Sometimes life goes off the rails, despite a person’s best efforts. Susannah Lee Walsh knows this all too well. With her father in and out of mental institutions for the past ten years, life is panic with episodes of calm. But when two men show up saying her dad is from an alternate world in a different dimension, she thinks she might be losing her mind.
And they want to take him home.
Crazy turns to bizarre, when Sulee goes in her father’s place to the world of Elmwyn, where magic is called the Charism, mythical beings are everywhere, and all of it is dangerously real. Her father served as a Weaver of magic, until evil stepped in and changed everything. Now she’s expected to fill the shoes of her father, the greatest Weaver who ever lived.
But the dark Wraithknot stands in her way, casting a net of horror upon innocent lives in her father’s absence. She must stop him and put right the damage he’s done. But the Wraithknot is not what he seems, and Sulee wonders if she has what it takes to defeat him. She’s not the only one; the people of Elmwyn have their doubts too.
This story is full of amazing places and imagery, I really felt like I was the one on the journey through Elmwyn along with Sulee, Desmond, Asa and Eric. It's a parallel world full of Charism, what we call magic basically, and it's up to Sulee to save this new world she's basically forced to save because of her own heritage. But can she? The story is full of whimsical creatures, breathtaking landscapes, and mortal danger around every corner. With a dark sorcerer after Sulee because of what she represents, time is running out for her to figure it all out. I didn't want the story to end, it was that engrossing.
I really enjoyed how this adventure was rich with three-dimensional characters who slowly let you inside their heads but never let go. Each person and creature are extraordinary and the journey through the treacherous land of Elmwyn never disappoints with constant surprises, secrets, obstacles, and of course, magic.
I immediately started book 2 because I need to know what happens next. If you love fantastical fairy tale like rich storytelling, you'll love this series.
