Idk why I keep picking up this writer’s works, knowing I have yet to enjoy a book by him. I always get a book that’s either 2 stars or DNF. I just wanted to see how this subject would be handled. I brought it on myself, really.
Todd is homeless with a 5 year old son. Why? Because by his own admission, he’s not even as smart as said son. They stayed a few nights at a shelter but it’s never said why they left. Even in a semi-large town there are assistance programs. He could’ve easily gone to a public library and asked to use a computer to apply for assistance and jobs. And there’s a neighborhood homeless bully (I promise I didn’t make that up) who keeps trying to kidnap Todd’s son because he’s mentally ill. Todd could easily lie and tell the police a story about the homeless vagabond that tries to snatch his kid every time he sees them. Or again, go to a shelter! And he’s holding his son back by not having him in school and sleeping in the woods. There is nothing wrong with being homeless, and I know it’s hard. But it’s not that Todd was having a hard time, it’s that he didn’t even try. Every time he lost a job it was back to the woods. Also, plot hole: he said he lost his possessions when the store owners whose business he lived above retired and shut down. Jamie makes a single phone call and said store owners are still there and so is all his stuff.
And again, a case of an MC with “hero syndrome” where he comes to the rescue and fixes up the other MC’s life. Jamie ignores the fact that Todd is clearly slow in favor of being attracted to him. Within about a couple of weeks the crush he hasn’t seen in 15-20 years is now the love of his life.
Nothing more is said about the homeless bully who magically finds Jamie’s house to track down Todd and his son and is covered is open, infected wounds that can be smelled from a distance and gets after another attempt to kidnap Todd’s kid. What was wrong with him? Did he die? Did he go to jail?
Also, after not only attending a university but also working nearly a decade in an academic division of a college, and sometimes helping to create curriculum, I find it strange that Jamie and his colleagues were allowed to upload fake exam material in hopes of catching cheaters. You have to provide the class and exam materials online so that any student in your class can access it. Just reading about this was annoying.
I really love that I can count on Andrew Grey to give me a sweet quick read that is going to touch my heart and he’s definitely delivered with this one! I really enjoyed Jamie and Todd and Kenny too and their heartwarming story!
Todd is a single father who ended up homeless after losing his job, he’s trying to do best for his son but it’s hard. After the police raid the park area he’s been staying at he hides with his son and as the area clears he recognizes Jamie, who he knew from high school, and takes a risk and steps out from behind the tree. Jamie is a college professor out for his lunchtime walk with his dog when he sees the police clearing the park, and then he sees Todd and Kenny. He can’t help but try to help them and he brings them back to his place.
The two reconnect and find friendship and also that the crushes they had in high school are still there and more. But Jamie doesn’t want to rush things, he knows Todd is in a tough position and genuinely wants to help him. I liked how things did progress between these two, it wasn’t drawn out or dramatic but genuine and caring. They both end up helping each other and finding a sweet love in the process. A great, touching story that was quick but meaningful and I really enjoyed it from start to finish!
Jamie is walking his dog one day and discovers Todd who he knew in high school. (We even get some memories from then) Todd is hiding with his 5 year old son after the cops had clear out homeless camp that was in place got complaints about. Jamie takes them home with him giving them food and a place to stay.
Todd fell on hard times after losing two jobs because downsizing and one went bankrupt. He's been trying get another but everything going into keeping his son safe. Jamie helps him so much by just being a friend and giving the place stay.
We do have some drama on both sides on the outside the relationship that they build. Jamie's with his work as professor at Dickerson college. Also a guy from one the camps has his eye on Kenny claiming he's his when he's not. All gets resolved thankfully with no injuries, but Kenny does have nightmares from what happens.
I loved their friendship and how Jamie helps with Kenny. We get to see Carter and Donald who I adore so much since this is set in Carlisle world. Loved Jamie's neighbor. Another excellent book by Andrew. Just released this month so go and check it out.
This was a good, quick read (only 100 pages) with decent characters and well-done setting. In this one, a college professor has a chance encounter with an old friend who is down on his luck and is trying to keep his 5-year-old son safe from a stalker. Jameson Kline recognizes Todd Morris from when he had a crush on him back in high school, plus they had a couple of junior college classes together, then Todd dropped out of sight–until now. Living in a tent in a park with his son, he has nowhere to go and no way to get there. Jameson takes them both in, offering a safe haven until Todd can get things together. But a stalker from the homeless camp thinks Todd’s son is his and comes after them. They manage to thwart the attempt and life settles down. Meanwhile, with help from Jameson and others, Todd manages to find a good job and is slowly getting his life back on track. The two of them realize that they have more than an old friendship going on and open their hearts to possibilities. A couple hot scenes and a satisfying ending make this a romance to read and enjoy.
This is a charming story of unexpected love. Jamie was walking his dog in the park when he came across a group of people being removed from a homeless encampment in the park. As he continued down the path, he came across Todd and his five year old boy, Kenny. Jamie, a college professor, knew Todd from high school and could not see leave the pair to continue to rough it when he had a spare room at home.
He invited them to his house and slowly the three began to intertwine their live. The secret crush that Todd had for Jamie in high school could be revealed and now feelings were mutual. This story has some danger, challenges, and a slow burn romance. It's the perfect, comfortable novella for an evening's read.
Jaime finds Todd and his son, Kenny, homeless and surviving. Jaime then recognizes him from school years ago. He won’t leave them like that and brings them home with him. Jaime helps them out, getting the programs and aid they need. Bit by bit, they admit their attraction back in school, and this is their opportunity to see if the feelings are real. It’s a lovely tale of rescue and rekindled romance. The characters are realistic, and the sexy times are hot ! The story has an HEA. ENJOY !
Another great book from Andrew Grey! The book is well-written. The characters are relatable and three dimensional. It’s an honest and refreshing look at homelessness. It’s too bad that reality rarely plays out like the story. Todd, Jamie and Kenny do get their HEA in the end!
With a contemporary themed storyline, a few new characters, visits from a few more known characters and a touch of drama, this book fits in well with the growing community of stories from the Carlisle area. Ends on a positive and promising note.
When Jamie sees an old school friend living on the streets he doesn't hesitate to take him and his little son in, especially when there's a weirdo trying to take the little boy away. This is a sweet tale of overcoming and starting over, touching story.
Une petite nouvelle d Andrew Grey tranquille de deux qu on ferme apres lecture et qu on oublie... certains de ses romans m ont marque, j ai peut trop esperer de ce livre
Too fast and easy to be believable… And how are we supposed to think Todd raised Kenny by himself for so long when he can’t take a decision without Jamie’s input? 🙄
