The Immortal's Mark by K.L. Kaye was unlike any romantasy I've read recently.
Set in a beautifully crafted historical world, this story follows an immortal assassin who has spent eight centuries carrying a curse that prevents her from truly dying. After being revived 644 times, she's become someone who survives rather than lives.
When her newest assignment places her in the orbit of an emperor, everything begins to change.
I loved the dynamic between these two characters. Watching an emperor and his 800-year-old assassin slowly grow closer was both heartwarming and emotional. They're both guarded in their own ways, and seeing them gradually soften, trust, and learn how to love again felt incredibly natural.
One of the unexpected highlights was the dragon living in a teapot. Equal parts adorable and chaotic, he brought so much charm and humor to the story and seemed determined to play matchmaker whenever possible.
The book balances romance, intrigue, and emotional depth beautifully. There are found family moments, dumplings (IYKYK), one-room-one-bed tension, and plenty of quiet character growth. I especially enjoyed watching a character who has existed for centuries learn what it means to be normal, to connect with others, and to want something more from life.
All that while, there's a sense that something larger is unfolding behind the scenes, creating an atmosphere of mystery and anticipation that kept me turning the pages.
If you enjoy historical romantasy, immortal characters, slow-burn romance, found family, lovable dragons, and stories about healing and second chances, I highly recommend The Immortal's Mark.
I am obsessed 😍 I have been in such a slump with nothing capturing my attention lately, but this book has healed my soul and mind 🥰 the characters are beautiful and funny, the story feels original, and the sassy dragon commentary is perfection and the mannerisms of the kitty are spot on. I am just so in love with everything about this story!! 😍 Its the slow burn I love of a c/k-drama with lots of yearning but with the comedy and sass of fourth wing, highly recommend 👌
