Mint Condition

Brian Nixon

Dan Phillips is a single dad, a lifelong Yankees fan, and a baseball card collector whose best days feel like they’re behind him. Between raising two kids on his own and selling cards at shows to help out with finances when needed, he’s settled into a comfortable routine — the kind that keeps life manageable but never quite exciting.

Henli Dunston wasn’t looking for anything when she walked into a card show in Lad Vegas with her best friend and a suitcase full of her late father’s baseball cards. She was just trying to sell a collection from a man she’d grown apart from long before he died. She definitely wasn’t looking for a guy who’d offer to help a stranger for no reason at all.

But one rookie card in mint condition changes everything — and not just financially. As Dan helps Henli navigate the world her father left behind, they discover that the real value isn’t in the cards. It’s in the connections you make when you stop keeping score.

A warm, funny, and deeply moving story about grief, second chances, and the unexpected ways people find their way to each other. With baseball woven through every chapter like the stitches on a ball, Mint Condition is for anyone who’s ever believed that one swing can change everything.
