Tara, like all of the wildcats, had a past. A history. Knox? He was no better. A diagnosed psychopath. Together? They were certifiably insane. And I was kinda into it.

The mutual stalking, the back and forth — it was toxic yet addictive. I loved it. Some things were so fun yet weird and I was so down for it 🤣

My favorite character? Definitely Shadow. He was THE MAIN EVENT. We love him.

Here is where I explain my 3 stars.
Burn’s writing was a little different from Rage, let me explain.
While Rage seemed to have been smooth, seamless, edited, etc. — Burn had a lot of kinks that needed to be worked out. And I’m not talking grammatical errors. The sentence structures were different than those in Rage, so it threw me off (almost as if written by a completely different person). There were repetitive adjective use in the same sentence, or the same odd phrase used multiple times on the same page. I’m not sure if it was intentional but it felt off to me.
The writing for Tara felt different from Knox — Knox’s tone was off, almost dumbed down, like he was incompetent and only had a simple mind (which shouldn’t be the case for a lead detective AND psychopath, as they statistically usually have a really high IQ).
There were some odd terms used in the book (I.e. squirty pussy) that made me cringe in the middle of a scene, but again, it was usually Knox’s POV so his tone was always off.
The excessive use of calling someone a “fucker” definitely got old. And I mean, like, multiple times a page.

I loved the story, truly. I love the Wildcats and their team and the chemistry and everything. I think the writing just threw me for a loop, hence the 3 stars! Please take this opinion with a grain of salt! Everyone has a different perspective. I hope this is taken as constructive and not in a rude way!

I absolutely loved this book! I didn't realize there was a previous one in the series, but it didn't impact my ability to jump in at book two.

I loved that both of the leads were unhinged, messed up stalkers. The juxtaposition of Tara being a ruthless killer who was pushed into it after severe trauma, and Knox being a sociopath who was guided into putting his obsession into putting away criminals away instead of becoming a killer, made it SO interesting.

Together they became a duo for absolute chaos, ruthlessness and protection and omg the spiiiiiice! I loved how obsessed Knox was and how that led to pure desperation to consume Tara - and how Tara's kinks aligned with wanting someone who filled that need to feel pure obsession. They were such a good pairing, and the rest of the team alongside them - along with the suspense plot - was so great, I absolutely burned through this one.

*****

I was sent a complimentary advanced reader copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Swipe The Book PR for sending this my way!

“It’s like he’s obsessed with me or something”

I’ve thought about how to start this review for a hot second, and have decided honesty is the best policy. Nia Myst delivered one of the best dark romances I have ever read, balancing plot and spice, for a well-deserved 5 ⭐️ “Burn” combined some of my favorite tropes while also serving up a mesmerizing high-stakes plot. delicious spicy scenes, and an adorable Doberman sidekick.

Tara is a scarred survivor on a mission. As a member of the Wildcats, a female-led vigilante justice group, she strikes fear into the heart of the very same men who hurt her. However, police lieutenant Knox is hot on her trail - determined to reclaim the pool of criminals he uses for his own form of justice. As the two engage in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, something begins to lurk under the surface. Is it just excitement from their game, obsession, or something else?

I loved Tara so much! She is the epitome of a strong female character by both physical ability and resilience. Her growth, her vulnerability, and her capacity for love despite her past trauma is a HUGE testament to her. Similarly, our author wrote a beautiful note at the end of the book to highlight the truth behind acid attacks, like the one Tara suffered from, and the structural obstacles or inequities women face when trying to report their abusers. To have an author acknowledge these hard topics with so much compassion and understanding, is truly heartwarming and speaks to the quality of both Nia Myst’s research and writing behind her novels.

And let’s not get me started on Mr. Lieutenant Knox Steele. We LOVE a man who is obsessed AND yearns. It was giving a more unhinged Josh from “Lights Out” and I was captivated. The push and pull of Knox’s character with Tara’s builds so much tension amidst a fast-paced plot, I kept reading waiting for the release of when they finally got together (and stayed for everything after). Not to mention, Knox is so down bad for Tara (literally his photo next to the term in the dictionary) that he not only kills for her, but makes her breakfast!

The rest of the Wildcats and the extended family, including Shadow our little (giant), sweet (terrifying) Doberman baby, had my heart from the first page. I highly recommend this book, and any others to come, for fans of dark romance and badass FMCs!

4 stars for me.

Knox is on the hunt, the vigilante he saw and can't forget about is Tara, and she's for sure will not make it easy to get her.Stalker and stalker, who's hunting who?

Great and very dark romance with suspense.Tara had her share of suferring, and she really don't look for love, her scars had her pull out of any romantic interest, and it's not shocking that she is not one to play with.Knox surprised me,I'm not sure what I expected but it was not a psychopath that is wearing a cop mask. Both are perfect for each other, and the sheer joy they get from killing the bad guys is really disturbing ,creepy and fun at the same time. The chemistry between them was mind blowing, and the sex parts really naughty, something while reading I need to get my fan out;).The added suspense and catching the bad guys was satisfying and got my revenge thirsty mind at ease and happy of the outcome.

My favorite line-
'For me,love is an undying obsession,heart-stopping adoration, maddening lust, and a willingness to sacrifice yourself to protect the person you love."

If you looking for a very dark romance, with dark main characters and lots of lust between them,I would recommend this one.

Thank you swipethebook-pr-connect and author for my arc,my review is honest and my own.

Sometimes you just need a psycho stalker cop to break into your home, plant cameras and audio listening devices, clean your apartment, and leave food in the fridge for you… among other things🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

The cop being obsessed with “his little criminal” and the cat and mouse game between Tara and Knox in the beginning was so addictive! I couldn’t wait to see what they would do next and holy moly was I not disappointed🫠

I loved the underlying theme of self acceptance and letting the people who love and care about you in fully. This is another one where the TW’s are heavy and the spice was spicing😅

Thank you to Nia for the Arc opportunity!

Oh, I absolutely loved this one. Knox is officially in my favorite red flag boyfriends list. The story, the plot, the characters, everything about this was great and well executed. I was hooked right from the beginning and didn't stop until I was completely finished. I absolutely LOVED the relationship between Tara and Knox and definitely one of my favorite book couples.

Tara was a great fmc and I think she was written so well and portrayed as such a great, bad 🍑 protector. Knox was just, ugh. Love him so much.

A great dark romance and definitely not one you want to miss!

“You are the beauty to my beast.”

Burn was EVERYTHING I wanted and MORE. If Rage introduced us to the badass world of the Wildcats, this book showed us the HEART behind it. This story was not just about revenge, obsession, or justice—it was about healing, learning to love yourself again, and finding someone who sees you exactly as you are.

Tara was honestly something SPECIAL.

If Samaira was the definition of unstoppable, Tara was the definition of RESILIENCE. Because it takes a different kind of strength to look at the version of yourself that the world tried to label as broken and choose to love her anyway.

After surviving a brutal acid attack, Tara carried scars that went far beyond what people could see. She became Shadow Panther, a member of the Wildcats, fighting for women who were failed by the system. But beneath the lethal fighter was someone who still struggled with seeing herself as beautiful and worthy of love.

And honestly? THAT BROKE ME. 😭(Especially the mirror scene. I was not okay.)

I loved that she had the Wildcats, Shadow, and eventually Knox beside her—but the Wildcats’ sisterhood was EVERYTHING. They weren’t just teammates; they were family. The way they protected her, supported her, and stood beside her through everything genuinely made my heart ache.

“Only Knox Steele looked at me with that kind of unflinching obsession.”

And then came Knox Steele.

Oh, KNOX. This man was absolutely UNHINGED, obsessive, and terrifying in the best possible way. But underneath all that intensity was someone who saw Tara—not her scars, not her past, not what happened to her—but HER.

When everyone else saw what she had lost, Knox saw everything she still was.

Their first meeting was literally a cat-and-mouse chase, and their entire relationship carried that same chaotic energy. The stalking, the banter, the pranks, the constant challenge between them—it was hilarious, intense, and completely addictive.

LIKE THESE TWO WERE BOTH INSANE AND SOMEHOW PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. 😭

“The beautiful little criminal was mine.”

Can we PLEASE talk about Knox calling her his little criminal? Because that nickname was EVERYTHING.

The way this completely unhinged man who was supposed to hunt her became the person who would burn the entire world down for her??? I WAS OBSESSED.

“Only you. I belong to no one. I answer to no one, only you.”

What I loved most was that Knox wasn’t there to save Tara. She didn’t need saving. She was already strong, already capable, already fighting her own battles. He was there to remind her that she didn’t have to fight alone.

“You are mine, and I will take care of everything and everyone that is yours.”

Tara needed someone who would look at every part of her—the beautiful parts and the painful ones—and never hesitate. Someone who would see her scars and never make her feel like they changed her worth.

And Knox was EXACTLY that person.

“You are, and always will be, my North Star. My Tara. My little fairy tale goddess who kills the monsters of this pathetic world.”

EXCUSE ME??? 😭😭

Their relationship was chaotic, obsessive, and completely THEM. They were both a little crazy, both stubborn, and both willing to burn the world down for the people they loved.

Also, can we talk about Shadow? Because Tara’s Doberman absolutely stole every scene.

The relationship between Shadow and Knox had me laughing so much. Watching these two stubborn men basically compete for Tara’s attention was honestly one of my favourite things.

The plot was also incredible. The Wildcats investigating the trafficking ring, the action sequences, the revenge, and the emotional moments all came together so well. I genuinely could not put this book down.

(Also, please check trigger warnings before reading this one. Burn is darker and more graphic than Rage.)

Nia Myst has created something truly special with the Wildcats, and I am officially OBSESSED with this world.

A huge thank you to Nia Myst and Swipe the Book PR for allowing me to read this ARC. I’m so grateful because this book was an absolute masterpiece. 💜

There are books you enjoy, books you obsess over, and then there are books that completely take over your brain long after you've turned the final page. Burn is that kind of book for me 😌❤️‍🔥

Going in, I expected a fun STALKER × STALKER dark romance. What I got instead was an ADDICTIVE blend of obsession, action, emotional healing, found family, humor, suspense, and a romance that somehow felt both completely unhinged and incredibly beautiful 🤌🏻✨

Tara Soni is hands down one of my favorite FMCs I've ever read. She isn't just strong because the story tells you she is, she has earned every bit of that strength. As an acid attack survivor, she's forced to live with scars that constantly remind her of the worst day of her life yet she refuses to let them define her. Watching her reclaim her confidence piece by piece made my heart ache and heal alongside hers. She's intelligent, fearless, sarcastic, emotionally complex, and absolutely capable of holding her own against a man like Knox 💅🏻

And then there's Knox Steele...
This man is absolutely INSANE ❤️‍🔥
A psychopath. A cop. Possessive. Obsessive. Morally questionable. Completely gone for one woman 🫠💋

Normally those traits would terrify me, but Knox somehow manages to be intimidating, hilarious, protective, and ridiculously lovable all at once. His obsession never felt like it erased Tara's strength, it amplified it. He didn't want to change her; he admired every dangerous, stubborn, chaotic part of her. Even the parts she struggled to love herself.
That's what made their relationship stand out to me.

This isn't just enemies to lovers.
It's hunter versus hunter.
Stalker versus stalker.

Two people constantly trying to outsmart each other, breaking into each other's spaces, playing mind games, challenging one another at every opportunity, and somehow falling hopelessly in love in the middle of all that madness. Their banter had me laughing, their chemistry had me kicking my feet, and their emotional moments genuinely caught me off guard.

The WILDCATS aren't just side characters, they're FAMILY. Their loyalty, love & unwavering support for one another gave this story so much warmth amidst all the darkness. Every interaction between the girls reminded me that healing doesn't always begin with romance; sometimes it begins with finding people who refuse to let you face the world alone.

And can we please talk about Shadow?
That dog completely stole every scene he walked into. His dynamic with Knox had me laughing so many times that I honestly started looking forward to their interactions almost as much as the romance itself.

One thing I appreciated was that the spice never overshadowed the story. The action sequences were cinematic, the suspense kept me glued to the pages & the final stretch of the book was impossible to put down. Every chapter raised the stakes until I was flying through the last hundred pages because I desperately needed to know how everything would unfold.

Another aspect that truly stood out to me was the way Tara's trauma was portrayed with such care and sensitivity. Her scars are never treated as something that needs to disappear before she's worthy of love. Instead, the story beautifully shows that healing isn't about becoming who you were before, it's about learning to embrace who you've become.

If you're looking for a dark romance that's more than just spice, this is absolutely worth picking up. It has morally gray characters, obsessive love, incredible banter, thrilling action, emotional depth, found family, a badass heroine, an unforgettable hero, and enough plot twists to keep you hooked until the very last page.

By the time I turned the last page, I was left with a full heart, a massive book hangover, and an unhealthy obsession with Tara, Knox, and the Wildcats. I wasn't ready to leave this world behind. Their story made me laugh, shattered my heart, put it back together again, and left me counting down the days until the next book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (∞ if Goodreads allowed it ❤️‍🔥)

Safe to say, this book is going to live rent-free in my mind for a very long time.

Burn by Nia Myst, the second installment in the Wildcats series, is a dark enemies-to-lovers romance built around a vigilante and the police lieutenant determined to catch her. With a stalker-versus-stalker dynamic, morally questionable characters, and plenty of danger, it delivers an intense story where obsession and attraction become impossible to separate.

I went into Burn expecting chaos, and it absolutely delivered. From the very beginning, the relationship between Tara and Knox felt like a battle of equals. Neither of them backs down, and their constant attempts to outsmart, provoke, and challenge each other created a tension that kept me fully invested. Every interaction felt unpredictable, making it difficult to put the book down.

What stood out most to me was Tara’s journey. After surviving a horrific acid attack, she has spent years rebuilding herself and finding strength in the Wildcat crew. Watching her slowly accept herself and recognize that she is still worthy of love and desire added an emotional layer to a story otherwise filled with violence, revenge, and obsession.

Knox was equally captivating in a very different way. He is morally twisted, obsessive, and unquestionably dangerous, yet he never felt one-dimensional. Beneath his relentless pursuit of Tara is a man drawn to her strength and ferocity, making his obsession feel as fascinating as it is unsettling.

The chemistry between them was intense and undeniable. Their cat-and-mouse game never felt repetitive because both characters were equally ruthless and equally obsessed. Her resilience made her easy to admire, while Knox’s relentless pursuit made him fascinating despite his many flaws. I also loved the Wildcat team, whose loyalty and friendship brought moments of warmth and humor to an otherwise dark story.

A special mention has to go to Shadow, Tara’s dog. His fierce loyalty, protectiveness, and gradual acceptance of Knox were some of my favorite parts of the book. And that final showdown (iykyk) was incredibly satisfying and worth the build-up.

Overall, Burn is a thrilling, fast-paced dark romance filled with obsession, danger, and unforgettable characters. If you enjoy morally grey leads, high-stakes tension, and intense psychological chemistry, this book is well worth picking up.

4.5/5⭐️

this story follows tara, who after a brutal acid attack that left her face covered with scars, decided to get vengeance to those who had attacked her. however, in her journey to vengeance, she became a part of the wildcats, a vigilante group focused on helping women through trauma and giving them a way to heal and escape from their pasts. they have been doing this for years, and no cop has ever thought to catch them, until a certain lieutenant comes along. here enters knox, who is a psychopath cop that is hunting down the vigilante who is eliminating criminals from his city, but while discovering what he now knows as the wildcats, he comes face to face with a criminal in a panther mask and becomes addicted to stalking her, and she decides to stalk him back…

i really enjoyed this one!!! this is my first book by this author, and wow this was INCREDIBLE! i really enjoyed the whole aspect of them stalking each other, it was so much fun reading about what the other person would do in revenge for each other’s actions! i honestly was laughing out loud at some of the scenes the reactions were so funny! i also really loved the romance between knox and tara, and how they were able to communicate and understand each other’s pasts and build up each other’s confidence and trust through their love. also i MUST talk about shadow because he was so so cute the entire story i love him. i also really loved the entire wildcats aspect, the friends between all the girls and the found family through the organization, and really enjoyed the entire mission plotline throughout the book! something i really loved about this book was that it showed that healing from trauma is never just a one-sided journey, but rather it goes in layers and takes a while to not only trust others but yourself as well. overall an incredible read definitely recommend!

Rating: Loved It 🖤

Okay, this may be Book 2, but I hadn't read Book 1 yet (don't worry, I grabbed it on sale 😏). The tropes on this one were just too good to pass up.

🖤 Dark Romance
🩸 Enemies to Lovers
🚔 Cop MMC x Vigilante FMC
🐈 Cat & Mouse Games
🔪 Stalker x Stalker
❤️ Found Family
💪 Women Helping Women
✨ Self Acceptance/Love
⚠️ Suspense Subplot

Let's be honest—the Stalker x Stalker trope is what sold me on this ARC, and it absolutely delivered. Tara and Knox constantly messing with each other felt like a flirting masked as a prank war between two unhinged people, and I was eating it up.

What really made this story stand out, though, was the contrast between them. Tara was created by trauma and failed by the justice system, while Knox was born a psychopath but raised to channel those instincts into upholding the law. Watching those two perspectives collide made this so much more than your average dark romance.

I'm convinced Knox fell for Tara almost immediately. Not just because she is beautiful, but because she was everything he'd secretly wanted to be. She showed him that even someone without a moral compass could choose to do good. And once he fell for 𝘩𝘦𝘳? It was game over. If Tara loves you, Knox will burn the world down for you. End of discussion. That level of obsessive devotion is my catnip.

Can we also talk about Shadow the Doberman? That dog stole every scene he was in. Knox's first meeting with Shadow had literal tears rolling down my face. Absolute comedy gold.

One of my favorite parts, though, was how Knox loved Tara 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒖𝒔𝒆 of her scars, not in spite of them. He saw strength, survival, and resilience where she only saw pain and loss. Watching Tara slowly learn to accept that kind of love was one of the most beautiful parts of the book.

Now excuse me while I immediately go read Book 1 because I'm not ready to leave this universe. And with Knox's partners wanting to meet the Wildcats...I'm going to need several more books, please.

Thank you, Nia and Swipe the Book, for the ARC! 🖤

4,5⭐️ OMG. She did it again!!

This one is AMAZING.
It's darker than Rage, so check the TW.

I’m a huge fan whenever a cop is involved even better when he is obsessed with the “criminal” he has to deal with.
The banter between the is really hilarious, it gives me so much fun. Their pranks are unbelievable and super enjoyable!!! As the book goes we can witness both characters develop in their better version.

Knox is a GOOD PSYCHO! He wants to deal with criminals to satisfy his hunger for blood, and she is stealing his “good time”🫠🫠🫠 he stalks her and she stalks him back!!!

The spice??? TOP TIER!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

"Do you also steal all your other suspects' underwear? Come on them?"

Tara has a traumatic past that left her with scars, she is so ashamed of them and he worshipped them:

“Scars aren't meant to be sexy. Scars are evidence of the battles you've conquered. The monsters you've slayed. They're proof of your hero-ism. I was already addicted to you before I saw your scars.”
PAINT ME IN PUDDLE. 🫠🫠🫠

Shadows only lacks of words, my big boy, MY SCARY DOG PRIVILEGE.

THIS ISN'T ONLY A STEMAY ROMANCE, THIS BOOK IS ALSO ABOUT SELF ACCEPTANCE, COURAGE TO OVERCOME A TRAUMATIC PAST and as all the books of the serie, about the FAMILY you choose.

**3.5 Stars **he first half of this book was so good!  Female rage and vigilantism, a detective who is a psychopath and then said detective and one of the female vigilantes are now stalking each other and messing with each other! The chemistry and banter was really good.Tara has been through so much and I loved how strong and brave her character is. Knox is a true psychopath and I loved how obsessed he became over Tara, how he loved seeing her scars and how he just saw how beautiful and strong she was.

But after about 50% the book got a little boring and all of the different little nicknames started getting a little annoying, it did pick up the last 15% of the book with all the action that was going on.

The book has great family vibes and I love that all of these women who have been abused in some way have come together and found a little community for themselves. Overall, I did enjoy the book.

absolutely obsessed with the world that Nia Arthurs has created, and I adore all of my Wildcat girls. One of my favorite parts was seeing how much their organization has grown since the previous books
After Samaira's story, we finally get Tara's. Seeing everything these women have been through and watching them still stand tall, stronger than ever, makes it impossible not to admire them. I am both nervous and excited for the other girls.
Knox and Tara stole my heart right from the start.
You can feel the obsession, possessiveness from the start. I really love the stalker x stalker trope. I love her lover her for her and looked beyond the scars. He obsessed with his little criminal from the start. He always put her first and would go to any length.
And shadow stole the show I love him so much!!
So excited for the other books in the series.

Thank you Nia & swipethebook PR for the ARC of Burn

3.75⭐️

While overall I enjoyed Burn something about Knox just didn't call to me as an unhinged MMC. I love an unhinged MMC as much as the next dark romance girly but Knox just didn't do it for me. He was hard to vibe with because of his antisocial personality disorder and it just kinda kept pulling me out of the story.

I however LOVED Tara and all the Wildcat ladies! They were such badass individuals and even more badass as a team of vigilantes. The Wildcat's mission of getting justice for women that the justice system has failed is such a wonderful mission and one that so many women that read romance can support. I love that Nia decided to use such an important cause as the mission for the Wildcats. The friendships/bounds between the Wildcats make my heart happy and I really look forward to seeing each of them have their own novel but especially Sloane.

This book was amazing, I jumped into book two without book one but it didn't affect my read.

I loved how unhinged they both were, the fact they were both stalkers from completly diffrent reasons. Tara a Killer who was pushed into it after trauma and Knox a sociopath guided into chaneling his obsession into putting killers away instead of being one.

Burn was everything I needed and more, the dynamic between Knox and Tara, the resilience she had was truly amazing. this read broke me and put me back together all in one. The SPICE was spicy, the banter was perfect, honestly I don't think I could say anything I didn't enjoy about this read

Nia Myst is such a phenomenal author. I'm such a fan of all of her books. First of all, how she explains how she came up with idea of Tara is so enlightening. It's how she's teaching us so many things about her culture and shows how fiction books are not just fluff.

The whole concept of the Wildcats is astonishing. It shows how strong woman can be even though we've been through adversity. I was surprised to see how Knox would infiltrate the group being a cop but it was interesting how she wrote it in.

Thanks to swipe pr and Nia Myst for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review as always, all words are my own.

When I saw this story was about two stalkers, one being a psycho cop I immediately was intrigued. I haven't read book 1 yet and didn't feel confused or have any issues following the story.

Tara is a baddie with some serious trauma and seeing her own it and grow made my lil heart so happy. She's also terrifying lol in the best way possible.

Knox is our loco lil coco but he hit me with a WHO DID THIS TO YOU and immediately won me over.

Add to your TBR if you like:
- dark romance
- stalker x stalker
- enemies to lovers
- OTT possessive man
- baddie FMC who can hold her own

eARC Review

This one hit in the best way possible when it came to the dark romance spice I freaking LIVE FOR.

The chemistry between the FMC and MMC was unmatched. Their personalities complemented each other so well, and every interaction just worked. The spice was spicy, the plot was fun and engaging, and I genuinely had such a great time reading this from beginning to end.

If you’re looking for a dark romance with incredible chemistry, plenty of heat, and a story that keeps you hooked, this one is definitely worth picking up. Oh and did I mention it's an interconnected series? Well. It is.

Vigilantes & female rage....sign me up!

Highly suggest that you read the first book in the series, Rage, before jumping into this one!

This is Tara and Knox's story. Tara is left with huge self-esteem issues after a run in with an obsessed stalker and Knox is the police chief, this makes the story quite interesting to say the least. ENEMIES TO LOVERS!!

My favorite part is the banter back and forth between the two. They play these little pranks on each other, which tended to be a little unhinged but hilarious, nonetheless. Both of these characters grow so much over the course of the book. Knox learns what love is and how it feels while Tara lets her guard down and realizes that she is fierce and capable of being loved by someone.

The star of the show is Tara's dog Shadow! We get to see more of him in this book, and I adored every minute of it. I am such a sucker for a book with a pet!

The ending wrapped up nicely and I am curious which of the ladies will have a book next?

Please check your triggers! I feel like this book is darker and more graphic than the first.

thank you to swipethebooks pr for an arc of this book. once I got invested in the story, I couldn’t put this book down, the awareness that was mentioned in reference to burn attacks on females was really nice to see brought to light. I was conflicted with the mmc being a cop (mention and important to his character a lot) while the fmc and the wildcats team doing what they’re doing because of the system not holding people accountable and the system failing victims time and time again and I think because of that it was a disconnect for me to really get attached to the characters.

overall this book has such great potential, and for the most part I enjoyed my time reading it and I would love to see this series through to know the other characters backstories and relationships.

Rating: 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 3 🌶️🌶️🌶️

Okay, I was hooked and waiting for this book ever since I first saw the teaser and the tropes, and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

Tara deserves all the love. Everything she went through absolutely broke my heart, but despite it all, she stayed incredibly strong and found a new place for her in the world. I just wanted to reach through the pages and give her the biggest hug.

Knox, my obsessed psycho cop and complete goner for Tara… he literally went to arrest her and ended up becoming completely obsessed with her. We love this shit!!!

The way he saw Tara, made her love herself, and showed her in his own way how beautiful she is was honestly so beautiful. Their relationship was unhinged, but in the best possible way. They were a perfect match for each other.

I’m giving it 4.5 stars because the spice writing pulled me out of the story a couple of times and I had to skip some scenes. Even though I love spicy books, it just didn’t personally work for me this time.

Also, the Wildcats idea feels TV-worthy. It would be so fun to get a TV show about vigilante killers!

MY KINDA FEMINIST LITERATURE !
This Book is already an infinity stars considering " Tara " is the main character herself .
Yes! We got our own Indian tech baddie guys and I am not shutting up about it !!😭😭

The plot , the writing , the spice , the chemistry , the banter chefs kiss >>>

The book follows the story of Tara who is a acid attack survivor and joined a vigilante group named Wildcats where she's basically the tech head . They work together to provide justice and eliminate any abuser /assaulter against women in their city who has been utterly failed by the legal system . She meets Knox Steele who is a cop during one of her missions and that starts what follows is the journey of crazy obsession , love (and some more missions) between them . The story is also plot heavy which is what will keep you hooked from start to end (aside from the crazy that is Knox Steele 😆).
I loved this book to the moon and back and would recommend everyone to go for it . Reading this book satisfied some inner rage inside me that opens the news channel and sees women getting assaulted or murdered by men everyday . Although it did make me sad knowing there's no Wildcats in real life to get justice for all victims of whose abusers are roaming free in this world any without consequence but it feels good to imagine a parallel universe with them in fiction.

Now that the formal stuff is over lets get to my real feeling about it !

Phew! So what can you even say about a book that left you speechless , made you cry , made you laugh and cheer for the characters? A simple rating would not justify my love and obsession with this book and I am also not sure if I am allowed to give spoilers in a review before the release so here's me trying my best to articulate my thoughts.

I am gonna start with the Wildcats because they are literally the spotlight of every book in the series and all I can say is that I have found my new home 🥹 . Their sisterhood in this book and series is EVERYTHING ! The way they care about each other and how Tara described them being there for her when nobody else was broke my heart and mended it in equal measure .
Lena , Sloane , Naomi , Samaira, Tara my new fictional sisters everyone (I also like umm have a girl crush on them👉🏻👈🏻) 😭

The author took the found family trope really seriously and made me cry buckets missing my non existent ride or die friends .

Now lets come to the real MVP of this book Shadow . I have been shouting everywhere ever since i got to know the FMC is a dog mom (doberman) that I am gonna have a dog fever I wasn't kidding 😭 And the book proved my point above and beyond . Also Knox has a different chemistry with Shadow going on which is lets say an interesting relationship 🤣 LMAO!!
Speaking of which even though our MMC is a psycopath his comedic timing literally cracked me up everytime . I mean by the end of the book Tara has got two puppies (none of whom are actually puppies ) for herself and I say that with all my love no disrespect🤣

KNOX AND TARA are just ... OH.MY.GOD 🫠.

but also,

Yes their chemistry will make you wet , Knox's inner monologues about Tara will make you sob happy tears and leave you wondering where's your Knox . The way he loves her like actually viscerally love her not JUST obsessed with her is everything .

SIR!?!?😭😭 I am not okay

And Tara my girl😭 I was so curious about her backstory and it broke my heart but I am so happy she got to have her own happy ending .The author beautifully potrayed her trauma and suffering she went through and her insecurities . She's so so strong and She deserves the WORLD and more 💜🥹. There's not many books out there about acid attack survivors in a setting like this and I think Nia Myst deserves a standing ovation for that alone .

The book peaked in plot in the last 100 pages . And I devoured that in a matter of hour because the shit was so addictive i couldn't NOT know what was going to happen and HOW . I don't know why this book isn't marketed for its action scenes because it deserves its own fanpage . They were so freaking well written and I could imagine the entire scenes playing out in my head 😩 Nia Myst you absolute genius of a woman !

With that said if you have made it to the end of my long ass rant go read the book guys ! I can't emphasize enough how much I got attached with these characters and how I am dying to know about the rest of their stories . LITERALLY CANNOT WAIT FOR SLOANE'S BOOK -

This was my first book written by Nia Myst and safe to say she has gotten a crazy fangirl who's going to read even a grocery list written by her.

I am gonna go read Rage (the first book in the series) now . Dominic and Samaira has teased me enough in Burn .

A huge thanks to Nia Myst and swipe the book PR for the giving me the opportinuty to recieve the ARC of this masterpiece . Forever grateful for that😭💜

Can I just say thank you to the author for how much light was shed on the corruption that is in this world towards women and also for giving us a vigilante group that I personally would support in real life? Because that's exactly what you get with a side of romance in the mix.

So, TECHNICALLY, this is book two in what I believe is going to be a series. I do plan on reading book one, and I did get the jist of everything in book two BUT I do plan on reading book one to understand this world a bit more. Just a trigger warning, there are mentions of violence and some dark tones in this book, but as someone that can handle many triggers, I actually applaud how the author used those darker tones to get a message across. So read the trigger warnings before you go into this.

The story begins with Tara, a woman who is part of this vigilante group called the Wildcats. Their whole purpose is to get revenge for women who have been hurt by men and these men get away with the damage they caused scot free. And Tara herself was once a victim, having been stalked by someone that wanted to date her, she said no and the guy’s response was to throw acid on her. Just to be clear, Tara got her revenge. She’s the technical component of the Wildcats, and is currently trying to bring down a Russian group that is kidnapping women to sell them off. But while she is working on that with her group, there is someone seeking information about her and the Wildcats. In comes Knox. He is a lieutenant in the police department and is currently trying to figure out who the vigilante group is that is killing off men. The thing about KNox is that he is a psychopath. Yeah, he is, point blank, a psychopath. But his mother raised him with a sense of justice and rules so that he won’t go off killing random people. And he isn’t too happy this vigilante group is doing what he would like to do.

So he tracks them down, and in the mix, meets Tara. Now. Tara’s face is only affected on one side and she mainly wears a mask that covers that side, but when Knox finally lays eyes on her entire face, the fascination for her that began on the first night they met blossoms into a full on obsession, and he will do ANYTHING to be by Tara’s side. And I mean ANYTHING!

Honestly, I was not expecting to laugh as much as I did with these two. The constant back and forth “pranks” they did to each other, the constant stalking between themselves. I mean c’mon, it was hilarious how they kept trying to one up the other. But at the same time very adorable! I really couldn’t stop awwing at the pet names Knox had for Tara, like “my fairy tale” or “my little criminal”. You could tell the dude had it HARD for her! And Tara, I loved how she not only stood
her ground but also showed him that she could also play the games he was playing to get close to her. Tara is one ball of fire that should always be protected so her flame never burns out, and that’s what Knox wants as well. Obviously they fall in love with each other, but the way they become so devoted to each other was so adorable!

And the spice, ooooh the spice was delicious! I mean, once these two began, they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. But the way they were with each other was honest and, in the way I see it, pure. Because Knox’s focus is on Tara and only on Tara. And Tara can accept the one thing she craves that she also feared because she always felt it was the cause of what happened to her, the need for someone to be so obsessed with her. And obviously Knox is, but his devotion isn’t going anywhere. Because to Knox, Tara is the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on, and I’ve got to agree with Knox there. Because it isn’t just Tara’s physical beauty that makes her beautiful, but the strength she carries inside her after everything that happened. Even though she has her personal struggles at times, she still finds a way to use it to help her help other victims, to get the revenge those victims needed.

Plot wise, I really enjoyed it. Because you get to cheer on a group of women that have gone through so much, and yet they found the strength to fight for other women that have suffered. And they are able to find happiness with each other, and in Tara’s case, happiness with Knox, and still get through those dark moments together. You really see that unity at one point of the read when they all finally start closing in on the Russians. And at the end, the author added a note of the real numbers of women harmed by acid attacks and gives some information about it since the author really wants you to understand Tara’s situation.

I plan on reading the first book for sure to get the start of it all, but so far, with just one book I am hooked and hope to read any upcoming books that are part of this world and storyline. Plus I would definitely love to see more of Tara and Knox in the background of any future characters Nia might write about.

“𝙊𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙄 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙤𝙗𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙮𝙤𝙪。 𝙊𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙄 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙗𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙮𝙤𝙪。”

I don't have enough vocabulary to define my obsession with Nia Myst' — “Burn”. But here I am to yap anyway because I just can't shut up about it now!
So this was my first read by author Nia Myst and I am officially a fan 😌utterly consumed by the way she wrote this book and its characters!! The plot, the twist, the world building and emotional depth this book holds while still holding onto its dark elements is impressive. This is one of those books where I swooned, blushed and got emotional altogether!

The story follows Tara Soni, our FMC who is a vigilante with the code name ' Shadow panther' in ‘WildCats'— An all women vigilante group that delivers justice to women who have been abused and failed by legal system. Tara is an acid attack survivor herself, the incident leaving half of her face scarred and insecure enough to hide behind a mask. Then we have our MMC - Knox Steele—A lieutenant with an antisocial personality disorder - ' A psycho ' in other words hiding behind the prestigious image of a diligent Cop.

As Tara and Wildcats keep clearing criminals off his streets, Knox notices and starts connecting the dots to the presence of a vigilante in city. Vowing to capture the criminal who dared to steal his prey, Knox immediately becomes fascinated with Tara after their first encounter and fight. What follows is a deadly game of cat and mouse as they both stalk and keep playing with one another and soon realize — some burns ignite a fire instead of leaving just scars....

What really stood out to me about Tara and Knox is that even though Knox is a psychopath who does not understand normal human emotions- both are each other's anchor. The chemistry between them feels sexy, electric yet healthy. Their obsession never feels toxic or dubious and gives way to care, respect and a satisfying dark devotion. I loved how Knox became even more obsessed with Tara after seeing her scars and how his fixation gradually built steady confidence in Tara. Author has really made her healing feel painfully real.
The topic of her trauma is handled with sensitivity and it shows - how the victim feels and how difficult it is to look in the mirror and see the aftermath of someone's cruelty on their skin. My heart broke for Tara— I found myself getting emotional whenever she recalled her suffering and felt insecure! I am so glad that Knox found Tara 😭 and that the fact he loves her so much she forgets her scars and feels beautiful again.

The found family trope is splendidly done here, I loved Wildcats - each of them felt like family rather than just side characters- Sloane and Sami are two of my favorite characters Along with Shadow -Tara's doberman baby and knox's initial headache ( or should I say leg ache 😉). Each interaction between him and Knox was hilarious and cute 😘

Knox Steele feels like the perfect dark romance MMC- his thoughts are obsessive, possessive and sometimes borderline violent- a side which he usually keeps to himself and yet beneath it all is a man who loves and cares for his people intensely. His devotion, care and obsession towards Tara is absolutely swoon- worthy! This man knows what he wants and he does not hesitate to show it. Even with his darkness, his relation with his brother and mom adds such a softness to his character. Yes, this is one of those books where MMC' parents and siblings are not only mentioned but hold a positive presence in his life. ( again impressive) He cleans, he cooks and brings her rose EVERY SINGLE day while taking her dog out for a walk. Like how can I not Love this man!? Hands down one of the best book boyfriends I've ever read about 🙌

Throughout the book, I was hooked and unabashedly invested in the story. And those last few chapters, I was a MESS of emotions. I FELT Knox's desperation for Tara ( 😭 This man! ) and that makes this book so much more than just any other spicy dark romance. Yes, there's spice but it does not overshadow the plot - something which a lot of dark romances forget but ' Burn' really stood up to it. There's plot— action, suspense, romance with emotional elements perfectly balanced together.

Overall, I LOVED this book and I am completely, Pathetically, Irrevocably in love with Knox and Tara and their baby Shadow and will not hear any word against them ( 😤) If you enjoy dark romances where both characters are obsessed with each other without toxicity, heartwarming found family vibe, a strong FMC and MMC that would burn down the world for his girl, Then ' Burn' is the best of the best you can ever pick. If you do not like this, I'll definitely judge your reading taste 🙃 and if you do love this, then bestie same!

BURN by Nia Myst | Wildcats Book 2 | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“You are the beauty to my beast."🤌😭

I don't know how to write this review without bleeding onto the page a little. So bear with me.

BURN is not just a book. It is a reckoning🤧

Tara is an acid attack survivor. Half her face carries the permanent mark of a man whose ego couldn't survive a rejection. Let that sink in.
She said no. He couldn't accept it. And she has lived in that consequence every single day since
*Maybe if I had shut it down sooner. Maybe if I hadn't given him attention at all.* Nia Myst writes that internal battle with brutal honesty and it hurts to read because we know this isn't fiction. We know women think this every day.💔

But Tara didn't stay in that blame. She became something else entirely.

She became a Wildcat🐆

The Wildcats are five women — a vigilante group🫡 These women don't wait for permission. They are the justice that never came.

And yes — it is dark. Uncomfortably, viscerally dark. The torture scenes will make you flinch. But here's what I kept asking myself:
why does the punishment feel more disturbing than the original crime?
These men walked free.
They felt nothing.
They didn't even believe they did something wrong.
So tell me what exactly is too far when the law has already decided to look away?😤

Then there is Knox🫠

Knox is a lieutenant. A psychopath. He hunts her, stalks her, can't stop watching her — and instead of bringing her in, he falls. Hard😭
And the way he falls is what wrecked me completely. He doesn't see her scars as damage. He doesn't love her *despite* them🤌
He sees them as proof of what she survived,
proof of how brave she is,
proof of the fire she carries.
He calls her his beauty. And he means it with his whole dark, obsessive, unhinged heart🔥❤️

But I haven't even told you about Shadow yet🥹

Shadow is a fighter dog who found Tara when she had nobody. He is her baby. Her safe place. Her heartbeat on the hardest nights. I cannot explain why Shadow made me feel so much but he did. He absolutely did❤️‍🩹

And then there are the four other Wildcats surrounding Tara not her blood, not her family by any traditional definition, but showing up anyway 🫂
There is something so profoundly warm about found family woven into a book this dark 🥹 it reminds you that healing doesn't always come from where you expect it❤️‍🩹

What Nia Myst has done with this series is not easy. She has taken real pain acid attacks, rape, a justice system that fails women daily and turned it into something that makes you feel everything at once.

The banter made me laugh😁
The spice made me fan myself🥵
The stalking made me nervous and excited in equal measure🫨
The rage made me want to fight😤
The love made me want to cry😭
And none of it felt forced🙂‍↔️
None of it felt like she was trying too hard🫠
Every piece was exactly where it needed to be🫡❤️

This book made me want the whole world to be a safer place for women.
It made me want the justice system to be fixed, men to take responsibility, survivors to stop carrying blame that was never theirs.
It made me want every woman to know she is more than her face value, more than what was done to her, more than the scars she carries🫂❤️‍🩹

If you are okay with the dark and please read the trigger warnings, she is transparent about them for a reason. Darkness and warmth.
Rage and love.
Obsession and tenderness.
Justice that the real world rarely delivers 🫡

And if you are somewhere in your own hard journey right now maybe this is your reminder.
Be brave enough to fight for yourself.
And trust that somewhere along the way, you will find your Wildcats too🫂❤️‍🩹

⚠️ Dark romance please check trigger warnings before reading.

Read Rage first. You will not regret it💋
