THE PARIS DAUGHTER (The Lost Daughters Book #5) by Soraya Lane is a captivating and emotional dual time-line women’s historical fiction from start to finish. Each book in the series stands alone with the connection being Hope House, a home for unwed mothers in London, England. This series and author are both new to me, but after reading this beautiful story, I will absolutely be reading the other books in the series.
1930’s Paris France is all about high fashion. Eighteen-year-old Evelina has been dreaming and drawing to be just like Coco Chanel her entire life. Her farming parents hate the decadent city and do not support her dreams. They tell her she must marry or leave home. Evelina goes alone to Paris and is willing to work hard for her dream, which over several years, she accomplishes. She is the exclusive designer for the most prestigious department store in Paris.
In present day London, Blake receives a wooden box meant for her grandmother who has passed away. Inside is a chic dress drawing and a luxurious piece of fabric. Blake proposes writing a series of articles for her job as she searches to find the connection between this mystery box and her grandmother. She is desperate to find out who this designer may be and if she was her grandmother’s mother. The search will take her out of her normal everyday existence to the world of high fashion houses and designers in Paris. Could this connection be the spark to reignite Blake’s designing talent and forge a new life she has only every dreamed of?
I loved this book so much and I cannot believe I have not heard of or read the other books in this series. These books are easily read as standalones, but I am glad I read this book first because Evelina was the first occupant of Hope House. Ms. Lane brings these two women to life on the page as well as Paris in the past and present. The story seamlessly flows between the two time periods which led to me not being able to put the book down because I was so engrossed. This story has so many emotional parts, both happy and sad as the two women learn to be true to themselves. Their courage, tenacity, and love are evident throughout. I am so looking forward to reading about the other daughters in this series.
I highly recommend this extraordinary and beautiful women’s historical fiction novel.

Kleine aanwijzingen en hulp van mensen met kennis van mode brengen Blake telkens een stapje dichter bij de waarheid en hoewel er in het heden ook veel nadruk op de romantische verhaallijn ligt en het ontrafelen van haar familiegeschiedenis af en toe wat naar de achtergrond verdwijnt, is het goed om te lezen hoe Blake haar horizon verbreedt, ze in het diepe springt en eindelijk haar eigen dromen achternagaat en haar gevoel volgt.
De verhaallijnen van beide vrouwen worden vloeiend met elkaar verweven, je ziet overeenkomsten in hun dromen, talent en persoonlijkheden en ze moeten allebei flinke obstakels overwinnen terwijl je wordt meegenomen in hun gedachten en realistische twijfels, waardoor je met hen mee gaat leven. De kleine cliffhangers en de interessante setting zorgen ervoor dat je door blijft lezen, de scènes met Hope maken je extra nieuwsgierig naar háár verhaal en hoewel dit boek weinig grote verrassingen bevat, is het absoluut een fijn verhaal over mode, ambitie en doorzettingsvermogen, liefde, hartzeer, moed, geheimen en persoonlijke groei, een meeslepend verhaal om helemaal in weg te zakken!

Another wonderful dual timeline story by one of my favorite authors, this time set in the City of Love, that reveals the interconnected stories of a famed Parisian clothes designer, Evalina, and her great-granddaughter Blake, who wants to find the truth about an adoption in the family. Immersive, romantic, poignant, compelling!

I have loved all the novels I have read by Lane, but this is now my new favorite.
Present day London as Bake is introduced to us. She has discovered a piece of fabric with a signature at her grandmothers’ home. Now that her grandmother has passed she seeks clues to her biological family.
Blake ends up in Paris and hoping to meet Henri, who might know more about her grandmother’s past. He is a fashion curator and the mystery starts to unravel as they get to know each other. What will be discovered is a romance that could lead to more details about her family.
Was meeting Henri a mistake or could it be the for the best? A story about romance, love, loss and finding yourself. I absolutely adore this author and always look forward to her books.

I have been thoroughly enjoying this series. Each book is a dual timeline, where a woman finds out she is descended from a home for unmarried mothers, and she goes on a journey to find out more.
This series definitely reminds me of The Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley, which I have also been loving.
I love dual timelines, and this book is probably my favourite one of the series so far. I have visited Paris a few times, and I loved revisiting the famous landmarks around the city, vicariously through this book.
Lane has managed to maintain her excellent standard of plotting, writing, and character development in each book, and I can't wait to see which part of the world we get to visit in the next installment.

Dit verhaal was echt vrij hartverscheurend. Ik denk dat ik dit het sterkste en mooiste boek van allemaal vond. Ook had ik wat betraande ogen tijdens het luisteren tijdens een bepaalde scène. Ik kan me soms niet voorstellen hoe machteloos sommige vrouwen zich moeten hebben gevoeld in die tijd 🥹😥. Deze serie wordt oprecht met het boek beter en ik vind het heel leuk dat je al wat doorkijkjes krijgt naar het grote verhaal. Ik vind het ook mooi dat sommige vragen voor Blake onbeantwoord bleven, maar je het als lezer wel weet 😊. Dat gaf voor mij een extra dimensie aan het verhaal!

Soraya Lane, the wonderful woman that you are!! Once again, I have been captivated by another Lost Daughters book, and I can honestly say this book outdid the last one!
Just like the books before, story is told in a dual timeline following Blake (present day) and her Great Grandmother Evelina (in 1939). Blake is given a box containing a piece of fabric with a signature. With those as her only clues, we follow Blake on her journey to Paris where she meets fashion curator, Henri.
The story is addictive, and I found myself not wanting to put the book down. Soraya is truly brilliant in how she makes you attached to the characters as if they were your own family.
I am very glad I started my year reading this book and cannot wait for the next instalment in the series!

I really liked this one! It’s the story of Blake, who’s searching for the history of her great-grandmother who left a small clue about herself behind—-only a little piece of fabric and the sketch of a dress! Blake’s grandmother was adopted and never knew her parents.
Blake is a journalist and decides to write about her search in a series of articles. The trail leads to Paris and a man who is linked to the fashion industry. While the present unfolds, we are treated to pieces of her grandmother’s life in the past.
This is a delightful tale which served as my introduction to the author. I look forward to reading more of her work.

The Paris Daughter is a beautifully written dual timeline story that will have you totally captivated like I was. I absolutely loved this story. I was drawn in from the very first page.
I was so caught up in 1939 France with Evelina and her dream. Following her from when she left home to pursuing her dreams, and the men in her life.
Present day Blake trying to uncover clues to learn more about her great grandmother Evelina.
Courage, love, so many secrets, emotions, strength, power and following one’s dreams. A story of self discovery.

De franse dochter.
Het 5de deel van de verloren dochters van Soraya Lane gaat deze keer over de Franse dochter.
Zo leuk dat het net op de dag van de liefde mijn beurt is in deze blogtour! En al helemaal als het verhaal zich afspeelt in Parijs of “ de stad van de liefde”. Zelf ben ik er nog nooit geweest en eerlijk gezegd sprak het mij ook niet zo aan, maar na het lezen van dit boek en vooral de bezoekjes aan de vele restaurants en bakkerijen is mijn interesse toch wel aan gewakkerd.
In dit boek hebben we weer 2 verhaallijnen die zich in 2 verschillende tijden afspelen.
In het heden ontmoeten we Blake die werkt als journaliste en die een jaar geleden een kistje ontvangen heeft met 2 aanwijzingen in naar wat misschien wel een stuk van haar verleden kan zijn. maar is Blake, die altijd al een pleaser geweest is, er klaar voor om voor de verandering eens iets voor haar zelf te doen en het veilige Londen voor even achter te laten en naar het bruisende Parijs te reizen om haar verleden te onderzoeken?
In 1937 ontmoeten we de jonge Evelina die er van droomt groot te worden in de modewereld. Een droom die als vrouw in die tijd al niet makkelijk was, en al zeker niet wanneer haar ouders er van overtuigd zijn dat ze moet trouwen met iemand uit hun dorp die door hen is goedgekeurd. Evelina besluit dat haar dromen groter zijn dan wat haar ouders voor haar toekomst zien en vertrekt zonder omkijken naar Parijs.
Soraya Lane zuigt je ook weer in dit boek helemaal mee. Het verhaal is soms wat voorspelbaar maar dit vind ik bij deze serie zeker niet storend. want ook al loopt de verhaallijn in de 5 boeken wat op dezelfde manier, ik zou het heel raar en jammer vinden moest het plots een heel ander verhaal worden. Bij elk boek komen we ook mondjesmaat meer te weten over Hope, en ik heb haar nu al in mijn hart gesloten. Wat ik ook heel erg kan smaken aan deze boeken is hoe de personages van de vorige boeken af en toe eens voorbij komen. En wat een goeie wijsheden geeft de auteur ook mee, de vriendschap, het verdriet, de liefde en vertrouwen die aanbod komen zijn zo mooi. En dan zinnen als “wijn helpt eerlijk gezegd vaker dan sussende woorden” zijn goud waard, want heeft iedereen soms niet gewoon eens nood aan stilte en een goed glas wijn?!

Odeszła z domu, gdyż nie chciała wyjść za mąż za faceta wybranego przez ich rodziców, postanawia wyjechać do Paryża gdzie znajduję pracę, potem męża.. ale nie długo bo później poznaje miłość swojego życia, ale czy napewno?
Dowiadujemy się również więcej o samej Hope, gdyż Evelin była jej pierwszą podopieczną

In addition to the plot of Hope this time I liked the modern part more, without detracting, but the previous parts and threads of the story was more touching and heart-catching.. 🥹
Now I am waiting for The Spanish Daughter 😊

Dowiadujemy się również więcej o samej Hope, gdyż Evelin była jej pierwszą podopieczną

Dit boek is alweer het 5e deel in de Verloren dochters serie geschreven door @sorayalaneauthor. In deze serie volg je in ieder boek een andere vrouw die een familieverhaal gaat ontrafelen. Hoofdpersonage Blake gaat gewapend met haar gekregen kistje met hierin een stuk stof en een handtekening naar Parijs om het verhaal erachter te achterhalen. Tegelijkertijd lees je wat er in Parijs afspeelt in 1937 in het leven van Evelina. Hoe zullen deze verhalen samenkomen?
Ik heb weer genoten tijdens het lezen van dit boek. Je waant je in Parijs in twee verschillende tijden en de schrijfstijl van Soraya Lane is vlot en beeldend. Hierdoor las dit boek fijn weg. De verhalen in deze serie zijn wat voorspelbaar, maar ik hou daar juist wel van bij een boek als deze. Ik kijk zelf in ieder geval uit naar de volgende delen die nog komen gaan en ben wederom enorm benieuwd naar het verhaal van Hope, waar we steeds een stukje van te zien krijgen.

History and ancestry is probably my preference, but this series makes for a nice, easy, and engaging read and still keeps a wee bit of the ancestral discovery messaging throughout. With its intricate blend of historical and personal discovery, this installment maintains the charm of the Lost Daughter series.

I ta część, podobnie jak pozostałe w cyklu, należy do historii subtelnych i pełnych ciepła, które czyta się z uśmiechem na ustach i wizją szczęśliwego zakończenia.
Paryż pachnący kawą i croissantami, pulsujący historią, pozwalający zajrzeć za kurtynę świata mody, skrywający sekrety przeszłości i dający przestrzeń na miłość - czyż to nie brzmi pięknie? To właśnie w tak niezwykłej scenerii rozgrywa się opowieść pełna emocji, determinacji i odkrywania własnej drogi. Historia, która porusza serce i sprawia, że i Wy zapragniecie odwiedzić to cudowne miasto.

VERRUKKELIJK! Wat een heerlijk deel weer in de serie. Ik heb hem in zowat een ruk uitgelezen (en zelfs slaap verloren want ik moest en zou hem lezen, haha).
Ditmaal gaan we naar Frankrijk! We lezen over Blake in het nu die probeert uit te vinden wie haar overgrootmoeder is, een nieuw pad aan het zoeken is, en daarbij liefde vindt (Henri was echt zo zoet, al wilde ik hem op een punt echt een trap in zijn je weet wel waar geven). En dan is er de toen met Evelina en haar romantische avonturen die uiteindelijk haar dus naar Hope hebben geleid. Ik vond het leuk om over Evelina te lezen, en ik wenste dat ik die jurken echt kon zien. Ook leuk dat zij dus de eerste was die bij Hope kwam!
Met beide heel veel heerlijk Frankrijk van croissants tot mode to prachtige plekken.

Zdecydowanie zbyt długo zwlekałam z przeczytaniem tej książki. Co prawda jest to już piąty tom serii Utracone córki, ale można go czytać nie znając poprzednich części.
Dwie linie czasowe bardzo mi się podobały. I podobała mi się historia obu kobiet. Evelina to utalentowana projektantka mody, która w latach 30 nie chciała tkwić w cieniu swojego męża, a chciała zdecydowanie czegoś wiecej od życia. Chciała być znana i chciała mieć swoją markę pod swoim nazwiskiem.
"Siostrzenica Hope Berenson - ciągnęła - kilka lat po śmierci ciotki, kiedy Dom Hope miał zostać zburzony, poszła tam, żeby sprawdzić, czy nie zostały w nim jakieś rzeczy osobiste, i pod deskami podłogi odkryła siedem identycznych pudełeczek. Wszystkie miały przywieszki z nazwiskami, a to było zaadresowane do mojej babci. "
Blake to młoda kobieta, która otrzymując w spadku pudełko pachnące różami i skrawek materiału, postanowiła sięgnąć w głąb swojej rodzinnej tajemnicy. I w poszukiwaniu swoich korzeni wybiera się do Paryża. Czy młody Francuz, który będzie chciał jej pomóc, skradnie jej serce?
Książka dla miłośników powieści z rodzinnymi klimatami w tle. Przepełniona miłością, tajemnicami, ciężkimi decyzjami, po prostu trudami dnia codziennego. Pokazująca, że życie to nie tylko bajka, to również czasami pasmo łez, smutków i gasnacych nadziei.
Nie mogłam się oderwać od tej historii. Pokochałam ją całym sercem. I teraz już wiem ,ile czeka mnie nadrobienia zaległości z pozostałymi tomami ❤️

But Blake must stay focused, she is determined to find out everything she can about her family. But can she find the answers she needs with the help of Henri, or will she return home with more questions and a broken heart.
The Paris Daughter, written by author Soraya Lane is a phenomenal story of love, family and new friends. I completely enjoyed the story of Blake and Henri. They were a perfect match for each other and their story melted my heart. This wonderful tale hit all the feels and left me with a happy heart. I loved the history and Evelina’s story. Lane is a master storyteller and always captures the reader’s attention at the very first page and hold it until the last page is turned. The detailed description of the streets of Paris made this book a wonderful escape. This marvelous addition to The Lost Daughters Series can be read as a standalone, but my suggestion is to read the entire series, it is phenomenal. I highly recommend this book.

They were a perfect match for each other and their story melted my heart. This wonderful tale hit all the feels and left me with a happy heart. I loved the history and Evelina’s story. Lane is a master storyteller and always captures the reader’s attention at the very first page and hold it until the last page is turned. The detailed description of the streets of Paris made this book a wonderful escape. This marvelous addition to The Lost Daughters Series can be read as a standalone, but my suggestion is to read the entire series, it is phenomenal. I highly recommend this book.

I absolutely loved The Paris Daughter ! This beautifully written, mesmerising dual timeline captivated me from the first page. I could not set it down until I finished reading it. And then I did not want it to end! I became totally immersed in the plotlines and emotionally invested in the characters to the point the outside world evaporated. Time sped by unnoticed while I followed Evelina and Blake through their journeys of secrets, discoveries, heartbreak, dreams and talent.
I adore dual timelines set in Paris and ones that include historical fashion designers. And this one had it all. I was hooked, reeled in and caught by Ms. Lane’s spellbinding mystery. Her writing is powerful and moving and the story flowed perfectly at the right pace. No wasted words, no lagging behind or rushed experiences. Dreamy, full sensory descriptions transported me to Paris. And the characters were so well drawn it seemed they could step off the page into the real world at any moment. They felt like friends I did not want to say good-bye to in this lifetime. I cared greatly about their dilemmas and outcomes and experienced their highs and lows through the rich and smoothly delivered text. My emotional heart certainly got a work out!
Hope House was a wonderful part of this story in how one woman’s kindness saved and helped so many women who fell pregnant who were robbed of choices or support. Even the hospitals in the 30s and 40s did not provide the comfort these women needed. But kindness oozed from this good Samaritan lady who knew what it was like to be abandoned and treated unfairly by others. This is a very uplifting part of the story.
When Evelina becomes the first woman to enter Hope House, the owner does not know she is a famous designer. Regardless, she is treated with respect and made to feel welcome and safe. And is not pressured to make a decision of whether to keep the baby or put he/she up for adoption. I got a real sense of how difficult it would have been for these women to be at such a crossroad. I liked the idea of the box with a couple special memorable items as a parting gift from the mother to their child. A tangible way to say good bye. But leaving the door open for a future encounter. A link to the past— in case one day he/she might seek out the birth mother or want to know more about her. Evelina being a fashion/dress designer, chooses for her box very appropriate items. It is this drawing and piece of material that remains that touches her great granddaughter and allows her to reach out and learn about this woman who is part of her own DNA. So, in fact, it serves its purpose well.
Blake’s idea to write about her experience goes over extremely well with her boss for the digital magazine. This sends her on a trip to Paris to uncover clues about her great grandmother. In doing so, it also re-awakens her own artistic talent in dress designing (obviously an inherited talent). In Paris, she rediscovers herself, finds love and a new direction whilst seeking out information on her great grandmother for the feature article segment. One of the people who helps her uncover clues about Evelina is Henri which leads to a giant surprise when he takes her to his family’s home. Where even more of her dreams are activated.
In the historical timeline we follow Evelina’s life from leaving her controlling father, to pursuing her dream in Paris, the men she falls in love with and the heartbreak she endures. The story explores the tragic truth of male dominance in the fashion industry and how talented female designers (like Evelina) created the designs but got no credit because a male designer put his name on the label. The author uses this information well to paint a picture of frustration and injustice. Coco Chanel is mentioned as being an exception to the rule as she built her own empire and was an inspiration to many women designers.
This is a captivating story filled with secrets, power, courage and love. It not only shows the importance of following your dreams but also sometimes the cost. Yet it is still important to be true to yourself. Blake goes on a mission to Paris for a job that has a personal connection. She not only gets the inspiration for her story but also finds the missing pieces of her life. I totally recommend this gorgeous, uplifting and transforming novel. One of the most enjoyable reads this year. 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
