjoys writing (and reading) LGBTQIA+ books. She is from Washington State—and no, not Seattle—and currently resides in South Carolina with her two kids and hairless kitties, Goose, Maverick, and Houston. Ashley is introverted and slightly (okay, majorly) awkward. She refuses to make this section sound like a tacky dating app profile, so she won't be telling you how much she enjoys music, how she thoroughly enjoys dancing and singing in her kitchen, despite not being able to carry a tune, and she won't be telling you about her love of toxic and broken fictional men.
I was really looking forward to Remi and Gentry's love story. For the fun best friend's father trope, with the forbidden aspect to it, the sneaking around, the maybe getting caught, people freaking out over it, drama central - and the drama making sense - and then things at least somewhat worked out to get that HEA.
But nah.
Authors these day seem to be wanting to take the most boring, blah route imaginable. Please do not promise these slightly wrong/slightly taboo or taboo tropes if you don't actually do anything with them, authors.
This could have just been a regular love story for the all the good the 'best friend's father' did for this story.
Even the age gap was a non-issue because Remi is 34 and Gentry 54, so both men are very much adults. Even an angle that could provide drama, Gentry having known Remi since he was a kid as Remi has been Hollis' best friend forever, was nothing. No one commented on that or got upset about that. Even though yes, Gentry never thought of him that way until recently, many people still are uncomfortable with age gap relationships if the older one knew the younger when the younger was a child.
Every avenue for juicy drama...gone. I get that melodramatics can be a bit much in romance novels sometimes, and sometimes there's too much drama, too much over the top drama...but there's the other end of the spectrum as well.
In a perfect world, everyone is healthy and mature and they think things through. They handle their emotions well and communicate well enough. They have good talks and don't say shitty things. And everyone is understanding and loving and happy for a couple as long as they're two consenting adults.
But unfortunately we don't live in that world and never will. We can strive toward that all our life, but...man, human beings are messy as fuck. We fuck up, we fly off the handle, we get stuck in our heads, we misinterpret things, we're immature, we freak out etc etc...
There was like...none of that human experience here, basically.
A good portion of the beginning part of this was actually a bit boring and slow going for me because it doesn't focus much on Remi and Gentry, but Remi all the sudden getting a 13 year old orphan with no one as someone he has to take care of. There's entirely too much time devoted to this. But even when it shifts to Gentry and Remi, now that this kid, Lukas, has been introduced, there isn't a whole lot of getting to know him, nor him getting to know Gentry - there's practically nothing there - when we know by the end of this they will be basically family.
So this kid is introduced (who is polite and kind and perfect and doesn't do anything to get in trouble, of course!) and takes up too much time in a romance book but then also since he was introduced, not given proper connection to anyone except Remi, I guess, although even that is spotty. Because then it does focus much more on Gentry and Remi and then we barely get anything with Remi and Lukas but at the end he sure wants to .
Like....
This gets almost 3 stars from me because it started to pick up halfway through, and for a good portion of this I was feeling Remi and Gentry a lot. And honestly Remi and Gentry are perfectly good characters (perhaps too perfect) so there's nothing to dislike about them. I didn't feel this way with the first two books, I swear, but...something about this one was just off.
And then - I know others probably won't care about this, but I do - this 54 year old man who has never bottomed, and before their first time it's mainly been Remi fantasizing about them together and in those he's always bottoming for Gentry - so anyway, this 54 year old man who has never bottomed just...does. Out of nowhere, he really wants it for some reason, with no build up, it's just out of nowhere, and Remi who has really wanted to be fucked by Gentry for YEARS actually wants to fuck him first, for their first time???
It was just beyond forced to me. I didn't like or care for it.
The sex was good enough before that - a blowjob - and they do switch, but that just did not work well for me. If Gentry wants to bottom eventually and try it out, fine, but to do it right off the bat after 54 years of nothing but the occasional finger when we've been set up for Gentry fucking Remi....like...no. Just no.
And moving on from that, of course Finn and Hollis reacted just fine to finding out their father is fucking Hollis' best friend. And Gentry tells them after only a few weeks of seeing Remi (which, beyond their first night, we don't get to see any of them together so were they even seeing each other in secret? Idk) so there's no long secret relationship - no fun there - no almost getting caught or full on getting caught, no freak out from the sons, especially Hollis ("as long as he makes you happy that's great" LIKE FFS), noTHING.
Like what is this? What is this bland ass "best friend's father" story? This is a nothingburger of that trope.
It's just a regular love story, to be honest. Which is fine, but just don't advertise as best friend's father, is what I'm saying. Just have them be a regular age gap couple that met at a bar or something idk. It'd have the same affect and this story wouldn't change all that much.
Like...points for the middle part for picking up my interest in these two, points for these two being overall good characters - even though I wish more flaws had been explored - and points for the most part having good sex between these two that showed chemistry between them. Their make out session as well was full of passion.
But so much more went wrong than right in this.
That also reminds me, Gentry has to start pottery for his hands which are getting very stiff and numb from years and years of work on his ranch, as recommended by his doctor, and he shows up for like two classes that of course Remi happens to teach, and then has one private lesson with Remi that leads to more and then we never hear about again.
Like...those 'private sessions' would have been nice to see these two talking and falling truly in love. Because honestly not a lot was done to show that. Remi just was after all these years, since he was a teenager, and he shamelessly flirts with Gentry but that's it, really. Not sure exactly why Gentry starts noticing Remi and starts falling for him. Something tangible would have been better.
Oh and before I forget, the daddy kink was *very* conservatively used in this. Remi calls Gentry 'daddy' and that's about it. Gentry likes it, I guess, and says "good boy" sometimes. I really don't get adding the daddy kink to a book either if almost nothing is done with it. What's the point?
So much was just...missing from this story. I know this author can and has done better.
I was so looking forward to this one, but...it just didn't work overall, unfortunately. A sad way to close out a series for me.
*sigh* I just need authors to stop being so afraid of messiness and drama along with the romance. That's what we're here for. They don't have to be toxic and shitty people but just...human and messy and a bit dramatic. It's fiction, so live it up a little bit, maybe?
Gentry is book three in The Moore Men series. This MM age gap romance story is about Gentry and Remi.
We have met both of these characters in the previous books, and I was definitely excited to get their story. Gentry is a rancher and father to Finn and Hollis. Remi is a firefighter and best friend’s with Hollis. Remi has had a crush on Gentry, and I enjoyed seeing him flirt with him and calling him Daddy Moore. It was cute how Gentry and Remi met up unexpectedly in a pottery class, and then things took off from there. There were so many obvious reasons why they shouldn’t want each other, but Gentry and Remi couldn’t fight the pull between them. They were so hot when they finally gave in.
I was a little surprised with their sexual dynamic, but the daddy kink was expected. I enjoyed the tension in the beginning, and after they were only going to have one night together, Gentry and Remi both realized it wasn’t enough. From that point on though, it felt like time skipped and they were already in a relationship, and we missed out on all the moments that would have lead up to it. I thought they would have handled things differently when it came to telling Hollis they were together. I was anticipating Hollis’s reaction and how things would play out, but it fell kind of flat for me.
Remi took on the guardianship of a thirteen year boy named Lukas, and I have to say I found it a bit odd how fast it all happened, especially since they were pretty much strangers. But if I overlooked this, it was truly wonderful what Remi did for Lukas.
The conflicts and obstacles Gentry and Remi faced seemed to work out pretty easily for them. That was nice and all, but I needed a little something more to keep me fully invested in this story. Gentry and Remi were both great men and deserved the best, and I am glad they found happiness together.
What you can expect: Age Gap Best Friend’s Dad Cowboy x Firefighter Hurt/Comfort Small Town Single Guardian Daddy Kink
I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
The glimpse of Remi and Gentry we got in previous books gave me high expectations for their forbidden relationship. But it just fell flat. As someone who enjoys reading daddy kink, it got pushed too far in the series. Felt so forced. Hearing daddy in this book every 5 seconds just got to a point where I was rolling my eyes.

So you mean to tell me you really thought that would be a one night only just to "get it out of your system", but the moment you two met, you started with the story of your life?????? Someone please tell them that's bonding material right there, they're so needy and clueless. ”He made me dinner. He opened up to me.” And then the sex? Honey, when that's placed on the third/last position, you know damn right it's not just physical connection involved.
Might be just me and the way I perceived these characters, but I feel like the level of emotional maturity in this book met different standards and thresholds. Yes, we also had that in Finn's book as a single father and all, but Gentry and Remi's story has a real warm and old connection. Souls linked together without knowing since the beginning, but they were too afraid to picture it like that. Mostly Gentry, but it's understandable. He watched Remi growing up with his son, it's normal to barely give in at first. Here, the desire mingles with the soul's need to belong somewhere safe and loving. I was rooting for them since the second book, when they were briefly mentioned. Imagine me now, enjoying their story like a happy kid on a Christmas morning.
Besides, I think what gave it a more special spark was the elements that put the story together. Lukas' story pieced together by Remi's precence in his life, them moving together, Remi introducing Lukas to the Moore family and how he fit perfectly there, like a big, beautiful family, then his adoption. The pottery lessons that were everything to me, it was such a romantic activity that turned out to be so respected by Gentry. Did you see how that man did everything in his power to make his man happy just by saying 'I wanna build you your own pottery studio'???? Shut the front door immediately. All of these were that kind of weakness you absolutely need for a story like this to work and not feel superficial and dry. Yes, Remi had a long-time crush on his best friend's dad, but Ashley explored that trope so well through all directions. It wasn't just them and their attraction towards each other, it was the whole interaction with multiple characters and I LOVED IT.
The last few chapters were so intense and filled with so much love... I was a crying mess till the very end. This one is definitely my favorite book of the series. Great, what do I do now? Please someone tell me there's another Moore man and we get his book as well cause I can't believe I finished the series, I'm mentally not prepared and ready for it to be over... *sigh*
Get yourselves a person that looks at you, treats you, talks to you with the same level of adoration as Remi has for Gentry. Get yourselves a person who values your passion as much as Gentry values Remi's passion. They might not buy you a place where you can express yourselves, but will definitely put their soul into what you love. In another universe, I have what these two have.
Ashley James's "Gentry" is a story with a ton of heart and a ton of taboo. It is an age-gap romance between Gentry, the MMC, and Remi, his son's best friend. Genty has always felt like he has had to hide who he really is from his family and friends. Even his adult sons don't know about his sexuality. He stays the course and keeps to a routine with his head down. He's a hard worker and doesn't deviate too terribly much from anything. Remi is a firefighter and a golden retriever of a character who has always had a crush on Gentry, despite how wrong it is. He has always called Gentry "Daddy Moore," shamelessly flirting with him even in front of Gentry's son/his own best friend. Remi recently took in a teenage boy named Lukas, who lost his father in the line of duty. Remi can relate as he lost his father when he was about the same age. Watching Remi and Lukas interact and open up to one another really worked for me. It felt authentic and realistic despite being a bit of a different scenario. That's honestly what works so well about "Gentry." There is so much power in this book's vulnerability. It made me tear up on at least two occasions. Gentry's soft interior and grumpy exterior are delicious to read about, which is offset and complemented well by Remi's overt innuendo, cinnamon roll-ness, but total devotion to a teenager whom he relates to about something unspeakable. I totally believe this couple, even though it was taboo for them to want one another. Their tenderness with one another, their eventual reveals about who they are, the emotionality... it all got to me! Add on a "single dad" trope, and you've got a recipe for a winner. I can't wait to go back and read the other books in this series!
Thank you to Ashley James and The Author Agency for the complimentary ARC of this book. All opinions are my own. I was not compensated for this review.
Remi was one of my favorite MCs Ashley has written. He was so sweet and endearing. Watching him get to know Lukas and care for him melted my heart.
Gentry was a grumpy rancher reluctant to love. I enjoyed watching him crumble for Remi.
I just wish that the ending didn’t feel so rushed. It went from Gentry denying their connection to instantly yes you’re mine to the end. It felt like just ticking off the boxes. I missed so much of their gentle moments outside of sex. I wanted to read more about their domestic bliss and blending their families together.
I do really love this series. I loved Remi and Gentry so much I just wanted more.
Cowboy x Firefighter Small Town Found Family Age Gap Best friend’s dad Hurt/Comfort Daddy kink
Yah, so this was perfect, 5 stars, just beautiful, sweet, swoony, funny and spicy. Everything you would expect from Ashley James
The found family in these books are everything. I just adore small town romances, everything is so willing to help.
Remi has crushed on Daddy Gentry for years, never really thought it would go anywhere until… all that changed.
Gentry begins to see Remi in a new light, and boy do sparks fly. These two were so hot. But they were also so sweet and vulnerable with each other… only each other, I have always loved that little side trope… only you.
Remi has made a hug life decision, I just adore how everyone around him supports him, rallies behind him, and is there just for him. Top tier found family. Gentry too… it was everything.
These two were perfect for each other, I just loved this. Beautiful book, fantastic banter, but also sweet and tender moments. Their intimacy and spice was so good.
Just an incredible book, top tier from Ashley James that’s for sure.
There are two sweet stories here and both are fantastic and intertwined and perfect . The first is Remi and Gentry - man Remi has been stuck on Daddy Moore. It’s all sorts of lovely - Gentry has to give in. Specially when he starts seeing him in a different light the more time they spend together one on one.
The second and one that’s really really touching is Lukas and Remi. This one made me tear up quite a bit. Made me love Remi as a character even more. It’s such a beautiful story of connection, hope, belonging, love of found family. When Remi takes 13 year old Lukas in and gives him a home my heart literally glowed.
Gentry is the 3rd book in the Moore Men series. I absolutely love this MM romance series, featuring cowboys. I was immediately sucked in by this one because it is a forbidden romance between Remi and his best friend's dad, Gentry.
Gentry has been in the closet because he grew up in a different time and felt like he had to hide his sexuality. He is devoted to working hard on his ranch, but his doctor advised him to slow down and recommended taking a pottery class to help with the pain in his hands. He is embarrassed when he shows up to his first class and realizes his son's best friend Remi is the teacher. Remi has always had a crush on Gentry and offers some private classes. Gentry is confused by his attraction to Remi and their chemistry was impossible to deny as they spent more time together.
Remi just became a guardian for another firefighter's son after he passed away. He felt a connection to Lukas because he lost his dad at the same age. The relationship between Remi and Lukas was one of my favorite parts of this book. I loved how his whole family and Gentry accept him into their lives.
Gentry and Remi were so adorable together and they just worked perfectly together. I appreciated how there was no 3rd act breakup and it is just a low angst, sweet romance.
Thank you to The Author Agency for providing the ARC.
Okay, so you already know the Moore Men series by Ashley James is one of my all-time favorite MM cowboy romance series, so I had very high expectations for Gentry… and it lived up to the hype for me- for the most part.
First of all, I am such a sucker for an age gap relationship, and Gentry and Remi just worked. Remi was so cheeky and bold with Gentry—I loved how he was constantly flirting and calling him “Daddy Moore.” It was playful, a little unhinged in the best way, and honestly just so fun to read. Their chemistry? Off the charts. And that private pottery class scene??? I’m still thinking about it. The sexual tension alone was enough to ruin me.
I also really loved how their relationship developed. Watching Gentry slowly realize he had real feelings for Remi was so satisfying. It didn’t feel rushed emotionally, and their connection felt genuine, not just physical (even though… yes, the spice was VERY good🥵). If you love a daddy kink, you are going to be very happy here.
One thing that really stood out to me was Remi and Lukas. That whole storyline was so sweet. Remi stepping up and being there for Lukas, especially knowing his own background, just made me love him even more. Taking in a teenager in your 30s is no small thing, and the way he handled it felt really heartfelt.
My only small complaint is that the last part of the book felt a little rushed. A few things—like Lukas' presence kind of fading out, Gentry’s hand issues, and Remi figuring out his future—felt like they could have been explored a bit more. But honestly? That might just be me not wanting the book to end because I love this series so much.
Overall, I had such a good time with this one. It was swoony, spicy, emotional, and just a really solid addition to a series I already adore. 4⭐️
Tropes: Best friend’s dad Age gap relationship Single dad Forbidden relationship Daddy kink Firefighter / Cowboy
Remington is Hollis' best friend and has been for years. Everyone loves Remi for his heart and humor.
Gentry is Hollis' father. Remi should be off limits for Gentry, but for some reason Gentry just can't get Remi out of his head.
Remi has had a crush on Gentry since he was 13 years old. When a teen boy who just lost his firefighter father in a fire asks Remi for help, Remi is determined to help. Lukas helps to bring Remi and Gentry together in their quest to help him.
This book had me in all the feels. I was laughing, giggling, kicking my feet, and even shed a few tears over Gentry and Remi's story. Ashley James is a master story-teller. I have loved every book written by Ashley. I am actually looking forward to seeing who gets to narrate the characters in the audiobook!
This is a best friend’s dad to more romance, featuring Gentry Moore and Remington Buchanan, and is book three in the Moore Men series.
Gentry has always put responsibility first, but his growing feelings for Remington, his son’s best friend, is challenging everything he has built. As their connection deepens, Gentry must choose between protecting his family and risking it all.
I really enjoyed this one, I loved the whole series. Gentry and Remi are so good together. The flirting, the secret times together, the way they can’t stay away. The pottery foreplay had me humming unchained melody, ha ha ha. Remi and his not-so-secret crush, swoon.
Things to expect in this book are: Book 3 in series MM romance Best friend’s dad to more Age gap Firefighter x Rancher Not so secret crush Closeted MC Pottery foreplay Flirting Jealousy Spicy times & dirty talk Public s*x Face sitting First times Secret relationship Coming out Found family HEA
I love that Daddy Moore got his happy ending finally. I cannot imagine how hard this was for him to keep a secret and how much of a relief it was to finally come clean. I loved Lukas and that added depth was so sweet. I did not think this would top Finns book which was my favorite before this but Gentry has surpassed this. It was so sweet and such a beautiful ending for this series. I love this family and I am so happy with how this concluded.
-mm romance -cowboy x firefighter -best friends dad -forbidden romance -self discovery -age gap
this one’s been a long time coming & these two were sooo hottt! their chemistry did NOT disappoint!! i loved the plot with lukas & how we did not see it coming, it really made sense to bring our two characters together. i wish we got more & more of them!!
This is a delicious MM romance that absolutely delivered on the tension and emotional payoff I was hoping for.
This story leans fully into the “best friend’s dad” trope with a compelling age-gap dynamic that feels both risky and irresistible. The chemistry between the characters is undeniable from the start, and I loved how their connection developed beyond just the forbidden aspect. The push-and-pull, the internal conflict, and the moments of tenderness really stood out to me.
If you enjoy MM romances with age gap, forbidden dynamics, and a battle for who you really are, this one is definitely worth picking up.
This was… appallingly bad. I DNF’d at 84 percent, but I mentally clocked out at 60 percent.
I read the first book in the series, Finn, a couple months ago, and I forgot to rate/review it, and I remember not being super impressed by it, but it was an easy, entertaining enough read. Granted, it’s been a couple months since I’ve read it so I can’t really remember too many details, but I was able to finish it in a day and it kept my attention for the most part. I didn’t read the second book in the series because I wasn’t that impressed with the first one, but I decided to pick this one up because I found the age gap romance aspect of it to be interesting, especially given that Remi is an older character himself, and that’s not a typical age gap that we see.
And oh my Lord, I was not prepared for how abysmal this book was. First and foremost, there were several typos in this book. I think at my last count, there was at least five or six that I noticed, and it became distracting. It felt like this book was written in a rush, and that did not help things. Speaking of being written in rush, this book does so much telling and not enough showing. We were literally being spoonfed information, everything was explained to us by the POV character in the prose, and we barely got any scenes of anything happening! And the scenes that we do get are so surface level and boring that I wish we hadn’t have gotten them at all. The characters were all so boring, and so under developed. In the midst of what is supposed to be this grand romance, we also have some sort of found family trope happening between Lukas and Remi, except we barely get any scenes of them together and they’re so shallow!
Not to mention, we get this small meeting between Lukas and Remi and then suddenly Lukas decides that he wants to live with Remi three months after meeting him and having a five minute conversation with him. While that’s kind of insane thinking , I can excuse it because that’s the way a 13-year-old thinks and the way they think the world works. But the fact that this child’s grandmother just decides to dump him off with a literal random stranger at the behest of the 13-year-old and then she never checks up on him after that is insane. She makes all of these disparaging remarks in front of Lukas and never asks about him again and we’re never given any explanation for it! So many things were left out of this story: where is Lukas’ mom? Where is Gentry’s ex-wife? What is her relationship with the sons because I don’t remember her being in Finn’s book and she certainly not in this one, at least not up until the 84% mark, so I’m not really sure what’s going on with her. And how, in the small town that we literally keep being told how small it is, can Remi teach a pottery class and no one close to him know about it?
The biggest thing that bothered me about this book is that the romance Between Gentry and Remi is honestly barely a romance. Remi has stated that he has had a long-standing crush on Gentry since childhood, and Gentry has never seen Remi that way. And then basically they have one session of this pottery class with the flimsiest excuses to why Gentry would need this class anyway, and suddenly Gentry is now viewing Remi as this young hot thing, even though he literally sees this kid every single day of his life? So then this weird forced sexual tension comes between them, they have one sexual encounter at a bar, and then Gentry decides that he needs to basically fuck Remi out of his system, so they fuck for the first time at the 60% mark. After their first time, Remi decides that he’s done crushing on Gentry and he’s actually in love with Gentry, even though they had ONE actual conversation about something other than flirting or sex before they actually had full penetrative sex. And on Gentry’s side, he,after weeks/months of resisting Remi and only viewing him sexually, decides that that was actually the most romantic thing that’s ever happened to him in his life and he wants to be with Remi. Where is this magical connection that happened? They barely talk besides flirting with one another and then resisting one another! And they don’t even specify in this conversation that they have after this one night stand that they were supposed to have, that they even want a romantic relationship! It just sounds like they want to keep fucking each other and that’s it!
And let’s be real: that’s all this relationship would end up being, is sexual. Gentry has never actually been in a full romantic relationship before, and he has one sexual encounter with Remi, and he suddenly decides that this is the man for him. Despite the fact that he basically has disliked this guy ever since he was a teenager growing up with his son, but now all of a sudden he decides that he wants to be with him. Also! Gentry comes out to his children, his two queer sons, after years of repressing the fact that he’s gay, and apparently their mom is gay too, but I don’t think she’s out. And I guess it’s the scene that’s supposed to be heartwarming and sweet, but I was so checked out of the book at this point that I didn’t care about this. But what pisses me off… Is Gentry discloses in his relationship with Remi to his children, including his son, Hollis, who happens to be Remi’s best friend, WITHOUT TELLING REMI. Holy fucking shit, Gentry! I know this is your first romantic relationship, but you can’t drop a bomb like that on people without consulting your partner first!!!! and Remi is literally fine with it when Gentry tells him what he did…OVER. TEXT. It’s not even a face-to-face conversation!
Oh, and the daddy kink? Stupid as hell. Remi used it before sex, so it always felt like it had a joking quality to it, not sexual at all, and my GOD, he overused it. It was in almost every sentence during a smut scene, to the point where it felt like wayyy too much.
When I read that Gentry texting Remi that he told his sons about their relationship, I was done. This was an awful book and I’m really sorry I wasted my time reading this. This book could’ve been a fucking email and I probably still would’ve skipped it.

ARC REVIEW GENTRY (The Moore Men 3) USCITA: 19/03/2026 VOTO: 4⭐4🌶️ RECENSIONE: Gentry é il terzo libro della serie The Moore Men. English Review ⬇
“Gentry” is the third book in Ashley James’s “The Moore’s Men” series. I absolutely loved the three books that came before “Gentry,” and I couldn’t wait to start reading this one! In this book, I adored Remi, whom I’d already met in Hollis’ book, because they’ve been best friends since they were kids. In this book, Remi becomes the single guardian of a 13-year-old boy, Lukas. Lukas lost his father (a firefighter like Remi) while he was on duty and doesn’t want to move with his grandmother to another State, so he asks Remi if he can live with him. Remi is scared, but he asks Gentry (who is a single father) for advice. A month later, Lukas moves in with Remi—and not just with him, but he’ll find a big family waiting for him (Remi’s mother and sister), Gentry, Hollis, Finn and his son Tucker, and all their partners, ready to welcome him. We also see how the romance between Gentry and Remi blossoms. It was a pleasant surprise to see Remi so confident and to watch Gentry—a serious man of few words—open up thanks to him. Gentry finally deserves love after so many years of being single! Remi and Lukas have been a wonderful addition to his life, and I’m truly happy for all of them. Recommended if you like stories featuring cowboys, single dads, and age gaps. Thanks for the ARC copy!

Review: This was everything you’d want it to be. I’ve been excited for Remi and Gentry ever since the first time Remi called him Daddy Moore and Gentry rolled his eyes in Finn and I’m so happy they finally got their story. I really liked how Ashley forced them in proximity to each other. I loved that level of vulnerability and honesty that came with them in the private pottery lessons. Gentry feeling like he finally had a quiet space where he could let everything go, and Remi just soaking up everything about the man he’d fantasized about for years. The tension build up was positively exquisite, and that first kiss scene? So so so hot. But then we got Gentry’s POV after and realized why he ran out of there so fast and I am not kidding when I say I screamed. I also really enjoyed the single guardian layer to this story. It wasn’t something I would have anticipated for Remington from the earlier books, but I think that Lukas was a gift that Remi never would’ve seen coming. They fit so effortlessly together and by the end of the book I was sobbing at their beautiful family. Of course I loved getting to see all the other Moore Men crew and Tucker and Lukas becoming super close was so heartwarming. I loved getting to watch Gentry finally shed his fear and be open to Hollis and Finn about who he is and I loved that he cared about Remi so much that he just had to tell them about him too. Now let me tell you though, the chemistry between these two was so fucking hot. But the smutty scenes were also tender in a way I wasn’t prepared for. Overall, I really enjoyed this and I’m sad the series has ended now.
My only complaints was that it did feel a little rushed. I would’ve liked to see just a little more emotional depth in their relationship building and I would’ve loved to see a little more time with the three of Lukas, Gentry and Remi together. I was also a bit sad we didn’t get an extended epilogue just to pull all the series together and wrap it up. That’s the only reason it wasn’t a five star for me.
Thanks to The Author Agency for an early copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I did not expect this book to have me crying at 5am not once, but twice!! I never doubt that an Ashley James book will be good, but I was not prepared for how much it would affect me—which I'm not mad about at all! This book packs an emotional punch (in the best way) while still bringing the heat. I loved this.
The star of this book for me was the relationship between Remi and Lukas, which was the absolute last thing I was expecting, but it was so beautiful and touching. There could not have been a more perfect person for Lukas to have as a guardian than Remi. The way he was able to provide a safe space for him to grieve the loss of his father while also being able to relate and offer his own experience as a reference was exactly what he needed. It was so sweet to see them create a relationship and see Lukas flourish in Remi's life, especially on the ranch with all of the Moore Men. They welcomed him with open arms and it was everything!!
My other favorite part was, of course, Remi and Gentry. We've gotten little moments throughout the series (mostly Remi being a shameless flirt) so it was really fun to see it all come to fruition. The tension and the sneaking around were SO GOOD, but most of all, I enjoyed seeing them confide in each other and dig deep when it came to their feelings. I love the role Gentry played in swaying Remi's confidence when it came to Lukas and to his own career. They complemented each other really well and I loved seeing them both be loved the way they deserved.
The scene with Gentry at dinner with only Hollis and Finn—oh my god. Made me cry like a baby lmaoooo. Iykyk. Wholesome, earnest, and a heartfelt moment between the Moore Men. I loved it so much.
I wish we'd gotten another epilogue but that's me being greedy and wanting more of our boys, but overall, one of my favorite books of the series. Honestly, it's hard to rank them because they're all just solid. Highly, highly recommend and it's out now!
Let me tell you...BFF’s dad (or ex's dad...basically, anyone's dad but their own) is such a top-tier trope, and when that dad is GentryI was done for before I even started.
Remi has carried this quiet, long-standing crush on Gentry since he was a teenager (and don’t worry, nothing happens until Remi is in his 30s and Gentry is in his 50s), and the emotional payoff of that slow shift--from teasingly calling him “daddy” just to get a rise out of him, to it meaning everything, was unreal. Watching Gentry go from resisting it to needing it? 🥵 It hit in all the right ways.
The pottery aspect was honestly so beautifully done. It gave them this soft, private space where Gentry could finally let his guard down to let someone in after hiding pieces of himself for so long. At the same time, it created that perfect forced proximity that let Remi step forward and take the lead, gently but confidently.
What really got me, though, was Gentry himself. Beneath the confidence and masculinity is someone who’s been holding so much in for so long. Seeing him be the softer, more inexperienced and vulnerable one in the relationship, letting himself be cared for, felt incredibly special. That role reversal just added so much heart to their dynamic.
And then Lucas and Remi absolutely wrecked me. There’s something so powerful about unexpected guardianship and watching a found family come together to heal a hurting child. It’s tender, it’s messy, and it feels so real. Lucas deserves the world and Remi was the perfect person to give it to him.
This book didn’t just give me a swoony romance, it kinda gave me hope. A reminder that no matter how complicated life gets, love can still find a way to show up, heal, and stay.
Thank you, @authorashleyjames and @theauthor.agency for this ARC.
I knew that this book was going to be everything an I definitely was not disappointed by how good this book was. I love me a good age gap but mix it in with son’s best friend, yes please!
I absolutely loved these two and it was so natural of how these two got together. We learn so much from these two and I was here for every moment.
I was completely here for Gentry when he finally came out to his sons and told them about his relationship with Remi. That whole scene had me giggling but what had me dying was the turkey baster comment he told Remi. I just wanted Gentry to finally be free and to be able to love open heartedly to who he wanted.
From how hard he tried to push Remi away, I just knew these were going to be hot. Those spicy scenes were making me want more and more. And that first kiss between those two was what I was waiting for. Gentry tried so hard but how could you not want more?
I also loved what Gentry did for Remi when it came to his love for pottery. I was swooning. I laughed when Gentry walked in his first pottery class and saw that Remi was there. Simply priceless.
And I fell in love with Remi when he pretty much stepped up and took custody of a fallen firefighter’s son. The relationship between Lukas and Remi was so beautiful. I loved how Remi resonated himself with Lukas and was there for him in so many levels that he wished he had as a kid. I loved how everyone was there for Remi when it came to Lukas.
I laughed when Lukas asked if Gentry was going to be his stepdad. Too freaking cute. I loved the found family too because from getting to see Hollis and Finn with Gentry and Hollis and Remi’s friendship.
I cannot wait to see what is next in store for us because I only wanted more.
I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Gentry by Ashley James is the third and final book in The Moore Men series. Gentry is the patriarch of the Moore Family and the owner of the Moore Family Ranch in Wolf Creek, Texas. His two sons, Finn and Hollis live on ranch property, in their own homes while helping him run the family business. Gentry is a small town MM romance between a cowboy and a firefighter where a significant age gap and Gentry being his best friend’s dad won’t stop Remi from trying to make all his fantasies come to life.
🔥Best Friend’s Dad 🔥Age Gap 🔥Daddy Kink 🔥Hurt/Comfort 🔥Cowboy x Firefighter
Gentry and Remi were a sweet couple and I really enjoyed their story. Gentry’s character arc was well done. His constant willingness to show vulnerability even when he wanted to fight against it made his character so much more interesting. Remi was exactly what I expected though his storyline outside of Gentry was incredible. I actually wish there had been more time to explore that story in more depth. This was a good final book to this series but I do have to say that I felt some chemistry lacking between Remi and Gentry. I think the angst was just a little rushed between them and with a character as gruff as Gentry, the sudden shift was a bit too jarring for me. I definitely felt that angst through Remi but it was lacking just a bit on Gentry’s side. Overall, I enjoyed both characters immensely and this continues to be one of my favorite series by Ashley.
This book had a lot of heart. Those family scenes were my favourite parts. The unconditional love Gentry and his sons had for each other, and the special bond that Remi had with Lukas was beautiful.
Hearing Gentry’s story was kind of heartbreaking. The man had hid himself from everyone and was living such a solitary life. I’m glad Remi was able to push himself into Gentry’s life romantically, otherwise he’d be lonely and possibly closeted forever. I liked how the author made it clear multiple times that Gentry had felt nothing for Remi up until recently since he’s known him from a young age.
Gentry was such a grump but he really soften up with Remi. Their deep conversations were sweet and it allowed Remi to follow his heart with his career and life choices. Gentry really believed in him and was ready to invest in what made Remi truly happy. The ending was really wholesome. I really loved the Moore men and all of their love stories.
- Age gap - Best friend’s dad - Single dad X single guardian - Rancher X firefighter - Grumpy X sunshine - Private pottery lessons
I knew going into this that I would love Gentry. I have a weak spot for grumpy men and this definitely has grumpy/sunshine vibes. Gentry is apart of the Moore Men who run a family owned cattle ranch. He is the father of Finn and Hollis, who also have their own books in this series. He is a hard worker and set in his ways. He has done nothing but take care of his family and the ranch his whole life. When he and his wife divorced, he never let himself be who he truly was and try to find his true love. Sometimes though, you find it where you least expect it.
Remington aka Remi is a local firefighter and also happens to be Hollis's best friend. They grew up together and he was practically raised on this ranch. He always had a crush on Gentry, but of course never thought anything would come of it. He was 19 years younger and Gentry wasn't gay. Or is he? I loved this story so much and all the flirting and grumpiness and especially the spice. It was a bit of a slow burn, but when it happened, damn! I was sweating a little 🤣 I love a good age gap story and his had all the things! Definitely check out this series! So good!
Gentry!! I was so happy to be gifted this ARC. I know my review is a little behind but I needed to catch up and then savor the joy these books brought. The last book in the Moore Men series did not disappoint. Ashley is an automatic read for me, so I knew it would be good. I didn't expect how heartwarming it would be.
Gentry Moore is THE dad (literally) of Hollis and Finn. Growing up, Hollis and Remington were best friends, always around the ranch and Remi was never shy about his crush on "Daddy." Remi teases and flirts with Gentry relentlessly, and it never really affected Gentry...until it did.
Remington becomes the guardian of the son of a fallen firefighter and at the same time, decides to finally shoot his shot with Gentry.
Sparks fly, lust takes over and things happen. Navigating being a caretaker of a young teenager, living his dream with Gentry, and making some big decisions has Remington in his head but with the love and support of the Moore's, they come out strong.
I loved this book and series. I adore Lukas. This was just great.
Thank you The Author Agency and Ashley James, I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
GENTRY MOORE THE MAN THAT YOU ARE!!!! Then again I shouldn't be surprised when he raised two amazing sons. This book was so sweet, feel-good, sensual, comforting, and wholesome.
Sigh, I tried so hard to savor this story; it made me fan myself, smile, cry, and giggle. Gentry had no peace when it came to dealing with Remi's shenanigans lol. Oh my lord, Remington the beautiful soul, we saw a different side to him and I loved it completely.
Him and Gentry omg chef's kiss!
Gentry might not be big on speeches but when he does!!!!!!!! That man said, "Your dreams matter." Darn it, I reread it numerous times before moving on.
There was no drama, no misunderstandings, no push and pull, just two beautiful men standing on what they wanted and went for it.
Let me not forget about the rest of the Moore men, I loved the patience, love, and understanding that Finn and Hollis gave Gentry, and big ups to Hollis for simply being a good friend and accepting Remi and Gentry's love.
This was my first best friend dad trope read and it was well-written and executed.
UGH. Gentry's story was so freaking bittersweet. I loved it. Read it all within one evening and then was upset with myself that I didn't savor it. I'm going to miss these characters! I didn't have any expectations going into this other than pure excitement that Gentry would finally find love. And I feel like that was definitely the best way to go about it. Gentry and Remi's story has such a different feel than the other two in the series. It's deeper. Remi's story of becoming a guardian to a boy he relates to on so many levels and helping that boy heal was freaking perfection. Gentry's story of finally coming out after feeling he didn't need to or couldn't for the sake of his boys and the ranch, oh my heart! These two sweet souls found and matched each other in every way they needed and I loved seeing their story unfold. I'm 100% sad that this series is over though, I loved it so much. It's gonna end up being a yearly reread.
I have been wanting Gentry’s story ever since meeting him in Finn and the fact that he ends up with Remi makes it even better. Gentry is a rancher who has put everything into the family ranch. He just loves his family so much. Remi is a blast honestly. I loved the glimpses of him we see in other books and I LOVED getting to learn more about him. He’s such a golden retriever and cares so deeply.
The storyline was not at all what I was expecting with the introduction of Lukas and all that comes with him. Remi takes him in and my heart was bursting. I loved the dynamic between Remi and Gentry and how deeply they fall for each other. Also!! The way Gentry sits his boys down and just lays it all out was amazing. I loved that they were honest pretty immediately about their relationship.
I am so sad that this series is over but I can’t wait to see what else Ashley releases in the future!!
