[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Paranormal Romance, M/M, with fantasy elements, werewolves, gods, HEA]
Cursed a thousand years ago for the crimes of their forefathers, the warrior men of Lykaios are imprisoned to stay on their island home. One day, Fate turns their gaze upon them in mercy, sending a vision of their impending freedom to Theron, one of the Lykaia and a wolf shifter.
Rylan Hawthorne, multimillionaire hotelier’s son, is a wastrel. Because of this, he’s encouraged to take some time to think on his father’s ultimatum: grow up, or lose his fortune. He takes their family yacht on a trip through the Mediterranean, and for supernatural reasons, he finds himself on the island of Lykaios.
Theron and Rylan’s meeting locks a bond in place that’s both instantaneous as it is arresting. Theron knows the man is his mate, but the man knows nothing of the Lykaia. Now, the lives of a pack lost by time are in the hands of an inexperienced young hotelier, and the wolf shifter who dares love him.
Frey Ortega writes erotic romance, primarily of the gay variety. He lives in what a friend affectionately calls “the south-easternmost part of Spain,” which is an archipelago called the Philippines. He’s a graduate of the Royal, Pontifical, and Catholic University in Manila, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. Primarily, he works as a writer, a novelist, sometimes a video game journalist, and overall a homebody who spends way too much time on the internet.
The book starts with Theron waking up from a nightmare. He was dreaming about the day, 1000 years before, when he and his people were cursed by the gods for the crimes of their forefathers. The warrior men of Lykaios were imprisoned to stay on their island while around them the world changed. But this is about to change since Fate wants to help them and for this reason he sends a message to Theron in his dream. Soon new ppl will arrive on the island and the men of Lykaios will finally find their mates. The curse will be broken. Rylan Hawthorne(22) is a spoiled rich kid, he doesnt know what he wants to do in his life and likes to party. His parents are annoyed by his attitude and want him to take a decision, if he doesnt find a worthy business to invest before the year ends, his father will stop giving him money. For this reason a pissed Rylan is in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea on his yatch, taking a month for himself to think about what he will do with his life. Is his birthday and he is reading an email from his mother. She is telling him to go check an island called Lykaios with beautiful men and landscapes and that he will not regret it. Rylan ignores the email and tells the captain he wants to go to Rome, but out of nowhere comes a tempest and they need to dock in the nearest port, Lykaios'. Soon after Rylan receives another email by someone called Fate, that tells him he will not regret this decision. Not that he really has other options it seems to me.....
While all this is happening on the yatch, we see Theron explaining to his Alpha his dream and what Fate said to him. At start the Alpha doesnt believe him, it seems too good to be true, but not long after they see Rylan's yatch come in the port. From the first moment Theron and Rylan's eyes met we understand that there is attraction btw them. Theron feels possessive of the human and his wolf doesnt want to think about the fact that maybe Rylan is there to be someone else mate. He is sure that the young human is his mate. The human is hot, but he is spoiled and acts like a royal thinking he is the center of the world and that annoys Theron. (and me too, i didnt like Rylan)
Poor Theron in the end he has to share his house with Rylan.....I would have kicked his rich ass out of the island in less than 2 seconds, sadly the guy is also his mate.
Theron and the other men on the island dont know anything about the modern devices and are surprised to see them, and want to understand how they work. While Theron is asking to Rylan what is a tablet, we see Fate entering the house and greeting them. Then he explains why the human is there and Theron tells Rylan about the curse.
I must say that i liked Fate and i wanted to see him with the Alpha, who knows maybe the author will make another book about them....
Most of the time Rylan speaks without thinking and offends Theron, his house and his ppl, and the damn wolf real curse is the fact that in the end he always forgives him.
Rylan wants to apologize and goes in search of Theron, when he finds him, the wolf is bathing in the springs...things get hot soon. Theron is still pissed but at the same time accepts Rylan's apology. The attraction btw them is too strong to deny, but Theron doesnt know if in this modern era the humans make love as they did before.
About this i didnt understand what he meant. Wasnt clear to me if Theron was a virgin or not. Sometimes while reading i had the impression that he had never gone all the way with his previous lovers, and other times he seemed to know what he was doing, the author isnt clear about that, a thing that happens also in the other books. The only thing sure is that Rylan isnt and isnt shy. He wants Theron and offers himself to him without shame.
That same night once back home, they make love for the first time. The next morning Theron takes Rylan to his Alpha and with Fate's help, they think about a plan that will help all the wolves find their mates and finally be free. Rylan is thinking of making the island a resort, but at the same time preserving the island ancient and untouched beauty.
Rylan thinks that the best way to bring ppl is to let them vacation there. The Alpha has some doubts at start, but in the end all agree. Now Rylan knows what he wants to do in his life and he will also help Theron's ppl.
To make this review shorter... There is a misunderstanding and Rylan thinks he isnt Theron's mate and he tells the wolf that when he will find his mate he will step aside. Theron is confused at start but then explains to the human that he bit him bcs he is his mate and that for him if he wants there will be no one else. Rylan accepts.
Soon after Rylan while videoconferencing with his father, tells him all about his idea. The man is happy that his son finally found out what to do in his life and will help him. (It's easy when u are rich.....)
Few weeks have passed and the construction works have already started. Rylan finally seems to be growing as a person also if only in the last pages of the book. The book ends with a big party. A celebration of this new beginning for the island and its ppl. Useless to say that Theron and Rylan prefer to celebrate in their room.
(one review down too many still to write...)

This was such a sweet and enjoyable read. The writing was well done and the characters were interesting. I liked the relationship between Theron and Rylan, which had a bit of help from fate (or agent of fate). I'm excited to see how the island of Lykaios develops over time. Cute and enduring.

Summary:
After reading the introduction I was fascinated by the idea of a modern, jaded son of a millionaire somehow rescuing a pack of thousand year old werewolves who had been cursed to remain on an island hidden form the world. This story was interesting, but Rylan's abrupt acceptance of having a mate, Theron, who was ancient and a werewolf was difficult to believe. It would have been more plausible if the issue had caused more difficulties before it was resolved. The descriptions of the way the pack lived from their homes to their very livelihoods brought ancient Greece to life as the story unfolded. It is my hope that future books in this series are fleshed out to add depth to both the characters and the plot line.
Cursed because of the actions of your fore fathers, your future truly within the capricious hands of fate, which is the half-life that Theron and his brethren have been forced to endure. While his homeland is gorgeous and hidden from view it is still a prison, as they can’t leave the island and time has moved on, until the fate of the Lykaia changes. Theron by Frey Ortega is first in an interesting story idea. I was looking forward to seeing how the author brought these warriors into the present. I was also surprised that the author decided to start the entrance into the future with Theron, beta in the pack I liked that I was surprised by this. Usually you see Alphas being the start off it was refreshing to see a beta take the lead. I got to know Theron more, I really did enjoy his character. He was angry with his lot in life and it was completely understandable. But you could also see just how much he cared for and wanted a future for him and his pack he is a strong character I very much enjoyed. He didn’t want to raise not only his hopes but those of his brethren when a future becomes possible. In spite of his fears, he was ready to grasp at that future. Rylan his mate . He came off as a spoiled little rich kid with more money than sense at first but he grows into an amazing character as the book goes along. I like a flawed character who can be redeemed like that. I wanted to see actual growth in this character and for me, the author did a great job of that. I thought the author had a wonderful idea and the premise was a bit unique. Wonderful chemistry and great story writing makes this a must read and the start of a great series.
this book where the old world meets new literally. theron is a wolf shifter cursed along with his people to an island for thousandths of years. Rylan is from the present rich son of hotelier sent by fate to lykaios to assist them to colming to tje 21st century. All of which is heavily ingluenced by fate. I want to rate this book 3.5, the extra .5 stars is for the humor that had me laughing out loud for days. "we don't know what wiiFi means, but you can see more than five stars here at nighttime.
Really 3.5. There is so much that happens in this book. Rylan and Theron meet mate and then start building a resort. The only criticism I have is that there really wasn't that one big thing that changes everything. The Antagonist is missing. However, this book does set up the rest of the series. Without it, there would be no series. I am glad that Rylan doesn't keep that holier than thou attitude. Spoiled little rich boy. I can't wait to see how this series progresses.
