After surviving a recent assassination attempt in the capital, Eizo worries that he and his family might someday need to flee from enemies trying to invade the forge. They decide to investigate a possible escape route out of the Black Forest, and that can mean only one thing—it’s time for a camping trip! But given the forest’s dangerous reputation and the threat of another attempt on Eizo’s life, this journey through the wilderness could be quite harrowing. As they trek deeper into the murky woods, they stumble across Latifa, a spirit who asks for help with a deadly A tree monster is lurking in the shadows and wreaking havoc on anything that wanders nearby! With the lives of forest dwellers on the line, can the resident smith and his family grind their arboreal foe to a pulp? Or will this new, powerful enemy utterly stump them?

Kinda meh. but the post Diana centric vignette was awesome.

Time for the whole family to go on a camping trip. Looking at the stars comes up a few times.

For some reason, the hot-spring raccoon mentioned in a few books back joins them and tries to teach the wolf dog what herbs are.

But the Diana and Hellen chapters are great.

Diana is best girl after all.

Bit short, but otherwise fairly typical slice-of-life cosy blacksmith life, although this time with relatively little smithing. The main story is mostly about the group traveling through the Black Wood and the second part about Diana helping her brother and the Kingdom deal with a potential threat by joining a sword fighting tournament for women. Fitted expectations, so an enjoyable read, felt a bit like a filler volume, but I don't feel that is too bad for a series like this.
