✨ARC Book Review✨
I thought this novella was a fun little read!
I really liked Marisol! She’s determined to jump into a whirlpool and swim to the Wishing Sun, which grants a wish. I was curious why she was so determined when she knew no one had ever survived. So, that aspect of the story was really interesting!
Neo, a kraken, was quite smitten. He knew Marisol was important to him right off the bat. I loved all the tentacle talk and their unique interactions. There is literally a surprise pocket! I was living for it!
I really enjoyed the actual plot! I loved that Neo didn’t like Marisol’s plan but still found ways to support her. He’s alright in my book! I loved the ending, too! Even though it’s a short read, it keeps you on your toes!

Cozy Romantasy | Monster Romance | Kraken | Fated Mates
This was a quick read, as most novellas are, just took me some time to get into it. It just kind of fell flat for me, trying to find a connection to the characters.
The story was okay. I understand what was driving her mission, but I really didn't get the motive behind those who put Marisol in that position in the first place.

This was a cute and fast monster romance novella. It’s only around 60 pages, but it packs a lot of story, a little spice and 8 arms and tentacles with suckers right in.
Marisol is our human FMC. She’s fierce and independent and determined to try to save herself from the actions of human men. Ugh, human men. Neo is her kraken, who saves her from certain doom, keeps her safe and cooks for her, tends to her needs and ultimately, reveals that he is her fated mate.
Even though this is a short story, it packs in a lot of emotional development for the relationship. It’s low angst and low stakes but so very cute and an easy read.

This was a fun, short, spicy good time! Clocking in at under 60 pages, you should definitely expect the romance/spice to be incredibly fast paced. The love story was tender. This is definitely a vibe read for a very specific audience. But if you love a spicy monster romance, and are looking for something short and sweet—this one fits the bill!

The artwork caught my eye for this one. The beauty of the colors and the adoring looks on the faces of the characters on the cover. All of it just called to me and honestly? Who can resist a title like that?
First of all, Braxton has a talent for giving more than enough about the characters even with the fact that this is a novella, and the course of the book has to move just a little bit faster than it would need. Within pages we know exactly what kind of characters we are following, a woman with the resolve to do what it takes to survive, and a kraken kind enough to visit the last place he saw his brother year after year. Neo saves Marisol and it goes from there. Every moment spent with these characters showed just who they were and how well they worked together. I loved every moment they spent together, learning about each other.
I especially appreciated how Neo did not try to keep Marisol from her wish to obtain the Wishing Sun. Neo was the perfect example of support and love that Marisol needed, basically proof that she had something to fight for in her future, and his love as motivation was moving. The fact that it was not a problem for them to really come together as a potential couple, showing how Marisol could become a part of Neo's community, was something that made me smile.
Overall, this was such a sweet story. I can see the potential for this to continue on with another specific character, and if it turns out that such a book is potentially in the future, I will be quick to obtain a copy of my own. Read this story if you just love "love" stories with characters that deserve to be happy together.
Rating on my Scale: 9.5 Stars. Why? I wanted more time with these characters. I loved it a lot, highly recommended, I just hope to see more from Braxton with this world in the future.

If you are looking for a monster romance you can finish in one sitting, Treasured by Tentacles is exactly that. I picked it up and finished it on the same day (I think it is around 60 pages), and while I had fun with it, I closed it wishing it had given me a little more.
This is a short standalone novella from Mel Braxton, with tentacles front and centre (the title does not lie). It gets straight to the point and never really slows down.
What worked for me was the vibe. The dynamic between the leads is cute and sweet, and the whole book has a fun, funny tone that made it really easy to read. It is light and playful rather than angsty, which I always appreciate, and the spice sits on the lower side, so it is a good pick if you want monster romance without going fully explicit.
My main issue is the pacing. It was way too fast for me to fully enjoy it. Everything happens so quickly that I never had the chance to sink into the romance or really get attached before it was over. With a bit more room to breathe, I think this could have been a much stronger read for me. Not a favorite, but it worked as a quick, enjoyable palate cleanser.
Who this is for: readers who love monster romance, want something short and sweet with a sense of humor, and do not mind a story that moves at lightning speed. Great for a reading slump or a lazy afternoon.

Marisol is poised on a precipice, she's determined to reach the Wishing Sun, to touch it, to get rid of the curse plaguing her. But to get to it she has to jump into a foamy vortex, which most don't survive. Neo watches from the sidelines but the tug he feels is more than just sympathy for a human to perform an impossible task. Thus starts this very sweet novella, action and turmoil right off the bat, evolving into steamy tender scenes and a bond so beautiful, it filled my heart with joy.
This was a beautiful quick read, impressive that a story of around 60 pages could convey everything it did. The plot revolves around despair, Marisol's and Neo's and the danger one is willing to face for those one loves. Marisol's because she wants to LIVE, his because of his brother vanishing. With time running out for Marisol and Neo by her side, they pull together and all their questions get answered. Not quite as they expected but a warming loving answer.
Neo is just the sweetest! He is big in stature but even bigger in heart. A heart that's claimed by Marisol. How romantic is this! "My soul sings whenever you are near.”sigh... As for Marisol, she shows her mettle, she doesn't allow her circumstances to dictate for her. The sweetness she discovered with Neo was a bonus, the feelings settle into place and a new dawn arrises. For both of them. Together. What a wonderful feel good read!

This was a strange, but very sweet short novella.
I liked the curse aspect with Marisol, and that it was a poison instead of a magic spell. That was a fun twist. She is also tough as nails and will do anything to survive. Neo is the sweetest cinnamon roll, and I love him to bits. They make a really good couple, the romance was sweet, and the spice was fantastic too.
Some parts of the book were a little more confusing to me. It felt weird to have the Krakens living in air bubble homes instead of living in the water like sea creatures. The whole cooking underwater thing didn't make sense to me either. They felt a little more like aliens than they did Krakens to me.
Overall is was a still really good read, and I did enjoy it

Super short and sweet, although I think a liiiiiittle more would've been good too

Still set on going through the whirlpool to rid her of her mysterious curse, Neo is determined to help her get what she desires most. Even if what he desires most is to see her safe and sound in his nest.
I think the story here was really fun, especially having a lot packed in for such a short novella. BUT I am not sure I vibed with the writing as much, especially when it came to the relationship between Marisol and Neo, I just felt like things felt too... predictable and simple? I don't know, I just didn't find myself really getting attached to them like I would've wanted.
But if you wanna read about the kraken's secret pocket and the way his many tentacles can cradle and pleasure Marisol, then this is your kind of book.

This was sooo cute!!!!! I’m not experienced at all in Monster Romance so I tried this novella first to give it a go and hold and behold, I loved it! So, if you’re looking to dabble a little into this type of romance, this is the perfect little novella to start!
It was cozy, interesting, and warm! I love that the MMC was supportive even when apprehensive and the FMC was determined even when things were so oblique. And when the spicy part hit, ohhh wow!! 🤩 Let me just say this, ahem: He has suckers at the base of his thaaaaang! 🤣 So, yeah! Great start to my Monster Romance journey! 😍💅🏼

What a fun quick Spicy Monster Romance novella this was! I loved Marisol and her strong determination, and I enjoyed Neo and his tenderness. This was a fast paced Fated Mates Monster romance between a human and a Kraken where we got dual POV with some spice and a happy ending! Mel did such a good job of fitting such a fun story in so little pages! Definitely recommend, i finished it in one sitting!

This was a monster novella about kraken and human mates. I was looking forward to it, but unfortunately it fell short for me. Too many key points of the storyline were not explained. The writing felt rushed and just okay. I liked the idea.

What an adorable little novella! It’s only 60 pages so is super quick read. It was very enjoyable though and I loved the characters. If you want a cozy and quick monster romance definitely check this one out!

This is a cute, short & spicy first book in this monster romance novella series! Somehow, the author provides quite a plot within the short amount of pages! I enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next story!
This story begins by showing us Marisol and how she is completely out of options aside from throwing herself into a dangerous vortex of water attempting to reach what is in the center. Neo sees her, knows immediately who she is to him and here is where their story begins. I absolutely love how supportive Neo is and how he just wants to be with her. There’s emotional backstory, angst and yearning. The mates trope is one of my favorites for sure!

this was a cute and fun short monster romance🥰 it's a quick read but I loved the entire journey. the story is very cozy, a sweet love story between a human girl and a kraken, with an interesting storyline and good world building. while this is a short read, the relationship between the two characters doesn't move too fast and I actually enjoyed it. I liked that Neo doesn't immediately rush to tell Marisol that she is his fated mate, and he tries to convince her not to risk her life to reach the Wishing Sun...but since Marisol still has to go, Neo helps her in any way to keep his mate safe. all in all this is a great read for such a short story✨ a perfect palate cleanser after reading something dark or emotionally heavy!

An exciting and spicy novella filled with an FMC who’d do anything to get her wish granted and a kraken MMC who rescues her and takes her back to his home.
You follow the FMC Marisol, who is in a race against the clock to get to the wishing sun portal that will grant her one wish. But as she jumps the cliff and into the whirlpool to get to it, she’s not going to make it and a Kraken named Neo sees her doing this and is able to save her and takes her back to his home. He instantly feels a pull toward her and while he nurses her back to health, he warns of the dangers of getting to that portal and that he’s lost someone to the same mission before. Marisol must decide between this tension she feels for a kraken she just met and if she should trust his warnings or if she should take her chances and try again.
This was a spicy and quick novella to read through featuring an FMC whose motivations aren’t initially clear, but would do anything to get to that portal and get her wish granted. I liked seeing how quickly Neo cared for her and rescued her but also while still warning her, tried to be understanding with the choices she made and her need to try again. Of course there was plenty of tension and spice between them once they let each other in, and also some reveals in the later chapters that had me shocked. If you’re looking for a monster x human romance where he falls first and hard, check this one out! My rating 4/5!

You follow the FMC Marisol, who is in a race against the clock to get to the wishing sun portal that will grant her one wish. But as she jumps the cliff and into the whirlpool to get to it, she’s not going to make it and a Kraken named Neo sees her doing this and is able to save her and takes her back to his home. He instantly feels a pull toward her and while he nurses her back to health, he warns of the dangers of getting to that portal and that he’s lost someone to the same mission before. Marisol must decide between this tension she feels for a kraken she just met and if she should trust his warnings or if she should take her chances and try again.
This was a spicy and quick novella to read through featuring an FMC whose motivations aren’t initially clear, but would do anything to get to that portal and get her wish granted. I liked seeing how quickly Neo cared for her and rescued her but also while still warning her, tried to be understanding with the choices she made and her need to try again. When a book is a super short read it’s hard to think that the book will hold any weight or depth. I mean, it can be hard to create characters that you love and a storyline that pulls you in, but yet somehow, Mel Braxton did just this in her novella of Treasured by Tentacles. Less than 100 pages, easily read in 1 sitting, and a romance that will have you blushing, Mel brings everything to this story as she does her full length novels.
Marisol and Neo meet under stressful circumstances. Marison is determined to reach the Wishing Sun to gain 1 wish, a journey most don’t survive. Neo feels a pull to her unlike anything he has ever felt before and will not let her drown. As a bond snaps into place for Neo quickly, he never pushes Marisol to accept him as hers before she is ready. There is a lot of emotion felt in this short story, with Neo wanting to support Marisol at the center of it. While he may not like the plan she feels she needs to do, he helps her find ways to accomplish it.
And while Neo may be a monster, he is tender, soft, and sweet from beginning to end with Marisol. I loved seeing him be gentle and kind with her, letting her realize her own strength, but always there to lend a hand, or tentacle, if she needed it. Marisol is full of passion and drive and I was impressed by her determination to find a way to break her curse.
Everything you love about Mel’s writing, but in a short novella that does not disappoint! A monster romance for sure, but with cozy vibes that wrap around you and keep you intrigued.

I haven't read a kraken romance before so this was fun and new for me! It's also more of a novella as it's super short, so it didn't take me a lot of time to read.
I really liked the setting - the underwater town and how the author described the kraken world - and I wish we got more of that! I found it so fascinating. I loved the idea that the MMC (Neo) was a professional cook and if you tell me where I can sign up for a kraken who can cook, I'll do that straight away..😮💨🫣 He was so cute trying to decide what to cook for Marisol so as to impress her. 🥹 Marisol was such a lovely FMC to read from; lots of determination and bravery. Although the rate in which their relationship progressed made it feel insta-lovey and insta-lusty, which I think is partly due to the length of this novella, I found their relationship and their interactions supportive and wholesome respectively. I liked how Neo supported Marisol's decision and how they both came to terms with what's truly important to them. 🩵 Extra points for the pocket! 🤭 Also a round of applause for the tentacle use; if I'm reading a kraken romance, use the tentacles, thank you! 😂

Under-hyped, Appropriately or Over: Under! This was so cute, and I haven’t seen it promoted anywhere! It might be short but a nice little sitting read.
Recommend: See above! For those that like a softer vibe and want to dip in their toes, this book is perfect for that.
Re-Read: Personally, I got most of what I wanted from the first read, but I would not oppose to reading again in a short while.

At just under 50 pages, this was such a fun little HEA palate cleanser! While there was still some tension and danger, it was a much lighter read than I'm used to, which was honestly exactly what I needed.
The story follows Marisol, who is willing to risk it all after one fateful experience. She's determined to reach the Wishing Sun, even if getting there means putting her life on the line, because technically - it already is. But when her attempt goes awry, Neo comes to her rescue... and quickly realizes Marisol is his mate. 🐙❤️
Suddenly, Marisol has a kraken who cooks for her, protects her, adores her, and is completely certain she belongs with him. And really, there are worse problems to have. 😂

Rating: 3.5 stars -- This was a quick, light & fun monster romance read! It took me about 15-20 minutes to finish in its entirety, so keep that in mind as it is a novella (roughly 50 pages or so) - not a full novel. That said, Treasured by Tentacles was very lighthearted and wove a bit of mystery surrounding Marisol's hand until closer to the end of the story. This is not a full-blown erotica novella, there were a couple "spicy" scenes but nothing over the top or that drowned out the plot.
Neo's pull to cook enjoyable food and care for Marisol was cute, and I liked that he was respectful and cautious of Marisol's feelings towards him even though it was a very insta-lust driven scenario. There wasn't much background provided on the characters or the plot, so it felt a bit rushed (this is a theme I see in novellas under 100 pages in general) but possibly opened up the world that Braxton created to other stories and expansions - I hope!
I wish we had gotten a little more insight into the Wishing Sun, as well as Neo's underwater world! It was all very intriguing, and I found myself wanting to see more of it. This was such a cute, cozy, and fun little monster romance!
It’s a super quick read (under 60 pages), but I really enjoyed the journey. The concept of a human girl meeting her kraken fated mate while risking her life to save herself was so interesting, and I loved the world-building and characters.
I especially liked that Neo didn’t immediately tell Marisol she was his fated mate. Instead, he tried to convince her not to risk her life, and when she ultimately chose to go anyway, he did everything he could to keep her safe. 🥹
There is definitely some insta-love, but considering how short the story is, I expected that going in. My only real complaint is that I wish it had been longer! I think a little more time for Marisol and Neo to fall in love and for the stakes to develop would have made the story even better.
Overall, this was a sweet, easy, cozy monster romance with a really cute concept.

What a beautiful novella! This was such a beautiful story! I devoured this in less than an hour haha to think you can fit such a cute, romantic story in a 60 page novella is just talent!
I was a competitive swimmer for over 14 years! Pretty much half of my life haha and I have always been fascinated with the ocean and mermaid! This book really hit all of that! Marisol’s outlook at the mystical place under the water really hit home for me! This story had depth and meaning! It was an instant love kind of book but it didn’t feel forced at all! Neo was just so poetic! I loved him so much! He had a sensitive side and a primal instinct when it came to Marisol! I enjoyed their chemistry!
For being my second “monster” romance, I was blown away! I love that it didn’t totally focus on the spice, there was an actual story that was very moving and different from things you have read! I loved how short and easy it was to read! I would love to see these characters again maybe! If you want a quick, magical mated romance, this is the book for you!

This was a short novella and was pretty cute. I totally understand the vibe of novellas can make it difficult for a whole story to really shine through, but I feel like adding a few extra pages would have been helpful here. With under 60 pages, it does give me lots of missing pieces I would have loved to be able to dive just a bit deeper into to actually fully understand the story.
The two main characters were wonderful, and their romance does build nicely. I was a little sad over the missing info on this front as well, because it would have been nice to get more of their love & spicey scenes more depth and understanding as well. From someone who likes monster romances, Kraken is new to me, so maybe because I’m not fully aware of everything, I got confused over a few parts.
However! Just because this wasn’t my cup of tea doesn’t mean that it wouldn’t be absolutely perfect for you. If you’re lookin for a book and this seems perfect until you see my review, IGNORE ME and READ THE BOOK!! ✨
