Some desires can’t be buried. Especially when they run in the bloodline.

Breeding season has come to Ashfall Hollow. Orendil knows exactly what he’s doing when he wanders too close to the breeding grounds. He knows who he’ll find there: the only alpha he’s wanted for years. The one who’s always looked at him like he’s off limits. Untouchable. Not anymore—not this breeding season.

These things happen. It doesn’t mean anything. Nyric insists he’s only doing what any alpha would do—protecting a vulnerable omega. But the moment his son’s voice breaks—soft, pleading—his control snaps. Somewhere between picking Orendil up and falling to his knees, instinct wins.

Breeding season may be over, but neither can forget how right it felt to be together. The line between right and wrong has burned to ash. There is no going back, no pretending they’re just father and son. Not now. Not ever again.

The bond has taken root and instinct doesn’t play by the rules. How long can they hide the fire that burns between them from Ashfall Hollow?

Content Warning: Consensual incest, mentions of abusive parent

Kinks & Tropes: Fathercest, omegaverse, dragon shifters, age gap, size difference, secret relationship, protective alpha, heat/rut sex, mouth knotting, breeding kink, primal play

*This book does not include mpreg but the possibility exists in this world. Attempts are made, but due to low fertility rates, are unsuccessful—for now.

Odessa Hywell is a taboo MM romance author with a book addiction and coffee problem, who lives in the Southern United States with her husband, their teenage daughter, who mocks her for being short, and way too many animals.

Aside from writing and reading, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and playing video games.

Her favorite season is winter—hello, snow—but in the summer, she travels as much as possible.

Some of her favorite spots are The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, Dead Horse Point, Moab UT, Gatlinburg TN, Helen GA, Silverton CO, Roswell, NM—plus honestly, a lot more. The list is nearly endless.

A few places she plans to go in the future are New Orleans, LA and Salem, MA during spooky season, Smuggler's Notch, VT during autumn, the Colorado Mountains during the winter, New York City, Washington DC, a cruise to anywhere, on a hot air balloon ride, on a train trip down the California Coast . . .

In 2021, she decided because she is married to a twin it was best NOT to publish her books featuring twincest and other questionable themes under her married name as her husband would not approve.

I was provided with an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. These are my real sentiments about the story and everything written here is respectful, without meaning to harm anyone, but to offer my opinion as constructive criticism/compliments. Thank you, Odessa, for the opportunity!

Couple: Orendil and Nyric.

Structure: First person person, present tense, dual POV. Second book in a series.

First, I gotta say I read this book without having read the first (which I'm gonna rectify). It's perfectly understandable, although there are some things about the world-building and the dragons' histories I wish I'd gotten to know more. I'm not sure, however, if it was explained in the first book, as both stories happen at the exact same time. We do get important information at the beginning of the book, and have an index at the end with world-building explanations.

I'd never read OV with dragon-shifters before. I loved their social organization and the way they connected to nature. Also how they integrated with other mythical creatures. The community is incredible, a true family, and take us back to what we learned about originary people from colonized countries. I really loved this aspect of the story.

The main family is also incredible. Funnily enough, I didn't feel as connected to on of the MCs of the first book because I don't think he was super explored in this one. The other one, however, was, and I absolutely loved him. The brotherly bond between Orendil, Alarion and Eryndor was also amazing, just like the connection Orendil had with William and Augustus. Truly, this story is full of great characters I can't wait to read more about.

Orendil and Nyric were absolutely sweet and hot together. They were so intensely attracted to each other, and the more they can't resist that attraction, the more tender they also become. I loved to read about their sneaking around and stolen moments. The way they cared for one another was lovely. I did wish to see more of the aftermath of their mating, though. Like how their dynamic is going to change as a family and also as a community, considering Orendil became not just his father's mate, but also the mate of the community's Alpha. I'd have loved if there was more story showing us about that.

Also, the forbidden aspect, while very nicely shown and communicated between the characters, also felt like it was more in their own heads, than anything else. Like, if they can be heat/rut partners as family (even if they say it's about instinct and that would make people understand more), wouldn't it still be weird if the omega got pregnant? If it's something understandable at that moment, it seems a little too much for me that people would side-eye them for having a mating relationship LOL But I liked the way it was depicted (weird looks, but never anyone saying anything directly). I also wish we had seen how everyone reacted to their mating, given their circumstances.

I'm definitely gonna follow this series. The whole setup for Alarion, Eryndor and Teagan made me SO curious. I can't wait for their book!

Taken By My Father - Odessa Hywell
4.5/5✨🌟

* SPOILERS *

This is my first book by Odessa that I’ve read and I’m just completely hooked by her writing. The storyline was beautiful and the spice is so spicy that I know for a fact that I need more. If you’re into taboo and forbidden romances, this book is for you.

Orendil and Nyric have always had a close relationship when it comes to father and son, especially with Orendil being very needy, which I absolutely love. It gives me touch starved vibes, which is definitely one of my favorites.

When Orendil goes into heat all of a sudden in a place he shouldn’t even be, I just knew that his heat was going to be amazing. I was in love when Nyric was so good to his son - his omega. He was so tender and sweet towards him. I about died every time he called him sweetheart every time. I’m a huge sucker for endearment names.

These two were perfect from the first chapter all the way to the end.

I now need to go back and read book one and cannot wait for book three because that ending is what makes me want more.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

First, let me preface by stating that I have not read book 1, so keep that in mind when reading this review.

There was quite a bit that happened that I was confused about. While I did eventually figure most stuff out, I will read book 1 so hopefully the story makes more sense.

Orendil, an Omega dragon, has the hots for his father, Alpha Nyric. When he’s caught on the outskirts of the breeding grounds, Nyric takes him home and uses the excuse of the breeding season to ‘help’ Orendil through his heat. While part of Nyric knows it’s wrong to want to breed his son, his dragon is too possessive to care.

Nyric is concerned about telling his sons about his and Orendil’s new relationship until he considers that one of his sons is schtupping his grandfather and the other two are closer than most brothers.

There are issues with the humans and the story sets up for the next book (MMM) Bred by my Brother with the twins and a human!

*****
POV… multi first person

Standalone or series… book 2 in series suggest reading in order

Hangover… no

Recommend… yes

Reread… sure

MY THOUGHTS
Forbidden? Yes. Spicy? Yes, very. I mean, verrrrrrry. Orendil and Nyric are incredibly close, even before their relationship veers into 'my alpha'/'my omega' territory, and once that happens, all bets are off despite Nyric's half-hearted protests. What I love most about the book, though, is the world-building that Odessa has done in this series. It's phenomenal! She paints such a vivid picture of Ashfall Hollow, this dragon-shifter community that exists amongst and has to deal with the human community right outside its door. And the side characters are as equally interesting and intriguing as the two MCs, which I felt was the case in the first book of the series as well. Odessa leaves you wanting even when the book is satisfying.

BOTTOM LINE
Yes! I need to know what happens next!

I've said this once and I'll say it again - no one does c'est like Odessa. I really loved the previous book in this series and couldn't imagine anything better but this one pushes just past - barely.
One of the things that I really loved about both of these books is the amazing world building that the author does. Throughout the stories I literally feel as if I'm right there with the characters. I can feel the wind and smell the earth and rain - it's like being transported to a new place and reality. I can easily believe in a hidden community, high in the mountains somewhere, where paranormal beings live and work, side by side.
The cast of characters are as real as anyone in RL. I felt their pain, their struggles, and shared in their joys. Nyric is an absolutely perfect Alpha dragon and leader of Ashfall Hollow. I loved how he struggles to walk the razor's edge between doing what's best for the Hollow and his family, and being true to the feelings he has for his son, Orendil. Orendil may be a relatively young omega dragon but he knows what he wants - and what he wants is his father. And this is the part where Odessa really shines as an author. The burgeoning relationship between father and son is handled in such a beautiful manner and never crosses into that "ick" factor that a lot of c'est writers do. There's honest struggle to accept, lots of communication, and then she hits it out of the ballpark with enough heat to melt your device.
To say that I loved this story - that you need to read it - words don't really express just how good this is and how much I honestly recommend this series. Seriously, one of the best pair of books I've read so far this year and I can't wait for the next book - which focuses on the twin brothers of Orendil. I'm also secretly hoping for a book or two with a couple of secondary characters - Halderon, I'm looking at you! 😁

This is definitely a bold, taboo read—so if that’s not your thing, this one won’t be for you. But if it is… you’re in for a ride 😈

This is book two in the Kinbound series and runs alongside book one, but it works fine as a standalone.

Nyric, the Alpha of the Horde, has a lot on his plate—tensions with humans, responsibilities at the Hollow during breeding season, and the weight of leadership. He’s stretched thin, and you really feel that pressure.

Then there’s Orendil—his son, and easily the neediest of the bunch. Their bond has always been close, but it’s clearly shifted into something more complicated. When breeding season kicks off, everything escalates fast, and what starts as instinct and necessity turns into something neither of them can ignore.

I really enjoy this world. The different shifters, the Hollow setting, and the dynamic between the brothers all make it super easy to get lost in. It’s immersive and chaotic in the best way.

That said, while the attraction and tension are definitely there, I did find myself wanting a bit more emotional depth between the characters. I wanted to see them lean on each other more and really build that connection beyond the intensity.

Overall though, it’s a consuming, high-intensity read with strong world-building and a storyline that keeps you hooked. I’m still really excited to see where the series goes next—especially for the upcoming characters

I absolutely love these together. The taboo in the Ashfall Hollow village it’s happening everywhere. Nyric and Orendil in my opinion already acted like a couple. They just need the breeding season to happen. To open up their desire for each other. Orendil character I like that he helps Nyric from the very beginning you see him, tried to calm him. And make sure he’s resting and taking care of himself. For Nyric he obviously is a good father to his hatchlings. But he’s also good at taking care of Orendil. He also can tell when he needs something and can read him very well. The spice was phenomenal as always in these books that Odessa writes. And for the siblings, they are close. And you can see how they protect each other and will keep each other secrets. There is Augustus and William these twins are best friends with Orendil. Their relationship is just so close that they literally tell everything to each other. I like the fact that you get to learn more about the twins that are Nyric hatchlings. Also others in AshFall Hollow because you see little snippet of them and you just wanna know their story. And I cannot wait for the next book because there is gonna be more drama happening in the AshFall Hollow.

Set in a vividly built dragon-shifter world, this story dives into forbidden desire, instinct, and the tension between duty and longing.

When breeding season begins, Orendil knowingly crosses a line he can’t uncross—seeking out the one alpha he’s always wanted. Nyric, a powerful leader torn between responsibility and overwhelming instinct, tries to frame it as necessity… but what happens between them is anything but simple.

What follows is an intense, emotional push and pull as both men grapple with what they’ve done and what they still want. The story leans heavily into atmosphere and world building, making Ashfall Hollow feel immersive and real, while the relationship itself is handled with surprising care focusing on conflict, communication, and emotional weight as much as heat.

It’s bold, taboo, kink heavy and not for everyone, but for those like me who enjoy darker, boundary-pushing romance, it delivers a deeply consuming story with high intensity and a strong sense of place. Odessa's writing is oh so wrong but temptingly right!
I received a free arc and this is my honest review

I really loved this one and actually enjoyed it a bit more than the first. There's some overlapping events, so it may help to read in order, but you could probably also read this one first without getting too lost. Orendil and Nydric have been dancing around their desire for each other for a while, but it isn't until a certain incident happens that Nydric finally acts on it. I really liked the angst that brought a bit of tension after the haze cleared when Nydric was fighting over his feelings of guilt and love for Orendil. It gave it a nice bit of depth and Orendil was there waiting patiently for daddy dearest to give into what they both want. These two are hottt and their spice was *chef's kiss* in my humble opinion. I also really loved the side characters including all of Orendil's brothers.

The only thing that was teased (and I would've loved) was a sharing scene with Orendil's best friends. I can't wait to see what's up with the twins and hope to go back to Ashfall Hollow soon!

ARC REVIEW

🐉Taken by my Father by Odessa Hywell🐉

Release Date: April 1st

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Nyric & Orendil freaking hotness! Holy breeding/knotting kink Batman!

Their bond has always run deep and the two have been close, even for father and son. But they never acted on their urges until Orendil wanders where he shouldn’t during breeding season and is thrown into heat.

I absolutely enjoyed reading Nyric & Orendil’s story. The way Nyric takes care of his omega with all the tenderness of an alpha while still his farther is so sweet. But this alpha will become feral and take care of his omega like his mate when the need arises. And oh boy does it rise (multiple times 🔥🔥🔥)

This is book 2 of the Kinbound series and definitely should be read after book 1. There is some overlapping in the storyline from book 1 and works well to keep the overarching plot moving forward. I am definitely ready for book 3 and for ALL of the secrets to finally be revealed. Hopefully.

This is a Tab00 story with 🩸 Father/Son so if that's not your thing then I suggest you skip this one....if it is...😈

This is also Book 2 in Kinbound Series, the books are written as stand alones so they do not need to be read in order and this book actually happens on the same time line/running parallel to book 1

🌶🌶🌶🌶

Nyric is the current Alpha of of the Horde after his father stepped down to focus on other pressing matters. Poor Nyric has ALOT going on right now with humans pressing the boundaries, the Hollow being the hosts for breeding season, having to partake in breeding season himself, as well as everything going on with his son's...the man is STRESSED.
Orendil is one of Nyric's sons and by far the neediest. He has always been close with his father but lately that closeness has developed into something more. Orendil knows his father would never cross any lines with him...at least without a little push...so just before the breeding season "party" (😉) starts Orendil goes to visit his father but he gets thrown into a heat while approaching all the Alpha's. To basically protect Orendil from all these other Alphas Nyric has to "help" Orendil through his heat. Once the haze of everything clears we find out that Orendil isn't the only one who has developed more then familial feelings but now the two have to figure out how to move forward.
I love this world! I loved all the different Shifters and Paranormal types they have at the Hollow, and the sassy relationship all the brothers have is just awesome. This is really just an easy world to get lost in for a bit! To say I'm excited for Alarion, Eryndor and Teagan's story though would be an understatement! Eeek can't wait!

This was hot, steamy, and very sweet as well.
Orendil's heat is on him and his instincts are screaming at him that the only safe Alpha is his father, Nyric.
Nyric tries to fight his own instincts, but he can't bear to see his son suffering.
As they share his heat, their passion and chemistry explode into scorching heat.
Both try to move on after, filled with doubts and fears, convincing themselves it was only to help Orendil through his heat.
They've opened a proverbial Pandora's box and now nothing can ever be the same.
They try to hide their developing relationship from everyone else until they're ready because of fear of recriminations, but this community has proven to be very accepting of these types of relationships.

Odessa was so generous to not make us wait very long to get the details on Orendil and Nyric! This story run concurrently with Taken by my Grandfather. But this time we got the scoop on all the sneaking around with the Ashfall Hollow alpha and his hatchling. I enjoyed the will they, won’t they pull after the first heat and was delighted with who caved first! I’m still a little bummed with this series, I’m not feeling the emotion between the couples. The attraction is there, absolutely! But the emotional connection past the existing one doesn’t feel developed enough. They aren’t sharing and relying on each other enough. Still a very enjoyable read and can’t wait for the next book!

I have been impatiently waiting for this since Claimed by my Grandfather. Odessa does cest amazingly and I love her work so much. Even for shorter books, the world building is phenomenal! Orendil and Nyric are so HOT together!! Orendil has wanted his dad for so long and pushes the boundaries often until he goes into heat and Nyric’s only option is helping out. Nyric struggled with the idea of being with Orendil more than I actually expected but I loved it! I loved hearing the back and forth in his inner monologue. I also love seeing all the other characters and getting a big hint as to the events that will happen in book 3!!

Orendil and Nyric story was hot and intense with a side of insecurities and doubts thanks to their blood connection.
It was interesting to see the events from their perspective and how meshed with the previous story.
It has doubts, insecurities, a lingering danger, decisions, as bit of regret, new experiences, and so much more.
Their chemistry is off the charts and I really liked when they began to be truthful about their feelings.
It was amazing and I can’t wait for the next adventure.

Quick on the tail of the last one, you don't get to feel like you need a refresher to get into this. The characters speak for themselves, but it was nice being able to associate them from the last book to this one
Ever since I read that scene in the office from caelan and sooty's book, I felt like I needed this one.
I liked that it was lustful at the beginning but more of a cat and mouse game, until orendil's heat hits and the mouse finally lured the cat.
It gets hot very fast and keeps going.
It's got a nice overarching story line and I cannot wait for the twins in the next one.

I loved the second book in this series. Again Odessa Hywell brings passion and all the steam to this taboo relationship. The world that Nyric and Orendil live in is much more accepting of “out-of-the-box” relationships. They still feel the need to protect the growing relationship until they are ready to share what has grown between the father and son. I love all the side characters and can’t wait for the next book. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy!

So excited to finally get Orendil and Nyric's story, and it's just as spicy and good as book 1. There are the usual doubts and push-and-pull forbidden emotions after the first heat, but ultimately, father and son couldn't resist each other and I'm so happy to see them work out (and of course they would).

Odessa never disappoints this was sooo good.
Back in Ashfall Hallow for Orendil and Nyric this was great the way Odesa writes has you immersed in the story.

Nyric is the Alpha Dragon leader of Ashfall Hallow when his son Orendil knowing he will find him has a plan and ends up close to the breeding grounds and the feelings they have for each other can’t be ignored any longer.

Eeekk I loved every second of their story odessa really is one of the very best cest writers that exists!!
All the characters are so well written and I can’t wait for the next one.

When Orendil heat hits, he knows he has to go to the one man that makes him feel safe, his father Nydric no matter the consequences.
Nydric tried to fight it, but his son needs him and he can’t see him in need like that.

A story that runs concurrently with book one and has an overlapping story arc, this is taboo at its best. With warring emotions, doubts and fears, Orendil and Nydric succumb to their love irrespective of the circumstances.
I’m so looking forward to the next book.

So I actually like this book better than book one which I also loved. Orendil and Nyric are hot and absolutely adorable together. This story doesn’t have a ton of plot, it’s mostly the same issues as book one but from a different perspective. The only thing I didn’t like was the implication of sharing.
We also get more inside info of Orendil’s brothers the twins. I’m hoping their book is next and I would also LOVE to read about the witch twins as well.
