The past has a stranglehold on Colorado mountain detective David Wolf and his team, and unraveling loose ends will prove deadly.
Just as Wolf's detective returns to the squad from his injury and addiction troubles, a dangerous man from the past comes back into town, only to be found burned to a wind-blown cinder the next day. Called to the scene, Wolf follows a trail of evidence pointing to southern Colorado, and another closer to home leading straight to his own squad.
Meanwhile, pressure to find a victim’s body in a previous case is mounting to an all-time high, and any failure spells certain doom to Wolf and his team’s careers, leaving them is this the end of the line for Sluice-Byron County’s finest detectives?
Wolf and his team follow the scent of truth into dangerous territory, and to a showdown that will make losing their jobs look like a welcome respite compared to what’s in store.
The next pulse-pounding adventure is here starring David Wolf and his lovable team of detectives. If you like mystery, thrillers, adventure in the high country of the Colorado Rockies, complex characters, and plots that keep you guessing you'll love the David Wolf series. *This novel is a standalone story.
Jeff Carson is from the Front Range of Colorado where he lives with his wife and two sons. His David Wolf series of books takes place in the fictional ski town of Rocky Points, Colorado.
I was lucky to come across Jeff Carson and his David Wolf series. I devoured all 18 books and was happy to not have to wait long for this 19th book. As always the familiar characters are there and what Jeff has done was to vividly create characters who you can just picture and know so well. They aren't perfect, neither is Wolf but maybe that's what makes them so endearing and annoying. . The writing is so good, original, creative storylines that keep you captivated. And this story was no different. Threw in some cartel and pretty bad characters in this book. No repetitions, a dead body and a conclusion that left me in tears. The David Wolf series I feel are a must read. Have recommended this series to friends and family and now you!
After reading all of the David Wolf series books, I have felt invested in the characters. However, Wind Burn did not have the same feel as the previous ones. There didn't seem to be any real heart and soul from the characters. This book was okay but a little disappointing.
One of Det Wolf's detectives (Yates) is back on the job after a prolonged absence from an injury and addiction issues. Then someone from Yate's past comes back to town, ends up dead (burned to a crisp) and Yates is on leave again for an altercation they had.
The death however is linked to missing cartel drug money. Two killers are in town hunting it down and members of the Sheriff's dept are in their crosshairs as they are in the middle of investigating the murder case. Add that to the search for the missing body of a victim in a previous case (son of a Senator), Wolf is stretched thin.
It's an ok police procedural mystery but the descriptions online call it "pulse pounding" which it wasn't for me.
Jeff Carson, you did it again! Another outstanding book in the David Wolf series and I have read every one. Love the twists and turns of figuring out the who, what and why of the murder. You revisited a crime from a past book and it was solved by Wolf's deductive reasoning and observations.
Since I lived in Colorado for many years your description of the Rocky Mountain area is so nostalgic for me.
Thank you for keeping Wolfe from getting battered in this book, but sorry the detectives bore the brunt of the injuries.
Please write Book 20 ASAP or what your gifted skills as writer allow.
I started this book one evening over the weekend. I absolutely positively did not want to put it down. There are three mysteries in this one book. The book starts with David Wolf, taking Piper, his wife to the airport. From there, the e-book takes off. The action packed easy to read a couple ugly words, but they were in appropriate place. I highly recommend this book. Thank you, Jeff Carsons. I so thoroughly enjoy your books.
This was the best Wolf mystery novel in a while. The last couple of reads felt kind of dry. The story within the story made this read a little different than previous stories. I do miss the original books where Wolf was the sheriff and there was a lot more action but the author at least keeps the story real as a character ages. Definitely worth your time if you’re a Wolf fan.
What the f…? A good book that would have been Great if only? There so many better and appropriate words to use than F-bombs. All stubid thrillers use them when they go lazy on using our beautiful language. Would you let your kids read them? Hopefully you are lifting them up out of the filth of this world instead of accepting the downward spin? I have read many new thriller writers who avoid the bad language. Go read a Ryan Steck book.
Once I started reading the first Daid Wolf Mystery, I was hooked. The struggles the team goes through touch on good detective skills and the cost to their personal lives. Jeff does a great job weaving through each characters point of view. I find his books easy to read, avoiding the chores, and continuing reading way past my bed time!
I like this series and the characters in the story. this was not the most intense of the books, but it balances the series as a whole. The two story lines of dealing with the senator trying to find his son's body and the two killers on the loose keep the flow of the story moving. looking forward to more stories.
I've read all 19 of the David Wolf series and thoroughly enjoyed them. It's nice to be so familiar with the main characters and to see how they evolve over time. It seems that Jeff has become an even better writer with each book. I know that it's not easy writing these books even though he knows the characters and the locales.
Another excellent Wolf novel. The plot, the characters, the action are all amazing. I love this series and I am al reading looking forward to the next one. Carson is definitely one of my favourite Detrctive stories’ writer together with Michael Connelly and Declan James (whose Jake Cashen series is also amazing). 5 stars.
. Windburn continues the David Wolf saga and is another outstanding read from this author. Great story line with the usual characters I look forward to following. In addition to the plot, which keeps you hooked to the end, I enjoy the descriptions of the landscape as it changes with the weather. Looking forward to Book 20.
This entertaining series of books is really worth reading. It talks about individuals growing. Individuals dealing with the difficulties of life. And not giving in. The portrayal of the character in a kind human manner really makes the David Wolf series a pleasure to read as a mild and yet satisfying diversion. Looking forward to the next one.
I especially liked the characters, although the story was good too. I didn't like the way the scene moved around so much the I lost where they and I were much of the time. Maybe a map in the book would help. The story moved along quickly and I did have a hard time putting it down. Often kept me up too late!
A gripping story with lots of loose ends that finally knit into solved crimes. I spent my Sunday with the dog next to me and a cat on my lap. Wind Burn did not disappoint.
It just kept me reading in that way that's compulsive when it's too good to put down. That's the best way to know everything is just right. Thank you for this at a time it was needed!
This wasn’t the most thrilling book of the series, but I did enjoy it! The characters seem like old friends and it was good to see their lives evolving. There was plenty of action and I hope Thatcher doesn’t mess with the group in the future!
This is a well written continuation of the David Wolf storyline. All 19 books can be read as a standalone story, with no cliffhangers. Recommend to all who love a mystery.
A whole lot of words used to describe the weather! It was interesting to a point and then it got really interesting. A lot of characters filled the story with intriguing outcomes.
Stories within stories, that's what I loved about this book. Multiple levels of mystery. It all tied together, and it wasn't solved until the very end. Excellent read.
We have read all 19 David Wolf books and we are never disappointed. The only thing bad about finishing the latest book is waiting for the next one. We love how the main characters have continued to evolve and the introduction of new ones.
Absolutely love this series! Never boring always an interesting murder mystery .This one kept me reading I started it last night and just finished. I love the characters !
Love this series. All the characters are old friends now. The series is best read in order so that you get the true arc of the story of Wolf’s life and that of his friends and co-workers
I enjoyed this story. It was nice to visit the lives of Wolf, Rachette and Patterson again! I almost feel like they are my friends I haven't heard from in a while. I enjoy how Jeff Carson can weave the stories.
I am never disappointed with David Wolf. The characters are great and keep getting better in each story. It is just an easy read that keeps me interested because I know there will be a twist.
Love this series. This author has a way of telling a story that keeps you engaged and is heartwarming at the same c time. Have read the entire series to date and hope that there is more planned for the Wolf series.
For fans of David Wolf this a must read. As usual, Jeff Carson paints vivid descriptions of the south Colorado mountains. A thriller which keeps you reading. I read it in one day!
