When journalist Amy O'Hara goes missing in the wilderness of the war-torn former-Soviet state of Mordania, friend and former colleague Megan Mitchell is compelled to search for her. Thrown into the conflict between the democratic Mordanian Government and an uprising led by the ruthless General Mikhail Rameron, Megan must strive to locate her lost friend and avoid becoming a pawn in a dangerous game.
As American diplomats struggle to strike lucrative oil-deals with the Mordanian government while it remains in power, and the United Nations tries to protect the capital city Thessalia's safe-haven, a lone reporter reveals footage of the carnage within the country. In a rush to avoid American intervention, rebel forces start protecting villages and citizens inside the war zone, and a revolution begins: now, the news is not just reporting on the conflict, it is actually controlling it. With every report, the conflicting forces attempt to gain favour in the eyes of the world watching on their televisions in their millions.
Megan pushes herself to the limit in order to rescue her friend, but she is captured by rebel forces and abducted deep behind enemy lines, and there she discovers the horrific truth behind the conflict, and that nothing reported on television is ever as it seems...
This is the third in a series entitled 'Power Reads' and I have to say, I've yet to read a poor one. This story centres around Megan, a journalist who has a knack for finding missing persons. As the story progresses through war torn 'Mordania' so many other things come into play questioning not just eat but democracy, fake news, freedom of the press, corporate greed and is out over in such a way that it paints a pretty good picture of how today's Governments and large Corporations no doubt interact at levels way above what we see. Excellent read and yet again recommended.👍
This book was a compelling and an intriguing read - lots of action but the main plot drive was the reader being kept wondering about who was on what side and also the unfolding of the real reasons behind the story
I really enjoyed this book. It was full of action lots of twists and turns. Megan is asked to go to Mordania to find Amy who was last heard from there. Both women were reporters that had previously worked together. Megan has basically retired and wants no part of searching for Amy, but in the end she is on her way and the hunt is on. Between governments, rebels, journalists, msf workers, U N liaisons and corrupt businessmen, who can Megan trust to help her in her search. You are never sure who the Good guys or bad guys are. It was a great story and I could not go to bed until I finished the book. Loved it and I recommend it .
Dean continues on with, fast paced, plenty of twists and turns, wonderful characters and a fantastic story line, as he has in the previous books that I have read. I have become an avid reader of Dean's books because they in my opinion are of a very high class.
