Situated in the middle of three large housing estates in Birmingham, with crime and vandalism all around, one small church stepped out in faith and took down the barbed wire and high walls - and saw their community begin to turn to Christ.
A very challenging and encouraging account of living by faith and trusting in God's leading on a large council estate on the outskirts of Birmingham. The honesty of Wallace and Mary Brown is very refreshing.
I had already read this book, but I was looking for an inspirational read so I decided to read it again. It starts properly (once you get past the intro) as a minister living on a troubled estate with his young family receives a visitor late one night. A young man, with a glazed look in his eyes rings the doorbell and asks him to help. Only after the minister has ushered the lad in does he realise that his visitor is holding an alarming looking knife! With his wife and children only rooms away, what should he do? Read how God deals with this situation and others like it.
I couldn't put it down. I found it challenging, but full of hope. It was great to see how God spoke into specific situations.
