I liked this rejection story. The mmc/fmc characters started to blend into one another and the alpha seemed to turn into a beta towards the end of the story but that was only because he was groveling. At the 80% mark the romance took a back seat to the fighting/defending the kingdom. The ow drama was ok and it wasn’t necessarily ouch worthy because the mmc couldn’t stand her.

This is a new to me author. But when I saw an ARC for this story offered on booksprout I was curious. And when I read the preview to see if it was something I'd be interested in, I was hooked. I had to read more of it to see what happens.

I usually stay away from rejected mate books because I don't like reading about abused heroines or toxic relationships which tends to be in them.

But this is completely different. Ruaraidh was such a loving and understanding mate. The bond made him recognize Liz as his from the moment he met her. The bond pulled him toward her and let him feel her emotions. But he also came to truly love her. He loved her so much he would do anything to keep her safe. Even if that meant he had to tear his heart out by rejecting her so that she would live.

And boy was it heartbreaking what both Liz and Ruaraidh went through after he rejected her. I was on the edge of my seat to find out how he was going get her back while keeping her safe from the threat that was still there and also save his kingdom.

I really enjoyed this story, and I hope we get Liz's twins sister Anna's story next. I also want to read the first two books that were about her other sisters now too
