RYSING #2

Waiting on the Day

Rate this book
Of course Kim Kija is flattered that a member of the biggest idol group in k-pop has a crush on him. But he doesn’t mix pleasure with business, nor does he date men. Even so, there’s something about Ahn Yung-Sun (a.k.a. Lux of RYSING)—with his beauty, boldness, and wholehearted belief that Kija is the only one for him—that makes him curious.
Intrigued and enamored by Yung-Sun’s many charms, Kija has to figure out how far he’ll go to keep their new relationship secret—and safe from exposure. And, just maybe, they can have the romance novel happily-ever-after that Sun’s been dreaming about.

(This is book two in the RYSING series. Each book follows a different couple and can also be read as a standalone.)

After getting hooked on the first book I received an arc for the second and oh I loved them! Lux was my absolute fave in this, just the way he knew instantly that he’d met the one for him and then waited for like 4 years, that’s one determined Human! I This was the perfect mix of sweet and spicy and most definitely swoon worth moments! Definitely cannot wait for the rest of the series to carry me on with my Kpop era! “Kim Kija was my destiny. I have believed that since the very beginning. I knew from the moment I saw him. He’s the only man I ever wanted, and he’s mine. I waited, and I hoped”

I received an ARC copy of this book but all thoughts are my own.

Hands down, I LOVE Lux/Kija! They are perfect together! Lux’s ahem collection paired with Kija’s bi-awakening was chefs kiss.

10/10 will read again

I was so excited to read this book, and it didn’t disappoint! Sun and Kija are sweet 🥰, swoony ❤️, and spicy🔥. All my favorite characters from the first book made appearances (hello Noel the best dog! 🐶) and I am obsessed with Kija’s assistant Grace! I would read a whole book about her, honestly.

The love story is so beautiful, and RYSING’s brothers and Kija’s parents gave me all the best feels—a perfect story to escape in!

Thank you to the author for the ARC and the chance to read/review.

We finally get Kija and Lux’s story and this is a K-pop idol x executive, secret relationship, sunshine chaos meets emotionally repressed straight guy situation… and it gave me things I didn’t even know I needed. I had an idea of how things were going to go… and then I got something completely different and I was absolutely there for it.

I’m giving this five stars simply because I smiled the entire time I was reading. This made me so happy and warm inside. I was swooning half the time, giggling, kicking my feet. It was just so adorable, heartfelt, and vulnerable.

I LOVED that Lux was the one to pursue. Relentlessly. He knew what he wanted and he went and got it. And watching our resident f’boy Kija be completely unprepared for this sunshine whirlwind? It was everything.

Seeing him fumble, get insecure, a little soft, a little lost, almost naïve… it made my entire day.

And Lux??? Our Sun, was a sexy little gremlin. I’m obsessed. The things that came out of that man’s mouth? Hot. Like HOT HOT. I was eating it up.

I also loved how they were both 100% in this secret relationship, fully giving themselves to each other despite everything around them. The tension of hiding it just made it better.

There was a little bit of drama, but I actually loved that it stayed low angst. It never took away from the feeling of the story, it just added to it.

I read this in ONE day. I could not put it down.

And I absolutely loved getting to see Nikko and Jase again -from book 1 Teach Me K-Pop- and how they’re doing. That just made me even happier.

I’m just… in love with this book.

And I CANNOT wait for the next one.

What's NOT to love? Secret love, K-pop, a jugdy dog, and questions answered! Long awaited (and already read TWICE because I'm a sap) "Waiting on the day" revisits a world that's been a true comfort read for me personally, and it does not disappoint. 😂 This book in fun, has characters we already know from "Teach me K-pop" and some wishes fulfilled ;) Kaenyn writes easy, captivating, can't-put-it-down stories about boys falling in love. Low on drama, high on love and laughs! Five stars fron me, but I might be a little biased (punny!) because I'm already in love with them! ;)

I feel so lucky to be one of the readers that Kaenyn trusted with early copies of this story!

I absolutely adored "Teach Me K-Pop," which was book one in her "RYSING" series. Nikko and Jase stole my heart, and the innocent and vulnerable way their relationship developed, from miles apart and oceans away-- through a screen, nonetheless-- made me absolutely giddy with anticipation.

We get to know Yung-sun (Lux) and Kim Kija in TMKP, so by the time I laid my hands on some of Kaenyn's initial chapters, I was already DYING FOR THEIR STORY. Lux is the most popular member of RYSING, the internationally loved K-Pop group that Nikko is a part of. Lux's character tore at my heart a bit-- he has never had the chance to explore romance, but he so desperately wants to- and he has had his sights set on Kija, who works for the company that promotes and "handles" RYSING, since the first moment he laid eyes on him.

Lux's absolute insistence that Kija is the only one for him is so endearing- he is completely convinced that they are meant to be together, and nothing anyone says will make him believe otherwise. Kija only dates women? Inconsequential. His position in the company making their relationship forbidden? Also not of importance to Lux. All he knows is that there is no other man on this planet for him other than Kija.

And guys-- let me tell you-- HE IS NOT SHY ABOUT HIS FEELINGS. Woooooooop. For a 21 year old who has all of zero sexual experience, this boy oozes sex appeal, flirts like a damn BOSS and is doing everything he can to be sure Kija knows exactly how he feels about him. And all of that attention directed straight at him-- well, it has Kija in a state of fluster and bluster. Because... Lux is famous, and and international darling for many reasons, and his incredibly unique beauty and charm are definitely up there on the list. And it is hard to ignore all of that attention when it is coming on strong from such a beautiful source. (hehe!)

I remember telling Kaenyn early on in my reading journey with these two boys that I was DYING for something physical to happen between them, because I honestly had no idea how it would go down. Kija has only dated women and views himself to be a straight man- so he has lots of sexual experience, but none with a man. Lux, on the other hand, has been so eager to please Kija, to be prepared once he finally gets the chance to be with him, that he was been practicing with toys galore for years- releasing his pent-up sexual tension that way. Soooooooo.... we come full circle. One of these guys has all the experience, but only with women. The other has all the experience with everything a man might need to "know" with another man... but no actual real-life experience.

WHO IS GOING TO TAKE CHARGE?! I was so fixated on how their relationship would evolve, both in and out of the bedroom- I was flying through the pages to get to that point. And the way it unfolded was just so perfect- so real, so true to them, that I applaud Kaenyn for giving them the honest and vulnerable experience they truly deserved.

There was so much happening here outside of just a gorgeous bi-awakening and a delish "It has always been you" style crush. Jase and Kim Kija are besties with history, and having a front row seat to the two of them as Kija nervously seeks sexual advice from Jase- PRICELESS. The relationship between Nikko and Yung-sun was also such a sweet and heartwarming one, with similar style conversations but so much more innocence- their friendship is truly one of beauty. The entire RYSING group is really a found family of such heart- I can't wait to read more about the other members in future books!

Thank you, Kaenyn for the opportunity to be part of this journey... these boys you have brought to life are truly something special!

I enjoyed Teach Me K-Pop and was really looking forward to this book.

It was so disappointing.

The relationship just didn't work for me - it was purely one-sided attraction. I mean, for the first 40% of this book, their only interactions were Yung-Sun telling Kija he wanted him and he's all Kija's, and Kija telling Yung-Sun they couldn't get together because he only dates women and because of their work. Kija's scenes without Yung-Sun were everyone (including Kija) going on and on about how hot he is. Yung-Sun's scenes without Kija were all him going on and on about how much he wanted Kija. Yawn.

I'm all for a good bi-awakening, but this was not that. It works best when there's a real connection. Chemistry and friendship, right? But here, it was just Kija realising that men's lips weren't much different from women's lips, and Yung-Sun was smaller than him just like the women he dated, so there you go - no different from dating a woman, right? I mean, wtf?

(They did eventually get to know each other, but apart from the sex, it was all off-page, so I really didn't feel any connection.)

Then they started having sex, and that could have been fun because Yung-Sun was a little kinky and really into solo sex. But then... it ended up just being sweet and both of them all "It's my first time so I don't know what I'm doing," which just didn't match the build-up at all.

The drama was uninteresting and the resolution was anticlimactic.

There was a lot of Jase and Nikko. I didn't mind this at first because they really are big parts of Kija and Yung-Sun's lives. But it felt like there was more about Jase's everyday life than Kija or Yung-Sun's. I mean, why did his students appear at all in this book?? There was nothing about Kija or Yung-Sun's work, barely anything about their families or friends.

Hopefully the next book in the series will be more like the first one.

Soft, Spicy, and Comforting in All the Right Ways

Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Writing/Prose: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Romance/Spice: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Waiting On The Day by Kaenyn King was my second ARC read in the RYSING series, and it felt like slipping back into a world that just gets it. There’s a real sense of care woven throughout this story, especially in how it handles identity, culture, and the realities of being in the public eye. It never feels heavy-handed, but the emotional beats land exactly where they should.

At its core, this is Kija and Sun’s story, and their relationship is equal parts heartfelt and genuinely funny. Kija’s moments of panic are both relatable and endearing, and watching him grow more comfortable in himself—and with Sun—was one of the highlights for me. Their progression feels natural and thoughtfully handled, with a softness that makes you root for them from the start. And when things do heat up? Let’s just say Kija had me pausing a few times—he’s got a way with words that definitely delivers.

The supporting cast adds so much life to the story. It was great seeing familiar faces again, and Grace absolutely stole the show for me. She has such a strong presence that she easily feels like a main character in her own right.

There is a touch of drama, though it resolves pretty quickly and may feel a bit understated depending on your preference. Personally, I wouldn’t have minded a little more tension there, but it doesn’t take away from the overall experience, especially since this story leans more toward comfort than conflict.

What really stands out is how grounded everything feels. The contrast between Kija’s supportive family and Sun’s more difficult reality adds depth without overwhelming the tone. It’s an easy, cozy read with just the right amount of emotional weight—and a noticeable step up in spice from the first book.

A warm, satisfying continuation of the series.

One of my favorite books from 2025 was Teach Me K-Pop, the first book in the RYSING series. I looked so forward to Waiting On The Day and it did not disappoint.  I loved this book and have read it twice since receiving the ARC.

I adored the main characters.  They are so sweet and likable, and one of my favorite book couples ever.  Sun is a K-Pop idol who has been in love with Kija, a young executive at RYSING's management company, since the first time Sun saw him in a meeting when he was 17 years old.  Sun waited 4 years to make his moves and then sort of bulldozed his way into Kija's life.  It took Kija a minute to catch up, but once they got together their communication, respect, and love for one another was amazing. I highlighted so many stunningly beautiful passages of dialogue between them and their thoughts throughout the book.  The other relationships in the book were sweet too; the MCs, the members of RYSING, the BFFs Jase and Kija, Sun and Nikko, Kija and Grace (loved her) and Kija and his parents.  They were all so lovely.  There was a dash of drama from an outside source which didn't take over the book and was resolved well.

This book was spicy, romantic, heartfelt and funny, and it brought me so much joy both times.  It will always be one of my favorites.  I highly recommend this book/series, and cannot wait for book 3.

The RYSING series has opened up a delightful, giant rabbit hole that is K-Pop/BTS for me that I don't ever want to climb out of.  Also, to anyone who has connections to BTS ARMY or STAYS, please help to get the word out about this series because they would love it too.

absolutely adored Teach Me to K-Pop by @kaenynking and her follow up, Waiting on the Day, is equally as delightful. As a bonus, we’re treated to glimpses of K-pop’s Nikko and Jase’s continuing HEA. But this is Lux and Kija’s story.
Lux (Sun) is maknae, the youngest member of RYSING and I loved his impishness and romantic nature. He fell hard for corporate man Kija four years ago and is convinced he is his forever person.
Kija only dates women. Which makes his growing affection for the sweetly alluring Lux surprising. Thank goodness his college friend (and temporary roommate) Jase is around to act as a sounding board to Kija’s confusion.
Their late night phone calls are lovely, filled with swoony secrets and whispered confessions. Lux may be a virgin, but he’s definitely done his homework.
There’s a lot to overcome. A rabid fandom. Company politics. And an ambitious actress wanting the social capital of dating a respectable man who has Kija in her sights. (His exasperated responses to her provocative texts are amusing.) Yet their love flourishes in spite of it all.
Kija’s PA Grace is amazing. Fact.
It was so satisfying watching Kija’s caretaker mode activated as he does his best to protect Lux. I loved how Kija’s family embraced Lux with open arms, and how fierce he was when Lux’s disapproving parents had the opposite reaction.
Lux and Kija really worked as a couple for me. A sexy, soulful story about what happens when your soulmate finally wakes up and realizes you’re meant to be.

I received this as an ARC and had a really good time with it. I kept picking it up in the middle of the day to see what happened next!

The whole setup worked for me — the secret relationship trope is already a lot, and then it just keeps getting messier in a way I was very into. Kija kind of ends up being bowled over by Lux just flat out telling him he wants him. That honestly set the tone for me right away. I was like, okay, I get the appeal.

Their relationship was probably my favorite part. It’s sweet, but there’s also this constant tension where you can tell that Kija is completely drawn to Lux — first trying to hide it in his own head, and then finally acknowledging it — and it makes everything feel a little more intense and a little more real. And as things develop, it definitely gets pretty spicy, which I was not complaining about at all. I was definitely rooting for them.

And then, just when I thought we were getting somewhere with the two of them, I don’t want to spoil anything, but a WHOLE OTHER THING comes up! That’s where I was fully hooked. It added so much pressure and secondhand stress (in a good way), and I just needed to know how it was going to play out.

It was genuinely fun, a little dramatic, and really easy to get into. I had a great time with it and yeah… I’m still kind of thinking about them.

Since reading(and adoring) Teach Me K-Pop I have been not so lowkey slathering for the next instalment! And just my luck, it happens to be about my RYSING bias, Lux 🥰.

I won’t spoil plot, but Lux and Kija go on a sweet, spicy, funny, and romantic ride to finding their happy ever after. It’s got firsts on both sides and is full of gorgeous self discovery. Most importantly, you will find not only romance, but Jase/Kija bestie time, RYSING member hijinks, a sassy assistant(all hail Grace!) and QUEEN NOEL(she has a fave and it’s not Kija 😉).

I love a book that can transport me to an entirely different world and be a sunny escape in a time when reality can be an overwhelming place. Waiting on the Day is fluff of the best kind - sweet and light without sacrificing complex characters grounded in the reality of their universe, which was perfectly painted by KK as always. Being back with these characters was like experiencing spring at the end of a long winter and I will add Lux and Kija to my ult boyfriends list permanently 😘.

Now give me the next one pls!!!!

Waiting For The Day is the perfect companion to Teach Me Kpop!

This story brought back characters that were loved in book one to give them their chance at stardom! Lux was my favorite member of Rysing when I read TMKP so getting to see what he was like outside of just being Nikko’s best friend made my heart so happy!! Finding out about his special collection is also fantastic and the perfect reminder that you never know what an idol could be into when the cameras turn off.

Getting to see more into Kija and Lux life brought me so much joy (and even some anger) but I am so glad to have gotten to read and cheer on what else could be coming for this universe.

I could yell about this more however it would be full of spoilers sooo I am just going to say Kija and Lux reminded me that even with some speed bumps love is worth it when you’ve found your person.

Listen, I'm sure it comes as a surprise to no one that I adored another K-pop romance, okay, but oh my god, I loved this book. I was so excited that we were coming back to this band after the first book, and Lux truly stole my heart. He and Kija were literally perfect for each other; I loved their banter, I loved them learning and growing together as the book went on, and honestly, I spent a majority of this book with a smile on my face because of how much I loved them. This book was also stuffed with all of the great side characters and found-family goodness, and I cannot wait to see more of that in the future. Like I said for the previous book, this one also read like a love story to K-pop again, and I loved that. I am so excited to see what comes next in this series but also from this author.

Omg the moment I could, I signed up for an ARC for Waiting on the Day because I loved Teach Me K-Pop so much. This book was so amazing.

Kija and Sun are such precious bbs. Sun has been in love with Kija for years and he is not subtle about it…well to anyone that’s not Kija. Sun was so overly optimistic in regard to waiting for Kija and I loved it. He is such a sweetheart and deserves the world. I loved Kija so much! I love that even after Sun laid it all out that he didn’t do anything until he was sure which really didn’t take long. I loved how all in he was and his devotion towards Sun. Also Kija’s parents made me do some ugly crying 😂

There was one part where I was so worried about how it would be handled but Kija is a KING and took care of my worries. I also loved that we got to see a lot of Jase and Nikko! You do not want to miss this book!

I was so excited to continue with RYSING after falling in love with Teach Me K-Pop last year. Waiting on the Day was a great sequel that let us get to know both Lux (Yung-Sun) and Kija more. It is spicer that Teach Me K-Pop with a lustful virgin pining after an older man.

The characters are well developed and the interactions with their best friends and the rest of RYSING were amazing. It was my favorite parts of the book.

The romance was quick in the sense that one of the characters falls in love with the other upon first meeting and the other takes a bit of warming up due to a bi-awakening. I would have liked to see more of them developing a friendship or romance since it felt skewed towards their sexual relationship.

Overall the book was great and highly recommend and I’m excited for the next installment!

**I recieved an ARC copy from the author, but the review is my own personal thoughts and opinions.

Last year, TMKP set me on a path where new friendships were formed and K-pop idol obsessions grew into the hyper fixation that they are today.

Waiting on the Day is the second book in this K-pop series and focuses on Kija & Sun/Lux SWOONY love story. I had a massive smile on my face while reading about these two and you can very easily binge this like I did 🫣. It’s one of those reads where, if you are needing a warm hug or a pick-me-up, it definitely helps! The humour throughout is top tier as well. the banter, the fun…I LOVE IT 🙌.

Yung-sun has a massive crush on Kija that spans over many years of him pining and obsessing from a far. He finally sets out on a mission to get his man and, boy do I love his confidence. The bold upfront talk was sexy af! Kija’s internal monologue of realising his attraction for Sun was beautifully done too. Watching Kija unfold and become a hot mess for Sun made me throw popcorn in the air, and LEGS WERE KICKING! Their attraction and chemistry is so explosive 🔥, These two have some seriously spicy moments alone and together 👀.

The friendships and bonds between Jase, Kija and the Idols melted my heart. The fangirl detail Kaenyn adds with the boys hanging out and having time together was everything.

So, if you need a read that is pure joy then you have to give this book a go! Also, if you have a thing for hot K-pop idols, then it definitely gives this one an added boost of pleasure 😅.

I adored the second book in this world (RYSING). Lux (Sun) and Kija are sweet and sexy and a lot of fun to read about. Sun's commitment to his absolute conviction that Kija is The One is adorable and swoony. And Kija is such a kind and careful soul. Watching him try to process Sun's devotion and come to terms with his feelings was so fun. I loved them. And I loved getting to spend time with the other idols. Their found family makes my heart happy. And ohmygosh GRACE is such a fun character. I'd love to see more of her. If you enjoyed the first book in this world you will absolutely enjoy this one too!

I loved TMKP, book 1 in this series, but there is something about Lux and Kija in this book that had me HOOKED.

Lux is one determined idol. He saw what he wanted and worked for years to be ready for it. Kija never saw him coming, but when the spark ignited... boy did it BURN.

The found family aspects of the bandmates along with Kija's incredible parents were just the icing on the cake.

KK's writing style flows so naturally and is a joy to read. It's easy, light, and enjoyable. And the story flows really naturally.

I loved this book so much and highly recommend.

Absolutely as stunning and a can't stop read like Teach Me Kpop. We get to see so much growth from all characters. There is love, there is spice, there is DRAMA!!!!!!! Kaenyn writes a lovely balance of kpop life and personal life of Yung-Sun as well as the life of a corporate man for Kija. You see the human side of both as well as the expectations of fans and society. All of the human emotions are there-the highs the lows and the very human miscommunication. All with the right amount of spice and cute moments sprinkled through

Bonus is contained growth in Jase and Nikkos relationship (they pop up a lot \o/) as well as introducing new friends to the story.

10/10 no notes. 100% will be rereading soon.

I received an arc for an honest review.

First off I adore Kaenyn King. Their first book TMKP was in my top 10 last year and lead me down the road of wanting to learn more about K-pop in general.

WFTD did not disappoint at all. I loved Kija and Sun. They’re just cute and schmoopy. It’s a wonderful read full of ups and downs and took me out of the crazy world that we currently live in. I honestly can’t recommend it enough. I love seeing an authors growth from book one to book two. I can’t wait for more.

Absolutely fell in love with Teach Me Kpop so when the chance to read Waiting on the Day as an ARC came up I leapt at the chance and it did not disappoint. Another beautifully written love story for another one of the boys of RYSING. When I say I devoured this story and immediately wished I could read it again for the first time, I mean it. This series is quickly becoming a comfort read I could come back to again and again.

After falling in love with Nikko & Jase’s story, I got a chance to read Lux & Kija’s. I went in with so much anticipation and somehow, it still exceeded everything I hoped for. This was so so good… 🥹

Yung-Sun… my sweet, soft boy.
To love someone quietly, consistently, for years… and still hold onto that feeling with such certainty? There’s something so achingly beautiful about that. The way he loves Kija so fiercely, unwavering, and full of devotion—it wraps around you and just stays.

And Kija… the softest, kindest soul.
The greenest flag in existence. His love doesn’t rush—it unfolds. Slowly, carefully… like he’s learning a new language, one feeling at a time. But the moment he understands what Sun means to him? He chooses him.. fully, completely and it feels like a breath you didn’t realize you were holding.

Their love is tender, all-encompassing… the kind that grows in the in-between moments, in the small touches, in the quiet understanding of I see you, and I choose you anyway.
I didn’t just read their story, I felt it.

And the world around them? It only makes everything richer. Nikko & Jase, the other Rysing idols, Grace, Kija’s parents and Noel (my little monster 🥹), they all add so much warmth, depth, and a sense of belonging.

I’m not ready to leave this universe… and I already can’t wait to fall in love with the rest of the Rysing idols ❤️

ARC Review! Where to start? Firstly Lux and Kija are amazing together, they fit perfectly and they balance each other out well. Secondly the book: the amount of times I screamed and laughed and squealed was too much to count. God their first time was so so sweet and how Lux surprised Kija. Gold. I cannot wait what comes next for the RYSING boys. 10/10.
