Overpowered Demon Lord Slayer #1

Overpowered Demon Lord Slayer: A Litrpg OP MC Comedy Slice of Life

Rate this book
Harrick Gallow spends a century as the strongest warrior alive, though only the elites know he exists.

He kills dragons when they attack the countryside, defeats necromancer hosts of hundreds of thousands of undead, slaughters beast tides that threaten to swallow the kingdom whole, and saves humanity time and again. He breaks past the impossible Level 99 barrier and reaches Level 105, something long believed to be unattainable.

Recently, he kills the Demon Lord. Except, unlike before, no one has an inkling that the Demon Lord is dead yet.

He wants to keep it that way.

Harrick Gallow is tired of politics, wars, endless campaigns, and people looking at him like a weapon and treating him like one. He is tired of the rot that fills the courts of kings and emperors. More than anything, he wants to rest and stop marching toward death and destruction.

So he does exactly that.

Harrick Gallow, now Garrick Hallow, leaves the known world behind. He abandons the capitals and retires to a frontier town, where he opens a repair and herb shop and maybe… just maybe builds a family for himself.

Yet that is far easier said than done when you are the strongest person alive.

Being ordinary is not something he is used to.

Worse, trouble has a habit of following him wherever he goes. This time, though, he intends to keep his identity hidden while protecting his loved ones, his neighbors, a dog so loyal it practically leaks devotion, and a cat of unquestionable royalty that has claimed a broken crate as its throne—and Garrick’s shoulder whenever the crate is unavailable.

Come for the slice of life. Stay for the mysteries, misfiled miracles, and quietly stubborn hope that someone as powerful as Garrick Hallow can do what he likes and not what others want.

This book felt tired of hopeful expectations

It was a fun story but the craftsmanship left a bit to be desired. Nobody goes around thinking the door felt like a myriad of stubbed toes and dirty fingers. They just think wow the door sticks.

The amount of alliteration in this book way exceeds an acceptable level. Every alliteration used pulls the reader out of the story to think about the context. A few can be fun. Many are annoying.

a warm story of a op character trying to relax

I had fun reading this book. The cat was my favorite character. This op character ends up at a small town to start a new life. Is adopted by a cat and a dog as well as the rest of the small town.

Lots of fun at the expense of the MC

A fresh and very enjoyable slice of life story. It is well written using descriptive language that often feels like you are in the story.

There are serious tales that alternate with light hearted and even funny moments.

There are a few editing errors but they do not detract from the story.

The MC has spent a lifetime fighting, growing in power and defeating every opponent. Now he wants to live a quiet, normal life far away from where he is known.

He tries really, really hard to be normal. His true strength slips through a few times but he still makes friends and slowly builds a new life. If he could stop just the village goat from eating his laundry maybe he could be content.

The village/town garrison commander recognizes the MC and spends a lot of time worrying. He tells his 2nd in command a couple stories of the MC but we never hear of the 2nd again. That could be foreboding.

A very slice of life book but over half of it is overly sarcastic descriptions. What do I mean by this? Here is the literal first sentence of the book:

"The rain fell with the grim determination of a bureaucracy that had been given a mandate and intended to see it through regardless of public opinion, personal comfort, or the structural integrity of anything below it."

Expect that but for almost every single sentence for the entirety of this book. If you enjoy that then this book is for you. I will give the author credit while the themes of these descriptions do overlap or repeat the actual wording does not. With how many are in here I'm seriously impressed.

Standard powerful person goes to small town to get away from it all. Messes up a lot of stuff cause he doesn't know what normal actually is. The characters are mostly just there and you really only get a sense for the main character. Again most of this book is sarcastic descriptions.

There is no romance in this book, and I applaud the author on this, but I really hope the author doesn't plan to pair the 18 year old with the 150+ year old. Doesn't seem like it but usually these books have the main love interest in the first book.

Not much really goes on in this book. While the sarcastic descriptions take up most of it the rest is basically him fixing up his store front.

My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion, so please respect mine.  This is merely my view, so let's keep it courteous. My review is honest and voluntary.

Better than the author's other series, but some things bothered me. The neighbors are way too noisy, and he doesn't say anything. I do get that he wants to look normal, but he takes it to extremes! I didn't really get why retire in a town like that.....anyway, the book is not awful. But would like it if the characters created by this author had more personality; they feel generic. I also believe that a joke is funny the first time, but if you keep using it over and over, it gets annoying. (Referring to the lawyer) I think this author is just not for me.

On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

A great tale, well told, that could be better if polished.

I loved this story.

It was well written, with the kind of descriptive prose and characterisation I would expect from Sir Terry Pratchett. In many ways, I'd like to think that this is how he would have written a litRPG tale - with heart, warmth, and a keen understanding of people.

It is unfortunate then that at times the construction fails - typos creep in, sections of text are missing, predicates are repeated. These can be glossed over, but they cause rough patches in the smooth tapestry of the tale, places where you stop being immersed and start thinking about the words.
If these segments could be cleaned up by a good copyeditor, this would be a great, rather than good, story.

But still, I loved it.

yikes

I am leaving this review like a patron leaves an establishment after getting food poisoning.
Sick.
In shock.
But not full of the ailments they purged from their stomach with the efficiency of a baby that just drank too much milk.
I read the beginning of this with the expectations a traveler has when visiting a new city, but was left with disappointment like when a famished person walks 30 minutes to find the restaurant already closed.
The author’s writing wants to be edgy and cool like something that is cool and edgy, but leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth like a piece of fruit that was allowed to ripen for too long.

Good attempt at a slow life

This whole book is about an over leveled person trying to fit into a normal life. He is tired of fighting and just wants to open a store. I thought this book was good. The slow life was good. His attempt to fit in was funny. I liked the way we were shown that attempt. I loved the dog and cat. I enjoyed seeing the life that the mc was building and the shape it was taking. I will definitely be reading more.

Wholesome and Uplifting Undercurrent

The descriptions and commentary at first were too convoluted as well as too many. I skipped through a third of the book, most at the beginning chapters, because of them.

I hope the author starts to refine the long descriptions/commentary as to hook the reader instead of testing the reader's resolve to continue reading.

The undercurrent is wholesome and uplifting enough for me to look forward to the next book. Author, please continue.

intresting

This book was very interesting to read and unlike some other books that say “cant be put down”, it took a lot of effort to put down as the chapters are very engaging. If you like fantasy stuff, you should definitely read this book. I, as a person, find it really hard to find new books, but this author, impressive is an understatement. This book… I have run out of words to describe it, (Or maybe my brain is not working), in my opinion, this book is a must read. =)

Great writing.

This book was fabulous. Been a long time since I chuckled threw a book that was well written. Descriptions were delightful and used words like a paint brush flowing for a painter. It describes cat to the tee. I hope to see more books like this that have weight to them and not all about the sex. loved it loved it loved it.

What a delight. Sure the author doesn't know the difference between "to" and "too" but the character work is divine. So nice to see an OP protagonist with social anxiety — interpersonal weaknesses that he's concerned about and working on.
Is it weird that I got as much out of the pets' lives as I did out of the human side characters?

Excellent beginning

SeanS3r3s has fast become one of my favorite authors. The use of humor, language and intellect in these stories is wonderful. When I read these books, I feel smarter …. :). The characters are, interesting, the plot is like sitting by the fire with a good mug of your favorite drink, talking with a friend, and knowing it’s all good.

2.5/5

Considering how most of this book was filling out forms and paperwork, I think this is a pretty high rating. There were some funny snarky moments with the animals but it was so boring. I love cozy slice of life litrpg stories. This one failed because it focused too much on paperwork versus him opening his shop

It's ok but has to much AI

I thought this was an ok read. I like how an over powered guy tries to retire in a little community and tries his best to fit in only to have to deal with paperwork. The biggest downside however is that this story is obviously written with AI.

Just Right!

A great story with just the right touch! I wanted a story to relax with at a time where events do not seem to allow such wishful thinking. One of these every week or two may be my next go to.🙂

droll. entertaining. different

Writing ok, characters, plot, scenes, problems, are just too manufactured to be believed. It is a feel-good book, that is a fun read. I’m unfamiliar with this particular genre. 4 stars

style not for everyone

Author seems to like flowery prose. Comparative descriptions for what feels like every sentence. I’m on chapter 2 and i am enjoying the story. The authors writing style does pull my attention away from the plot, though.

A great read

I truly enjoyed this book, generally books of this type follow a certain path. This one was funny, had a great cast of characters, both human and non human. That cat made the whole book lol.

DNF at 69%

Sadly, both the MC's sthick and the absurd bureaucracy got rather tiresome after a while. While the story was cute, nothing interesting happened to keep me invested and interested. The cute dog, the obnoxious cat and the gluttonous goat couldn't save the pot for me..

another ai-like book

The very first sentence tips you off this probably wasn’t written by someone living. Edge lord meets one of those robots with sunglasses from the matrix. Every character sounds the same, no development, just obnoxious. Find a different book.

Ai story with a bunch of Paid AI reviews.

The amount of ai copy and pasted reviews on this novel that could be about any novel made me curious, buts it’s just another fully ai written story. The same 3 lines describing the same thing a different way over and over.

Enjoyed this book immensely.

To get me to wish there is a follow-up takes some doing but this author managed it. So.... get your copy and enjoy it.
Life is short and reading a book you enjoy is one of life's little pleasures. 5 stars well deserved.

AI.
It didn't have a lot the repetitive ai phrasing that I usually see, but every inanimate object was described as it it was alive and had feels, I knew more about their emotional state than the people.

This was a lovely little slice of life

Although it was really more than a slice since it was the whole book. No fighting or character growth, but still fun and engaging. My one critique is that it could have used editing.

Loved this book...

Excellent slice of life story that hit just right. Love the authors use of metaphors. Not too over the top but enough to engage the imagination, which is exactly right for a good story. Thank you SeanS3r3s.
