When Phoebe Cole woke to find that her eyes had changed, she guessed the vivid violet that shone from her face would turn her world upside down. But never in her wildest dreams could Phoebe have imagined the world she is about to enter – a world where she was the monster. Torn between the security of the past and the pull of the unknown, Phoebe makes the hardest decision of her existence, turning her back on an ordinary life - including Ben, Fran and her dying mother - for one filled with mystery... and Judd. When Judd introduces Phoebe to the rogue Cambions, she begins to question everything she thought she knew about herself. What is it about Judd that awakens dark urges and animalistic fantasies inside of her? How could she want someone so rude, arrogant, and aggressive? Everything that Ben isn't. Judd shows her what it means to be a Cambion, inviting her into a life where magic, spells, fighting and shifting are the norm. But what does it mean for Phoebe? Where does she fit in? Phoebe looks deep within herself and discovers truths she never even knew existed. But danger is coming. Will all of the Cambions live to fight another day and change the fate of their kind? Now Phoebe has awoken, the only thing left to do, is Rise.
I loved the pace of Violet Rising and the banter between Judd and Phoebe. For me, the moments between Phoebe and Judd were where Violet Rising came into its own, taking the characters we had become intrigued by in Violet Awakening and taking them to a new level. My goodness, the chemistry between these two is sizzling. I liked the supporting characters in this book - Kane is adorable. Viktor and Len are intriguing. I am looking forward to getting to know them all better in book 3.
